Portege R700 with docking can't switch automatically to external display

Hi!
In the past we bought a lot of A600, S10, R500, and we bought always a docking for each laptop here in Desjardins.
Now we have a little problem with the new R700 Model: PT318C-00G001,
We bought 30 of them.
WHY when we put it on the docking (with the screen close) it can't display/switch automaticaly to the external display? (here a 22inc LCD)
It is plug with the HDMI/DVI cable. And when we get the display on by ajusting in the intel graphic and media control panel (V 6.14.10.5258), after a reboot out of the docking the screen is all buzzy.... sometime the two screen are dark, and we must use some key combinaison to switch.
It is really not user friendly for our user.....
With the older model like the A600 or S10, all have always worked well, if we are on the dock, the screen pop right on the LCD external display, if I shut it down, ondock it and boot it up all is alright on the laptop's screen.
we are on Windows XP Pro SP3.
I tried the Toshiba display device change utility and the Toshiba Mobile extension. wich are not more clear...
Thanks for your help.

Did you install a Vanilla version of Windows? Or was XP installed from the Toshiba Recovery Disc?
Maybe you are missing some important drivers (common modules for example). Also ensure you are using the Display Drivers from the Toshiba Website.
Also try a BIOS Update (v1.70 is the latest I think).

  • Can not mirror onto an external display in Boot Camp

I have a MacBook Black and I am running Windows XP Professional via Boot Camp. I've been having problem trying to set up mirroring in XP. On my previous MacBook Black which I purchased last May, I had no problems mirroring in XP. But for some strange reason, I can't mirror at all. After installing Boot Camp drivers in Windows, I didn't even see the Intel icon in the system tray. I went to Intel's website and I downloaded the latest driver which supposedly addressed this problem. However, I'm still unable to mirror my display. I can extend it to the external display but that's not what I want. I know others have experienced the same thing. Has anyone figured out how to solve this problem?

If it were only that simple. The mirror option is not there at all due to the fact that the Intel icon that's supposed to show in the system tray is not there at all either.
One thing I did the other day was check on the boxes of both of my MacBooks to see what chipset was installed in both of them. My MacBook that I bought last year has the Intel GMA 950 chipset installed. My current MacBook that I have has the Intel X3100 chipset installed. I have no problem mirroring on the old MacBook with the GMA 950 chipset. I have been to Intel's website and they stated that this was a known issue with the X3100 chipset. Their latest driver was supposed to address the feature. After updating my driver to the latest one, the problem is still not solved.

  • Can no longer use an external display in closed clamshell mode

    Hi,
I have this weird problem that just started couple days ago.
I own a MacBook Pro Early 2011 since March.
It's always hooked up to an external display and the MacBook Pro's LCD is turned off (closed clamshell mode).
Lately, if the MacBook Pro's LCD is turned off, the external display won't show anything.
But as soon as I open the lid, the external display will then mirror the MacBook Pro LCD.
If I close back the lid, the external display will get blank.
I also tried to change the display settings with no luck.
In other words, I can no longer use my external display with the MacBook Pro in closed clamshell mode.
I'm wondering if someone experienced this problem before.  Thanks for help.

    Hello sebastieng
Open both, your MBP connected to the external screen. Open Preferences click here on "Displays" and then make the external Window to the main window by dragging the bar (line?) on top of the laptop window to the external window, which makes the second window the main window.
If this does not help you may read this:

    Hope this helps

  • How do I switch iMac between external display with non-Apple keyboard?

When using the Apple Wireless keyboard that came with my iMac, I can press Cmd+F2 to switch between the iMac display and a PC connected to the DisplayPort input of the iMac.
However, I prefer to use a USB (non-Apple) keyboard as I can connect that to a USB switch and share the same keyboard between my iMac and my PC. However, pressing Cmd+F2 on the non-Apple keyboard does not seem to work.
I suspect this is because it's not actually "Cmd+F2" but rather "Cmd+Brightness Up" and my external keyboard does not have a "Brightness Up" key.
Is there any way to mimic "Cmd+Brightness Up" on a non-Apple keyboard? Of is there some other way to force the iMac to switch between inputs?
It's annoying to have to keep the Apple keyboard around for the sole purpose of switching between inputs.

If they're on the same wireless network, there is no inherent difference between this and a wired network.
If the sharing isn't working then there's something else amiss. Can you describe the network setup in more detail so that someone might be able to spot the issue.

  • Can I switch to an external monitor on boot without OS?

I have a cracked screen and I freshly formatted the hard drive on Windows (So basically, my MAC has no OS but I have an installer). Will I be able to switch to an external monitor on boot so I could see the OS installation well? if so, how do I switch?

Not in a position to test this exactly right now so I am just speculating.
IF this is possible, it should just be a matter of connecting your external display prior to booting, then booting the computer up (I suppose into the recovery partition, or an install disk). Since the computer recognizes the built in display and doesn't know its cracked, it will still display on there (unless you go into clamshell mode by closing the computer after it loads up the external display). I don't know if it will default to mirroring or extending.
Again, that is if it will work. Without an OS installed, I am not sure how it will behave.

  • MacBook Pro not automatically recognizing external display

I have an ACER 2216W LCD display connected to MacBook Pro with DVI cable. When I first plugged the ACER display into MacBook Pro, the ACER started right up -- nice plug and play. I disconnected DVI to bring MacBook Pro to school, and when I reconnected it at home, I received a "NO SIGNAL" error message on the Acer. I sent the Acer to their tech support in Texas after receiving no support from Apple (in Canada) and it tested fine on their PC. (They do not support Mac). When I attach the display, or turn it on, MacBook Pro screen goes blue and comes back quickly, as if it is trying to id the display. When I push "Detect Displays," I get nothing. System Profiler is not showing an external display. Any ideas -- is there a start up command I can try? Thank you! My Photoshop homework is building up.

  • IMac Retina 5K (2015) with 1xTDM iMac (2011) and 1x Dell External Display possible?

I have 1 x 27" iMac Retina 5K (2015), 1 x 27 " iMac (mid 2011) and a Dell P2715Q. I'd like to know if it's possible to run the 2011 iMac in Target Display Mode and my Dell as a secondary display from my 2015 iMac? My desired configuration is the 2015 iMac running two external displays. The 2015 iMac has an AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB Gfx card and both iMacs are running Yosemite 10.10.1
I have verified that running the 2011 iMac only via TDM works. Also running the Dell as an external Display only works (either at 4K resolution or the same resolution as the external iMac (2560x1440) via SwitchResX). With the Dell running @ 2560x1440, trying to put the 2011 iMac into TDM, causes a slow grey screen, then some display artefacts when coming out of TDM. Going in and out again appears to refresh the screen. But it doesn't seem to work.
I was wondering if anyone else has a similar configuration working and if so what settings or configuration changes to make?
    Thanks!

I stopped by the Apple Store yesterday, and they were nice enough to try the Screen Sharing solution with me.
Indeed, we were able to share the screen of a MacBook Pro and display it on the iMac Retina 5K over a Thunderbolt Bridge network. (should also work over WiFi)
As I expected, (based on the native resolutions) the MBP window maxed out at about 55-60% of the height and width of the 5K display.
I didn't try experimenting with lower resolutions on the 5K.
I'd actually be OK with that solution except as we increased the font sizes, (e.g. 48 pt) we noticed a *lot* of ghosting around the characters.
I will have to try it again at normal font sizes and decide if that is something I can work with all day long.
Otherwise, I am leaning towards buying last year's iMac, which kinda' grates me the wrong way.
    Thanks,
    n8

  • MacBook Pro with NVIDIA: can i switch it off?

    Hi,
I recently bought a new Mac, and although I don't do "heavy" stuffy like movie editing, I decided to buy the expensive model, and so I bought a Macbook Pro 15" with the NVIDIA graphics card. The reason for that is that I like to keep my Macs for a long time, and usually it is the video stuff that makes a PC unusable (too slow) once it gets older, so I thought it might be a good investment.
Apart from surfing the web and all the other usual stuff, I have a racing game and a flight simulator I like to play once in a while, and I noticed that this Macbook seems to get hotter and the fan a little louder/faster than the 13” I had before. Do you think that the more powerful NVIDIA chip is producing unnecessary heat here? Just today, someone in this forum advised me to instally gfxCardStatus, which is a tool that allows me to see and even to control which one of the two graphic chips is being used. Do you think that at the moment, until I notice that my Mac is having trouble keeping up, I could set gfxCardStatus to use the integrated Iris chip only? It being less powerful, it would also produce less heat, wouldn't it? But how would I know that I should switch to the NVIDIA-chip?
    Thanks
    Kurt

    Activity Monitor will show it.
    Graphics switching
Macs that support automatic graphics switching save power by using integrated graphics and switch to a higher performance graphics chip only when an app needs it. Activity Monitor shows "Graphics Card: Integrated" when using integrated graphics, or "Graphics Card: High Perf." when using high performance graphics. To identify which apps are using high performance graphics, look for processes which show "Yes" in the Requires High Perf GPU column.

  • Portege R700 with Windows 7 64-bit: Windows explorer fails to refresh

It regularly happens after having used my laptop for a while (1 hour plus?) that Windows Explorer no longer refreshes any of its windows. Eg., delete a file and it is still displayed, and disappears only after pressing the refresh button (F5).
Anyone else who had this experience, knows the problem, can suggest a solution (except for keeping on pressing F5 and eventually rebooting in frustration, which does help for a while)?

    Hello,
I had exactly the same problem
with my brand new (less than a month and it started from the first use) *Portege R830*.
It *frozed all the time*, after a few minutes running, opening one or two programs (any), sometimes, even none.
The problem occured also to get back from the sleep mode : couldn't get back, black screen.
The *task manager wouldn't even open*, or if it opened it would be impossible to kill any process, although the processor wasn't even particularly busy at any time.
I had to *press the shut down button* to force it. Turning it on again, i had to choose between safe mode, where everything ran well, or normal mode, where the problem reoccured after a few minutes.
I found the same solution than you did in the Toshiba knowledge base and I installed *the latest driver for the fingerprint utility*.
It seemed to solve the problem, and i was really relieved at that time !
But the next turning on, after it had installed some windows updates, opening a web browser and the connections manager, the *freeze occured again*, less often, and less longer (after a few minutes it stops freezing, so it better because i don't have to force to shut down), but still i cannot open the task manager and still it is slowed.
So i think *this fix is not totally solving the problem*...
    ...Looking for another solution...

  • User with IE8 can't see automatically masthead

    Hello,
One of our Portals which was developped for external users and working via F5 shows a security message for IE8 users.
This message says that the https page contains secure and non-secure objects- the user shold decide if he wishes to continue. of course, it can be changed in the IE options but the security in our organization does not allow it.
Is there another way in the portal options to prevent this message?
    Thanks

    Hi,
There some items on portal pages/iviews with http. And You are using https for external portal. You can find them and use relative urls.
And here is wrong place. Your question about Portal.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Portege Z30-A-18M - cannot set native resolution on external display

    Hi,
I have tried to connect two different full HD displays to my Portege Z30-A-18M and I was unable to set the native resolution - maximal resolution that I can set for those is 1680x1050... I wasn't so surprised with the first one as I had some troubles with native resolution when I was connecting it to the Satellite laptop that I had before. But then the same happened when I tried the other display.
I thought that this laptop can handle higher external resolution... Is there a way how to force the native resolution for the external diplays in Windows 7?
    Thanks!

Well, I wanted to use it as extended desktop... But I tried now to set it only to external device and I am still getting 1680x1050 as max
Just a note, the first display was connected with analog (D-SUB) and the second with digital (HDMI) ...
Is there a way how to override the maximum and set my own custom resolution?

  • Problems with new MB Pro Retina 15" running external displays

    Hello,
Just bought a brand new 15" Macbook Pro Retina. I was using my old 13" mid-2009 MB Pro with two 24" monitors (one connected via a Diamond USB adaptor, the other with the Mini-Displayport). Both monitors only have DVI connectors.
I've just tried connecting each monitor to the MB Pro Retina, and neither is being recognized by the new computer. I'm using a DVI-Mini Displayport adaptor plugged into the Thunderbolt port.
Neither monitor works with this adaptor and the MB Pro Retina. However, when I return to the 13" MB Pro, both monitors work through the adaptor.
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

DO NOT use Tech Tool Pro on your Intel Mac. It is only a PPC version. TTP has not released an Intel version yet.
TechTool Pro hasn't been, but the Intel version of TechTool Deluxe was released sometime in the last few days. I couldn't say if that's the version Nancy is using, of course, but it is finally available for download (with instructions to create a bootable CD) for those who have enrolled an AppleCare Protection Plan.

  • How to Force mac Thunderbolt External Display with Integrated GPU for Macbook Pro 2012?

I have been getting GPU Panic whenever I use external Thunderbolt Display.
Not sure whether this is software after(Mavericks) or hardware, if anybody could shed some light I would appreciate it.
The Current Discrete GPU will only work for few seconds 10 sec max before it became blank and require you to force shutdown. This also happened even without external display Blank and GPU Panic upon restart. So I suspected either the discrete GPU failure or software in Mavericks.
But at the moment I'm looking for workaround so I can use the intel intergrated GPU to use my Mac Thunderbolt External Display.
Thank you in advance for any input.

I have the same problem with an early 2013 macbook pro. gfxCardStatus ( http://gfx.io/ ) will allow you to force integrated and not do dynamic switching, however the external display still doesn't work.

  • Using an external display with a 2006 iMac?

(Scenario in paragraph one, question in paragraph two)
I've got a problem trying to get data off an old iMac, and don't see an obvious solution... I have an old 2006 iMac that's been unused for years, and the display quit working about a year ago. I'm trying to just get the data off that computer, but my current 'main' computer's a MacBook Air that doesn't have an Ethernet port, so direct connection is out. I could try to move a couple hundred GB over wifi, but the wifi in the old iMac is an old wifi standard that takes forever, and tends to error out when transferring data over hours of time (I've tried).
Thus my question: The old iMac has a mini-DVI-out port, but the challenge is how to switch to an external display, when I don't have a display to navigate through settings? Is there a keyboard shortcut, or something? I've looked online, but can't find any solutions. I've got a mini-DVI-to-VGA cable, and a VGA-capable monitor, but when I plug the Mini-DVI into the iMac, to the VGA, nothing happens. I'm guessing I need to go to preferences, and select video-out? But that's impossible (as far as I've tried) with a display to navigate on the iMac.
Some miscellany: Someone suggested Command-F2 for something monitor-switching-related, but that did nothing. Someone at work thought that the signal from the DVI out might not work with the Gateway FPD1760 I'm trying to use as an external display...
    Any suggestions/help would be appreciated!

So the various 'F2', 'Command-F7', etc, etc, didn't work. But I did find a simple solution: I used my Fiancé’s MacBook Pro that has an Ethernet port, connected via Command-k, and transferred about 40GB so far. Pretty painless, and I can get dthe data to one of my multiple-TB external drives from her computer. Using her computer hadn't entered my mind...
Disappointing that I couldn't get the video out to work, but at least I'm getting the data off. I'm going to try the 'firewire/Target mode' idea later, when I need to erase the drive, etc.
    Thanks for the help!
