Portege R705-P35 factory HDD partition layout?

Hi,
I'm trying to recover a Portege R705-P35 with a 500GB HDD. Its become unbootable.
Does anyone know the original partition configuration from the factory for this model's 500GB HDD?
Could someone with this model take a screenshot of their Diskmanagement? I would really appreciate it.

Here you go hope it helps.  It is disk 0 by the way the 465.76 GB Drive the 8 gb drive is the sd slot.

  • Portege R705-P35 BIOS release date question

    Hi Everyone,
The CPU fan, thermal grease, and heatsink in my Portege R705-P35 were all replaced recently. Ever
since the repair, the fan runs near 40% constantly and the CPU temperature is also constantly
near 40%. (side: I got those numbers from Toshiba PC Health Monitor.)
Because of some other posts, I checked to see if I had the
latest BIOS version. As far as I can tell, the latest version is 2.20, which had a release
date of 01/23/2012. From looking in the Registry, my laptop has version 2.20, but with a release
    date of 12/22/2011.
Does anyone know if the discrepancy in release dates means anything?
    Thanks!
Portege R705-P35 BIOS release date question

Bert, I can occasionally hear the fan on my wife's machine.  On the two I use, I have never heard the fans since I've had the machines unless I put my ear right down to the keyboard directly above the fan.

  • Portege R705-P35 has limited to no sound

My Portege R705-P35 has at best very low volume sounds.  Audio troubleshooters are unable to detect any problems.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers, but this did not fix the problem.  My audio used to work properly, and I would like to know why it no longer works correctly.

This is the audio driver you reinstalled?

You may want to try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.

  • Portege R705-P35 Web Cam failed to initialize

My Web camera fails to initialize.
(This used to work, but stopped suddenly.)  Every time I start my computer, I get the message, "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer."

I don't see the web camera listed in my Device Manager, either.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this is greatly appreciated.  I do have my Recovery disks, but I don't know how to reinstall my web cam from them.

Reinstall the Toshiba Web Camera Application found HERE.

  • Portege R705-P35 - Screen/Lid Flexes and bends - Is this normal?

My screen/lid of the laptop bends when light pressure is applied to it.  I was curious if this was normal amongst the portege 705s.  Thanks.

I too have a bezel issue with 2 breaks.  Looking to find parts and how to replace the bezel.  Will I need to seperate the screen from the keyboard in order to replace the bezel?
I understand that the part number is located on the underside of the bezel probably on the lower right side of it.  Does anyone have the bezel part number for a R705-P35 Protege?

  • UEFI + GPT + SSD + HDD, partition layout for windows and archlinux

    Hi,
I have got new computer based on UEFI. It has one ssd and one hdd. I would like to install windows 7 64bit and archlinux, both disks GPT partitioned.
I would like to do it this way:
    SSD:
    /dev/sda1 - UEFI partition
    /dev/sda2 - windows system
    HDD:
    /dev/sdb1 - windows data
    /dev/sdb2 - /
    /dev/sdb3 - /home
    /dev/sdb4 - swap
my question is: where should I put /boot partition? Should it be on SSD or HDD? Will placing /boot partition on SSD make bootup faster?

I don't use a separate /boot partition. In my opinion, that's only needed if you boot multiple operating systems (ie. more than 2), because it can help with not having to worry about reinstalling the bootloader if you ever decide to reinstall one of them or replace it with something else. Some people cringe at the thought of not having a bootloader to get into a pretty GUI where they can click stuff. But it's really not that difficult to boot a "live" Linux distribution from a USB stick, chroot and reinstall the bootloader. I mean, you are using Arch. Using the command line should be a cinch.

  • Toshiba Portege R705-35 Fails to detect video cam and speakers

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have updated the system Bios, audio (Realtek) and video drivers and recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers.  Nothing has worked.  The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers.  When I connect my Logitech headset through the USB port it picks up both the headset and the microphone.  Both work fine through Skype and in online videos.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, figured out the solution?

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have....recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers...The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers....
This seems strange for these 2 seperate devices to both fail at the same time. You could also try a proper system reset and see if this helps bring them back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, boot into Windows, and test your webcam and speakers again.
But, when you say that you "recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers", do you mean that you performed a Toshiba Recovery to return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup, as directed starting on page 60 of your User's Guide? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have an actual hardware problem/failure or not.

  • R705-P35 - Create Recovery Problem

I bought a 16bg flash drive to create the recovery files for my R705-P35 laptop, but then ran into a problem.
    1.  After inserting the flash drive, and clicking "CREATE," I got the following message:
Format failed!     (Note I had previously formatted the flash drive)
    (Error Code:  040E2D-00-00000000)
    ... then ...
    An Unexpected Error Occurred.
    (Error Code:  040EAE-57-00000000)
... then the following message appeared in the recovery file creator window ...
"The creating process for all media has been cancelled."    (my emphasis)
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Portege R705-P35
I had previously formatted the flash drive
    I'm only guessing here.
If you formatted it for the NTFS file system, try formatting it for FAT32.

  • Factory recovery partition on windows 8 in Asus X551CALaptop

I purchased Asus x551CA notebook on 22nd Feb 2014. After about 45 days I formated hard disk partition
on which Activated Windows 8 operating systme was installed.I formatted an repartitioned HDD.
And I installed and uninstalled windows8 and windows 8.1 90 days enterprise evaluation edition. Because of
these link to factory recovery partition is broken.
I have created system image disks which are working to restore system. I forgot how I created these disks. May be
I did control panel>recovery>file history>windows 7 file recovery. So these disks should be System Image Backup.
I think these are not OEM recovery disks. When I insert these disks during reset and refresh I get a message
that "Media you inserted is not valid". And I am able to create system image on second partition of hard disk of
my laptop.I have also got product key of windows 8 by a program jellybean keyfinder.
To restore from discs created by me. I insert a repair disc then I go to UEFI settings. Then I change boot preferences to
boot from DVD. Then I go to Restore form images. Then computer asks me to insert my discs no from 1 to 4. One after the other. Then computer restore to windows 8. It looks alike as it was factory made.
-When I try to create a recovery drive by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
to the recovery drive". Please tell me how can it come with not grayed dialog box so that I can copy
recovery partition to USB pen drive? When notebook was new this check box was not grayed and I was able to
copy recovery partition on USB pen drive.
-Since I cannot copy recovery partition to USB therefore I also cannot reset and refresh windows 8 on
the basis of USB. It was working when notebook was new.
-And reset or refresh also not working on the basis of hidden recovery partition. How can it will start
working? It was working when notebook was new.
-I have tried diskpart command do make hidden recovery partition visible. But it becomes invisible
after restart. I used following command
    1. Command Prompt Run as administer.
    2. diskpart
    3. list disk
    4. select disk 0
    5. list partition
    6. select partition 6
    7. assign letter z
by these commands hidden recovery partition becomes visible and again when I restart laptop it becomes invisible.
And I am not able to do anything with recovery partition E.G. copy the recovery partition to USB
When I created a system image using the following command I became able to refresh my PC. May be it was refreshing
on the basis of newly created image.
    recimg /createimage D:\IMAGE81
    recimg /setcurrent D:\IMAGE81
But it is also not working this time and it gives a message "Drive on which windows is installed is locked unlock it".
May because I installe AVG antivirus it locked the drive.
    I also used REAgentC command
    reagentc /setreimage /path F:\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /target C:\Windows /bootkey 4300
Maybe I executed above command once again I used D: instead of F:
And I was able to refresh PC but I was not able to Reset. And I was not able to copy recovery partition on USB
by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive.
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
    to the recovery drive".
((I am giving images of computer management in first_image no partition was created it was in factory made state. And
in second_Image I created an extra disk partition which is present on disk this time.)) I cannot give images because
of my account is not varified.
So I am giving output of diskpart command to understand disk partitions.
    C:\>diskpart

Volume 6               Restore          NTFS   Partition     20 GB    Healthy      Hidden
in the beginnig instead of D: (130 GB) and F:(128 GB) there was only one partition D:(258 GB) 130+128 GB.
Please tell me answers of following quesions:-
    1. Tell me how to regain the link to factory recovery drive.
    2. Please tell me how can I refresh and reset PC on the basis of Hidden Factory Recovery Partition. And how can I copy Hidden Factory Recovery Partition on USB and DVDs. I have 16GB USB pen drive and a DVD writer. So I can use these two storage media
only and except these I have 500GB HDD on my laptop.
    4. I want to know that Factory recovery partition is useful or not. Should I delete it.
    3. I have DVDs as I said above. On the basis of these I can reinstall windows 8. When I created these discs windows 8 was present on laptop. Currently windows 8.1 is present on laptop. Please tell me how can I create my own hidden recovery partition for
windows 8. I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So please tell me can I create my own hidden recovey partition for windows 8.1.
    5. Can I download contents of factory recovery partition from internet.
    6. Should I go to shopkeeper. He repairs computers as well. Probably he will manage for me to get Recovery partition discs. In this case these DVDs may be different from my DVDs as I mentioned above. Maybe only thing I get from these discs that I will
able to reset and refresh computer.
    7. Microsoft shoult create a program that can re-establish link to factory recovery partition. And this program should be able to create new hidden recovery partition as well. As I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So I think I should have a new hidden recovery partition
for Windows 8.1. I think I can above thing my other way. If I create new set of DVDs by going to control panel>recovery>   file history>System Image Backup. It will create discs for windows 8.1. And I will able to restore system to windows
8.1 by these discs. And for windows 8 I have already discs. But these discs will only work by changing boot options(by choosing UEFI) and image recovery. And reset and refresh functions will not work then in such situation factory recovery partition
will become useless. Then such situation I should delete factory recovery partition as it is useless.
    8. At beginnign I also tried AI recovery burner. After trying it for 2-3 days I came to know that AI recovery burner is not for windows 8. There should be a tutorial for these thing so that people like me not waste their time.

I used a software named UNDELETE on my hidden recovery partition to recover it. I get some files by this software. Important thing is that I got a 2.84 GB file named 00eebc9d.rb in dir D:\recovered1\Files Detected by their Signatures\Unknown Application\.rb.
This file may be useful. Please suggest me how can I use these files to reset and refresh my OS. I used some dir commands as follows to get list of these files:
    dir /s >f:\list.txt
    dir /s /a:s >f:\list2.txt
Some files were system files so these file were not shown by first dir command. So I used second dir command.
    Output of dir /s >f:\list.txt

  • How to restore partition layout of my 1TB Fusion Drive?

    Hi there,
I purchased a Late 2013 iMac 27" with a 1 TB Fusion Drive. I tried to install Windows 8.1 without Bootcamp. My Installation with Bootcamp didn't work - there was an error stating that Windows Installation was not able to prepare for the next step of the installation - so I partitioned manually via OS X Disk Utility (resizing the Macintosh HD) and tried to install to the unused disk space - okay my mistake. This somehow didn't work either. Now I have the following situation: The Disk Utility shows the following partition layout:
    Macintosh HD 779,53 GB
    Unused disk space 220,33 GB
I am not able to resize the Macintosh HD to use the unused disk space (original partition layout). There is no option for this. The partition layout option is greyed out. When I try to create a second partition of the unused space and proceed, nothing happens (protocol states preparing to partition: „APPLE HDD ST1000DM003 Media“ - nothing more). The operation will not finish. Next to the partition scheme is the following information (translated from german): "For a new partition layout the whole capacity of the Fusion Drive won't be available." The whole Macintosh HD now has a capacity of 900,52GB (Disk Utility).
What can I do to restore to the original partition layout of my Fusion Drive which had a capacity of about 1,1TB?
    Thank you for your help!
    Chris

Yes, I think my first attempt was also in EFI mode, this could have resulted in the second EFI part.

  • Adding Bluetooth to R705-P35

I would like to add Bluetooth to my R705-P35. I want to add it internally like if Bluetooth were installed at the factory. Is the wiring harness and Bluetooth module available as parts?  What parts are necessary and where do you get them? Is this possible?
I know it's easy to add a USB Bluetooth adapter but where's the fun in that!
    Solved!

I just added a bluetooth module to my R705. I tried to document the process. The link is below. Hope that helps.

  • Ideal partition layout

    Hi,
Can any one suggest me the ideal partition layout to install Solaris 10 on SUN Fire V240 server with 146GB HDD and 8GB RAM.
This server hosts third party application software with user profiles less than 10 users.
    Thanks in advance
    Mike

The ideal would vary from solution to solution.
Generally speaking, I would lay out something like
s0 / 25 GB (holds root, var and opt)
    s1 swap 32 GB
    s2 n/a
    s3 live_upgrade 25 GB (mirrors root)
    s4 /export/home (or /home) 10GB
    s5 unused
s6 /app fs Rest of disk
    s7 unused
That's not counting anything like LVM to mirror the disk if that's in use I'd make changes. Also, depending on who you ask they might want to seperate out /, /var and /opt.
    Best,

  • I have a Bootcamp partition on  my Imac with Mavericks which I can't delete because the Partition Layout is greyed out and is stuck on 'Current'. What can I do?

I have a Bootcamp partition on my Imac with Mavericks which I can't delete because the Partition Layout in Disk Utility is greyed out and is stuck on 'Current'. What can I do? I was trying to install Windows 8.1 but apparently, this is not yet possible.
I was originally able to restore to my original Mac OSX partition using Boot Camp Assistant but then after entering Disk Utility and re-RAIDing the default RAID 1 to RAID 0 in the BootCamp partition (I suspect this is the cause of the problem but why was it defaulted to RAID 1 in the first place?!!!!), forever afterwards, I couldn't restore the single OSX partition.
Whenever I used BootCamp Assistant my choice to 'Install or remove Windows 7 or later version' was greyed out. Finally I went to Disk Utility to repartition but the Macintosh HD and BootCamp disk partition functions were also greyed out (even if I started up from Recovery mode holding down option, command and 'R' and choosing Disk Utility). BootCamp Assistant gives the error message 'The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition' with additional small script 'The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows', and DU gives the error message 'The full size of the Fusion drive is not available for repartitioning'.
What can I do to fix this problem? How can I make the Partition Layout button active in DU so I can change the partition to all OSX? I'm prepared to wipe off all my data etc to repartition and have backed up all to disk using Time Machine.

My problem is fixed now, thank you. It was caused by my changing the Boot Camp partition's 'RAID1' to 'RAID0'. If I hadn't done that, Boot Camp would still have been able to 'restore' back to the one partition. It was fixed with the help of Applecare by using a terminal and typing a command to erase the IP of the Macintosh disk (not the volume) as well as the IP of the Bootcamp partition (if I remember correctly), but then I had to restore the OS and all my applications and data etc which I had previously backed up using Time Machine. I haven't taken note of the exact command terminology used. It would be wise to speak to Applecare about this if possible.
Two words of warning, 1. According to the cause of this problem, it might be wise, after reinstalling the ops system to reinstall all extra applications one by one, manually, in case a similar problem arises again. Then manually copy back all data. Or the Mac user could use the Time Machine backup and then uninstall all the added apps then re-install them one by one manually. 2. Beware as after all this the user might not have the 'Recovery partition'. There is a small recovery partition (a few 100 Mb is size) which comes with all later Macs. After all this is done this tiny partition might not be there anymore and the user might have to re-install Mavericks again to get it back, or just install the upcoming update of Mavericks due in a month or so.

  • I need to decrypt my factory hdd from my macbook pro.

I had removed my factory HDD from my laptop to replace it with a larger HDD. I placed the factory HDD in a case to use as an external drive, however, I can not get access to any of my files. I get an error saying the data is encrypted and i do not have permissions to access it.
I have verified that FileVault and all firewalls are off, and all passwords have been removed.
    Any other ideas?
    TIA

Put the drive back in the system and take the encryption off. You can't do that when it is installed externally.
