Portege R930: DDR3-1600 SDRAM Low voltage (1,35) or standard voltage 1,5

Hi again,
Just wanted to know if the two sorts of DDR3-1600 SDRAM RAMs (one is called low voltage memory) that are available on the market are compatible with my Portege R930 i7 Toshiba?
Thanks!!
Regards
/Anders

Just as additional info: for RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible RAM modules
4GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M4G
8GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M8G

If I understand the specs right for the Portege R930 with i7 processor the maximum RAM is 8 GB. Has anyone tested a bigger memory of say 16 GB??

    >I f I understand the specs right for the Portege R930 with i7 processor the maximum RAM is 8 GB.
The Toshiba Portege R930 series is equipped with an Intel Ivy Bridge (Core i7-3520M; Core i5-3320M; Core i5-3210M ) or Intel Sandy Bridge (Intel Core i3-2370M)
Additionally the series supports either Intel QM76 or Intel HM77 chipset.
The notebook supports two DDR3-1600 SDRAM slots and the maximum supported RAM is 16GB. (2 x 8192MB)
Note: The supported RAM depends on the chipset.

  • MSI P55-GD80 - G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3 1600 runs at 1333 MHz only

I just bought my Core i5 setup yesterday. I'm satisfied with its performance.
The problem is that I can only run my G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3 1600 at 1333 MHz. I checked the Cell Menu. The highest DRAM ratio is 5. Setting it at 5 makes it run at 1333 MHz only
I have read the manual of my MSI P55-GD80. It states that it supports DDR3 1600 MHz
How can I run my DDR3 memory at 1600 MHz? BIOS update?
My current BIOS version is 1.4

I lowered my muliplier to 13 (200x13) to acheive 2.6ghz on the processor, but, at this setting now the processor is running 10-15c hotter then at the 133x20 default setting, and yes im using aftermarket cooling.  Why the extra heat at the same clock frequency?
You must set the CPU and VTT Voltage lower.
Example for 2600Mhz(200x13) CPU-Mhz and very low temperatures ->
      In CellMenue:
    - Load Optimized defaults
    - First u must set LoadlineCalibration in Bios to disabled ! ... in the next bios generations it calls Vdroopcontrol(set to LowVdroopcontrol)
    - Turbo disabled
    - Try VTT from 1,2V to 1,351 V- For higher BCLK(200..stock is 133) u need higher VTT-VOLTAGE as stock (lower VTT lower temps for the memory controler) ..use later the lowest possible VTT-VOLTAGE when u make any stability tests
    - BLCK 200 x CPU Multiplier 13 = about CPU 2600Mhz ...RAM u can use now @ 2000Mhz with memory multiplier 5
    - Now set the lowest possible CPU-Voltage in bios for stable usage with your own CPU! Thats the trick.Undervolting the CPU for lower temps an power consumption as stock !
    - Try 1V to 1,024V CPU Voltage in bios for 2,6Ghz(good choice for the newest I5/7 ). Howto->  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=127944.0
Use programs like Linx 0.6.4 to test the stability of your Sys. Howto and download--> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201670
Now u see temps are down (normal usage SYS). Lower CPU-VCore and VTT lower temps. Higher CPU-VCore and VTT higher temps.
    My CPU:
My I5-750 runs with 1,012V CPU-Voltage bios setting @ 2,8Ghz on P55-GD80. Stock the CPU has 1,264V VCore.
Now I have 25-30watts less vs stock(full LOAD SYS)  and very, very low temps - IDLE and LOAD usage .
Be sure that the 4 first GreenPower settings are @ AUTO.

  • Portege R930 - BSOD when connecting high resolution monitor to HDMI port

    Hello.
I have the Portege R930 (pt331a-01w001) running window 7. Everything on the laptop works as expected, however when I plug the laptop into a high resolution monitor (2560x1440) via the HDMI port I get blue screen of death.
I can use the HDMI port to connect to my 1080p LCD TV and my work monitor which is a lower resolution and it works ok.
I have tried multiple cables and different monitors of the same resolution.
    Can anyone assist?

    Hello,
Yes that is correct. When my laptop is connected to a monitor with a lower resolution that 2560x1440 (such as my work monitor (1680x1050) or my TV (1080p)) everything works as expected.
Once I plug it into the 2560x1440 monitor I get BSOD.
The monitor only has a DVI-D Dual link port, so I am using a HDMI to DVI-D Dual link cable to connect the laptop HDMI port to the monitor.
I was getting this fault with the original display driver (not sure of the version), I then updated to the Toshiba driver (v8.15.10.2712) and also tried the Intel Driver (9.17.10.2932) and still get the same problem.

  • Can Optiplex 780 support DDR3-1600?

I have an old Optiplx 780 (late 2009). I know the manual says it only supports 1066 and 1333, but I remember seeing somewhere that with BIOS upgrade it can support DDR3-1600. Is this true? The reason I am asking is that it is easier to find a cheap DDR3-1600. Thanks for any information!

There is no support for DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) and the bus will never run at that speed.
There is no overclocking and the FSB is determined by the cpu and chipset so no and no.  You cannot use Registered Ram and faster ram will not run faster it will clock down to 1066 or slower depending on the cpu.  Furthermore 4 rank high density ram does not and will not work.  Max dimm size is 4 gigs and max ram is 16 gigs aka 4 x 4 gig low density 2 rank ram.  Buffered, Registered, ECC ram is not possible nor is 32 gigs of ram total. So while DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) will work it will not run faster with a slower FSB cpu.  I recall that when I put in a 1333mhz fsb cpu the ram still ran at 1066 mhz.
Dell OptiPlex 780 MT Desktop Computer- Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 with VT (3.06GHz, 3M, 1066MHz FSB) for example.
Regulatory Model (Mini-Tower): DCSM or DCSM1F
Regulatory Model (Desktop): DCNE or DCNE1F
Regulatory Model (Small Form Factor): DCCY or DCCY1F
Regulatory Model (Ultra Small Form Factor): Regulatory Model D01U / Regulatory Type D01U001
Max bus speed and Ram Speed for the chipset. Aka 1066 is max regardless of the cpu FSB. Note the RAM TYPES in the INTEL spec for the chipset.

  • Ddr3 1600 mhz on p35 neo combo

    Hi all,
I have bought kingston 1,65 1600 speed RAM, but i only I only get black screen at start up, 1x2 gb. I can't up voltage in BIOS on ddr3 RAM as I can't boot. I run ddr 2 no myw. Can I somehow make it work? My psu is 650 watt

    Quote
I know my motherboard only supports up to pc-10600(1333)
Actually, the P35 chipset does not support more than DDR3-1066.
    Quote
take a look at this link:
Yeah, well, the fact that those modules work for that user does not mean that different modules will work for you.  The native maximum is DDR3-1066.  When you go for DDR3-1600 in spite of the specification limitation, then you are gambling.  It will either work or it won't.  In your case it obviously doesn't work.

  • 0xc004e003 error while activating Win 7 Pro on Portege R930-17L

    Toshiba Portege R930-17L
    S/N: 5D016093H
(If I search on Toshiba after SN I only find it in Toshiba - Ukraine)
Bought from "Sigmanet" online shop in Romania.
It has a sticker on the back side w/ Windows 8 Pro (small sticker without product key).
It arrived with Windows 8 install CD.
On it was preinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 (this notebook has the right to use Windows 8 and Windows 7)
Of course, the preinstalled OS was running slow and gave errors (McAfee AV preinstalled, a bunch of small apps, a.s.o.)
I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 (original CD) on clean partition.
I can't activate it with the following:
    Product Key: XXXXX-YYYYY-ZZZZZ-XXXXX-YYYYY
    Product ID: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
    Error code: 0xc004e003
Now, I've spoken with Microsoft Romania, they tried to help me but they failed.
They told me that the license appears to be blocked from Toshiba, so they suggested me to contact them (Toshiba) for unblocking the license or for providing a new product key.
So, I've contacted the seller. They passed me to Toshiba authorised service in Romania which avoids to help me.
Now I'm stuck. What to do or whom to contact. Everything is so blurry ...
I appreciate any response you can give me. Thanks!

Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with Windows systems which are already activated.
The stickers you can find at the bottom of the units are OEM serial keys and such keys dont work in connection with other different system. The OEM key belongs to the preinstalled image.
So in case you would use the Toshiba recovery disk and would install the Windows system using such disk, the serial key would not be necessary.
According to the Toshiba specification page:
http://www.toshiba.co.il/en/laptops/portege/r930/portege-r930-17l/ the notebook was preinstalled with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
This means that Win 7 Recovery DVD was not part of the package. Why?
because the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator software was preinstalled on such notebook. The software allows you to create the Recovery DVD containing the Win 7 64bit Pro system and image which is activated.

  • Flash won't install after downloading...early 2013 MBP/Retina, 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram, 3GHz Intel Core i7 Processor (clean installation)

Flash Player won’t install after downloading
On the first attempt to install v14, Flash Player v13 was installed and working fine.
I opened the installation package for the new Flash Player, followed standard protocol for installing Mac software and it hung before retrieving anything.
Subsequently, while watching the beach ball spin, I got an error message that the installer could not retrieve the v13 Flash Player software.
So I uninstalled Flash Player 13 and again attempted to install v14, only to see the spinning beach ball followed by a message that the installer could not retrieve the v14 Flash Player software.
    I am running OS X v10.9.4 on an early 2013 MBP/Retina display with 3GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram.
If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding my issue, please let me know.
    Sincerely.

  • Shall I update my memory to 32G (4x 8G) with DDR3 1600 Hz

If I want to update my computer hardware, shall I update memory to 32G (4x 8G) with DDR3 1600 Hz or the computer computer just only support DDR3 1333 Hz with maxium 4G RAM?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 iMac needs 1333 MHz DDR3 memory, so you have to install 1333 MHz memory. 1600 MHz memory isn't supported on your computer.
You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Apple supports 16 GB of memory officially, so it's possible that 32 GB of memory won't work even if they have been tested by other sources

    Is it magsafe adapter issue?

  • WXP on Portege R930 - need display drivers

    Hi All,
I have a need to install Windows XP onto a Portege R930-14T with an Intel I3-3110M CPU. When I try to install the driver for the graphics I get a message "This Computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".
The readme for this driver suggests it is for the 2nd gen I3 not the 3rd Gen as is installed.
I am sure its something simple I am missing.
Any help or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Phil

    > The readme for this driver suggests it is for the 2nd gen I3 not the 3rd Gen as is installed.
So you simply used a wrong and not compatible driver.
The Intel Core i3-3110M CPU supports the Intel HD graphics 4000
Its a 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) CPU.
So you need an Intel Intel HD 4000 driver for 3rd generation CPU!
Furthermore if you want to install the Intel driver from Intel page, you have to do that via device manager.
You need an folder containing the driver files (ini, dll)
Then you have to go to device manager, have to choose the advanced installation.
This helps you to point to the folder containing the driver files.
The windows would pick up the essential files and would update the driver.

  • MSI 770-C45 DDR3 1600 Problems

    Hi people,
Sorry if this is a common problem but did look through the forum but couldnt quite find a problem like mine.
I have followed custom pc computer build for a gaming rig and have had hang ups randomly which allow me to do nothing but switch off system.
To cut a long story short i have tried everything to fix this but now it seems to be running ok as i have changed settings for ram to 9-9-9-24 and timing to 2T.
I have also set the volts up to 1.77 (or nearby) but i am wondering if this is correct thing to do. I am stress testing it now with prime95 and hoping these setting are correct.
    M/B=msi 770-c45
Mem=corsair dominator ddr3 1600 (2 sticks in same colour port which is blue)
    Proc=AMD athlon II 2 pro

If the system is stable, then dont change anything.
An AMD-cpu does NOT support 1600MHz -- that is, the memory controller can handle 1066MHz or so. If you set the memory frequency higher, then you are overclocking the system which may result in freezing or other system problems. By losening timings a bit (9-9-9-24 2T) you solved it. Now, keep on testing. If the lot stays stable, then don't change anything else.
Also, use CPU-Z to see what timings/frequency-combinations your memory can handle.

  • Portege R930-1D0 + High speed port replicator II - dual monitor support

    Hi
Running a Portege R930-1d0 through High speed port replicatior II.
Is it possible to output to dual displays?
    Thanks

    >So if I connect one monitor via VGA and another via display port I should get output to both monitors?
Well, usually it should be possible to use two external monitor simultaneously.
But Im not quite sure about the VGA/Display port combination because the VGA port supports analogue signal and the HDMI / Display port supports digital output.
    However, it worth a check
Otherwise you could try to connect one monitor directly to the notebook and the other to port replicator.

  • Low Voltage FB-DIMMs

    A question for Apple:
Is the new 2008 Mac Pro compatible with low voltage (1.5V rather than 1.8V) FB-DIMMs?
    For example, these: http://www.acmemicro.com/estore/merchant.ihtml?pid=5236&step=4
(I do realize that an Apple approved heatsink would have to be added).

Why take a chance? they don't mention ECC. There are other places with good prices.

  • Low Voltage

We have 2 Apple XServes and one of them is reporting Low Voltage on the CPU 1 Vcore at 1.21 volts. The second Vcore is reporting normal at 1.27 volts. The other XServe is reporting a normal voltage of 1.27volts on both Vcores.
Is this anything to worry about and what exactly is going? Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated!
    thanks in advance,
    Bill

The word from Apple on this is that the voltage core thresholds are somehow hardcoded into the CPU itself. If you compare one box to another, the thresholds can be different.
While your number may not be out of spec for the G5 processor, it is possible to be out of spec for the thresholds preset in the processor. (Extremely annoying, no?)
My experience with this required that we swap out processors to fix the problem. Little else we tried would fix it, as there is no way to change the thresholds that System Monitor sees.
