Portege Z830 Battery Manager stopped working

Hi -
first time here and have looked extensively for an answer to this problem.
I use the Toshiba Battery Manager facility to charge my battery no higher than 80% unless I need to.
A month or so ago, I disabled some start up programs and fear I've messed up a setting, because I can't get it to work again.
I've been fiddling around with it for too long now and I'm concerned about frying my battery (like I did with my last laptop) by having it plugged in all day.
Can anyone here suggest an answer (understandable by a Luddite like me)?
PS. I'm aware that I have to drain the power to below 50% before it will kick back in - have tested this several times.

Do you want to calibrate the main battery?
The battery should be calibrated from time to time to keep a good battery performance and to increase the battery life time.
To calibrate the battery, you should run the notebook at battery power until the battery would be fully empty. Then connect the AC adaptor and charge it until the battery indicator would switch to green (or blue depending on the notebook model).
This procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row
But even if you would calibrate the battery, someday the battery would start to lose the performance and will die.

Portege Z830-10F - WLAN stops working when USB3.0 port is in use

Hi,
The wireless connection on my Portege Z830-10F stops working whenever I plug a device into the USB 3 port. The wireless connection comes back up as soon as I remove the device.
The problem happens with any device I plug in. I've tested with external usb disks (both usb 2 and usb 3), usb sticks, a wireless mouse receiver, and a printer/scanner.
This problem only happens when something is attached to the USB 3 port. The USB 2 ports located at the back do not have the problem.
The USB 3 port itself is working fine.
Currently running windows 8 pro:
* Wireless lan adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR9200WB-1NG (driver version 10.0.0.75)
* USB 3 port: Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096 (driver version 6.2.9200.16420)
As far as I can see Ive got the latest drivers installed on both the wireless lan adapter and the usb 3 host controller.
The problem occurs both under windows 7 and windows 8 pro. I used the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8.
This problem has been present ever since i first got this laptop. Ive already done a reinstall / recovery back to original setup with windows 7 but this doesnt solve the problem.
Does anyone else have this problem?

To be honest this is the first time I read about such issue.
I have no idea how an device attached to USB 3.0 port could affect the Wlan functionality.
I guess its hardware fault and this should be checked by an Toshiba authorized service provider.

Hp recovery manager stopped working error

I use an HP envy m6-1214tx with Serial number: CND31608PB and Product number: D9H71PA#ACJ.
Its only 3 months old.
i wanted to create a recovery drive using the hp recovery manager. But despite of many tries and reboots the recovery creation software crashed at the "Analyzing Hardware" part and windows showed the message "Hp Recovery Manager Stopped working".
i cudnt find a setup online for windows 8 64bit to reinstall the software. i need to create a backup before i upgrade to windows 8.1
Can anyone give a solution to this ???????

I hate it when updates break things instead of fixing them. Can't Mozilla leave well enough alone? At the very least, each new release should be tested so it works with ALL PREVIOUS extensions!
Wait till you "update" to firefox 4 and EVERYthing breaks, including the buttons that come with it. There is no arrow next to the dropdown button, right clicking the tab bar doesn't bring up the correct menu, but one as though it were the menu bar (which is missing) and the information bar is missing. True, it's fast, but you'll spend weeks getting it to work properly.

Creative cloud desktop application manager stopped working

I've been using CC for about 6 months with no problems. However, after updating Adobe Acrobat, the CC desktop app manager stopped working. I tried reinstalling it, and then running the Creative Cloud set-up, but that didn't work either. It looks like it's trying and then the set-up just stops. Nothing. No error message. Just won't work. I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

Portege M700 and Mobilink stopped working

This used to work efficiently before but suddenly stopped working 3 days ago and I do not know why. I have a USB option with Huawei or inserting the SIM card under the battery then use Mobilink. It always worked with both but now neither works. In Mobilink it reports Radio Off and with the USB it reports that the modem is already used. Wifi works normally.
Anybody have any ideas?

Toshset is a command line tool allowing access to much of the Toshiba hardware interface. It can do things like control display brightness, set the fan speed, and enable the optional Bluetooth interface. It has current version Toshset 1.75.
Toshset version 1.75 brings support for switching on the 3G modem.
Download the new version of toshset.
Make the 3G recognized as a Mobile Broadband Modem
To get the modem to be recognized you will need to patch the "option" module and recompile the kernel
This take long time, but maybe you can try it.

Getting needed packages:
The linux source code, the curses library and some other tools need to be installed to help compile .
sudo apt-get install linux-source-2.6.17 kernel-package libncurses5-dev fakerootthe source will be installed to the /usr/src directory in as a compressed file.
To make things easier, put yourselv in root mode by using sudo to open a new shell. There??s other ways to do this, but this I prefere.
sudo /bin/bashNow change directory into the source location so that you can install. Note that you may need to install the bunzip utility if it??s not installed.

Configure the New kernel:
Make a copy of your existing kernel configuration to use for the custom compile process. Note that the ` character is the one below the tilde ~

First, go down to Load an Alternate Configuration File, and load the .config file. (just hit enter)

Compile the kernel:

This process will create two .deb files in /usr/src that contain the kernel. The linux-image**** file is the actual kernel image, and the other file contains the headers. You can install both with dpkg. The filenames will probably be different on your system.
*Please note that when you run these next commands, this will set the new kernel as the new default kernel. This could break things! If your machine doesn??t boot, you can hit Esc at the GRUB loading menu, and select your old kernel. You can then disable the kernel in /boot/grub/menu.lst or try and compile again.*

Now reboot your machine. If everything works, you should be running your new custom kernel. You can check this by using uname. Note that the exact number will be different on your machine.

Final Touches
Now if you click on the Network Manager Applet you will find that the Mobile Broadband modem is recognized. In my case it is recognized as two modems which forces nm-applet to put the full name of the modem "Toshiba Wireless Broadband (3G HSDPA) SM-Bus Minicard Status Port".
To connect, you will need first to run this command
sudo toshset -3g on
You will see the 3G modem indicator light switched on. Now you can click on the Network Manager icon and if you have two entries for the modem choose the upper one, that is the one that works for me
To make things easier, there is a written script that will toggle the 3g modem on and off and created a launcher icon for it in my pannel. I have also created a keyboard short cut for it.
sudo gedit /usr/bin/3g-togglepaste the following in the new file:

Now right-click on any free space on your panels and choose "Add to panel..." then double-click on "Custom Application Launcher" and create it as follows:
Type: Application
Name: Toggle 3G Modem
Command: 3g-toggle
Comment: Toggle 3G Modem on and off
press on the icon to choose a meaningful icon then press Close to save your new launcher.
You can also have a keyboard shortcut to toggle the 3G on and off by going to System => Preferences => Keyboard Shortcuts. Press "Add" then write "Toggle 3G Modem" as the name and 3g-toggle as the command. A new shortcut will be created under "Custom Shortcuts" named "Toggle 3G Modem". Click on the word "Disabled" and when you see "New shortcut.." press the keyboard combination of your choice. Then press "Close".
*Important Note:*
*The patched "option" kernel module will be lost on every kernel upgrade.*
*To fix this, you either repeat the process of patching the "option" module and recompile the kernel or just copy the patched binary (option.ko) from your previous kernel to the new one.*
So if you use this solution for patching, the location of the patched module will be in /lib/modules/2.6.*custom*/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/option.ko
so you will need to adjust the commands accordingly.

Adobe Application Manager Stopped working

I have had the same problem as in many discussions, in which there seems to be few solutions. My AAM stopped working no specific error, I followed the idea of uninstalling all my creative cloud apps and started again only to have the AAM do exactly the same thing once downloaded and installed , now I have a paid subscription and no apps. Now when i click on AAM exe download file I get , "we've encountered the following issues: Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect problem." I have found this and will try to see if int gives any further information. It seems I have the AAM exe file somewhere but now cant find it.
My system is Windows XP SP3.I have used the Adobe cleaner.

Thes are all previos dtaes I have tried to update I presume. Should I just delete the data in the specified directories for indesign? Don't know what the fireworks erros mean!!

Help!!! Device Manager Stopped Working

Hi everyone.
I just bought a blackberry 9700 yesterday and i am having trouble with the device manager. After installation, i plug the blackberry using the usb into my laptop (windows 7) and it says Device Manager has stopped working and wants me to close the program. I have uninstalled it and re-downloaded it again and again but the same error keeps happening. I don't know what to do!!!

Try removing both device and desktop manager programs from the startup group in WIndows and see if the error continues.

Dynamic Link Manager Stopped Working - New CC Apps

As I expectedthe new CC apps seem to have issues when installing on systems where the user profile is used elsewhere other than c: drive.
I know this becuase As soon as I created a new user on the c: drive and logged on and launched the apps they worked fine.
I have an SSD for OS and Applications, and a RAID 0 Array for the User profile on Win7
Is there any known fix for this issue?
( Im not willing to change any part of my hard drive configuration to fix compatibillity with these new CC Apps. )
Dissapointed this was not dealt with. Im sure im not the only user who is under the circumstances.

No this had never occured the same way in CS6, Other instances of this have occured with CS6 like not being able to open PSD's in AE. But nothing where the Dynmaic Link manager would stop working.
I realize this issue is caused by my storgae setup becuase as I stated above, when I create a new win7 user and luanched the CC Apps( After Effects, Premirere Pro, Photoshop). they work fine. ( this is becuase the user profile for the user remains on the C: drive)
Where as my main user for my machine differs, in that the user profile exists on my D: drive ( for sake of capacity )
All of the Apps work fine with the new user and user profile on the C: drive, but this is not really an option for me as the SSD im using will not be able to store my large amount of user files ( documents, downloads, appdata, pictures, etc.. )

Desktop Manager stops working

Desktop manager version 6.0 connecting to Torch 9800.
Today for the first time as soon as the phone connects and synchronisation begins desktop stops working and a windows box pops up telling me so and then closes the software.
Any suggestions?

Battery suddenly stops working - computer shuts off despite battery saying its charged.

I have a HDX16 laptop running windows 7.
The battery is a year and a few months old, and yesterday was giving me at least 50 min of battery life. However today, it wont hold a charge at all and my computer shuts down completely whenever the power supply is interrupted for a millisecond. I ask because this is the second time a battery has suddenly stopped working on me and I am wondering if there is a reason for this.
I tried to check the battery condition by hitting esc + f2 when my computer starts up, but there is no battery check option.
Any explanation or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks for your time.

I'm sorry you're having a battery issue. I would suggest running a battery check using HP Support Assistant if you have it installed on your computer.
You could also try using this standalone Battery Check.
Do you have any issues like this if you operate the computer without the battery and just have the power cord plugged in?

Battery Meter Stopped Working - Windows 8.1

A couple weeks ago I noticed battery drain occurring even though my laptop was plugged in. Since then, the battery has continued to show drain, and the battery meter does not work. Last night the battery was showing 3.76% remaining charge.
Today when I turned on my computer, the battery was back at 100% charged, but I had done nothing to cause that, that I am aware of. Still, the battery meter is not working, so I cannot trust what the battery charge level is stating, I don't think.
I did install the app Battery Bar Pro, and it is in agreement with what the battery charge indicator is showing, but I have no idea where that app gets its information from, so it could simply be restating what the battery level indicator is showing. I don't
know what to think with the battery meter not working.
In checking, I see a number of instances of error code reports regarding Battery.exe, with the error code always reporting Event ID 1000.
I have tried to find anything related to battery issues under all of the results pertaining to Event ID 1000, but I don't see anything pertinent to my situation.
What could this mean?

Regarding Battery life related issue, we may also consider seek help at the manufacturer side and see if they could offer any helpful information.
Further, for Event ID 1000, would you please have a share with the detailed information about this log?

Battery suddenly stopped working at my S10-2

Hiya,
I have a S10-2 netbook and today it refused to boot from the battery. I had it for more than a year and never had any problems with it. This morning I used it while on battery, then plugged it in to charge. Then I shut down (it also installed some Microsoft updates, but I checked and it was only Silverlight update, so that can't be the problem) and after about 2 hours tried to turn it on again, only on battery. Nothing. Not even trying!
I read through the forum and found similar issues and some suggestions, but nothing worked. I tried unplugging, taking out the battery, pressing the power button 10 times and then for 30 seconds. I also tried disabling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery from the Device Manager and enabling it again. No success. Also tried reinstalling Energy management. Nothing.
Any clues?
The indicator says the battery is fully charged and it appears as charging (cause it;s plugged in in order to work). When I try to take out the battery while the cable is still in, it says there's no battery in, so it recognizes that.
I'm confused, how can something like this happen so out of the blue?
Hope somebody can help (other that suggest i buy a new one, cause it's darn expensive!)

take a look at this thread first and when you see lenovo logo at start-up, press f8 to load "last known good configuration"
if the solutions don't work from the link i post, you better consider to replace the battery. call lenovo support line ( warranty may cover battery replacement for free )

I updated to V 37 today; that made DownThemAll's download manager stop working.

Both menu items 'Downthemall' and 'DtAOneClick' work fine, I still get a list of links and/or files on the current web page, but when I activate the download manager by clicking 'Start' or 'Add paused'. I get a totally grayed out download manager window with a blue 'info' icon and the text 'Loading...' in it. Nothing further happens.
I haven't tried *all* other add-ons I have, but the ones I use most frequently, are still working fine.
Short of hunting for and installing the previous version of Fx (that was working perfectly fine) any suggestions?

Extensions generally do not need to be updated too often. However ones related to features like say Sessions, Tabs and Downloads may need to be updated for a new major Firefox Release sometimes.
