Portege Z830 - skin effect if on mains supply if touching the metal case

Hi,
if i use my Z830 with the powersupply at the mains (220V) and i touch the case with my hands i feel the "electricity" with my hands.
its a skin effect if a current flows through metal.
does anyone has the same feeling.
if i pull the powersupply and work on battery all is fine.
Is this dangerous to the user?
Jrgen

Hi
Such effect is noticeable using the notebook which supports an metal case.
Such effect is known to me and I also read in other threads about that:
For example:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=67785
You can use an three pin ac adaptor. This would help to avoid such effect.

  • Portege M200 PPM21E: electric shock from metal case

    Hi
i have recently received a toshiba portege m200 tablet however i have realised that when the ac adaptor is connected a small electric shock is given to anyone touching the metal case, i have heard from someone that it could be my ac adaptor which is causing the issue however i wonder if anyone on this site has any idea of the problem. thanks
    little more info if required:
    model number of tablet: PPM21E-0260Z-EN
    product number of charger: PA3282U-1ACA

    Same problem here.
Likewise, I bought my Toshiba M200 laptop off of ebay as Factory Refurbished, so is without official warranty. The extended warranty provider only covered the United States and not Australia, where I live, leaving me only with the 90 day warranty of the ebay seller.
The shocks were immediate. Holding the case, my forearms would get a nasty little tingle seemingly at random. The current has been demonstrated to be going through me the entire time I use it, as by my girlfriend who sits besides me and complains of how touching my skin the sensation can be felt - a numbing tingle, where a finger dragged along the skin 'bounces' rather than slides (sliding gently when the laptop is unplugged).
The problem is only present when the AC adaptor is plugged in.
Support has been entirely useless thus far - I tried calling Toshiba in Australia, but they claimed to have never heard of the problem. I called them a few days later, and they STILL claimed to have never heard of the problem despite my having only recently told them all about it! They tried to make me pay over a hundred dollars for a new adaptor - despite the fact that the only part that would actually be 'new' would be the three pin powerpoint plug, which I already have several of!
I went to an Authorized Repair Centre near here in Adelaide (Commander, I think they're called) who told me they'd charge enough to effectively kill any savings I'd made on buying the laptop factory refurbished, and would have no guarantee of finding the problem. I got on to a nice tech guy there who said if it only took a few minutes he wouldn't charge. I brought the laptop in and he checked the adaptor against another adaptor and tried to detect the electrical shock, only to have difficulty finding if the issue I was on about was real.
He figured if it was there, it'd have to be the adaptor. My ebay seller then sent me a second power adapter for free, which was kind of him. Unfortunately that didn't resolve it. I've tried using the laptop in other homes as well, in case it was the electrical wiring at my place. That didn't fix it either.
    *sigh*
I can't afford hundreds of dollars spent testing a Toshiba model when I could have just bought it brand new and with a guarantee for all that cost. The ebay seller has never had this problem before and has been helpful - and it is now past the 90 day warranty period, so I can hardly send it back (all up I'd have lost at least $150 AUS on shipping then, as well!)

  • Portege Z830: Can't install Win7, complains about missing CD/DVD driver

    Hi!
I have a brand new Portege Z830 and as usual wanted to start with installing a new installation of Windows 7 x64 (as I don't want the supplied software and can't trust that it is safe anyway). I backed up the entire drive, prepared a bootable USB flashdisk with Windows installation and started it. The flashdisk boots OK, Windows ask me about my preferred language and keyboard, then shows a screen where I can choose between Install, Repair and something else (Recovery Console, I think).
I click Install, Windows starts the installation program aand as soon as a first dialog appears, it shows an error message which says essentially this (it's a translation of my localized Windows' message): "A required driver for CD/DVD drive is missing. If you use a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or flashdisk, insert it now." And I can't get over this error message. The strange thing is, there is no reason for Windows to require any extra drivers, as it can (apparently) read the installation flashdisk and it can see the ultrabook's SSD, too (can be verified both in the recovery console and by clicking the Browse button of this dialog). So far I tried:
    1) Four different Windows 7 images (two of them from MSDN AA, two physical, all of which have been successfully used to install the OS before).
    2) Switch SATA mode from AHCI to Compatible.
    3) Two different flashdisks.
    4) All possible combinations of boot order.
Nothing worked. I even tried e-mailing Toshiba, but all messages come back with "user unknown" (understandable, I had to guess the addresses since Toshiba doesn't seem to provide any official way to contact them - or is hiding it so well I couldn't find it). Does anyone have any idea what I could try next? I rather like the Z830 and would love to use it, but the ability to install my own installation of the OS is essential for me.
    Thanks, Pepak

    > I even tried e-mailing Toshiba...
Maybe stupid question now but have you tried to contact Microsoft too? If BIOS is OK and if all USB ports are working properly I dont think it is Toshiba related issue. Toshiba offers notebook with original recovery image (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM) and possibility to create bootable USB with recovery image that can be used anytime you want.
What you do now is your own OS installation. What Toshiba must do is to offer all important drivers, tools and utilities on drivers download page.
What else you can try? Try to obtain external USB ODD and try to install WIN7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im pretty sure this will work.

  • Portege Z830 - screen has been broken and I need to replace it

    Hi
I have Toshiba Portege z830. My screen has been broken and I need to replace it.
Is it possible to install some IPS screen instead of original LTN133AT25-601? Which IPS screen is compatible with LTN133AT25-601?

    Hi
The original LCD which was used in Z830 was an 13.3"(HD) 1366 x 768 TFT Color LCD.
So if you want to use other display, then you should pay attention to the screen size and the connectors.
I think these are most important key elements.

  • I'm trying to isolate skin with a secondary layer and am successful.  I want to blur the skin to reduce blemishes but when doing so the blur and degrain sliders don't seem to have an effect. Can I apply a gaussian blur fx on just that secondary? Can't see

I'm trying to isolate skin with a secondary layer and am successful.  I want to blur the skin to reduce blemishes but when doing so the blur and degrain sliders don't seem to have an effect. Can I apply a gaussian blur fx on just that secondary? Can't seem to figure this out.  Is there a better way to smooth skin?

Here's an Adobe help page for isolating skin with suggestion on the use of the blur slider also:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/speedgrade/using/apply-secondary-color-corrections.html
And here's one of the original creators of Iridas/SpeedGrade, Patrick Palmer, a six minute vid-tut on using secondaries (specifically in CS6 but this hasn't changed):
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-speedgrade-cs6/secondary-color-correction-in-speedgrade-cs 6/
I'd note, the "blur" and "denoise" tools on the Secondary tab are more about smoothing the keying of the secondary ... they apply a bit of blur or de-noising to make the secondary smoother and cover over the odd pixel or three or four that don't "fit" the key of the secondary in the middle of something you're aiming for.
In current SpeedGrade, I'd try using the Guassian Blur (Range) effect, and sample a good range of the skin tones.
And a lot of people use Red Giant's "Cosmo" plug-in over in AfterEffects or Premiere Pro ... it's a tool designed specifically for working skin tones, dealing with blemishes, wrinkles, spots, and such.

  • Will the officejet 6500a plus be ready for printing when the mains supply is turned on

I am considring the purchase of an Officejet 6500a Plus (duplex is a prime reason) it will be used in a home office environment with Win 7 operating system. I can remotely swithch on the mains supply to the printer and router. Will the printer be available to print (after start up checks) without further intervention?  eg. do i need to depress the start button on the printer?
    Many thanks in anticipation Jimbow

The printer should come up "ready" after a minute or so and accept print jobs without any intervention on the front panel.
That said, it would be much better to leave the printer turned on and let the automatic power management take care of putting the printer into a low power state.  If you remove power from the printer remotely there is a risk of having the printheads not properly capped after a print job.  This can cause the printheads to dry out, causing print quality issues.  It will also result in extra ink being used when the printer power is restored as more servicing will be performed on the printhead.

  • Re: Portege Z830-11j - Sim card not detected

Portege Z830-11j I have this laptop... it is great,
However the right side drawer supposed to a SIM card is not detectable when it installed.
Is there some lack of software, or other setup required.
    Can anyone help?
    +Message was translated+

Do you use this notebook with Toshiba preinstalled and preconfigured Win 7 system?
Did you change something in the system configuration?
Is 3G module recognized in the device manager?
Please check this because due to missing and not installed 3G Ericsson driver, the sim module would not be recognized by system and the inserted sim card could not be handled.

  • Portege Z830-10F - WLAN stops working when USB3.0 port is in use

    Hi,
The wireless connection on my Portege Z830-10F stops working whenever I plug a device into the USB 3 port. The wireless connection comes back up as soon as I remove the device.
The problem happens with any device I plug in. I've tested with external usb disks (both usb 2 and usb 3), usb sticks, a wireless mouse receiver, and a printer/scanner.
This problem only happens when something is attached to the USB 3 port. The USB 2 ports located at the back do not have the problem.
The USB 3 port itself is working fine.
    Currently running windows 8 pro:
    * Wireless lan adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR9200WB-1NG (driver version 10.0.0.75)
    * USB 3 port: Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096 (driver version 6.2.9200.16420)
As far as I can see Ive got the latest drivers installed on both the wireless lan adapter and the usb 3 host controller.
The problem occurs both under windows 7 and windows 8 pro. I used the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8.
This problem has been present ever since i first got this laptop. Ive already done a reinstall / recovery back to original setup with windows 7 but this doesnt solve the problem.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there a way to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi
To be honest this is the first time I read about such issue.
I have no idea how an device attached to USB 3.0 port could affect the Wlan functionality.
I guess its hardware fault and this should be checked by an Toshiba authorized service provider.

  • Re: VPN doesn't work on my new Portege Z830

I recently bought a portege z830. I installed watchguard firebox vpn connection software but i can not establish a vpn connection. I enter the username and password, the program seems to make a connection but it disconnects immediately. There's no problem with the password or username.
The software works fine in other notebooks. The OS on the machine is Windows 7 Prof.(X64).
    Thanks

I really dont know if described issue has anything directly with your new Portege. I presume you need this for your business or you must use it in your company so I strongly recommend you to speak with your local administrator and check what can be done about it.
On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. On my Satellite P500 I use Cisco AnyConnect VPN client and it works perfectly with preinstalled original Toshiba recovery image. It is Win7 64bit Home Premium.

Yes, I have tested with other bootable disc and it works ok with them.

  • Alternative power chargers for Portege Z830

    Hello,
I 've got PORTEGE Z830-11M and with original 45W, 19V *PA3822U-1ACA* AC Adapter.
Can I use for charging it also more powerful 75W, 19V original TOSHIBA *PA3468E-1AC3* adapter, which I have on the other location?
Is it good for z830 or not and why? The only difference between them is power, I suppose more is better (less heat for charger) or not?
    Thank you for answers.

Brixx, thank you for answer, but I still don't know, why TOSHIBA service says that I should use exactly PA3822U-1ACA AC Adapter.
There are many TOSHIBA types of chargers with DC 19V output connector 5.5/2.5 mm and also other brands like ASUS which with their electrical specifications fit z830 laptop.
I would say, all chargers with at least 45 W and constant 19V DC voltage and of course 5.5/2.5 mm connector would be OK. But it seems they are not. I'm interested why?
DC electric current depends on DC voltage and battery resistance. So if PA3822U-1ACA has constant DC voltage 19 V for load 0 - 45 W, why other more powerful chargers are not recomended?
Is there any electronics inside charger which comunicates with z830 laptop and limits current (adapt voltage to limit current - so 19V is not constant) ... or such electronics is inside z830?

  • Portege Z830 white spots - warranty refusal

I have Portege Z830. From several months I have 2 white spots on the screen. I went to the official service company for Bulgaria - Stemo Ltd. - which examined the computer and told me that I did this white spots by myself.
This is amazing! I imagined myself pressing the display with a screwdriver trying to make a white spot.
Seriously, user cannot by any means make this white spots. This is a malfunction of the display and the Stemo's refusal to replace it or mend it is not understandable.
I am adding pictures of the screen with well visible spots.
Please help or just take in mind the Stemo's reaction.

    Hi
    Inside a Plexiglas screen.
Plexiglas is covered with a special coating.
This coating when the damage (moisture, scratches caused by pressure on housing, defect FACTORY coating).
The solution is to remove the coating from the plexiglass. The layer is removed very easily and the matrix will shine brighter after the surgery. Plexiglas is very difficult to dismantle because it is very delicate and fragile.
Shell, which is the need to remove the Plexiglas. I applied the additional light-scattering films that I took out the old display. It helped disperse the light and the dots are not visible. Shell is not washed up.
I think it is a manufacturer defect.
    The matrix is ??Samsun.

  • Portege Z830 - Changing/deleting Bios password

When I started up my new Portege Z830, I was given the option during set up, of putting in a bios password.
I did so, but am now regretting it, as I have to put in two passwords, the bios and windows, before can start doing anything. As I don't need the bios one, how do I get into the system to change or delete it, now that I don't have access to the set up screens?
    Thanks

You can delete it in BIOS options directly or using Toshiba tool in Windows Supervisor password utility.
I recommend you to perform complete shutdown and then after notebook restart enter BIOS settings and delete it there.

  • Portege Z830-10F and battery calibration

I have a problem with Portege Z830-10F battey.
With no alerts, shut down, and when begin charge the level begin at 51%.
In 1 hour the charge is full.
There is a metod to calibrate the battery ?
    Best regards.
    Nicola

    > There is a method to calibrate the battery?
The battery can be calibrated by discharging the battery until it would be fully empty and then charging until the battery indicator would switch to green (in some cases blue). This indicates that the battery has been recharged.
This whole procedure should be repeated several times in the row.
But note: even if you would calibrate the battery, it might be possible that the battery would not provide the same performance because of the battery age.
Sooner or later every battery would start to lose the charging performance and in such case its just a matter of time when the battery should be replaced.
