Portege Z930 - Win8 Upgrade Offer fails

Hello!
31.Oct.2012 we purchased Portege Z930-G1S (PT234R) - quite an expensive notebook with Win7 Home Premium OS.
We thought we are entitled to Win8 discounted upgrade, but as we entered our data on Microsoft site - they told us we're not entitled.
We tried to reach Toshiba support in Russia - http://ru.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/contact_toshiba.jsp
Several times over a month.
But all the mails are returning with "invalid recepient address" error.
How can it be that official Toshiba support site enlists invalid blacklisted address ?
How can it be that recent and quite expensive Toshiba notebook is not subject to Windows 8 upgrade program ?
Thank you.

Hi
Please check this page how to upgrade to from Win 7 to Win 8:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/windows8-upgrade-stepbystep
The point is that you have to order Windows 8 from Microsoft and install it.
If it fails contact Microsoft why the Win 8 order has failed.
From my knowledge Toshiba provides an Win 8 drivers. You can get this drivers using TOSHIBA Upgrade Assistant but you can do that after Win 8 has been installed!
I found this Toshiba Win 8 Info page about Win 8 upgrade

  • Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.
Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.
The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.
So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.
Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.
The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.
    All help gratefully received.
    Andrew

    > So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
    Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless
Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.
But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

  • Windows 8 upgrade on Portege Z930

    Hallo!
Just got my Portege Z930 PT235E with Windows 7 Pro preinstelled and Winds 8 DVD.
I tried to upgrade to Windows 8 but unsecessful. Starting from boot I get message that this is not bootable dvd. Also tried to start setup under Windows 7 but there is no setup.exe on DVD...
What is the process to upgrade it to Win 8?

    Really strange
Anyway before trying to install Win 8, you should definitely create an Recovery disk containing the preinstalled Win 7 system!
Why? Because you will not be able to install Win 7 anymore without the recovery disk.
So if you want to use Win 7 in the future, create such disk.
    Now back to Win 8.
Please access the BIOS and switch from CSM to UEFI.
Save the changes and then boot from the Win 8 DVD
Would be interesting to know if this would work

  • Choppy, distorted audio on Portege Z930 after updating from Win7 to Win8 64

Just wanted to share an info with you which cost me some time to work out, regarding the audio playback on a Portege Z930.
When I got my brand new Z930-14L, it was running Win7.
I tested everything like you do when you get a new machine and it all worked fine - including audio playback.
When I updated to Win8-64 from the CDs that came with the computer, still everything seemed to work fine and I had not changed any driver or setup.
However, after a couple of minutes, the audio playback detoriated. It got choppy, distorted, interrupted, stuttering and I was shocked.
Funnily, as soon as I turned my attention to the computer again, playback was OK again - though no screensaver had come up and no power save mode came up in such short time. I knew it was no hardware issue (because it worked under Win7), it was not a driver issue (because the first 5 minutes the sound was immaculate), it was not a ground loop (as many have suggested) because that sounds differently.
Thanks to another forum, I found out that it is actually the combination of Windows Defender, Win8-64 Pro and the audio driver that causes this. If the device is idle for some minutes, Defender thinks its a good idea to use the idle time to scan the SSD drive - causing inteference with the audio playback. Of course, you cannot simply disable or switch off the central antivirus process, which would kinda ruin the whole point. :-)
_So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the issue was gone!_ This is probably the only time that installing an antivirus suite FIXES an issue. :-)
BTW, this is probably not limited to this particular antivirus product, just play a bit with Defender.
    Best, Yuppie

    >So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the issue was gone! This is probably the only time that installing an antivirus suite FIXES an issue.
Thank you very much for sharing this details here in the community.
I guess information could be useful for others who have such similar sound problems.

  • Portege Z930 - Display Driver doesn't work correctly

    Hello,
we have a Portege Z930 with Windows 7 64 bit in use where the Intel Display Driver seem to work incorrectly.
First problem is the slow presentation on display - if we open a picture (simple JPG) and move the window, the window frame will break during the move and be shown very bizarre.
Next we installed a dynadock U3.0 docking station for using two external displays additionally. This works even worse. For the docking station we used the driver from the CD included on delivery, and we connect it over an USB 3.0 slot.
On booting switching onto the 2 displays instead of the internal notebook display doesn't work - so we use the workaround of using an extended desktop over all 3 displays (2 externals and the internal notebook display as third).
In Internet Explorer we had to switch off GPU Rendering and use Software Rendering instead because otherwise we observed critical misfunctions on the external displays (having 2 windows open the display froze or couldn't show moving windows). Nevertheless the display is not satisfactioning.
We already tried 3 different versions of the recommendet Intel Driver which is also offered by Toshiba for download; we loaded it there and also 2 more versions (one newer, one older) from Intel directly.
So how can we get that working correctly?
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    N. Cochems

Most importantly. make sure you have Win7 Service Pack 1 installed. New notebooks have problems running in win7 RTM (no service packs).
Sounds like Windows is using the standard VGA driver instead of the Intel driver. Uninstall all the display drivers from Control Panel->Programs and Features then go to the Toshiba website and install the Intel Chipset Utility then the Intel Display Driver, then go to DisplayLink.com and install the latest DisplayLink driver for the dynadock. The new DisplayLink v7.xx driver fixes many problems found in the v6.xx drivers.
Double check that the Intel drivers are installed correctly in Device Manager.

  • Extended warranty for Portege Z930-8113

Is Extended warranty ( Part number: EXT103I-V ) available for Portege Z930-8113?

In my opinion you should pick up info about warranty on official Toshiba page like http://www.toshiba.eu/services/warranty-extension/
Other way contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider in your country. They can help you and offer exact information.

  • Portege Z930-12J - WiDi update to version 3.5 and higher

Hi, I have to update WiDi at my computer to 3.5 or higher because it is needed for establishing connection with the smart TV. It requires to update also the graphics driver but none of these drivers are available via TEMPRO.
When I try to install it directly from the Intel support site it says that the graphics driver was not authorised by Toshiba. Thanx for any suggestion! (But I would rather avoid upgrading of my Win to 8.1 and using Miracast.)
    PC - Toshiba Portege Z930-12J
    OS Win7

    > When I try to install it directly from the Intel support site it says that the graphics driver was not authorised by Toshiba.
As far as I know you can install the Intel graphic card driver through the device manager.
You have to download the Intel driver page (zip) including the single driver files.
Then you have to perform the update using the Advanced installation procedure which will allow you to point directly to the zip package.
The system would pick up the driver files from this folder automatically.

  • Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant failed on Satellite P775

I tried running the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on my Satellite P775.
    It started by displaying
Checking Components; download Windows 8 Components data.
    Reading Components.
Got component TOSHIBA Wireless LAN Indicator
    ... etc ...
Got Component TOSHIBA Contrasena de supervisor
    Reading Windows Components.
    then displayed a Message Box
"Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file."
    How can I solve this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes I followed that procedure.
My model is Satellite P775-112 PSBY3E and is listed as being compatible
After installing Windows 8, I noticed that the DVD drive was no longer accessible, as described in the following thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=68222&tstart=0
So I disabled the Windows Service "Toshiba Optical Disc Drive Service" (TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8), and the DVD drive is now visible. However Toshiba Video Player still does not work (says it has compatibility issues) and I can not view DVD videos.
I then ran the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, which failed immediately with the error "Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file".
I found some posts on the forum with a similar error with the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant (Failed to read Target (Windows 7) INI file. None of the posts has a clear description of what this error means but I've tried all of the suggestions.
    Here's a list of what I've tried:
    - Rebooted
    - Upgraded BIOS to latest version (2.10)
    - Run Upgrade Assistant as Administrator
    - Run Upgrade Assistant with "Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8 started or stopped.
My main problems at the moment are:
    - Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service causes DVD drive to disappear
    - Toshiba Video Player won't run
    - No way to view DVDs
I'd be happy to install the drivers and applications individually if the Upgrade Assistant doesn't work - is there anywhere I can download them?

  • Cannot download BIOS file for Portege Z930 - error 404

    Hi,
My tempro tool says there is a new BIOS available for my Portege Z930.
    But the link gives nothing.
Can someone fix this ? Or have the correct link
    Thank you
    Markus

+1 This is very frustrating. Tempro alerts are all very well but no use at all if Toshiba can't be bothered to maintain links!
    Please fix asap, Toshiba.

  • Portege Z930-10E - broken screen twice in 3 months only

I am laptop user since 12 years. July, 30th I bought my Portege Z930, thinking it was my best decision in many years.
Less than a month later, when opening the screen during a flight, its simply broken the screen, making it impossible to use any more.
After sending it to official service in Spain, I was told that it was my fault and for a bad use, so I had to pay more than 300 (almost 400$). I claimed to customer support, explaining them about their excessive flexible top and rigid screen, and nothing new.
    It was only my fault.
Last Octobers, 11th again when opening my top, this time using a tape label attached by myself, in order to avoid blending the screen, it scratched again.
I can`t afford this is only my fault but it is a real design problem, to get the lightest ultrabook in market.
If anyone may give me support for this serious problem, it will be very appreciated

    Hi
This is really amazing story and I believe you are the first one who reports about something like this.
Portege Z930 is for a while on the market and I never heard about such issues.
Please dont understand me wrong but it is really strange that this happen already three times.
I saw this machine and the whole construction seems pretty stabile to me. When you open the display I hope your fingers are placed in the middle of the display cover and not by the side. The pressure on display cover hinges must be the same. If you hold the display on one side only I can imagine that something like this can happen but it shouldnt.
Portege series is one of the best Toshibas business notebooks so I believe Toshiba designer and technicians take it very seriously and I cannot imagine that they make such design mistake.
I still have old Portege 2000 and it was lightest notebook at this time with very sensible display and display cover hinges but there is no problem at all.
We can discuss here for days and I really hope that someone with the same Portege can post own experiences but all this you must try to clarify with Toshiba. Be careful when you open it and hold the display in the middle only.
    Good luck.

  • Portege Z930: How to create GPRS / Wifi / LAN connection profiles?

    Hi !
I can't find any software (Toshiba or Intel) on my Portege Z930 that can manage
connections profiles to automatically be connected on GPRS or Wifi or LAN regardless to connections available (office, home, public area...)
Toshiba Wirelss manager runs with GPRS only and not wifi or lan
    Thanks for your help !
    Best Regards

    Hi
Such universal utility is not known to me.
The Toshiba Wireless manager handles the 3G profiles.
For Wlan connectivity and profile management you could use the TOSHIBA Configfree
    Here a short details:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Features-Knowledge-Base/TOSHIBA-Configfree-Utilities/ta-p/347098
Well, and LAN would works until the LAN cable is connected :)

  • FrameMaker 9 upgrade offer -- Adobe sales lacks information. Any ideas?

When I started up my Frame 9 copy, the splash screen displays a "Limited Period Offer" of 40% off to buy FM 12. Except the Adobe 12 web page, the direct sales rep I called, and the customer support rep I was transferred to have no information about this.
Does anyone have any more information about upgrading FM 9, and how I might actually "save 40%" when upgrading?
A screen shot of part of the FM splash screen with the upgrade offer is here:

Besides being expired, I seem to recall that the offer was only for a
discount on the subscription version of the program and not on the
perpetual license version. The subscription version is bad because, if
you stop paying the subscription fee, the software stops working.
Upgrade pricing is only available from FM10 or FM11.
I must say that I do not like Adobe's upgrade policies. A person who has
already purchased FrameMaker 9 has already paid for 99% of the features
in FM12. Why they should be forced to buy the new version of the program
at full price just to get a few new features is ridiculously unfair.
