Portfolio Design

Hello Adobe Forum,
I have created an architectural portfolio using Indesign, and have also created a portfolio for print which came out great.  However, I am now in the process of creating a portfolio in an interactive PDF so that I can have the option to e-mail it to prospective employers.  My questions is, what is the best way to go about doing this using Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5?  I have noticed that since I have saved the portfolio as an Interactive PDF the images are blurry.  The images that bother me the most are the samples of my work that were created in AutoCAD.  The CAD images are so blurry that it would be difficult for a prospective employer to see while viewing online.  I am fairly new at using Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 and would appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Quanta Design

Four things to check:
1. The quality of the images, like Jeffery said. You might have to sacrifice quality or load time.
2. Your description "images are so blurry that it would be difficult for a prospective employer to see while viewing" sounds to me like your links might have gotten broken somehow. Did you update, change or move the image files?
3. There are a couple of settings that can mess with how your images are rendered in InDesign and I'm still not convinced they don't magically change on their own - but the export should be fine if this is the case. First, under View->Display Performance make sure that High Quality Display is checked; second, Object->Display Performance->High Quality Display, same thing.
4. Sometimes when I'm going back and forth between print and web, I mix up settings a lot. If the problem is happening when you export, double check your final resolution, your downsampling, etc.
Hope something helps.

  • Created Adobe Portfolio - now all pdf reload with open

    Help! I needed to email 70 pdfs. Instead of putting them all into one large pdf, I used the 'suggestion' in the new Macintosh Acrobat Pro 9 that I use a Pdf Portfolio. ( I used three Portfolios, then emailed them using the "email this portfolio" button that is incorporated into the Portfolio design.)
    That worked with mixed results (some of the recipients couldn't open the portfolios, probably because they were using an older version of Acrobat.)
    However, the problem I am having is now when I open my Acrobat program, it automatically attempts to load ALL the pdfs from one of the Portfolio. It keeps opening them until it can't open any more. Then I have to force quit.
    I looked in the  System file to find a preferences file or something like that in order to throw it out, and hope that the program would rebuild a new one - but I couldn't figure out what might provide the same function. (It's been a while since I looked in a Mac  System  Folder.)
    Does anyone have a fix for this?
    Thanks!
    CLShay

    Rule number one: NEVER MESS WITH THE SYSTEM FOLDER.
    You can mess with the Library folder, you can mess with your USER Library Folder, but if you mess with the SYSTEM FOLDER you will find out that TOAST can refer to more than the ROXIO CD/DVD burning software.
    Preference files can be found in Library/Preferences (you will find nothing useful here for you)
    There is Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat (nothing useful here either)
    Users/username/Library/Adobe/Acrobat (delete as you wish-however you may not like the results)
    Users/username/Library/"Application Support/Aodbe/Acrobat" (nothing useful here)
    Users/username/Library/Preferences/Acrobat (this is what you are looking for---delete as necessary)
    However, my recommendation is to use a utility like Applejack or Onyx to remove both system and user caches.

  • Portfolio using Kuler API

    I've been working on creating a portfolio for myself and thought it would be cool to integrate the Adobe Kuler API into it.
    Here's what I came up with: http://www.joelb.me
    Feedback on the portfolio design is appreciated, and I'd love it if my site could get featured on the API samples page

    ah, ok. got it. this is what you need to do-
    1. get your own api key
    2. in your rss url, you'll need to add something like this to
    the end of the url string "
    http://kuler.adobe.com/kuler/API/rss/get.cfm?key=D3..."
    hope that helps

  • PDF Export Looks Good at 150% Zoom, but Bad on 100%

    Hi,
    I'm extremely new to InDesign, and am trying to make a colourful resume/portfolio design using ID, but am running into an issue already with exporting via PDF.
    The original issue was that the logo (which has my name and occupation(s)) were coming out SUPER blurry as a PSD I "placed" in the ID document (I tried PNG and Photoshop PDF as well, to no improvement).  After a lot of struggling with export options, I went back to PhotoShop and changed the PSD from 72 ppi to 300 ppi, which increased the dimensions of the PSD but improved the quality significantly.
    However, now I find that the PDF file looks great in Acrobat on larger zooms (150% and 200%), but bad on 100% (where it seems like it's being "downscaled," so the smaller text looks awfully compressed).  I've experimented with ppi's in between (240, 180, etc), but it ends up becoming "blurry" at 100%, like the 72 ppi setting.
    Any ideas on how I can fix this so the logo looks crisp at 100% on a PDF export?
    Thanks,
    RTL
    Image (full-size): http://www.starrcadia.com/logo2.png

    Hi Willi,
    I tried a PNG once earlier (when I was still trying to fix the 72 ppi logo), but since it had no improvement, I abandoned the PNG way before (it's a PSD in those screenshots above).
    The PSD is still layered in Photoshop.  I took your advice and imported it into Illustrator, and saved as an AI file, and then placed that in the ID, but it wasn't an improvement.  I notice that everything (including text I wrote in ID) looks far superior on 150% zoom in Acrobat, and perfect on 200%, but 100% seems to downscale all of the content (except the background).
    Thanks!

  • Exporting PDF's from Photoshop - Low quality / messed up image in Acrobat

    Hi guys, I am having this problem for quite some time now and i can't figure it out.
    So i have created a portfolio design in Photoshop, and now i want to export that out of Photoshop into images / pdf  combining all the files into one PDF
    The problem i have is that the output from Photoshop when it gets into Acrobat, has all kinds of artifacts and different (low) image quality.
    I have used all the presets from the "save as pdf" menu in Photoshop as well as exporting as png's or jpegs and creating pdf from Acrobat.
    Is this a rendering bug from Acrobat ? When i zoom enough, the problem disappears.
    Should i use a specific option / preset when i export from Photoshop ?
    Thanks.

    Try turning off Compression and Color Conversion when saving the PDF out of Photoshop.

  • Basic InD questions - purchasing only InDesign CC

    hi - this will be my first time participating in CC software (been using CS2 on my computer for ages...but it barely runs now). If I am ONLY purchasing InDesign (need it for personal portfolio design) then I am assuming I can still export to PDF even though I am not purchasing Acrobat Pro?
    Will I be able to open my old CS2 files in the new version?

    Yes, from File>export>adobe pdf (print or interactive), and yes you can open cs2 on indesign cc.

  • Case Recommendation: Marware EcoView, Empire, or InCase Convertible?

    Hi all,
    Planning on getting an iPad, but before I do I want to have a case along with screen protector. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the cases that have a portfolio design such as the following:
    - Marware EcoView
    - Empire Leather Case
    - InCase Convertible case
    I'm open to any other recommendations or suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Ed

    I bought the Sena Leather Case and I love it.
    Solid, Quality!
    Only problem is when you fold the cover all the way back, the leather strap that clips it closed gets inteh way a bit, but ok.
    This case will last.
    The iPad fits well, access to all ports and buttons.
    easy to charge while in the case.

  • Web design company looking for iPad app to display my portfolio at a trade show

    I run a small web development business and have my first trade show coming up. I'll have a booth setup and was hoping to have my iPad out on the table for people to pick up and scroll through my portoflio (ie web designs, logo concepts, etc.). I've seen this app:
    Portfolio for iPad
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/portfolio-for-ipad/id384210950?mt=8
    which looks great but I was wondering if anyone else had other options. I like the idea that the above app allows you to lock the device so that users can only scroll through the portfolio and need a PIN to do anything else.
    I don't have much experience with the iPad as I just got it and I don't do any app development. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

    Locking the iPad so that a user can't exit an app isn't possible for any developer to implement, since the developer kit doesn't provide that sort of access to the low-level routines in iOS. The only way to lock into a single app is to use a case/frame that covers the Home button (and turn off the gesture support in the settings in iOS 5).  A number of companies make kiosk mounts for this purpose.
    Regards.

  • Can't edit a LC Designer form in a portfolio

    I created forms in LC Designer and I'm now trying to add a header and footer to the forms which have been added to a portfolio I created in Acrobat 9 Pro.  I get an error message that states "You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this task."  I have removed all security from the document and the portfolio, but I notice that the restriction for changing the document in the form document security properties is still present no matter what I do.  I presume this is why I can't add the header/footer.  Is there anything I can do to remove this restriction so I can?

    The problem is that XFA based PDF Form (a form created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer) cannot be edited using Acrobat.  There is no way around this.

  • Best way (folio/bounding) to display a printed portfolio? (Graphic Design question)

    Hi all,
    Apologies if this isnt posted in the correct forum (but I wasnt able to find any mainstream graphic design forums, I know there is ultrashock but that's more flash based, if anyone could point me to some would be great.)
    Any how my question is what is the best portfolio type (paper/binded folder/display sheets) to display printed graphic design work in to potential clients or employers etc?
    I had been using protective sheets, but then a client of mine showed me what someone else had done for them and it was displayed in a huge thick A3 bound portfolio (you couldnt see or tell how each peice of paper was bound to the edge). I'm thinking that's what I really need and really professional type looking folio presented like that, but I don't know of what you would call that type of folio/bounding etc.
    Any help would be great

    I prefer to do wire-o because you can change the pages out as your portfolio changes. I also like to have vellum slip sheets in-between because it looks more professional as well has assure that the prints do not stick together. I prefer to go with printed plastic transparent covers with an emboss as well as foil stampings with double hit blacks consisted of gloss UV coatings in patterns of textiles, but that gets costly.
    Other then that, I think you will have more success creating an on line portfolio. Most people don't have the time to look at hard copies, but it's good to have a back up hard copy for face to face situations.

  • Graphic Design Portfolio apps?

    I'm a graphic designer and I would like to consider using my iPad as a digital portfolio if I go on an interview, but I haven't found an iPad app that I like. Any suggestions? Only apps I've found are for photographers...
    I can set up a simple slideshow but I would like something a little more "creative."
    Thanks.

    I've also thought about using an iPad for my portfolio, but I'm not sold on the idea yet... Displaying your work on a laptop is probably a better option, though not as slick...
    I've discussed this with some other designers and the general consensus is that wowing an interviewer with a cool piece of technology might overshadow your actual work. Afterall, the work is what they care about, not the technology.
    And although the iPad's screen is vibrant, it's small (compared to a physical portfolio) and resolution is limited to 1024x768.
    Then there's logistics... If the interviewer is holding the iPad, you'll have to get quite cozy with them to point or zoom-in to different parts of the work, or to jump to the next item.
    I think you would definitely want to have paper prints of your work with you if you went the iPad route.

    Hello,
    Goto start menu -> Run -> give '%temp%' and execute. This will show the temp folder here, then find the folder BW and delete this folder complately. Now open BEx analyzer for the first time after this & connect with system, so that the right texts are entered to the temp file in the desktop.
    After this the issue should be fixed.
    Best Regards,

    Farooq,
    If you look at the first one, you should be able to align quite easily as follows, View>Smart Guides being your friends:
    1a) ClickDrag the top flower with the Selection Tool (black arrow) so it is clear of the pointy part;
    1b) Click an empty spot on the Artboard to deselect, then ClickDrag the top flower by its bottom Anchor Point (Smart Guides say anchor when you are close enough to grab it) down to snap to the top Anchor Point on the pointy part (Smart Guides say anchor when you are close enough);
    1c) Do the same for the boroom flower.
    If you look at the third one, to get the triangles and the hexagon sized and aligned precisely, you may, creating them with stroke and no fill:
    3a) Click with the Polygon Tool and select a suitable/chosen Radius and 6 Sides, then Object>Transform>Rotate by 30 degrees (or use the Rotate option in the Transform palette), you may Object>Transform>Reset Bounding Box to have it look nicer;
    3b) Click with the Polygon Tool and select the same Radius and 3 sides, then deselect and ClickDrag the top Anchor Point to snap to the top Anchor Point of the hexagon;
    3c) Object>Transform>Rotate by 180 degrees clicking Copy, deselect, and ClickDrag the bottom Anchor Point to snap to the bottomAnchor Point of the hexagon;
    3d) Select all and Ctrl/Cmd+G to Group (for alignment purposes, you will know why if you try without grouping, see below).
    To create full symmetry, you may use circles rather than almost circular ellipses; you may:
    3d) Click with the Ellipse Tool and select a suitable/chosen Width = height;
    3e) Object>Transform>Move a copy vertically by the Height (= Width) twice (or you may Ctrl/Cmd+D to repeat), to get three circles over one another with no gaps;
    3f) Select the topmost and bottommost ones and Object>Transform>Rotate a copy by 120 degrees twice, to have all the seven circles precisley touching one another; you may Group them, but it is not necessary.
    To have everything aligned, just:
    3g) Select everything and click Vertical Align Center and Horizontal Align Center in the Align palette; you may click the pointy group or the circles ojnce more before aligning if you want to keep it in place (that will make it the key object that the other set is aligned to).
    These ways may also help you further.
    Edit: About half an hour after midnight here. High time to attend to other duties, before the sun is up.
