Portfolio hyperlink question- iweb 1.1.2

Hi,
I'm using iweb ver 1.1.2.  When creating hyperlinks to other pages- ie a portfolio with multiple images that each connect to individual pages- where do those other pages exist?  Do I need to create separate files for each these pages or can I hide/embed them in the primary website but only be accessible from that one image?  Probably very basic stuff, but I'm having trouble finding the info.  Many thanks!

Add the pages to your existing site but exclude them from the navigation menu using the Page inspector.

Do you meant a link to one of your other pages or to a location on one of your pages?  If it's the latter those are called anchors and iWeb does not support them.  However, there are workarounds for that.  See this blog: How to use anchors in iWeb.  If you don't have a lot of widgets on the page it can work fairly well.

  • Changing hyperlinks in iweb

when i attempted to reformat the hyperlinks in iweb, it wouldn't allow me to change anything on the site. i disabled the links, went to formatting and won't allow anything.
    any ideas?

glad to help. I have been daydreaming about a third-party iWeb master site...where all the other sites are linking to. It would hold all the knowledge folks have learned over the years, and it would still be up if Apple deep sixes this iWeb discussion group.
There are so many little hints and tricks that make using iWeb so much more fun. I know there a lot of folks here who have their own iweb help sites, but it will take a ton of google search to find them after this focus for iWeb users goes dark...if it fact, it does.

  • Hyperlink to iWeb Page not working

I have created an iWeb page. I have a hyperlink to the page on a document. The hyperlink takes me to a mobile me error page ie "We can't find the page you requested. Please make sure the URL is spelled and capitalized correctly, and try again."
Yet if I copy and paste the exact same url I have entered in the hyperlink filed into the address bar on Safari it goes to the right page no problems.
    Any ideas please?

Is that the page you're trying to link to in the PDF document?
I was able to place a hyperlink in an rtfd text file and and Word 2008 document to your web page that works. The link in the Word document takes about 5 to 7 seconds to get to Safari and open the Page. The rtfd document, created with Bean
Bean, a great, free word processor, opens the page in Safari almost immediately.
In Work I used the Insert ➙ Hyperlink menu option and entered the URL of you page and the text to use as the link. For the Bean document I clicked and dragged the link title at the top of your web page onto the Bean page and saved as a rtfd formatted file. If the page is saved as a plain text document the hyperlink is lost.
If I do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save as PDF from Bean I get a working link in the resulting PDF file. But with Word the link does not work.

  • Is there a maximum file size (or number of hyperlinks) for iWeb?

This isn't a problem, just a concern. I've built a very large iWeb file to keep track of a genealogy project and the file is getting big: there are 1800+ people listed in the file, each with her/his individual page; each page has a minimum of 6 hyperlinks (links to parents, children, indexes and home page); and the size of the iWeb domain file is approaching 600MB. It's a tiny file compared to Wikipedia, but I'm seeing the pinwheel "cursor of death" for c. 30 seconds whenever I launch iWeb and getting a bit nervous. Am I getting close to some sort of size/complexity limit for the iWeb program? Thanks in advance for any advice. (By the way, I don't plan to publish the genealogy on any sites; I always publish it to DVD-ROMs for family use only, so uploading is not a concern.)

David ~ Probably. iWeb simply wasn't designed to do what you're doing with it. Although iWeb may not have a numerical limit on size or links, bear in mind that it was designed for small personal sites.
One thing you could do to reduce the size is post some of your data on an external site such as Posterous and hyperlink to it. Posterous will automatically place PDFs in a convenient viewer, e.g.
    http://dont-panic.posterous.com
By the way, the PDF there was converted from Posterous' web page via this:
_Free online URL to PDF Converter_
And Weebly allows sub-pages (and sub-sub-pages) accessible via drop-down menu. This might allow you to organize your data in a more structured way than iWeb allows:
    _Weebly Support Center: Sub-Pages_

  • How can I change a hyperlink in iweb site?

In my iweb site I have a hyperlink to an external page.  I now want to change that link, and have it link to one of my internal pages.  I changed the link in iweb, republished the files, uploaded them to my host site, but the link still goes to the original external page.  How can I fix this?

Select the text or item that is the hyperlink and bring up the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane:
Select One of My Pages from the Link To: menu and select the page you want to link to.

  • Portfolio layout question

Hi, I am new to dreamweaver and want to create a very basic online portfolio of my photographic work.  I want to know how to make next/previous buttons on a page so only the image changes as you click either button. An example I found is here http://www.keithdavisyoung.com/
Sorry if it's a silly question! I don't even know what I could search for...
any help would be greatly appreciated

Depends on how much experience you have with code.
You can use any one of several different jQuery slideshow, Gallery or Lightbox scripts.
    http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/resources/57-free-image-gallery-slideshow-and-lightbox-solut ions/
Or, you can use a Web Gallery Creation software like JAlbum which does most of the work for you.

  • Newbie question - iweb into "iphoto" site?

I am just opening iweb for the first time on my new macbook. I really like some of the things that appear to be possible with it.
However, for a number of years now I have been keeping a collection of photos tracking the birth and growth of my son for the benefit of far away friends and relatives. I have built it though iPhoto and my .mac homepage space.
I have a beautiful new daughter for whom I want to do the same, but iPhoto no longer allows that. My question then is - can I post "iweb pages" into my exisiting .mac site without destroying all the other photos that I have collected and posted over the years.

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Apnewbie is right.... your Homepages created with previous versions of iPhoto are indeed safe. They are not in any danger of being overwritten by iWeb, as far as we've all been led to believe so far. But iWeb is definitely the way of the future in terms of how Apple wants us to think of it...as you mention, the easy Homepage function is no longer available in iPhoto 6. Instead of Homepages, now Apple wants you to use iWeb to create your photo pages. You can do so using the iWeb icon in the bottom of the iPhoto window and selecting "Photo Page". This is the closest equivalent of the old Homepages function.
But iWeb is infinitely more functional and customizable than the old Homepages system. There is actually a "hidden" function for creating photo gallery pages easily, especially since it sounds like you already have your photos organized into albums in iPhoto. The process is detailed here in this .Mac blog entry...
    http://www.mac.com/web/en/Tips/013C4180-4787-4847-BAAB-319222AFC652.html
iWeb has a little bit of a learning curve, but I think once you get the hang of using it, you will not miss the old Homepages function. Of course, if you run into any showstoppers, please don't hesitate to post your questions here in this forum....It's filled with lots of helpful people eager to lend you a hand.

  • No-go on photo-editing and positioning of a hyperlink in IWeb template -

Dear forum. I am currently building a little site on I Web - but have had some difficulties regarding - editing of pictures and the use of Hyperlinks in text.
    1) I have made the specific page on a template called :My photos. When I have pulled pictures from I Photo to the page I cant edit them by using the ADJUST button - it is like the picture editing is locked?
    2) Using the same template (My Photos) I can not make - words or text to a Hyper link ?
The very top-part of this page-template does allow me to edit a picture and or make a Hyperlink - it is when I get beyond the headlines and main picture.
How can I get by these no-go things ?
    Best regards J. Fohrmann

iWeb has no HTML you can edit.
All code is in xml format and stored in theme resources in the iWeb application.
You can open these resouces and edit the xml code in any Plaintext/HTML editor.

  • The hyperlink for iweb is not working anymore?

I have a web site built with iweb. It was not useful til few weeks ago when we try to revive and publish it, but ho surprise I went to apple store to make an appointment to remember the way to use it. I was told that that @me wont exist anymore but that I will be able to continue to work with iweb and publish with some other company. Well, I started to work again with iweb, and when I finish I try to hyperlink each page as needed but the program doesn't respond.

Info About iWeb Curtesy of Old Toad
As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.   On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.   All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.   There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

  • Hyperlink in iWeb

Is it possible to setup iWeb pages to open a hyperlink in a new window, while keeping the old one open?

    Craig,
Sorry about the complication. I thought that I'd made these simple, but obviously not simple enough So, I made some quick changes, I converted them to applications.
Here is the deal, go back to the download link:
    http://www.geocities.com/[email protected]/iWeb_utils/
re-download the zip file, unzip it and you find an .app file (instead of .scptd).
Then you need to configure the app to your environment:
    1. Control click on the app and select Show Package Contents
    2. Drill down to Contents/Resources, there, you find pages.txt file
    3. Edit pages.txt to add the pages that you want to convert the links, one page per line.
The format is: Site name/Page name.html
Keep in mind that when you Publish to a Folder, the structure is:
Published Folder --> Site folder (Site Name) --> page (page name.html)
You only need to enter Site Name/Page name.html
Once you configured the pages.txt, it's done. Double click to run it.

  • Cannot change color or underline hyperlinks in iWeb

    Hi,
I've seen others post regarding this same issue, but there is no way I have been able to rectify the issue. For some reason when I try to change the color with the Inspector of my iWeb hyperlinks (as well as try to underline them), the Inspector shows that I have changed the color and underlined it, and it looks like it should on the page as I'm working on it, but when I publish it the colors and underline are not there. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!
    C

    Hi,
I'm using Safari, I tried to find a place to change the colors on the page (using Safari) and I don't see where I would do that, but I'll keep trying.
I did try publishing to All to .Mac option but everytime I do that, I get a Publishing Error and so far I've tried deleting things to avoid that error (for example, it said that my photo albums were not publishing correctly, so I deleted them all, but now it's telling me my blog has a publishing error; this doesn't happen when I publish to .Mac, only when I publish All to .Mac. Make any sense? I'm completely confused) and the error keeps coming up. Ugh. Here's a link to my page, sorry it's boring, it's meant for the grandparents back home.
    http://web.mac.com/jaycherylbaker/Site/Welcome.html
Oh, and I'm also getting those text box lines on one or two of the pages. For some reason they weren't there a few days ago b/f I started messing with this. I wish I had left it all alone now instead of trying to get the hyperlinks in blue! LOL! Oh well!

  • Adding hyperlinks to iweb

i have a basic iweb site with multiple photo pages. now i'm adding a blog and a movie page. so, the nav bar has each photo page listed (lots) and i'd rather have one link that says "photos" that goes to a separate photo site, then people could navigate to each page.
remember in home page how there's a menu page? is there an equivalent in iweb? (now the address goes straight to the most recent photo page as opposed to giving a menu of all the photo pages.
i also want to add a link to my old homepage site, and going to insert hyperlink isn't working...
    thanks!

    Amy:
Yes you can do that. Create a Photo page, use the blank layout if you'd like, and add text links to the various other photo pages you want to link to. In those other photo pages select the Inspector option to not include that page in the nav bar. I'd done that with my Waassup! page in my Toad Hall site. Just click on the Waassup! button.
