Portfolio not printing in alphabetic order

I first posted this in the printing forum but did not get a response. Perhaps someone here can provide some guidance?
I have a binder full of perhaps 50 pdfs that I want to assemble into a portfolio to ease printing. It seems the portfolio feature is primarily targeted to on-screen, not print, but it should print in alpha order from what I read. The problem is that is does not, at least not consistently. We need to print 10-15 copies of the binder each week, and the individual pdfs are frequently updated. Ideally I would like to send the portfolio to the printer hand get all my copies without the need for manual collation or assembly (other than placing the docs in the actual binder).
In experimenting I have added to the beginning of my document names numbers (like 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0 etc.) which should sort alphabetically, and in the print dialog I can preview the order and it is correct. The dialog that shows print progress shows the documents printing in the correct order, but on the printer they are not in the correct order. I have tried several printers with the same result.
My theory is that a portfolio, at print time, is still just a collection of pdfs sent individually so depending on the doc length, traffic on the network, status of the network printer etc. they will not necessarily print as one continuous document. Does that make sense?
What alternatives might I have? I have looked briefly at doing a book in InDesign but that does not seem to be the best solution ether (each of the pdfs are maintained and used separately and I do not want to tie them up in one indd file).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can do a Multi-Level sort with the Reorganize Panel (Table > Show Reorganize Panel)
Let's say you begin here:
Opening the Reorganize Panel, first choose to sort by whichever is your top level column, then click the "+" button and add a second level column to sort. Like this:

If you have been using the mac.com Apple ID to make iTunes purchases recently, then there should be no issues continuing to use it with the new iPhone. I would abandon the new ID as you will never get Apple to merge the two IDs. I have had a mac.com ID for years and continue to use it with my iPhone 4S.
Tell us the issues that you encounter trying to set up the iPhone with the mac.com account.

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there.
Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache. Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

Items not appearing in alphabetical order

Hi folks,
When a user here clicks on File - Open, her items do not appear in alphabetical order. She has to right click - Arrange By - Name.
However its in alphabetical order on mine.
Any idea how I can set hers to alphabetical order all the time?

In the File open dialog box you can change the order the files are listed. I frequently use Date Modified so I can see the ones I most often use at the top. You change the order the files are listed the same way you do in Finder (on a Mac) and in Windows Explorer on a PC.

TS4083 My mailboxes do not appear in alphabetical order in the mailbox view pane in Mac Mail??

My mailbox list in the mailbox view pane does not appear in alphabetical order. (Mac Mail iCloud account). This is on my iMac running Lion 10.7.4. Interesting though, the mailboxes are alphabetically sorted in my laptop and iPhone which are both also synced to my apple account. I'm baffled???

Hi Graham,
Getting the alphabetical sort of your songs is easy. If you upgraded to the new iTunes all you would do is view your music and go to the List view. That option is on the right hand side underneath the search bar. Once you have change to that view, just click on the Name view to organize by name.

Chris, The sequence number is the first column of numbers, to the left of the Name column. It always goes 1, 2,3 etc. It is not the same as the Track Number, which has its own column.
As a precaution before burning, make sure that Shuffle is tunred off, and that you right-click the playlist name and choose 'Copy to Play Order" (although technically they should not affect the burn).

For the BI 7.0 Template, when selecting attribute of an employee,
1. For Attributes of an employee is not appearing in alphabetical Order,where in 3.5 version they did. Is there anyway to change the order?
2. Increase the number of attribute on a page, as the page needs to
refresh each time you scroll down. Like a full list that does not scroll down

Multiple files do not open in alphabetical order in Photoshop CS4

When I open multiple files at once in Photoshop, they never open in alphabetical order. The order is completely unpredictable. As far as I know - it's not an issue of Photoshop, cause when using Bridge to open files, they open in correct order.

It's a weirdo Finder, ummm, peculiarity, that when you select things in icon or list view alphanumeric order is not preserved. The only way to copy or open or play a QuickLook slideshow and have the correct order used is to do it from Column view. This oddity has been around for quite awhile and still isn't fixed, as of 10.5.7--so I rather expect it isn't going to be fixed any time soon.

Since installation of 32.0, my contact list does not show in alphabetic order. Appears to be in date, then alpha by name. Why?

Currently running Version 32.0. Since this was installed, my Contact List is not displayed in alphabetical sequence. Instead the contact seem to be displayed by Activity date and/or time, then by name sequence. Example, I had a 25 contact list in jumbled sequence, when I changed a piece of dat and found the changed contact was now at the top of the list! I changed a contact which should appear above this on and it also went to the top of the list. In this manner, I got the entire list in order. I then saw an error on one and corrected that contact data. That then went to the top of the list!
If I can provide any other information, please let me know.

May I suggest reverting to a previous version and adopting a more conservative upgrades approach?
In Windows Thunderbird updates are automatic by default. To avoid similar situations in the future, you could change that and decide to have a more conservative approach to upgrades.

Address book - addresses will not stay in alphabetical order.

Some users are commenting that the addresses offered by auto-completion are now (since TB31) in an unexpected order, possibly because its search/filter criteria have changed. It used to look only at the start of names and addresses and now, I believe, looks for any substring, thus yielding a different ordering.
Over and above that, if Thunderbird isn't remembering settings between sessions, then I have to ask if you're using any tools such as CCleaner, which have a nasty habit of deleting Thunderbird configuration files. If so, set them to omit Thunderbird's profile

New field is not printed in Purchase Order (PO)

I have added a new field in PO's Print Layout Designer (PLD). For example, I add a field called "Part Number" between "#" and "Description" fields. But when I print the PO, only "#" and "Description" fields are printed. The new "Part Number" field is ignored. I think there must be some sort of link between the new "Part Number" field in PLD and the "Item No." in the PO. This is the thing I missed. Can anybody give me a clue?

i think u missed to check the propery of perticular field which u have inserted. You please check the relate to and link to property of that field if there is any link, pl remove it. cause the linked field does not get value from db. so the field is not displayed. or check it the check box of visible is checked.

Smart playlists are not in alphabetical order on iOS 5.1 devices

One of the most frustrating things for me about iTunes Match is the fact that the smart playlists in iTunes (version 10.6) do not sync in alphabetical order on my iPad/iPhone running iOS 5.1.
Even though I click on the Name column and the songs in iTunes appear in alphabetical order, the songs appear in a random order on the iPad. I spent hours trying to fix this by turning iTunes Match off on my iPad, turning it on etc all to no avail. I created new smart playlists thinking that maybe the original smart playlists were corrupted in some way by the upgrade to the latest version of iTunes. This did not work either.
Then, I had an idea. I created a new playlist (not a smart one), called it Test Alpha, copied the songs from the smart playlist into it and waited for my iPad to update.
Voila! The songs in this new, non-smart playlist are in alphabetical order.
I do hope that this problem is fixed. It is a pain to do this for the 15 odd smart playlist I have. Hope this helps someone else.

No. And the problem persists in iOS 6 with the latest version of iTunes.
For three weeks, I had been talking on and off with a techie in Singapore. She got me to run all these test, send screen shots etc..
In the end, I was told that the engineers said 'that is how it's supposed to be'. Well, thank you very much. No help at all. No further discussion about the issue ensued.
Apple's arrogance will soon be the cause of its share price collapsing. My solution? I have not renewed my subscription to iTunes Match.

They show up fine and sorted in iTunes.
