images without using a timeline...
I have all the thumbnail images (sized) in a folder called
"images"and have a basic
layout I'd like the thumbnails to revert to after they
slideout. Any help on this would
be greatly appreciated.

I tried setting up a table. In my table I put
Thumb | Picture | Details in one row
then I put the thumbnails, pictures, details in their own column.
I clicked insert dataset under the spry palette. I chose the html page that I made that table in above that I mentioned. This is what it says in that dialog box/window: No selectable elements found. Make sure you've assigned IDs to the elements you want to select.
As far as I know, each image has an ID. The text under Details has an ID & I selected each column to have it's own ID. What is wrong here??

Portfolio: Thumbnail gallery with the full size image appearing on a darkened opacity layer?

I'm creating my photography website, and so far, my portfolio looks like this:
but I want the images to be buttons. I know how to re-load them as buttons, but then I'm stuck... I want for the full size version of each image to appear on the screen, with the background greyed out, like this quickly photoshopped version:
I've seen it done, but I just can't figure out how... I even downloaded a free template that had this, trying to replace the stock images with mine, but that didn't work either...

Use the 'Lightbox' widget to achieve this effect.
Or if you used another slideshow widget, there should be a Lightbox button you can mark to change to this type of view.
Double click the outside area when you change to Lightbox view (a dark box will appear around your image) to change the opacity of the background.

Next and previous button in swf

I have a parent file that has a scroll box with thumbnails of
peoples pictures, when the thumbnail is clicked their portfolio
loads into the parent swf externally and is directed to load in a
specific spot on the page. Inside the parent of portfolio
thumbnails i want to create two buttons, one that is for next
portfolio or previous portfolio. When i create these buttons in the
parent swf they do not show on testing the movie. I just want
people to be able to click on the persons portfolio to view it then
rather than going back to the thumbnails movie clip page, just
click to go to the next persons or previous persons portfolio.

Four GoLive 7 questions

A few GoLIve questions saved up. Using GL 7 on a Mac.
1. JPEGs IN TRASH
No idea how I got 150 or so JPEG files in the Mac Trash. Maybe I did it for some reason and forgot.
These files are also in my site window and work properly within GL. Is there any chance that somehow (Mac voodoo?) the files that are in the site window and that are also in the Trash will be deleted if I empty the Mac Trash?
2. BEST ROUTE FROM InDESIGN TO GL?
I will create a header component in ID. I will want to use it in two sizes in GL as a component. Is it best to create it in two sizes in ID? Or can I keep the original version in GL and also in GL dupe it and resize it as a second version with a different name?
Also, what's the best way to get this file from ID into GL? I can use the "Package for GoLive" option. But I think I was once advised, just drag the file into GL in the "InDesign Packages" folder or in the "Components" folder?
3. BEST WAY TO HAVE SAME 10 LINKS ON 10 PAGES?
I have a number of pages with portfolio thumbnails. The last cell on each page lists the 10 related thumbnails pages. I can go through and manually select each title and link it to the proper page. This means about 100-150 such manual links and hours of tedium. Is there an easier more efficient way? Can I create a pop-up, for example, and dupe it for each page?
4. CAN I DOUBLE LINK AN IMAGE?
On a typical thumbnails page, I have a table with 16 cells. Into some of the cells I have dragged a thumbnail which is sized properly and looks great. So far no problem.
I also have pages with the thumbnails shown larger for viewers who want a clearer larger image. Can I select the thumbnail and link it to the larger image? (I was about to do that and thought it might delete the linkage to the original I had dragged in to the cell.)
I did try the hot-spot or image-map approach, but it would not permit me to select an image, only a row or column of cells.

Well I tried it and it broke the existing link. Back to square one. Let me restate the problem.
I have a 120-pxl wide thumbnail image on one page in a cell. I had put it in the cell by selecting the cell and dragging the thumbnail image name from within the site window. Perfect. Everything was the right size. In Layout, in Preview, in a Browser, perfect. No problem. Gave it a 1-pt border. Looks just as I want it to look.
I now want to link that 120-pxl thumbnail to a larger 400-pxl size version of that image which I have already placed on another page.
So to do this I select the thumbnail and now link it to the larger one. And the original link breaks.
Conceivably I might be able to make each cell containing a thumbnail taller and list under it the file name for the larger one and link that text. That has three problems:(1) it will take forever and (2) it will look ugly. (3) To do it I have to increase the space betwen cells which opens the space horizontally, which I don't want, as well as vertically, which I do. And (4) I have no idea if I can insert such a small text box in such a small space.
So I am open to suggestion.
I have one idea. Instead of linking the thumbnail image to the larger image, maybe I can link the cell that contains the thumbnail to the larger image. (I assume Pres-Elect Obama is also seeking alternate solutions to alternate solutions so I don't feel lonely and hopeless. Yet.)

PrettyPhoto JQuery Widget coding?

Hi I have a website I am designing above is the thumbnail, in the middle of the thumbnail I have it linked to PrettyPhoto JQuery Widget with name of image floating on the top of the slideshow, and I am wanting to do this also with the bottom "view details" grey box, but would like some help please with the coding! Can I create a portfolio slideshow using custom thumbnails?

Hi. After searching the forums and watching several Lynda tutorials, I can't seem find an answer to my specific question. I'm creating a new portfolio website for myself and for the actual portfolio page, I went ahead and created custom thumbnails for each of the pieces I want to display and gave them all the same rollover state (see the screen capture image below of how I'd like them to look when hovered over).
I was expecting to be able to use them as a trigger to get a pop-up slideshow, but it appears the only way to do so in Muse is by using one of the pre-existing widgets. I know you can customize the widgets, but I don't see any way I can use the custom thumbnails I already created. Am I overlooking something or can this simply not be done in Muse and I have to change my thumbnail layout to match what the widgets allow?
And for a secondary question, my portfolio images are all different sizes (depending on the type of design, of course). Do any of the widgets in Muse have the ability to change their size and shape based on the image? Or do I have to make all of the images fit into the same size window?

sebrame Thanks for pointing out the compsition widget! I was able to make the gallery with it, without moving my project to dreamweaver! I don't know about your slideshow widget, but for me it doesn't let me to make the triggers different sizes. If you resize one thumbnail, it will resize all of them at the same time. :/

RimVai Yeah, last week I actually made it with the composition widget - which was truly more time consuming than the slideshow > lightbox widget. But there're actually some little presets making it just a bit less hard with compositions. (You just have to be extra careful when adding the images.)
You may know these already, but I write them here in case someone who doesn't know happens to read this thread.
You don't need to add all 200 thumbnails one by one. Just place the composition widget, and then use the "place" tool to add all your images. Click the very first thumbnail box with the place tool: Muse will automatically add all 200 pictures into separate 200 thumbnails that you'll then be able to rezise and move around. The order of the pictures (without broking the link between the lightbox picture and the thumbnail) can be changed after adding the lighbox pictures, by moving the thumbnail object to front or behind within the widget.
While adding the lightbox image, make 100% sure that you are in the lighbox page of the very first thumbnail, then use the "place" tool again and click the box that should be holding the content of the first thumbnail. It will again place all 200 pictures into the separate lighbox "pages" or whatever they are called. If you were in the box of the first thumbnail, the pictures will now be in order, and linked to their correct thumbnails.
I agree, the composition is much more inconvinient to use than the slideshow widget, but in my case I really needed different size thumbnails for my gallery. So for me it was worth the work, I guess. The best thing Muse developer team could do with this, would be to enable the different size thumbnails with slideshow widget as well, but before that happens this was the best option for me.

My thumbnails appear as negatives in Portfolio

Hi,
I have about 15 images whose thumbnails appear as image negatives when I create a PDF Portfolio (see image below). They are either very blue looking or inverted...the colors are all wrong. They are saved as RGB color, though I didn't imagine that would matter since pdfs are good for both print and monitor. I searched through the Preferences, but found nothing other than Working Color Spaces, which I set to sRGB.
Can anyone tell me what's going on?

3D file not shown in PDF portfolio

I created a 3D pdf, and the model shows up fine in this file. But when I insert this pdf into a PDF portfolio (using Acrobat X), it resuls in a blank file with nothing visible?! How can I fix this problem?

In Acrobat X there is only one way to create a 3D PDF file, so without know your workflow it's difficult to comment.
The cards in Acrobat X PDF Portfolios never show activated Rich Media content, only the poster image for the annotation. If there's no poster image, you will just see a blank space - the thing you see on the card isn't the PDF at all, it's an image snapshot rendered from the PDF, as is used to display the page thumbnails on the left sidebar.
In Acrobat X, double-clicking on a card in layout mode will open the preview mode of the same card (bigger card against a black background, but still showing just the snapshot image). Double-clicking on that preview will finally open the file, or you can right-click on the card in layout mode to get there a bit faster. With the standard Acrobat X Portfolio layouts, interactive content, forms, etc. will only activate when the PDF is running in its own window, and not when it's being displayed as part of the Portfolio. In Acrobat 9, we didn't have preview mode, so double-clicking on a card in layout mode did actually open the file and activate the content straight away, in the same window (with the black Portfolio toolbar along the top to take you back to layout mode). In Acrobat X it doesn't.

Pdf portfolio document preview issue

I'm creating a pdf portfolio in Acrobat XI and have run into a problem when using grid view. When viewing the pdf portfolio on my 15" laptop, the document preview is cropped in both the thumbnail and larger preview. But when I view the pdf portfolio on a larger monitor, both previews are fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue? Thanks so much for reading.

PDF Portfolio Cover - how to change this in Acrobat Pro 9?

in Windows folders PDF Portfolio files are displayed as follows:
1. Using common PDF icons (bad, because we cannot distinguish PDF from PDF Portfolio), or
2. If the folder allows larger pictures, then we see the standards Porfolio cover showing a "book",
the note about the needed version and a download button.
Question: is there a way to replace the standard PDF Portfolio cover (and symbol) by an user defined one?
Such information like needed version and the download button aren't useful for people which
already use correct versions. Notes like these should only appear on computer which cannot
corretly display the respective files.
For a meningfull overview I would like to display own contents. Is this possible?

Ignore the previous posts.
The thing you're looking at is called the Cover Sheet - it's the page that users will see if their software cannot support Portfolios (or on Windows Explorer thumbnails), and is NOT part of the Portfolio navigator. In fact, the Cover Sheet is the "parent" to the entire document, and is nothing more than a one-page PDF file.
To view the Cover Sheet in Acrobat, choose View -> Portfolio -> Cover Sheet
You cannot delete it (as it's the only page in your document!) but you can edit it. For example, you could create your own design, and use the page thumbnails right-click "replace page" tool to swap in your new page. Be careful about the web link though, it needs to stay there to help your non-Adobe recipients.
If you want to change every Cover Sheet on every Portfolio you make, replace the default "coversheet.pdf" file within the Acrobat install (there will be a series of them in subfolders, one for each installed language):
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\DocSettings\CombineFiles
We do it all the time to add company branding to Portfolios created in enterprise installs.

How do I make a thumbnail that has a gallery inside? And how can I make this gallery have embeded videos from vimeo + Images?

I'm pretty new to Muse so I don't know a lot about it, but I researched a lot and didn't find an answer to this question.
I'm trying to make a portfolio website. The website will be a 12 thumbnails. But each thumbnail is one project, not an image.
When you click one of the thumbnails, I want it to be a lightbox that will show embeded videos from vimeo mixed with images.
Ex: A coca-cola projet.
Main page has a thumbnail of a coca cola image. When you click on it, it opens a lightbox with a coca-cola film, when i click to the right arrow, it shows a cocacola poster, then another poster, then another video. (but they are all part of this gallery, that is inside the thumbnail.
Can you guys help me?

I don't understand why my thumbnails don't work.
I dragged a composition lightbox inside another one. But I still have the first lightbox there and can't delete.
When I try my wabsite i see this:
But then I click the thumbnail and I see this:
And when I click one of those 3 I see this:
Like it is making a double lightbox.
but it doesn't show the images, it's like the first lightbox is on top of the second one.
How I deal with this? =/

New to PDF Portfolios - Need to Link between PDF, Word & Excel Docs

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm new to the Adobe X Pro & making portfolios. I have figured out how to create a portfolio. My portfolio has a main pdf document and several folders with pdf, word & excel files in them. What I’m trying to do is link from my main document (pdf file) to the other files (word, excel & pdf) that I’ve added to the portfolio. I’ve tried linking to a pdf file and a thumbnail of the word doc (because I did find that I can’t link to the actual word or excel doc). When I create & test the link (for both the pdf file & the thumbnail of the word doc) it is there; I can click the link I created and it will go to the word doc. If I close the portfolio & reopen it the link to the pdf file is there, but the link to the word doc isn’t there anymore. That link now goes to the main pdf file and not the word thumbnail or even the folder where the word doc is saved. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

As Dave has noted you can not do this.
Acrobat/Reader would need to know what program to use to read the data in the document and since there can be many different programs that could read your document, Acrobat/Reader would need to know exactly which program to use on one's system. You might only have MS Office but others might have both MS Office and OpenOffice.org and might prefer to use OpenOffice.org unless there is a feature that is only available to MS Office. Yes it is possible to create a program that can be configured to use specific helper programs, but it can have a real impact on system efficiency. It is easy enough to download or extract the non-PDF document and then use your program of choice. Just look to MS Outlook for a program that can not always open an attachment, especially PDF files.

How can I change the order of thumbnails so it affects the order in the lightbox when using the composition widget - lightbox display?

Hi, I'm making my portfolio in Muse, and I'm using the composition widget - lightbox display. I imported all the images and then I wanted to reorganize the thumbnails - and when I do that, the order in the lightbox doesn't change and so it's not the same as the order of the thumbnails (after rearranging them). Please let me know if there is a way to fix this quickly, or do I have to do it all one more time

The order the items display in a composition widget is the front to back order of the items. You can rearrange the stacking order of the thumbnails/triggers using the Layers panel and/or the Object > Bring To Front, Send To Back, etc. menu items to adjust the order they're displayed during auto play or when clicking the next/previous buttons.

Is it possible for documents in a portfolio to keep their page/print setup, i.e.staples/punches etc?

I have to create training materials on a regular basis. These materials are generally folders with various forms, role plays cards and general reading. Also, each course demands a different mix of materials - I find my self spending days printing out each document and then arranging them.
Now I know using Acrobat Pro's portfolio feature would allow all the docs to be put together but will it also allow me to keep the staples, punches etc that are different for each doc in the folder????
Just combining all the docs will not work.

First if you open each of the components separately and turn on sidid bar you can drag and drop the Thumbnails in the sidbar in to exct order you need.
Then save the changed PDF.
Next open Acrobat XI and choose File Menu > Combine files into a single file, or create Portfolio
this will open a special window for either. You should then be able to place individula Pdfsin the order you want them to show up.
Combine files let you attach to originl PDF word, excel file, Graphic files not just PDF's
PortFolli only works with PDF's
in both you can drag items around to rearrange.
