Portfolio Welcome opens oddly

Hi folks,
Maybe someone can help as I have tried every setting I can find. Using Acrobat Pro 9.
I have it set for a Welcome Page and a full page fit doc with list of all included docs on the left. when it opens, you see the left half of the welcome page for maybe 5 or 10 seconds before it paints in the right side.
Anyway to fix this so the Welcome displays all at once?
Thanks.
~Bob

Bob are you sure to have the video card driver at the last release?  Normally an old driver is the cause of that problem of view.
Let me know.

Acrobat 9.4.2 Portfolio Welcome Page, Headers, Footers
I recently upgraded to Acrobat 9.4.2 and now cannot save welcome page, headers, footers in portfolios I create. Portfolios created in previous verisions of 9.X.X. properly display welcome page, headers, footers in 9.4.2. Anyone with ideas? Is there some setting I am missing?

Josh, thanks for responding. Following summarizes my workflow:
    - Files selected via Windows Explorer, "Combine supported files in Acrobat" option.
    -  Select PDF portfolio, Combine.
    -  After portfolio is saved, Acrobat opens in the Home Page view displaying thumbnails of the converted files and Edit Portfolio already selected.
    -  Select Welcome Page, Image and Text insert same.
    -  Select Header, Logo and Structured Text, insert same.
    -  When finished, select Done.
    -  Select Save Portfolio icon.
    -  Deselect Edit Portfolio.
    -  Close Acrobat.
    -  Open portfolio, either double-clicking portfolio file name or starting Acrobat and selecting Open, file name.
    - Acrobat opens portfolio in Home view. The Welcome Page icon is grayed out.
The above is my normal workflow; however, I observed that if after creating the portfolio's Welcome Page and Header and when exiting the program, if I receive the message "Do you want to save changes to the por tfolio before closing?", the Welcome Page and Headers are in fact saved. This is a very workable solution to the problem for me. There seems to be something going with saving via the icon. If for reason I do not receive the above message and the program exits, the Welcome Page and Headers are not saved.
My operating system is WIndows XP Pro, SP3. BTW, 9.4.2 works fine on my Windows 7 machine and another XP machine with 9.0. Thanks in advance for your offer to help, but the workaround described above works and lowers my frustrationlevel considerably.

  • Is there any wat to print attachments in a PDF Portfolio without opening each attachment individually?

We have a large PDF Portfolio with many attachments and would like to print those items all at once without opening every single attachment. I would think think that this is possible considering I took the files from outlook 2003 and you are able to print an email and its attachments in that program. If anyone knows how to do this, I would appreciate the help.

Portfolios only support the printing of PDF files (more specifically, PDF files whose security permissions allow printing). You can print all PDF files in a Portfolio without opening them all simply by opening the Portfolio and clicking on the print button in the Portfolio toolbar. If desired, you can also limit it to a selection of PDF files.
Unfortunately non-PDF files will need to be opened and printed individually from their respective apps.

  • When a portfolio is opened, can we load a document from a web page?

We have a number of pdfs that reside on a web site.
We are in the process of creating a portfolio for use in a different way and a number of these documents would be good additions to the portfolio.
We would prefer not to have to maintain these pdfs in multiples places (original web site  and the portfolio).
Is there a way with in a portfolio to load a pdf from a web site when the portfolio is opened?

  • PDF Portfolio will open in IE, but not in Firefox or Chrome

I have a PDF Portfolio linked on my site.  I can open it fine in IE (version 9), but it will not open in Firefox 21 or Chrome 27.  When I click on the link, I get the message "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later."  Even though I can open it fine in IE and I know I already have the correct version, I click on the link/button to download now.  It says it installs successfully, but I still am unable to open it in the two browsers.
    Any advice is appreciated!

Firefox (from version 19) and Chrome use their own PDF viewers; these may not be compatible with many standard PDF files.

    Hi Gary,

The portfolios can be made by both the versions 10 and 11.

  • Acrobat X Pro trial: can't see full set of tools when portfolio is open

Hello everyone; my first post in this forum.
Using the trial version of Acrobat 10 Pro, when I open the application I see the full set of tools and the Tool / Comment / Share panel -
However, once I've opened a portfolio, I only see a reduced set of tools -
I can't work out how to enable the full set of tools and panels when I'm in a portfolio. Does anyone know?
    Cheers,
    Sue.

    Thanks for your answer.
I guess this means that if I want to OCR a whole portfolio, or apply Bates numbering to it, I must start with the portfolio closed, choose the appropriate tool, and select the portfolio under "Add files."
However, I have the option to OCR or apply Bates numbers to one document within the portfolio when I have the doc open.

  • Help - Acrobat portfolios sometimes open wrong PDF

My organization has been using Adobe Acrobat 10 (10.1.4) to compile PDFs into PDF portfolios.  We have noticed that, if we open several PDFs from the same portfolio, one after the other, that Acrobat eventually starts opening incorrect PDFs (i.e., not the PDF that was selected).  Has anyone else noticed this problem and/or can offer a solution?
Our PCs run Windows 7 64-bit on new Dell PCs with 8 GB of DRAM.  We have noticed the problem of Acrobat opening the wrong PDF in a portfolio while using Acrobat 10.1.4, Acrobat 11.0.1 and Reader 11.0.1 to open and review PDF portfolios created with Acrobat 10.  We have noticed the problem on several different PCs and with several different PDF portfolios ranging in size from 5 to 9 megabytes.  The problem appears to happen fairly randomly, but only after opening several different PDFs from the same portfolio in fairly rapid succession.
If I were to hazard a guess, it seems that Acrobat (and Reader) can get mixed up (i.e., memory corruption, possibly caused by a buffer overflow) if the hardware/software is stressed by trying to open too many PDFs in too rapid a succession.
Interestingly, Acrobat does not report a program error when it opens the incorrect PDF.  Nevertheless, it seems to be a program bug.
A simple solution is to not abuse Adobe's software by opening PDFs in rapid succession while reviewing a portfolio.  However, you have not met my boss.  Any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

We are having the exact same issue with Adobe Acrobat 11. I don't think that opening and moving through the portfolio pdfs rapidly is the issue because the error occurs when we open one pdf, go back to the menu and then open another one. It simply opens the last opened pdf rather than the file I select. It happens totally randomly, as you stated. Only one folder in a particular portfolio (which had 5 other folders) had the issue. We had to rebuild the portfolio in Acrobat 9 in order to circumvent the problem and get the portfolio out the door. If you have resolved this or anyone has a resolution please post it. We have filed a bug report and heard nothing back.

  • Adding Flash to PDF Portfolio Welcome Page

I have been having trouble adding my flash file to the welcome page in my PDF portfolios. I have hunted through the documentation but I have not found any specific trouble shooting for this issue. The docs say you can add an swf or flv but nothing about formats, settings or configurations that it my or may not accept.
What I have done so far is export a standard .swf formatted for Flash 10 at 600px square and try to place it in the welcome page. When I try and drag it I get the "no" symbol (circle with a line through it) and if I use the choose file dialog it just shows up as nothing. I could really use some help here.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ben Ross

Problem persists. Does anybody have information on getting flash files to play nice with acrobat? Also having some trouble with the contents on the portfolio not displaying. At all. it ends up looking like an empty 20mb file. any help is welcome.
    Thanks.

  • System Preferences Bluetooth WONT OPEN/ ODD MESSAGE.

    Hi,
I just purchased a new wireless keyboard for my iBook G4. When I go into system preferences and click "Keyboard & Mouse" a message appears that says, " Preferences Error- Could not load Keyboard & Mouse." So I tried to then go into bluetooth and got the same message. Any thoughts?

    HI,
*"When I go into System Profile> Hardware> Bluetooth- it says "No information found."*
That means there was never a Bluetooth Module ever installed.
What you can do is get a D-Link Bluetooth Adapter. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34
Also available at Amazon. Very inexpensive and uses a USB port. I have been using one on my iBookG4 for years.

  • How do I make a Portfolio open in Details view ?

Anytime I create a PDF Portfolio it opens in LAYOUT View in both READER and
Acrobat (it was created in Acrobat Acrobat 9 Pro).
How can I program the Portfolio open in DETAILS View when a user opens the file in Reader ? (or Acrobat for that matter)

When opening the JS Console by pressing Ctrl-K,  the PREFERENCES menu opens.
There is an option in this dialog on the left for JavaScript - but this
isn't necessarily a JS Console. Am I in the right place ?
With JavaScript selected on the left hand of the Preferences dialog, on the
right are JavaScript options, one being Enable Interactive Console - so I
selected that. There is no TRASHCAN icon as you instruct.
I believe where you want me to go is Control-J, is that correct ?
Assuming it is the JavaScript Debugger (Control-J_, I click trashcan, then I
am in INSPECT: Local Variables, VIEW: Console. I enter the text as
    instructed:
    this.collection.initialView = "Details";
Now what ? Clicking ENTER just gives me a carriage return in the Console
    window.
    Please advise.

  • In Acrobat 11 portfolio does not open to first document in file.

When opening portfolio it opens with focus on second to last document in portfolio not the first.  I've reorder and saved, reordered and saved to new file with no change any other change is saved. How does acrobat decide which file to display when it opens the portfolio?

This problem has plagued our use of PDF Portfolios for years.
No matter what you do with an existing Portfolio, the Portfolio insists on opening to the file with the name which sorts first alphabetically. Setting the Order fields correctly does not change this behavior.
There are only two ways I can ever get a PDF Portfolio to open to the first document in the collection:
Name the individual files so that they sort as desired by their alphanumeric names. Obviously, this is a crude workaround.
Build the Portfolio from scratch using the Combine Multiple PDFs... dialog. That dialog lets you arrange the various PDFs using the Move Up and Move Down buttons. The problem with this is, that dialog is not available when working in an existing Portfolio. If you add and/or delete files to the existing Portfolio and save it, it will always open to the file with the name which sorts first alphabetically, despite the files being numbered and ordered correctly by the Order field (or any other field you create an tell it to sort by). The files do sort according to the specified field, but the Portfolio refuses to open to the first file in the sort order. It insists on opening to the file which would be first if they were sorted alphabetically by filename.
Here's the recurring problem: I have to re-publish new versions of multiple Portfolios every year. It takes much tedium and time to setup a Portfolio from scratch. For example, including the needed image and text boxes in the Header has to be re-done; there (stupidly) is no provision for copying those objects from an existing Portfolio into a new one. So one expects to be able to simply open an existing Portfolio, delete its documents, import new documents, and save it. But whenever I do this, the Portfolio reverts to opening to whichever document would be first if sorted alphabetically by filename. This happens no matter how I add the new documents. If I add them one at a time, the Order field gets set correctly. But that has no bearing on the unwanted behavior of displaying first some document other than the first one in the collection.
So every year, I end up searching this forum looking for a fix, finding none, and resorting to awkward meaningless prefixes (01_, 02_, etc) on the file names. Very inelegant to the recipients.

  • Need help: Portfolio does not open in my browsers

I view a portfolio that opens in IE (v.10.0) but the same portfolio does not open in Chrome (v.42.0) or Firefox (v.37.0.1)-- instead only the Cover Sheet appears. I have Adobe Reader 11.0 and Acrobat XI Pro installed. Are there any special browser settings that I need to set? Thank you.

Hi Steve, Thank you for your reply. I have Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Technical Communication Suite 5 installed. But based on your reply, I found these instructions for enabling the Adobe Acrobat or Reader PDF viewer for Firefox and Chrome. Here is the link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
The instructions work, so I am marking this question as resolved.
