Porting a J2ME app to iPod?

We have developed J2ME based cell phone applications for mobile learning and test preparation (see http://www.applimobile.com/). We would like to port these applications to iPod. Does anyone have a clue on how to go about doing it?
Thanks much for help

Yes I have a clue: start all over.
Sadly, the ipod does not support any java, so also nu J2me.

  • 3rd party apps on iPod Touch starting February - Now I'll get one

Nice moves Apple. (3rd party apps on iPod Touch and iPhone + DRM-tunes for .99$)
    http://www.apple.com/startpage/
Now you're finally convincing me to get a Touch. By February.
Thanks for listening to popular demand.

I hope they can make the date. They have a big task in front of them especially for the iPhone as a bug or virus can take down the Cell system if the proper safe guards are not in place.
I bet Apple has been working on this even before they launched the iPhone, but did not want to tell anyone as the development cycle was going to be so long.
Apple has always prided themselves on having the best platforms for porting applications. Going away from this is unlikely, but the iPhone and iPod touch took them in a direction that is more complicated than a PC on the internet.
For those that have wanted the iPod touch or Iphone to have more PDA features, I think this move by Apple will clearly put them into that market. The only issue I see is getting directly into the memory to store documents to support the applications. You used to be able to do on older iPods.
Anyway, great job Apple you have restored my faith in you following the right path.

  • Remote App on IPod Touch Connect to ITunes on Win7

Is anyone having a problem making the Remote APP on ipod touch connect to ITunes on Win7 over WiFi? Itunes sees it alright, asks for a Passcode which the ipod supplies, considers it and then says it is invalid. I'm open to suggestions.

Yes it is, I click on the "Remote" button, type the passcode into iTunes, it thinks for a while then comes back and says "invalid passcode". The two are communicating or iTunes wouldn't show the "Remote" button or display the passcode entry window.

  • How do I transfer apps from iPod to iPad 2?

how do I transfer apps from iPod to iPad 2?

If you want app data to transfer you have to restore the iPod from the backup of the iPod. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup. Also see:

  • Porting an iPhone app to a desktop app

I am new to objective C and Cocoa, and yet have managed to develop a pretty complex app for the iPhone.
Being lazy, I would like to also run this on a Mac Pro for instance, or other Mac computers/laptops.
Is there a simple way for me to "port" my iPhone app to the desktop?
    Thanks.

Well its not necessarily easy, and you also have to think about rewriting your views for Mac OS X, and not the iPhone, and also keep in mind you have to have a completely different interface in Mac OS X compared to the iPhone. Note that something complex in a mobile device might not be complex at all on a full desktop environment. But considering you have already created the application for the iPhone, you know where your headed and have your objects planned out, and also saying that you can program Mac in the same coding language, it should be easier than scratch right?

  • Can't Transfer App to iPod? iPod must have Installing Applications ON

If you can't transfer iTunes app to iPod or check the iTunes box for "Automatically Install New Apps", make sure your iPod has the setting for "Installing Applications" set to ON. (Settings --> General --> Restrictions --> Installing Applicatons == "ON").
I had wrongly assumed this item setting applied to installation of iPod Apps directly from the Internet, not through the PC. I was wrong. Others might need to know this as well.

The Restrictions applies to both direct download and syncing.

  • HT5622 My apps are not updating as I have no longer access to my eariler apple Id and now I am using a new apple Id which is allowing to download  apps but while updating those apps my iPod wants eariler apple Id password to update what should I do ?

My apps are not updating as I have no longer access to my eariler apple Id and now I am using a new apple Id which is allowing to download  apps but while updating those apps my iPod wants eariler apple Id password to update what should I do ?

    Hi Kanishk,
Those apps are forever tied to the Apple ID they were purchased under. You can either delete them and re-purchase them, or you can go to Manage your Apple ID and reset the password on the old Apple ID so you can use it to update your apps: Apple - My Apple ID
If you decide to continue to use them under the old ID password, I would suggest that when you reset that password, you change it to be the same password as the one you are currently using. That way when apps need to be updated you will only need to know one password and you won't have to be concerned with which Apple ID is displaying.
    Cheers,

  • How do i transfer the music and apps from ipod touch to iphone

how do i transfer the music and apps from ipod touch to iphone

If you sign in to your Apple ID then your apps will be visible by clicking the "purchased" tab at the bottom of the screen.
Music you've purchased from Apple will appear automatically if you sign in to your account. Other music you'll need to download from your PC assuming you're not subscribed to iTunes Match.

  • [jsr82] can a j2me app be a Bluetooth server and client role in parallel?

I want to make my j2me app register a special service channel and listen to it, meanwhile, I also want to start a client to connect to other handset which has the same services. In Bluetooth protocol side, this is obviously OK, but in J2me is this design possible? some people said that in jsr82, the Bluetooth device is exclusive for J2me app, app cannot be both server role and client role at the same time. Can anybody give me a definite answer?

No this design is not possible with JSR 82. Because when the device acts as a server it can't be used as a client as whenever you will run the client code the server mode will disappear.
But what maximum you can do is when you need the client to run close the server and switch into the client mode but I think you don't need this solution.

  • Itunes wont sync apps to ipod touch

I bought a second gen iPod touch last Christmas for my son, and loaded it up with the preschool apps from my iPhone with no problem. However, after the initial installation, I have not been able to get any apps to sync from iTunes to the iPod. The apps tab shows the "Sync apps" box checked, but the whole page is grayed out and won't let me select or deselect any apps. Now, it also will not transfer purchases I have made from the iPod back to iTunes. I am running the 3.1.3 version of the iPod software, and all of the apps are iPod and iPhone compatible. All restrictions on the iPod have been disabled. Any suggestions?

    Same problem here. See also
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11335706#11335706.
My iPod software is up to date, as is the mac OS (leopard), and I bought one new app (having checked its specs) and the app sync page in iTunes is grayed out. I tried deleting a couple of free apps -- a suggestion on another thread for a different problem -- no change. I tried deleting this app and re-downloading it.
I haven't tried buying an app on the iPod to see if it will transfer to iTunes; have only purchased on computer and attempted to sync. Music is fine.
    Ideas, anyone?
    thanks...

  • TS1702 Went to update apps on ipod touch IOS 4.2.1. I did a factory reset. Now I can't get most of my apps back because I can't download version 5.0. I paid for some of these apps.

Went to update apps on ipod touch IOS 4.2.1.  I did a factory reset and now I can't get most of my apps back & can't download version 5.0 which I need to get back some of my apps. I paid for some of these. I've tried my backup and it didn't put them back on.

If your iPod Touch is too old for iOS 5 or later... there is not much you can do.
When/if you get a later model iDevice you will be able to Download Past Purchases using the Original ID that made those Purchases. (providing they are still supported by the Developer)
