Porting a screensaver....how to?

Hi everyone. I have what is probably a futile question....... I had an absolutely beautiful screensaver a few years back...obviously as you've probably guessed by the subject line the screensaver in question has been not functional since Tiger. I am wondering if it is possible to port it to Leopard. I have zero experience in this field so any help would would be appreciated. On the surface i would think it would be a relatively simple process to someone who knows what they are doing, but i alas do not. I've tried contact the developer repeatedly to no avail. The saver is titled 'Blurry screen', or 'Screenie' i think. here is the link: http://mac.rbytes.net/cat/mac/screensavers/blurryscreen/# It's possible it was a PPC only saver...... any help would be appreciated. thanks!

A good find. I'm usually hesitant to recommend things like this because editing system files can cause a lot of problems if you're not aware of what you are doing but if you can find the instructions then you can try them
I'm sure you're aware that any updates or upgrades to the OS will likely require you to redo the edits. Also when editing system files it is always a very good idea to have a recent working backup. Doing a clone of the root drive before making any changes would be the best way to go. This way if something does go wrong you can boot off the clone, clone back and be up again.

to edit property list files normally is a common procedure. Either you do this in the GUI in a preferences pane if available or you can do this with the defaults command in a terminal or you can do this with the property list editor. Normally there is no problem to edit such a file and most of them you can trash if something unexpected happens and the system will create a new one with default settings. The only thing to keep in mind is the location where this plist file is stored. If you are working in /System/Library you should use both eyes and both brain hemispheres to avoid a fatal mistake, that's correct... ;-)

I Just purchased a 21.5 iMac and connected it to the Internet using a apple air port router.  How do I connect my windows PC to my air port router so I can transfer files.

It makes life easier to install the airport utility for windows.. which has a couple of different apps in it.. if you airport is new type then the utility is too old.. but is still valuable for Bonjour which provides network information for shared devices in the apple world to windows.. and a disk access agent..
It will also help the Apple computer access shared directory in the windows computer.. nowadays this is pretty easy.

  • I want to write onto port 3 based(using a buffer) on a pattern match trigger from port 2. How can I code this?

I have to check for a pattern match from port 2 and based on this trigger I have to write onto port 3(buffered) as fast as possible. So there needs to be a buffered O/P from port 3. How to code such that the pattern match trigger from port 2 triggers the trigger config.vi for port 3?

    Bheem,
Unfortunately, you can not share the start trigger with another operation when using the pattern match operation as a trigger. The only way to share a start trigger is if you are triggering on the rising or falling edge of a digital signal. This is a limitation of using the pattern match operation as a start trigger.

Yeah send it from your phone.
Your computer has no knowledge of your phones phone number, it is not a phone.

  • I have to send messages through UDP multicast and unicast from same port. In Labview I tried that it throws error. I heard it is possible by means of Datagram (UDP unicast and multicast) Port Sharing. How can it be achieved in Labview?

I have to send UDP multicast and Unicast messages to a remote port from a single source/local port. I tried by opening UDP unicast and multicast in the same port and got the expected error. I tried by opening a unicast connection and sending unicast messages. After that when multicast messages has to send I closed unicast and opened multicast in the same port. This is not throwing any error. But my requirenment is to comminicate with another application in C ++ which recieves this data, throwing an error of lost connectivity and both the applications are not abled to communicate properly.
In the other application with C++ this is implemented using port sharing. So how port sharing can be implemented in labview so that I can send both multicast and unicast messages from the same port?
    Thanks in advance

UDP is a sessionless protocol, meaning that anyone listening on the specified port CAN receive the data. CAN because as you noted there is no guarantee in the protocol that it will be received. And if you send the data not to a specific address but a multicast address not only one computer can receive it but in fact every computer on the same subnet listening to that multicast address and depending on the TTL of the packet also computers in neighbouring subnets, although that last one is not a very reliable operation since routers can be configured to drop multicast packages anyhow despite of a different TTL saying otherwise.
Accordingly there is no real way to make sure that a receiving UDP port is not already in use, since you don't build up a connection. UDP is more or less analogous to shouting your messages through a megaphone, and anyone listening on the right frequency (port) can hear it. You do bind the sender socket to a specific port number but that makes little difference.

  • Dent in side of MB Pro means ports are unusable - how much to repair?

    Hello,
Whilst inside a suitcase my Macbook Pro has suffered a dent to its lower left hand side, so that one of the USB ports, SD card slot and headphone slot are unusable as the casing has come out of place. I have tried to get compensation from the airline but surprise surprise there are loopholes that mean they won't do it for me. If it was just a dent I'd leave it, but because it actually restricts my usage I'd like to get it repaired.
Does anyone know how much Apple charge to repair the lower casing of a Macbook Pro? For reference mine is a late-2011 13" model.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how much it would cost bringing it to the Apple store.

  • Examining block diagram- ports on VI- How do I determine which port is wired

Trying to figure out how a block diagram is wired with a a vi that has lots of ports.  Is there a way that I can identify where the wire goes on the vi?

As tst said, you can triple click to see the entire wire.  Some people don't wire properly, with wires going underneath objects.  If you look closely at the attached picture, you can see the highlited wire (the one surrounded by dash lines) goes to the top right corner of the object it is wire to.

  • Screensaver: how to choose pics to use

I don't want to use every picture I have in my albums. How do I pick the ones I want to use as screen saver slide show in Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2?

    Hi,
I am not sure that how are you trying to make the screensaver. Is it through the windows explorer? If yes, then it will be a little tedious to get all the images that you want. One easy way can be selecting them from the photowell and copying them all to a common place form where you can pick them all for being used as a screen saver. Please, let me know if you are fine with this way or we will try thinking about something else.
    Cheers!!

  • How to open port 443?, How to open port 443?

Hey, an online broking software wants connection to my mac. How can i open a special ssl port like 443,
i allrady did the routerconfiguration, how can i change the mac firewall?

    afromfrankfurt,
I came here for help on this subject and MAY have an idea why you are still having the problem after turning off the firewall on your Mac. Assuming your router works the same way mine does, you have to do something to create a path between the outside world and your Mac for traffic on port 443. I know there are ways to do this where the computer can dynamically do this but that is not something I have figured out at this point. The ONLY way I know to make it work is to make sure the Mac has the same IP address every time it uses that router and to tell the router to direct traffic coming in from the web to go to the address you have assigned your Mac.
Hopefully someone more knowldegable than I am will speak up and say how to do it dynamically because, if this is a laptop, assigning it a fixed address on your network can create problems when you take it someplace else.
