Porting Out

I am a little disappointed today, because I have to leave Verizon. I have a line that has been out of a contract for a year, I just cancelled one line and have 2 remaining. The line that is eligible for an upgrade is ready for it's first smartphone and I feel that the prices are just too high for 2 lines with smartphones. I talked to 3 people today, 1 in chat, one in customer service and one in loyalty. I just wanted to give Verizon a chance to keep my service because I have been with them since 2006. The best they could do as far as a plan goes would  save me 6.00 per month. I would have almost accepted the offer if they would have waived my activation fee to renew or discounted the phone a bit. However all three reps said they could not. If not even customer loyalty can waive an activation fee to keep a customer, then what is the purpose of that department? The person in chat could only give me repeated copy and paste comments about how reliable the service is. Unfortunately I had to give her a zero on the survey. I guess I am mostly just disappointed that none of them really cared that I am porting out. I just needed to vent a bit. My new carrier awaits with open arms, free activation, and a plan that is a bit less per month.

Before you jump up and down, many people that post here have stated the verizon reps have told them one thing and when they received their bill they found out it was nothing but a lie. You see its easy to tell you one thing to appease you. By the time you receive your bill its past the 14 days guarantee. I hope it works out for you.
Good Luck

  • Swap number by porting out and then back to Verizon

I currently have 4 lines with Verizon on a Family Shared Plan. Line A has a basic phone and is my primary number where I got all the calls, line B and C belong to my family members, and line D is a new line I took over recently under assumption of liability because it has unlimited data feature.
Now, what I really want is to swap my primary number from Line A to Lind D, so that I can use my primary number with the line that has unlimited data. I don’t care if I lose the current number on Line D. However, according to multiple verizon reps, you can not swap phone numbers freely.
It seems that the only way to accomplish this is to first set up Line D as the primary line, then port out Line A to another carriier (for example Page Plus), then port it back in to overwrite the number on Line D. Can someone from Verizon confirm if this is the only way to get my primary number on Line D with the unlimited data? Does it even work? Any restrictions for porting back a number that used to be with Verizon?
By the way Line A is month to month now so I am not worried about ETF.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Dion, that doesn't solve his problem. He wants to keep the number that is currently on line A and move THAT number to his smartphone with unlimited data. That's the same situation I am in. I think the only way to do it is wait until the contract expires and then move the number to the desired phone. That's what I am going to do in January.
I appreciate Dion to take time and reply my post, but unfortunately he provided incorrect information. I have just done it and got what I wanted. Obviously, you CAN port your line to another company (say Pageplus) for free, thus canceling the line with Verizon. Then wait until the next billing cycle, and port that number back in to replace existing Verizon number, all for free. No change is made to the account calling plans, features, contract, etc, since it's a simple phone number change.
It took me 10 mins on the phone with Pageplus CS to port the number from Verizon to Pageplus, 3 days before the end of my billing cycle. Then I waited for 5 days, just to be sure that Verizon had release the number, and called Verizon to request the port in. The porting request was done in 5 mins with automated system, and the port went thru almost instantly. I reprogrammed the phone by dialing *228 and everything works fine. I logged on my Verizon immediately and my number has already been updated. Now I finally have my main number on the line with unlimited data.
The only thing to note is that when you change your phone number, your bill/usage will be prorated if it's your primary line.

  • Firewire Port out to lunch! Formac Studio goes with it! Help!

There was a nasty thunderstorm last night in my area. My computer was off the entire time, but upon restarting hours later, I found both my firewire ports out. This morning, one of them came back to life- but when I plugged my Formac studio into it- it no longer is recognized. I tried a few different attempts to get the other port back into action- but no luck. Anyone with suggestions? Anyone have a similar problem with Formac Studio going dead (I did email Formac as well)
    Thanks, Matt

I was having problems with my Formac, iSigh and 8 FW drives.
G5 2x Gighertz, 4gig RAM, two internal drives and the above.
Everything would work until I put the computer to sleep, upon wake-up, neither the isight or the formac would produce an image. Both were just black screens. I would have to unmount the drives, disconnect and reconnect all firewire to make them work again.
I have two firewire hubs, one connecting the isigh and the formac (connected to the FW 400 port) and the other to the 8 drives (connected to the FW 800 port).
After trying just about every combination between the iSight and the Formac, I used a different cable than the original cable with two magnets which the Formac uses and connected it to the Hub with the 8 FW drives. This got me to the point where all I had to do was reset the Formac and both the Formac and iSight would work without disconnecting and reconnecting all the FW devises.
But it also got me thinking what would happen if I used the Formac FW cable to connect the hub to the FW400 port. Maybe that cable would help stabilize the connection... Since it came with the Formac, maybe it would work better for video, right? Well, I connected the Formacs cable to the hub and to the FW400 port. The computer immediately shutdown! After that, neither the 400 nor the 800 ports work. The hub smelled like burned circutry and 3 of the 8 drives have damage to the file structure.
Needless to say I am fumming! What the **** is this cable from Formac? Why does it have what appears to be two magnets? and why would they sell this cable that has the potential to damage an entire system costing thousands of $$s?
I'm doing a file recovery now, but don't have my hopes high on that...
If this cable caused all this, Formac should be put out of business!

  • Porting out video to HDTV

    Hello...
I'd like to port out a video from my MacBook to my Panasonic HDTV. Is it as simple as running a USB cable from the computer to the USB port on the TV? If someone could tell me if it's possible and what the procedure is I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks...
    John

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Lois!
It sounds like your TV was setup by default as the home screen. Go to Apple menu -> System preferences -> Displays, gather windows, and move the menubar to the smaller MacBook represented icon.
As for the sound, those earlier MacBooks only support video out over DVI. Not all mini-DisplayPorts support sound either. You need to find see if your TV has an audio-input port and a way to pass through the sound to the TV's speakers, otherwise, you'll need to connect your Mac into the sound input of a receiver that has speakers if you want sound outside the Mac, or separate speakers via the headphone port of the Mac. Please in the future start a new topic thread when you don't have a solution to try for the original poster of a thread:

You'll get a wider audience, and won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.

  • Cancelling a line or Porting Out Question

Im not sure where this would go but ill put it here, move it if you need. I have a secondary line on my account and she is getting her own account due to personal reasons. Long story can't get into it. But since she is the secondary and the WHOLE account is under my name. Can she port her number out without my permission? Because i was gonna change the phone number and someone else told me i can change it and she can still port it out and just tell the new provider that she wants to take over the previous phone number she once had before. Can she do this?

    Hi Punisherbv,
Thank you for your inquiry. In review of the matter, it is understood that the account is in your name only being the Account Owner. However, did you add her as an Account Manager? If she is on the account as an Account Manger, this grants the authorization to port the number out as well doing other things on your account. Account Managers always need to verify the correct billing account password for account access. She would need to be removed off your account as an Account Manger prior to starting the port out process. Simply remove her off your account if you do not wish the number to be ported out if it has not yet been started. Also, change your billing account password to something only you know to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
    This remove an Account Manager:
    1. Sign into My Verizon Account
    2. Select Authorized or Remove Account Manger under Account Actions Actions on the My Verizon Home Page.
    3. Select the Remove check box next to the Account Manager's name to be removed.
    4. Click Continue.

  • I am porting out to another carrier.

I am porting out to another carrier. Will my final bill be prorated? I would rather not pay for 28 days of phone that I will not use!
I have been waiting for six months to do this move. Your plans are getting ever more expensive and you charge large amounts for small amounts of usage. I will be getting a better phone, a better no-contract service, a better price, $10/month, and I will be getting more texts and more minutes. I will also now be able to use me phone where I live, where verizon has bad reception. I will, lastly, be saving $45 per month and saving $560 per year.

Some other carriers will pay your ETF if you feel that you need to check out of VZN.  Others will simply offer lower prices for more service to compensate you for the VZN ETF.
In either case, you will not beat VZN voice coverage - it is the best!
Also, VZN customer service (even with faults) is the best by far.
That being said, all other carriers will beat Text, data and service prices.  So, you have to do what you head and your wallet dictates.
    Good luck

  • Trouble using Port Out.vi as Labview 7.0 executable in Windows XP

I successfully used Port Out.vi to access the memory location for the parallel port using LabVIEW 7.0. However, I need this utility to work as part of a built application. When I created the executable, the cviVRXWrapper.dll seemed to execute, but gave me the an error, suggesting that the driver required for this operation was not running. What is this driver, why is it not part of the run-time engine, and how do I get it to load if the application builder installer doesn't take care of that automatically?

When you built the installer, did you click the Advanced button and check the Port I/O Support to be added?

  • HT201328 How to unlock iPhone after porting out number

I finished 2 years contract for my AT&T iPhone 4S and requested to unlock the device. Shortly, I got AT&T email and I followed instructions to unlock my iPhone. I thought it's unlocked and ported out the number to other carrier online. When I inserted the new sim card into it, I realized that the iPhone was still locked. Then I used AT&T void sim card and tried to unlock again and again. It doesn't work. I called AT&T to assistance and it seems helpless.
What do I do about this now?
    Thanks

    Thanks Lawrence,
Yes, I tried to backup and restore your iPhone to iOS 8.1.3 using iTunes many times, but never got this Cong. message, instead 'Welcome to Your New iPhone'. BTW, my old sim card is locked, so I need to input the passcode and disconnect&connect iTune during restoring.
Searching online, I found it seems that the old AT&T sim card is inactive and I need a new sim card and number to unlock it. Is it correct?

  • Re: Porting out, how will the last bill workout?

    @KinquanaH_VZW:
Please tell how does it bill if the number is already on month to month after years of service?
    Is it prorated then?
Does one need to take any action after a confirmed port to a different carrier? (confirmed by the new carrier)
    <Branched to a new discussion.>

Good question huCairs! Whether you are on a month-to-month contract or still within the 2-year contract, the Terms & Conditions of the Customer Agreement (http://bit.ly/Kg6KQP) still apply equally to any contract services. So there is still no proration for ending service, since the account will complete the close at the end of the bill cycle.
We certainly don't want to lose you as a customer. Please let us know if there's something we can help with that's making you consider porting out.

  • Porting out, how will the last bill workout?

Looking to port out soon. I know my EFT is $320. But not sure of what the final plan charges will be. My bill just posted, and my billing cycle starts on the 3rd of the month. How does Verizon handle the last bill. Is their any prorating? Should I pay this bill or wait for the final bill? Thanks!

budney, I regret to hear your considering canceling service. Leiko27, thanks for the information,  your correct. If your under contract and you call to request cancellation of service, the cancellation will not occur within the system until the end of your current bill cycle. Your final bill will have your early termination fee listed.
Additionally, budney I would like to know why your canceling and review any options so that you can stay with our wireless family. I will send you a private message so that we can discuss your account in further detail. We truly do not want to loose you as a customer and want to make sure you are happy with your service. Your important to us and we value you as a customer.

  • No prorating on a port out. ATT charging me for 28 days of service I don't have, can't use.

I am a wireless customer for over a year. I ported out my lines on the second day of the billing cycle. I was expecting my last bill to be prorated just like has happened with every other utility and service I have canceled or ported away from in the past, including Verizon, T-mobile, home internet, phone, electric, gas.  Every other service and company prorates the last bill.  ATT is telling me they do not though.  I ported out on day two of the billing cycle and they are insisting they will charge me for a full 30 days of service, including the 28 days I am holding four deactivated, non-usable SIM cards.  This business practice is wrong and in these times of no-contract service, would definitely prevent me from going back to ATT if they won't work to make this right.  Please escalate this to someone who can help me.  I can't afford to pay for a whole month of service I can't even use....  [email protected]

It is listed in the terms of service, (that you agreed to when you got your service) that AT&T does not prorate final month's billing. Most of the other providers have the same terms.
Including Verizon. OP's memory of Verizon pro-rating is either faulty or they changed their policy since then. This comes from Verizon's service agreement in the paragraph on canceling service: "Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month's billing cycle, and you are responsible for all charges incurred until then."
It is possible that the OP could have left those other companies when they still adjusted the last month's bill on a pro rata basis.  Even on AT&T, the "blue" customers still receive adjustments on the last bill.  My understanding is that there are very few of us "blue" customers left at this point.

  • New MBP mini Display Port out to TV (HDMI) not working

Sorry, I just realized I put this in the Original Folder not the Late 2008 folder.
I bought a new MBP 2.4 GHz, 4 GBs RAM machine in January of this year, 2009. Model Identifier 5,1. I wanted to connect it to my TV's HDMI port. Only interested in getting video to TV since I run sound through a sound system. I have been using my MacBook Air's DVI adapter to a DVi - HDMI cable. I have a Sony Bravia 40 HD tv. Video works just fine from my MBAir, can change resolutions to anything and video works perfectly (audio has a little problem though - high frequency hum out of the MBAir's audio port). That's why I want to change to my MB Pro - audio from the New MBP is good.
With my new MBP, using it's Mini out- DVi connector and using the Same Video (HDMI) cable that I used with my MBAir - it doesn't work. The Display Preference does not detect the TV ever. I just get a black screen on the TV. Not even a flash on the TV like it's trying to connect - nothing.
I can pull the cable out of my MBP 2.4 and swap the DVi connector to the MBAir's cable and put it in the MBAir and it works just fine. Swap it back to the new MBP and nothing.
I have tried two different MBP Mini DVI out connectors, thinking one was bad. I even took the connector I use with the MBAir with me to the Apple Store to have them match the connectors, so I would be assured that I got the correct one. Oh by the way, my MBAir is the original one, not the newest one.
I have read a lot of links on the website where people are having trouble with Monitors using the new MBP Mini DVI video out but could not find any thread that matched my TV problem.
Any suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
Just to clarify, you state that you have a MacBookPro5,1, which is the late 2008 model. The video output on that model is a mini-DisplayPort, not a mini-DVI (like the pre-unibody MacBooks) or a micro-DVI (like your 1st gen MBA). DisplayPort is a different type of port. (Note - I requested an edit of the title of your post to clarify that).
When you connect the TV, in what sequence are you connecting? The 'proper' sequence is to connect the DVI-HDMI cable to the mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter, have the HDMI end connected to the TV, have the TV set to Line-In, looking for a signal, then connect to the MBP last.
What happens when you connect it like that? Have you tried System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays?
