Porting pages to new iMac

When I bought my new iMac I copied over most of the applications including iWorks. When I attempt to open Page, Keynote, and Numbers I get an error message basically saying I need to check to make sure this version of Pages works with this version of OS X. I can not, however, update the software since I can't open it, and the App Store doesn't recognize I have it on this computer. So I thought I woudl buy a new copy but that is rejected because it says Page already exists on the computer. I know I can delete the app and buy new, but why spend the money?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
From what you say, I understand that you bought iWork on a DVD, right? If this is correct, you can delete the iWork applications you have now on the iMac, and reinstall iWork from the DVD. As the Late 2012 iMac hasn't got a SuperDrive, you have two options to install iWork:
1. If you have another Mac or PC, use Remote Disc.
2. Buy an external optical drive and use it to install iWork on your Mac

  • Is anyone else super mad about not having a cd port for the new iMac?

I just bought this new iMac as an upgrade from my old '09 one. I thought this was to have a cd port but it doesn't! I'm super mad because i always used to burn my iMovies onto cds so I could watch them but now I can't. I guess I should've read the box but seriously? If it was good on the old macs they should have it here. I paid the same price for this mac as my old one and I lost one great feature. I need to produce products for people but I can't do that when THERE'S NO FREAKING PLACE TO PUT THE CDS!
    Is there any solution?

Doing a search here reveals several threads including this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20853750#20853750
It's been discussed for some time and external burners are available. I've had one for years.

  • IR port in the new iMac (2012 late)

I cannot use my remoter on the new iMac (2012 late). Is the IR sensor missing?

If you own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, look at this!
    Rowmote Pro
    http://regularrateandrhythm.com/apps/rowmote-pro/
I've seen the Satechi Remote! It's great and it will remote control an iDevice over Bluetooth, too!
This alternative is cheaper if you use WiFi
    Good Luck!

  • Connecting a Canon HV30 camcorder vai a thunderbolt port to a new imac

    Hi all
I was using imovie 11 with my old imac (purchased Summer 2008) using the firewire connection to transfer DV/HDV video from my Canon HV30 camcorder (tape). I just bought a new 27 inch imac with the thunderbolt ports and now I am stuck as there is no firewire
The camcorder had  a 4 pin firewire output so I have tried the following
Used the original camcorder cable (Firewire 400), converted to firewire 800 with an adapter and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter
Used a cable that converted the 4 pin firewire to firewire 800 and then used the Apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter.
In each case, imovie is not seeing the camcorder.
I know that my camcorder is not listed as being supported by imovie but has worked fawlessly on my old machine running the same software and operation system (Mountain Lion)
    Any ideas - thanks
    Kevin

    Hi epjustin,
What I said in the previous post (Oct 9 2013) works for me but I can try to explain in more detail if that helps.
Firstly. remove the battery or the ac power connection from the camcorder. - VERY IMPORTANT
Turn on the Imac and login
Attach a thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter to the IMac thunderbolt port - you can get this from the Apple Store
Now attach a firewire 800 to firewire 400 adapter to the the end of the previous adapter. You should now have the appropriate firewire 400 connection so that you can attach the original firewire cable that came with the camcorder.
Now connect the camcorder cable to complete the connection between the camcorder and the computer
Now connect the power supply or the battery to the camcorder and turn on the camcorder. Set the camcorder up so that it exports through the cable as normal
You should now be able to detect the camcorder in imovie. If you can't see the camcorder in imovie, go into system report from about this mac and you should see an entry in the thunderbolt section relating to the connected camera.
As I mentioned above, turn on and disconnect the power from the camcorder before disconnecting the camcorder from the Imac or turning off the Imac
If you can't get things to work, you may want to try connecting the camcorder to another computer as there is a chance that the board is fried if it doesn't work
Please let me know if you need any further help

  • MS Front Page - my new iMac

I'm completely new to Mac. I have jumped the PC ship after thinking about it for years woohoo!
I run a charity's website that was created in MS FrontPage (cercopan.org); this may be an easy one to answer, but FP is not compatible with Mac, so what is the best way to go about transferring the website to my new computer (which is to be delivered to me within a week)?
    Thanks, Dave

Copy the entire /My Music/iTunes/ folder from your PC to /Music/ on your Mac.
That should be all you need to do.
Launch iTunes and everything will be there.
If not, post back before you start messing with it.

  • Logic & ensemble on a new Imac... any issues with  1- FW800 port???

    Hello Guys,
Have there been any major issues running a drive and ensemble on the same port on the new Imacs??????
    Thanks in advance,

My Mac Pro crashes all day since i updated or installed the Motu card.
    I have qty 3, Motu 24/IO's, and 1 828mk3 and 1 896 mk3.
I updated to snow and then downloaded and installed motu's drivers and my Mac crashes all day long.
Left Support ticket on MOTU site and they are so lame they can
't even answer a support ticket let alone answer the phone.
I am hostage to a bad sompnay!. I own the PCIe 424 and all the 24/io's etc.
Is there another company that makes 1 card that will support 80 inputs of 96kz audio? I sure need one that only takes up one PciE slot!!!
Also if you have Ethno instruments it will crash your mac.
Is ther a script or master un-installer so you can remove all of Motu drivers/
Also try opening your console, and watching...it looks for a fw/usb device that is not recognized anymore. Guess MOTU wrote some good dirty code again that causes havoc on the buss!.
ANy ideas on another audio system that is snow lepord campatible?

  • New imac has only one firewire 800 port?

Is there a hub or repeater you can use instead of daisy chaining. Can't figure out why my old imac has two firewire ports and the new imac has one. How are others managing multiple hard drives? I wish to use a hub for my firewire connections. What is the best way. thanks

You can locate Firewire hubs however they are expensive. I have had 3 Firewire 800 external HD's daisy chained together for 3 years that work flawlessly. The drives I have come with 2 FW 800 ports so this is quite easy, there are several top quality external HD's that are similar including:
    OWC Mercury Pro line
Lacie Quadra D2 line (this is what i have)
    G-Tech G series line
All of these drives have similar specifications and are all high quality products. I think you will find them to be the most recommended on these forums.
BTW your old iMac had 1 Firewire port and 1 Firewire 800 port not 2 firewire ports.

  • What do I need to support my FireWire 800 gear on a new iMac

I need to replace my antique mac pro 1.1
I am now retired and my needs tend more towards games than av creation so the new Mac Pro is not only overkill but the dual video I here is not optimized for games in any case.
The problem is all of my existing FireWire 800 gear and no FireWire ports on the new iMac designs
I guess I need to buy an external thunderbolt case for the 4 2 terabyte drives in the old pro do any of the external T-bolt cases offer good FireWire 800 support (full speed support) for all of my old gear?
Are there other ways to support these devices than an external t-bolt case for sata drives?
And for a game playing iMac is a fusion drive or a large solid state drive best choice bearing in mind I will have about 10 terabytes of FireWire and t-bolt external storage ( I was thinking of making the drives in the required t-bolt external case a raid array for best performance)
So what external t-bolt drive case should I buy and if it does not support a set of FireWire 800 ports what external t-bolt gadget for that support should I buy?
    Thanks

    Windshadow99 wrote:
I looked at those but would it not be far better to have a gadget that plugged into a t-bolt port and then had a bunch of FireWire 800 ports on it? There must be lots of folks that like me invested in FW800 gear with their older computers and need something like this.
Perhaps, though as with anything it depends on your needs. I don't know of any such device, though. All the Thunderbolt docks I've seen that have Firewire at all have only a single port. You could use a TBolt to FW adapter with Thunderbolt ports in a dock, though. A Firewire hub isn't a lot of good other than providing multiple connectors since all devices are on the same FW bus and hence not really much different from daisy-chaining. There's certainly no performance improvement and probably not much in the way of stability improvement either.
I was told a long time ago back in the mac 2fx sccsi days that daisy chaining things should be avoided and  giving things their own pro was better does this advice sill hold good?
SCSI was very different (and usually wasn't a problem as long as it was terminated correctly). Daisy-chaining FW is different, though it very much depends on the devices and the sort of throughput you need. Daisy-chaining Thunderbolt should be no problem at all as long as the devices support it.

  • Migrate photo's from old iMac to new iMac - Thunderbolt / firewire

I have a Mid 2007 iMac and just ordered the new iMac.
When it arives what is the best way to transfer my photo library. The old imac has a firewire port but the new iMac have thunderbolt so what cable do I need?
    Thanks

    Yes.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Is the new iMac faster than my PowerMac G5 dual 2Ghz?

I have a PowerMac G5, Dual 2Ghz (first generation model)
2.5GB Ram, and a ATI 9800 Pro 256mb Graphics Card.
Looking at the SPEC ratings on the Apple page, the new iMac (2.0Ghz model) scored...
    SPECint_rate2000 = 32.6
    SPECfp_rate2000 = 27.1
And according to http://www.apple.com/lae/g5/ the dual 2Ghz scored...
    SPECint_rate2000 = 15.7
    SPECfp_rate2000 = 17.2
Doesn't this mean is roughly twice as fast? Does SPEC just measure the processor or the whole system?
And how does my ATI Radoen 9800 Pro 256MB compare to the ATI Radeon X1600 256MB?
    Thanks!

I agree. Specs are great and certainly are helpful in comparing the new MacBook to the new iMac as they are quite similar. What's really interesting is how PowerPC coded apps will compare to their universal binary equivalents on the new machines. I for one am curious to see how the universal binary of FCP Studio runs on the new iMac vs today's PowerMac. While people have been using FCP tools on G5 iMacs and G4 PowerBooks, performance isn't nearly as good as the same app on a Dual or Quad G5 PowerMac. It could usher in a whole new segment of Pro tools users who can get good performance from a less expensive option like the new iMac.

  • As there is no audio input on the new iMac range, What external equipment will allow me to record onto my iMac ?

As there is no audio input port on the new imac range, what external epuipment can i use to record dj podcasts from a pioneer DJM 700 mixer?

I'd be inclined to use something like the Numark Stereo I/O. If you're currently using the line-in on an iMac then you will see a drastic improvement.
    http://www.numark.com/product/stereoio
That said, you can spend as much or as little as your wallet will allow on a USB input device, more investment brings better quality ADCs, higher bit rates, lower latency and more inputs.

  • On my new Imac, I had the trial version of Pages, and saved some files in it. Now I have purchased the full version from Apple via a download, but I cannot save or print the old files, please help!

On my new Imac I saved some files on the free trial version of Pages, since downloading the full version from Apple, have been unable to save or print from old files saved when using the trial version. Any ideas? Thank you!

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • I have pages, numbers and keynote on my macbook pro, but when i try to use the apps on my new iMac it will not let me save

I purchased Pages, Numbers and Keynote for my MacBook Pro and iPad last year.  I just purchased a new iMac for my wife and it came with iWorks.  When I try to save a document on the iMac it tells me I must buy an iWorks serial number, but the App Store shows the applications as installed and will not process the request.  How do I correct?

Did you pay for iWorks to come preinstalled on the iMac? Because it sounds like what you have is a trial version, which is why it is stating that you need to buy a serial number.
I suggest that you delete the entire trial iWorks suite. Once they are safely in the Trash where the Mac App Store can't see them, you can sign into your account on the MAS and download the MAS versions that you own a license to use.

  • How do I uninstall Mavericks and recover Lion?  I have a brand new iMac and web pages stall or freeze since I installed Mavericks.  I can't get it to download software for my printer when I connect it.

I have a brand new iMac.  It was working fine until I downloaded Mavericks.  Now I have web pages that freeze while trying to load.  The blue in the address bar stalls and freezes.  If I try to load from page 1 to a later page, or reverse that, I also have the same problem.  I tried to connect my printer for the first time, and again, the blue progress bar froze.  Then I got the yellow  triangle telling me there was a connection problem.  My internet connection is via an Air Card as that is my only option where I live.  I packed up the whole new iMac and took it to my Air Card provider, where they also have very fast Wifi, and they had the same problem with Wifi.  I use my Air Card with my MacBook and it works JUST GREAT!  I really want to return to Lion.  HELP.

The only way to retutn to Lion is to format your drive (erase, lose all) and either:
    1. clone back the clone copy i hoep you have, or
    2. first backup your files, then format and install Lion again
But really, mavericks works great. You have a problem. Find out why. First, what unusual software do oyu have installed that may be conflicting with it? Virus, system modifiers, etc?  Second what OLD software do you have that might be the problem.  finally, you might need to do a re-install if something errored during install.
