Porting Verizon number to another carrier

I have ten days to go until the current contract with Verizon ends.  I just signed up with another carrier and asked that they port the number.  I am content to pay for the Verizon service for the last few days even if no service is available.  In that case if an ETF still charged and if so, do you know how much that is?

If you have 10 days to go until your contract with Verizon is over and you have already started the porting process with your new carrier, you will most likely have an ETF charged to you.
If you last upgraded by purchasing a smartphone, your ETF will be $120. If you last upgraded by purchasing a basic phone, your ETF will be $60.

    Hi guys,
I keep getting "waiting for activation" on my iMessage. I can only send/receive iMessage from my email address, NOT my phone number.
I have done all kind of fixing suggestions that I can find online, but nothing works so far.
    - Date & time set as automatic (I don't know why this matter, but mine was already set as automatic from the begining)
    - Reset network setting
    - Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
    - Restore to factory setting (from back up & as new iPhone)
    - Turning on/off iMessage & facetime
    - Sign out/in of apple ID
    - Change location from apple ID
    - Hard reset/reboot
    And many others.
...me too. I'm in Portugal having the same issue!! Hopefuly Apple will give us a solution, shortly...

  • Touch 2 / Hero or Should I Port my number to anoth...

    Hi All,
Sorry. All in a muddle, lost without my phone!
Does anyone know if you port a BBA mobile number to another mobile provider?
I'm having a nightmare with my S710 turning off when it wants to and dumping freshly downloaded emails. Especially when I turn on the WiFi.
I have spoken to the Sales side and I can get another phone if I am willing to pay for it, either extra or in one lump.
The trouble is that if I want the phone free then at £30 a month on top of my Braodband Anywhere allowance the Hero is plonked straight in line with the iPhone if I upgrade my package. Or the Touch at slightly less.
I was informed by the sales staff that if I wanted to leave then this was my choice as my BBA contract is now ended.
If I stay with BT - Whats the best phone for emails and a little bit of web browsing? Touch or hero?
Is the iPhone better than the hero?

In my opinion, the iPhone is better than the HTC Hero. If you're choosing between the 2 BT phones though, make sure you get the Hero. It is honestly much, much better than the Touch 2.
Edit: The current iPhone (iPhone 4) has had some problems with signal strength when you hold it a certain way (in the bottom left hand corner). Bear that in mind when making a decision. However, Apple are giving a free iPhone protector away to compensate for this design flaw.

  • My Verizon NUMBER - HOW Portable -

    I am making a decesion to run with some new contact information.  Blasting about 1000 people the info and I want to get it right.  How portable is my verizon landline freedom package number.  My questions;
Can I take it when I move and use verizon again ?
Can I turn off the phone service and just pay verizon to forward calls ?
Can I port the number to another service provider ?
In short I am debating forcing all calls through toll free numbers and paying the expense but the convenice of directing my own mess.

I'm not all that sure what you mean about "Blasting" and "forcing all calls" but as far as your phone service goes....
If have regular old phone service and you move and stay within your area you can take it with you.  There's a chance if you have Fios Digital Voice that you can take it further with you since it's an internet connection (I'm not 100% sure how that works).
When you turn off your phone service there will be a recording for 60 days giving out any number you want, or you can ask for Call Mover (not avail in all areas):  http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/phone/my+verizon/call+mover/call+mover.htm?
You can usually port your number to another provider or to a cell phone, but it's best to check with the provider itself.

  • Can I change carriers and port my number from ATT to Verizon via Apples website when I preorder the iPhone5?

I am going to order iPhone5 but want to change carriers from AT&T to Verizon and port my number. Can this be done through Apple's website or will I have to go into a cell phone store?

    Yep.

  • Porting a Verizon number from a family plan to a different carrier

    Hello everyone,
Basically, I have a line with Verizon under a family plan, I am not the owner of that plan, but I am looking to port my number to T-mobile since I don't think that the price-service ratio is not fair for the mediocre service that I get.
I was wondering if I would be able to port my number even if I am not the owner of the family plan. I only have a few months left until the contract terminates, and I am willing to pay the ETF.
I also wanted to know if the owner would have to be involved during the porting process, since I would not like to bother the plan owner to complete this action.
Lastly, my billing cycle ends the 26th of each month, when do you think I should start the process in order to not pay the bill for the following month?
Thank you very much for your help, I greatly appreciate all your responses and I apologize in advanced for the amount of questions, but I am new to this and just want the entire process to go as smooth as possible.
    Thanks again.

  • Verizon will not port my number

I'm trying to move from a small carrier (Chat Mobility) to Verizon.  I'm moving 3 phones now and will add another 2 next year.  I really want to take my old phone numbers with me.  When I went to the store today they told me it’s not possible to port the numbers.  How can that be?  I know Chat Mobility runs on the Verizon network so I know they have coverage here.  Verizon doesn’t have a problem selling me a phone with a new number for where I live but won't let me port my number?.  When I talk to tech support they just tell me "that's weird" and can't explain to me why.  Please help.

I'd call the to see if they have a way to "migrate" the phone number instead of trying to port it. I know that's how some other carriers do those transfers...assign a temporary number, then migrate the old vendor carrier phone number from the vendor system into the standard postpaid system. Hope they can get it straightened out for you, but like daonys said, it's possible they may not be able to perform a migration, either. It's always worth a shot.

  • Using Verizon iPhone 5 on another carrier?

I've been reading around and from what I seen, Verizon's iPhone 5 is already unlocked.
So if I want to use the phone with another carrier, how would I go about that?
When I take the phone to the new carrier, would they be able to activate it no problem?
Is it possible to port my number with the phone as well?

What carrier are you thinking of going to. Verizon is a CDMA phone and AT&T and Sprint are GSM. So even if they are unlocked you can only use a CDMA phone with a provider that is CDMA.

  • How to port phone number from verizon?

I have signed up with a different carrier.  I have/had a pre-paid monthly plan with verizon. I want to port my phone number and close my account. But somehow I can not reach anyone live on the phone to do so. There is no webpage place for this either.
    thank you

You need the carrier to imitate the port. You can't call Verizon and have it done.

  • Can I port a number that's out of contract to another phone?

Can I port the number from my iphone 5s when it's out of contract in a few weeks, and place it on a iphone 6 that's already bought on a new line and cancel the line?

Then why couldn't you wait the few weeks until your current account is eligible for the upgrade and not have this hassle? In it was announced yesterday if your contract ends before 2014/11/15, you could have upgraded early for the two year contract price.
Now you have to wait until your contract date and port the number you want to another carrier, start a plan there and turn around and cancel the other carrier plan by porting the preferred number on top of the temporary phone number you got when you purchased the iPhone 6. It is more hassle then it is worth. I should know as I have done something very similar three years ago.

  • Please Help! Straight Talk Ported My Number From Verizon

I switched from Straight Talk to Verizon last month and had my numbers ported, everything was working fine until a few days ago.  Now, I am going on day three of not having service. I stopped in at the Verizon store and found out that this is a known issue. Apparently, those of us whom had our numbers ported from Straight Talk recently to Verizon had our numbers ported back to Straight Talk.  Somehow Straight Talk did this without our permission.
Our accounts are gone and we can't even access My Verizon for help as we are no longer have Verizon accounts. I was told by the store staff that the issue is being addressed; however, can you give me a time frame?   I am a first responder and need a phone for emergency activation and response.    I've sent multiple twitter and facebook messages with no response.
I'm worried that I'll lose the number I've had for 15 years and everything is linked to.
This NEEDS to be resolved ASAP!   As you violated my contract, I may just take my new phones to a more reliable provider.
    Thanks!

I'm sorry to learn of the issues outlined in your post outbounddan! Sounds like your phones were ported out to your previous carrier. Please be assured that we would not be able to port those numbers out to any other carrier. The process must be initiated by the other carrier with your authorization. We can certainly start the port-in process to get your numbers back to us if you visit this link http://bit.ly/qDhvBY

  • Port in my number to overwrite the current verizon number

Let's say I opened a line with Verizon to test it out and signed a 2-year contract, and got phone number AAA-AAA-AAAA. After a couple of months when I think everything is great, can I port my number BBB-BBB-BBBB from another provider to my account, and overwrite the AAA-AAA-AAAA number? Or would it be considered as terminating the AAA-AAA-AAAA line and add the BBB-BBB-BBBB line, thus I will be charged with ETF?

    Hello happy community members,
This seems to be a trending topic since the tiered data pricing was implemented. The information that I'm about to provide will be based on the information given and not on an actual account. Keep in mind if you have specific account related questions about an intended account change then the best way to receive a customized answer would be to send me a private message.
When a mobile number is being replaced with a port in number then the original service agreement and the grandfathered feature remains in place. Although the mobile number will change, other information related to the service when it was initially activated will not change. Some examples of this information are the customer agreement, MIN (mobile identification number) associated with the service, MEID, etc. Internally, the activation date and grandfathered feature can easily be traced systematically back to the original date in which service was initiated. As far as the grandfathered feature then there are some changes that can determine if it will be retained. Some examples are as follows.
    1.  Deactivating a smartphone and activating a basic phone to the mobile number will lose the grandfathered data plan.
    2.  Features changes made on My Verizon or by phone that requires current data pricing. (Usually done by mistake)
    3.  Disconnecting a mobile number and then reactivating service. (New service will be based on current available services)
So GTIMKV, if the situations above aren't applicable to your situation then you will continue with your service agreement as it was originally initiated and enjoy your unlimited data if you already have it.
    Thank you...

  • Verizon system can't handle porting phone number from Straight Talk customers?

According to this discussion: Verizon system can't handle porting phone number from Straight Talk customers?  If still true, then VW misses a huge business opportunity. Adjusting the sizing the account number to be wider is not a hard system adjustment task and have almost zero system ripple-effect impact (I am in IT works).
    http://www.prepaidreviews.com/straighttalk.html
"Straight Talk makes it impossible to port an existing cell phone number from their operation to a competitor such as Verizon. To port my cell phone number I was told by Verizon to provide my ST account number. It was not listed on any account documents. After 45 minutes on hold, ST customer service told me it was the cell phone serial number. But that number was too long to insert into Verizon's system. After another hour long wait, ST directly told a Verizon rep that was the only account number. As a result, I had to abandon the cell phone number that I have had for nearly 10 years and get a new one. I will not be doing any business with ST in the future."

Ah ha!  Okay, so I just need to be more patient in other words.    I'm just glad nothing is wrong.
I did use the "erase all data and settings" option on the iPhone 6 menu because I wanted to go through the setup myself.  I hope that didn't mess anything up.
    Thank you!!

  • I am porting out to another carrier.

I am porting out to another carrier. Will my final bill be prorated? I would rather not pay for 28 days of phone that I will not use!
I have been waiting for six months to do this move. Your plans are getting ever more expensive and you charge large amounts for small amounts of usage. I will be getting a better phone, a better no-contract service, a better price, $10/month, and I will be getting more texts and more minutes. I will also now be able to use me phone where I live, where verizon has bad reception. I will, lastly, be saving $45 per month and saving $560 per year.

Some other carriers will pay your ETF if you feel that you need to check out of VZN.  Others will simply offer lower prices for more service to compensate you for the VZN ETF.
In either case, you will not beat VZN voice coverage - it is the best!
Also, VZN customer service (even with faults) is the best by far.
That being said, all other carriers will beat Text, data and service prices.  So, you have to do what you head and your wallet dictates.
    Good luck
