Portions of email is garbled

This mostly happens with Safari, but here's an example of an email I received from a local radio station. For the most part it's clear enough, but this section is a prime example of how the text can go wacky.
Kansas City Chiefs will be featured in the HBO series, HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS. The show debuts August 8th
Now that is truly strange. When I copied and pasted the questionable text into this forum message the text appears as it should. But in my email this portion,
"HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS."
appears to look like this:
"JCTFMPQEMU<"VJG"MCPUCU"EKV[EJKGHU"
Now how strange is that?
I tried clearing my font cache with NukeFont, but the problem still remains.

Seems no one can help. Bought a new mac so hopefully this issue won't occur with Leopard.

  • Preview column in Mail using OS X Lion, "extra" portions of email text showing when the actual message does not have the extra text showing?

I Don't know a way to post an example, but here's the issue; In the preview column window, where you can see a portion of the conversation, I have what looks like extra messages showing up. In the view column, this extra text is not there! These messages are usually private in nature(haven't seen anything too bad - yet) and have nothing to do with the actual email. Any ideas?

To add more; I first noticed this 2 days ago and reported it to Apple. When I did notice it, I went to preferences and changed how many lines of the content preview shows, then I closed the message view column and expanded the preview column as wide as I could get it. On one of the messages, it kept continuing after it ran out of space in the preview, for a running total of at least 100 words. Even then, in the actual message viewer, it only showed 1 complete message of about 25 words.

  • Email text garbled in received emails

After years with no issues, all of a sudden a number of emails I'm receiving have strange characters instead of readable text. It's always the same capital A inside a box. The same messages show up fine on my phone, and I can read them (mostly) if I choose to see the raw source. What's causing this, how do I fix it, and why is it happening now? I'm using OS X 10.9.2.

    Hi lexrudolf,
I understand you are using 10.9 Mavericks and in Mail you have seen several emails coming in with strange text. The following article does say Mountain Lion, but I would suggest following the same exact steps to get this resolved.

  • Ironport - email becomes garbled

    Hello,
we are using Ironport (virtual appliance) and one email gets changed by the email gateway. The problematic message is a HTML email that is sent from a qmail MTA system. When the email flows through the Ironport gateway the HTML content isn't displayed correctly - raw HTML code is displayed.
I've tried to disable all the email Policies that could potenally influence the email but the problem persists. Additionally I've checked the source of the email and the only difference between the two emails is in the header - the email that goes through Ironport has one additional hop under "Received" part.
Do you have any suggestions what should be additionally checked on the Ironport virtual appliance ?
    BR,
    Jan

    Hi,
I've created a TEST Mail Flow Policy that has all the security features disabled (Spam Detection, Virus Protection etc.). I checked with message tracking and the MFP is successfully used when the problematic email hits the appliance. Other stuff under message tracking also seem to be ok.
I've tried to send the email to gmail and also to the same MTA but this time bypassing Ironport, both times the email was displayed correctly.

  • *** Some incoming/outgoing emails have garbled text it it...

I sent out an email yesterday and the recipient called me to let me know that the message looked like garbage because there were punctuation marks (question marks, parentheses, etc.) in the body of the email and I didn't put them there. I've also noticed that emails that come to me as replies sometimes have these incorrect marks in them if you scroll down and read my original message. Is there a way to see why this is happening and if so, prevent it from occurring in the future or is it a problem on the user's end?

  • Email receives garbled

iphone4 forward messages with Chinese attachment, Outlook receives garbled?
can you tell me to do?

I doubt there is anything you can do at your end, but you can try the following.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Need help in setting file name with special characters in attachment

    Hi
We have a requirement where we need to set the file name that contains special characters (like Russian) and send mauil using Java mail.
If we set the file name as such, the attachment in the email contains garbled filename
Can you pl let me know how to resolve this?
We should use the file name as attachment name and this will have say special characters. The receiver who gets the mail should get with the correct attachment name
One important point.. the attachments are opened from MS outlook.
    Thanks and regards

Read the FAQ carefully. You don't need to call encodeText unless you're using a really
    old version of JavaMail.
And, it depends on whether the mail reader you're using is handling encoded parameters
according to the (new) MIME standard, or according to the (old) non-standard hack.
Sadly, without knowing what mail reader the recipient is using, it's impossible to use
encoded filenames that will work everywhere.

  • Font error when exporting PDF

Just exported my file from InDesign to check the PDF before sending it to the printer. Getting message "Cannot extract the embedded font 'CDGLWI+Optima-Bold'. Some characters may not diplay or print correctly."
I saw thread about emailed files garbling, but this is on my own computer.
File uses all optima fonts and none are showing correctly in the PDF. Find Font in InDesign doesn't show a problem and nor does Font Book when I validate the font files. Using In Design CS4 and OS 10.6.5.
    Ideas?

Apparently a font can have a problem or perhaps something in the conversion to PDF has a problem with that font that Font Book doesn't see. After replacing font it now exports to PDF just fine.

  • Mail notifications for Eudora clients not displaying correct information in message subject

I have been using PMDF from Innosoft with Netscape Calendar Server 4.0. I
recently upgraded from Calendar Server 3.51 to 4.0, and I am using the
    sendmail command to
send out email notifications. When I send out email notifications, clients
who use Eudora and who are on a Windows platform do not see the correct
information in the Subject line of the emails. This problem does not occur
with other email clients, including Eudora clients on Macintosh platforms.
This problem also does not occur when I send email using the natives endmail
    binary.

The following line is an example of the Subject line that is displayed when
a Eudora client on Windows views an email notification:<BR><P>

Is there is a way to configure how Calendar Server writes the Subject lines
    for email notifications?

    parameter are as follows:<BR>

Try first disabling any custom rules you may have, and see whether that makes a difference. If the problem persists, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
