Portlet to Transfer files across firewall

We have 2 standalone portal environments, one internal (4.5WS) and the other externally facing (5.0.3), which we have had to do to satisfy certain security constraints placed upon us. We now want to be able to 'push/publish' information to the external portal's file system so that it can be published via the knowledge directory.
We are looking at producing a portlet that allows users inside our network to select file(s) and then select a folder location on the external network to 'push' them to using something like FTP as there are firewalls in between. Does this sound the right way of trying to resolve this requirement and has anybody got any experience they can offer on any pitfalls we might face.
Many Thanks,
RossDML

Hi Neil,
IF the Mac Firewall is On, it will need port 5190 listed in both the UDP and TCP lines of open ports in a setting for iChat.
In the modem or router it will also need the port open to both protocols.
If the device has UPnP and this is used then this is not a problem.
In many routers Port Forwarding is done on a port basis and not a protocol one but newer devices are specifying protocols as well now.
Where this happens the response can be a mixed bag.
Some allow you to port Forward list a Type of protocol and then list Both (ANY) (TCP and UDP) on the open (Local) side.
HAvig said thatt there do seem to be some that do not like the ports forwarded to both protocols.
In this case you have to apply a work around.
1) Delete the port Forwarding for the TCP protoco in the router or modem.
2) Go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts section.
Select the account in question in the list on the left
Click on the Server Settings tab
Change the port from 5190 to 443.
You should now be good to go.
Port Triggering
This does need port 5190 on TCP to Trigger both TCP and UDP
Sometime though with some devices the Trigger is allowed anyway and does noot need staing so Triggering 5190 TCP means that it is open and only the UDP part has to be specified.
So esssentially yes it sounds right but will depend on your particular device how it is set up.
And yes your Buddies ned to have port 5190 open on UDP to receive files.

  • Zen Micro won't transfer files, Creative are not helping

I have had my Zen Micro since early January (bought from Amazon.co.uk) and it has been fine until a couple of weeks ago. One day I plugged it into the computer to put some more music on there and it came up with the dreaded message "Player is not connected". Since then, every time I try to transfer files across, it will come up with this same message. Once I managed to get one song across, then got the message, but now it won't let me transfer at all.
I have contacted Creative Support, and explained what happens. I have tried everything they suggest (different USB cable, uninstall/re-install software, download new 4.00.8 driver, disable anti-virus software, different PC, disk clean-up, etc.) yet it still does not want to work! I keep replying to Support telling them this, but the person at the other end is really not helping the situation at all. So far he has told me to do all of the above THREE times, even after I've told him very clearly that they don't make a difference. I'm now convinced I will never get this player sorted out.
Why won't they issue me with an RMA? Surely we've run out of options by now? I am getting extremely fed up with the whole thing, and right now I don't even feel like replying again because I know I won't get any help
P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP.

Claire does this mean you have tried it on different machines?
Qoute "P.S. All this has been tried on both WinME and XP"
If so than it may be a hardware problem.
Get some ad-aware programs as something maybe restricting you use of the USB ports. AdawareSE is very good.
Right click on my computer on the desk top, goto properties and click the Hardware tab
    <IMG src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/johnnyjudge/Slide.jpg">
    Click on Device Manager,
Scroll down and click on Uni'veral Serial Bus Controllers, of course with your Micro plugged in look for it. Right click the on the device and goto properties, and see does it denote the devcie is wotrking properly and are there any drivers assigned to it. If so what them drivers are.

  • Transfer Files over 2 macs using Firewire?

    Hi,
I got an iMac and a macbook and I would like to transfer files across both computers using firewire, as I heard its super fast? Much faster than transferring over my airport network.
Any ideas how to do this?
    Thanks

Firewire is fast (400mbits/sec) but the Ethernet in all new Apple Hardware is even faster (1000mbits/sec).
Connect the two systems with an Ethernet cable.
    On both machines:
Turn on Appletalk: System Preferences -> Network -> Built-in Ethernet -> AppleTalk Tab -> 'Make AppleTalk Active' on both machines.
Turn on File Sharing: System Preferences -> Sharing -> Services Tab -> Check 'Personal File Sharing' and Click 'Start'.
You should be able to see each machine in the Finder - in the top left corner of any Finder window should be 'Network'. Double-Click on the name of the OTHER machine, and enter your User ID and Password. When prompted, select the volume name that is the same as your login name.

  • Transfer files between ASA and a host across a VPN

    Hello Guys,
I have a Remote Access VPN between an ASA and a Windows PC, the issue that I'm seeing is that I can't transfer files between the ASA and my PC across the VPN.
The first time I thought that because the size of the file and some issue with my ADSL service bandwidth could be the problem. However, I tried to copy the running config of the ASA to my PC and is also impossible. I received this error:
    ASA# copy running-config tftp:
    Source filename [running-config]?
Address or name of remote host []? 10.10.10.2   ----> This is the address of my PC over the VPN tunnel
    Destination filename [running-config]? ASA-Config04032014

%Error writing tftp://10.10.10.2/ASA-Config04032014 (Timed out attempting to connect)
Does anybody had this kind of problem before?
    Thanks in advance,

I was wondering if I transfer files between a PC and Mac via Ethernet cable can I reverse the transfer from a Mac to a Pc?
Yes. Start Windows File Sharing on the Mac and then access it on the PC.

  • Slow transfer file speed in Windows 7 SP1, Windows 2008 R2

We have Windows 7 SP 1 and Windows 2008 R2 in both Physical and Virtualization environment. Our network speed is 1 Gbps for Client and 10 Gbps for server infrastructure. We found this
problem in all referred environment and here is the current situation.
    Transfer files from Windows 7 to Server 2008 (Slow < 10 MB/s)
    Transfer files from Windows 2008 to Server 7 (Slow < 10 MB/s)
    Transfer files from Windows 7 to Windows 7 (Slow < 10 MB/s)
Transfer files from Windows 2003 to Server 7 (Normal up to 120 MB/s)
Transfer files from Windows 2008 to Server 7 in Safe Mode with Network (Normal up to 120 MB/s)
Copy File using 3rd software  (Normal up to 120 MB/s) but copy via windows explorer (Slow < 10 MB/s)
We try to do some configuration but it still doesn’t work below.
Command netsh int tcp set global
Update NIC driver vmxnet3 (Virtualization) and Realtek (Physical)
    Disable Firewall
    Disable and Enable network card
Apply hotfix in Kb2675785 and Kb2885974
Apply all Update Windows using Windows update feature
Finally we found strange solution to improve network speed which faster more than 10 times (60 - 150 Mbps) by using one of condition below
Change UNC form using Hostname to IP Address
    Restart DHCP service
Change some NIC hardware configuration or Check and uncheck IP V4 property in NIC configuration (No restart required)
This is an temporary solution for No.1 but in No.2 and No.3 user need administrator right ans after computer is restarted the problem still existing. Do you have any Idea to fix this problem
in long term? Thank you for you help.

    Hi,
The difference should be Windows Server 2003 uses SMB 1.0 protocol:
•SMB 1.0 (or SMB1) – The version used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2
•SMB 2.1 ((technically SMB2 version 2.1) – The version used in Windows 7 (or any SP) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (or any SP)
Just for a test, disable the SMB v2 to check if it could make any difference:

  • Why am I unable to transfer files from computer to external hard drive?

I am unable to transfer files to an exteral hard drive, as the computer is not allowing me to drag the files across to either the icon on the desktop or in Finder - I have 3 different hard drives (including an Apple time capsule) and none of these is allowing transfer. I'm using version OS X 10.6.8. Any ideas?

Besides the TC, what format are the externals?
Fo a Get Info on the External drives, what rights do you have?

  • What cable should I use to connect an old iBook G4 to a MacBook Pro in order to transfer files?

I'd like to transfer files from the iBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro.  However, I'm not a "pro" at using a computer and I'm not even sure what cable to use to connect the two laptops.  I welcome your suggestions!

The Y is FireWire and the MBP has a FW800 port. On the iBook you should find a FW400 port shaped like an arrow (see below, left pic). So for speediest transfer, you need a Firewire 400 to Firewire800 cable that will allow you to plug both Macs together (right pic).
Once you have gotten that, place the IBook in Target Disk Mode (see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 ) and connect both with the cable. The iBook's hard disk drive will appear on the MacBook's desktop. You can either drag stuff across or use the Migration Assistant found in Utilities to ensure applications get transferred correctly.

  • Can u transfer files via airdrop from a iphone 5 to a mac and vice a versa

    hi,
can u transfer files via air drop from an iphone 5 to a mac air, and mac air to a iphone 5.

I would like a constructive response, rather than an ascerbic one.
We have owned Iphones for a couple of years, and used photostream to copy photos to a PC...
Within the family, we have 2 ipod touch, 2 x iphone, 2 x ipad minis and 2x Ipad Air.
I have recently purchased a Mac desktop and would like to use this as a central backup and storage for all devices.
I have been made aware that photostream / Icloud will only do its thing and back up to the Mac whenever the designated account is open on the Mac. (so I must remember to ensure the account for each family member is opened at lease once a month)
SO, on one of the iphones, for example, we have over 900 photos in the photostream album. When connected to the Mac, only the last 30 days of photos are copied across (about 60 photos).
How can I transfer across the other 850 photos ?
I cannot copy them across to the camera roll on the iphone
I cannot access them from iphoto
the camera does not show itself as an " external drive" in Finder (Please note I am more acustomerd to using a PC).
Itunes only allows "sync" and "backup" of the phone but is not at all helpful. (No indication of what is is/has backed up or synced)
My Icloud is currently holding 12gb of my data, but the only info I KNOW is in the Icloud is my next dentist appointment.
I really wish to transfer these photos across, as I would also like to upgrade the ios software, but this needs a few gb of memory space, and, of course, the
These photos are visible within the iphone, but how do i get them transferred???
like I said at the beginning, constructive answers please.

  • How do I transfer files from PC to Time Capsule?

I have an old PC and a new MacBook and I bought the Time Capsule to transfer files from the PC to the Mac. I was able to set up the Time Capsule using the Mac (had trouble trying with the PC) and it seems to be working fine. Both computers have wireless internet access through it, and I figured out how to transfer files from the Mac. The problem is that I don't know how to transfer files from the PC to the Time Capsule. It's not appearing as an icon in "My Computer," which was what I thought would happen so I could drag files onto it. I'm not sure how to get into the Time Capsule hard drive. This is critical, as it was the primary reason I bought it, in addition to the router and backup features. Any help would be appreciated.

Further update: I think I solved my problem. I changed the access on Time Capsule disk to allow guests to read/write, and I turned off my firewall, which I think was blocking access to the Time Capsule, since I kept getting messages that said there was a Net BIOS access issue. So now my Compaq is happily uploading my iTunes library to the Time Capsule, which the Mac is able to access. Yay!!!
Thankfully what my friend in Manchester suggested does not appear to be true, as I've already migrated some files from the PC to the Time Capsule to the Mac with no problems, including Word, JPG and MP3 files.

  • Can't connect to pc to transfer files

I've gotten to the part where you put our username/domain and password in but not sure if that is the PC's usn/psw or mine that i use to sign into my mac? I've tried both but still no luck. It won't let me connect to transfer my files to the mac. Any suggestions on trying to connect to the network?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Here's one way you can approach this:
On the PC right click on the C: hard drive and then click the Sharing Tab, in the lower box check 'Share this folder on the network' and 'Allow network users to change my files' - if you don't want it to appear on the Mac Desktop as HDD (C:) give it another name. Close the panel.
On the Mac open System Preferences/Sharing and check 'File Sharing' then hit the Options button and check the third box "Share files and folders using SMB (Samba) Windows then add at least one username/account there which has read/write access to your hard drive (usually your own) then click 'Done' and close the Sharing panel.
Lastly on your Mac Desktop go to the top menu bar and select Go/Connect to server and in the pop up window that appears enter smb://nameofPC and hit connect - often the first time you will see a username/password dialogue appear and in this you enter a username/account on the PC
If all goes well you will then see the C: icon on your Desktop and be able to open/browse and copy files across from the PC to the Mac, permissions depending you will be able to write to most folders on the PC from the Mac but not everything.
To speed things up next time drag the PC hard drive icon that's now on your Desktop into your Favourites folder - then all you need do next time is double-click on that to open.
It's also possible to access the Mac from the PC by using CTRL E to bring up Explorer then Network Connections then Windows Local Network and the Mac 'should' appear for you to login. I've found it best to have Workgroup set to 'local' on both Mac and PC for this to work right however.

  • VLAN : Cannot transfer files switch 3500XL

    Hello,
i have configured VLAN's on my switch(802.1q ) with a linux machine as a router.and i cannot transfer files through SCP or FTP from nodes. It pings but is not able to transfer files.can u please expain ? the network cards on my linux machine are intel pro 100

If you can ping through the linux router from one VLAN to another then this would suggest that routing is working correctly.
I would check whether the Linux machine is using IP chains or similar which i believe is software that provides a firewall function and could potentially be blocking various ports.
How many VLANs are you routing between, the reason i ask is that you mentioned 802.1q which is used for trunking VLANs over a single link. How does this fit in with Linux as i wouldn't have thought a Linux machine can differentiate between 802.1q and non 802.1q frames.

  • Error code -51 when I attempt to transfer files from Mac to PC over network

I just upgraded to Mavericks - I saw some threads that people are having the same problem. When I attempt to transfer files from my Windows 7 PC to my Mac laptop, it freezes, then I get an error code -51. No, it's not firewall, and no it's not sharing permissions in the PC. Help!!

Same here as well. MacBook Pro 13" laptop with OSX 10.9. Can transfer small files (e.g. Mp3s, MS Word Docs, PDFs etc) on the network to a server running Windows 2008 R2 server eg MP3 files....but transfering larger files eg TV shows or films produces a failure after about 1.5MB and I get the following error message:
"...The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -51)...."
I previously had a MacBook Air laptop with OSX 10.8 and did not have this problem at all. Also currently have a Mac Mini with OX 10.6 and that machice continues to play just fine with the same server.
So the issue must most likely be a problem specific to OSX 10.9...

  • How can I transfer files from one user to another user?

    I have a Macbook Air with 10.9.5.
I have two admin users.  I want to transfer all the files from User A to User B's profile so that I can get rid of User A and just use User B from now on.  So far I can access the files if I change sharing permissions but the files are not under the root User B's folder still.   Any ideas on how to do this?  I also have greyed out folders when I created User B in the root directory.
Root folder /UserA/  includes all the usual folder links like desktop, documents, etc,  including some created one for example "myoldphotos".   When i created UserB/ it has all the desktop, documents, etc folders (but with nothing in them since it's new) but also the myoldphotos folder, except it's greyed out and I can't do anything with it at all or open it or anything. it's just there?

Thank you, that worked to transfer files.  After I move it into my normal home folder, can I delete it from the Shared folder?
Also if anyone has any ideas on the greyed out folders I would be thankful.  For example I moved the 'myoldphotos' folder from users/UserA to users/Shared then from there to users/UserB  and it worked.  HOWEVER, the greyed out mysterious folder is still there and i can't do anything about it.  It also affected my new copied folder, changing the name from myoldphotos to "myoldphotos 2"  like as if there IS a folder there with the same name already.   I can't click on the greyed out folder to open it or anything.
