Portrait mode format for photos in iPhoto books?

Attenton Apple Execs (Jonathan Ive in particular) - How about creating at least ONE Book format that incorporates portrait mode (vertical) photos well?  This question was put out to Apple in discussions in 2010 and archived.  In 2014 - still no such format!
Where is Apple's "user experience" crew when we need them?
You guys, with iPhones and iPads, have moved the world to a much more portrait mode still and video orientation.
Can we please, please, please .... have an accomodating Book Format in iPhoto? I know you are really proud of the face recognition and other sophisticated featurs in recent editions of iPhoto, but we poor users are still without a basic book capability.
Ideally, all the existing formats could be expanded with a few pages to accomodate vertical images better.
Wow us....with "one more thing!"

Sorry to inform you but Jonathan Ive is not here - no Apple exects are here. In face Apple is not here. As you are aware this is totally a user to user assistance forum manned only by volenteer users
If you want to contact Apple use the contact us link at the bottom of every page of these forums - or the iPhoto menu ==> Provide iPhoto feedback

  • Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos??

Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos?

This is book # 13 and I've not encountered this problem before. I am dragging photos into the sourse pane but they are not imported. I have other books w/ over 700  pics (not all used) but this has only 300+ so far. I've copied the book to a pdf and it looks as if I'll have to redo it unless there's another solution.

  • Is there a maximum number of photos in an album for making an iPhoto book?

is there a maximum number of photos that you can upload into an iPhoto book from an album?
trying to make a book and only some of the photos from my album are there

    No
There is a maximum numb of pages in a book (100 pages) and the larges page I am aware of holds 16 photos so the maximun number of photos you could have in a book would be 1600

  • Size of digital images for reproduction in iPhoto Books

I have been reading comments in this forum and have become confused reading about image size in iphoto books. I have some very old scanned photos saved in tiff format files on an external hard-drive and want to make a book using them. I don't want to compromise the altered quality of these old photos since so many are over 100 years old and were in poor condition when scanned. I corrected them as best I could using Photoshop and saved them them in tiff form in storage. Can I leave them as a tiff (cropped to 4:3ratio) when I import them to iPhoto or do I have to convert them to j-pegs BEFORE importing? I realize that these files are larger than a j-peg of the same photo so the entire 100 page book is quite large. If so will j-peg format make these look worse in the printing? iphoto's instructions skip over this detail. Could some please help me with an answer to this?

    Dognut:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use the tiffs. There won't be a problem. The only restriction is Apple can't use CMYK color. I've always used jpgs without a problem. As long as the number of pixels are high you should get good results. The downside to using tiffs is that iPhoto will copy them into the library and will take up a lot of disk space. But you can always delete them from iPhoto when you've ordered and received your book to free up disk space.

  • Fonts for photo albums - iphoto 09

I'm using ilife 09 to make a hardcover photo book. I want to use the Hiragino Minco Pro font that was available in the previous version of iphoto on the cover, flaps and intro page. It didn't show up in settings menu so I copied and pasted it from a previous photo book onto these pages in the new book. It looks fine on the page and the font shows up in settings menu. But there is an exclamation point in red triangle in the subhead on cover it says type doesn't fit. The settings tool won't let me change the size, and actually won't let me change the font (I chose 6 pt and it still says it won't fit).
Question: Because I copied and pasted it will it actually show up correctly when book is printed at Apple? Since the font doesn't change on the page when I change it in the settings tool, it seems like something isn't connecting correctly.
Question: What does the W3 and W4 mean next to the font name in Settings. I only see it next to the Hiragino Minco Pro (where as Helvetica has choices of Regular, ital, etc.)
Question: Now that ilife 11 is out, will I be able to publish this new book without having to upgrade? If so, I might have more font problems if Apple discontinues some of the 09 fonts.
    Thanks!

The triangle indicates that there is some overflow of text in the text box. Does all the text appear in the text box? If it does then maybe there's a return or some spaces that are causing the overflow.
If you can't reduce the size so that the text fits the order will probably be cancelled. You can and should check the book before ordering by right-clicking on the background of the All Pages view and select Preview Book:
Then save the preview as a PDF file. This will give you the same PDF file that is sent to Apple for printing. If the text displays correctly there then it will print.
If you are unable to get the font to fit you may have to resort to creating a custom page. That will require, however, using an image editor that can handle layers:
Some Image Editors that support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $45
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    Portraits and Prints - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
Pages from the iWork suite of applications can be used also.

  • "Missing" photos in IPhoto Book

I have a number of IPhoto books I've made over the years and when I go back to them in my ILibrary, there are a number of gray spots where photos should be. The gray spots only appear in the large image of the book, not in the strip above. When I double check my library the photo is still there. What do the gray spots mean?
    Lisa

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Don't use all caps as it's hard to read and tantamount to shouting in the forum.
What do you mean by gray spots? Are you referring to blank frames in the book? The fact that the thumbnails are showing seems to indicate that the library is damaged.
Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.
    Fix #2
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photos into iPhoto book has a grid on it?

Wow, what's this? I've made a couple dozen iPhoto books already, but am coming up with something weird - a white grid covers some of the photos, and prints as such. Hm. They vary, but the average photo is a DVD size constrained, average around 7MB. Some have a white grid (looks like a spiderweb) then some have a black grid. Gets exciting when you open and close the photos because the "web" goes from pale to bright!
    Thanks,
    argh

Hi S. Katia - you would have a much better chance of receiving knowledgeable advice by asking this in the iPhoto forum.

  • ITunes 'Match' like for photos an iPhoto on the cloud and Preview

iTunes ‘Match’ like for photos. 250.000 photos ($250 1 year).
It's all I need… 250.000 thumbnails on my iPad and the original on the iClod… like iTunes Match. Thanks.
I have icloud 55 GB. Preview on Mac accept my photos, but if my Mac got stolen I lose my photos on iCloud too? Preview keep the original on the 'invisible' Library, so, make noo sense, I need the local storage.
Photo Strream downgrade the resolution and it's limited in many ways. I hate Dropbox, Picasa e cia. I need an Apple service.

    Hello David,
It sounds like you have an Aperture album that you are trying to transfer to the album section of the Photos app on your iPad.  I recommend following these steps to sync the Aperture album over to your iPad:
To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
    Select "Sync Photos from."
Choose the application you want to sync photos from in the pop up menu.
Choose to sync all photos or selected photos. Select "Include videos" to sync videos stored with your photo library.
    Click Apply.

  • Desparte for help with Iphoto Book:

My book will sometimes load almost the the end then just stop - I have even tried putting my whole library on another computer and it still wont load.
I have been working on 3 books for several months and have successfully done over 12 books in the past.
    Can anyone help me!!

I have exactly the same problem. I spoke at length with Apple tech people and worked through all their suggestions, including the safe mode one. No luck. Finally they told me my upload speed was too slow. My IP says they cannot provide anything faster. Had some success uploading a book through the 4G network using a hotspot via the cellphone, which provided a faster upload speed, and managed to get one book through. But now even with the faster upload speed it's not working again. This seems ridiculous given that on earlier version of iPhoto I've had no trouble whatsoever - it's just been with the most iPhoto 11 that the problem has arisen. I'm at my wits end.

  • What is the best file format for photos?

    Greetings.
I am going to be importing some photos into FCE 3.5.1 to do some effects and motion. What is the prefered file format form Photoshop for FCE? TIFF, JPEG, and PS format all import, but I'm just wondering if one is prefered over the other.
My images will be pretty big, 3000 pxels x xxx at 72dpi, so I can move in and out, and maybe pan.
    Thanks.
    Jonathan

PNG, PSD. Don't make the image larger than you need to.

  • WHERE is Metadata stored for photos in iPhoto?

I need to find out WHERE all the information I have entered for various photos in my 3000+ photo collection is physically stored.
So, when I bring up a photo, from within iPhoto, and enter a Title, date, time, Comments, etc. WHERE does iPhoto actually put that information? More importantly, I need to BACK-UP that data, so need to know where it's stored to do that.
I just moved a folder within the iPhoto Library folder ( A B-I-G 'No-No' obviousely! ) and BOOM... all my photos were GONE, along with MONTHS worth of time it took me to organize, label and notate information on every single photo in my library - most were scanned in from those boxes of photos we all have under our beds, etc. and they contained only the date I brought them into iPhoto. Since I have photos going back to the mid-eighteen hundreds, dates in 2003 or 2005 don't quite hack it! Now I'm starting from scratch to do it all again, and want to make SURE I am able to back-up that data this time.
    Thansk...

    Vic:
For future reference there are a couple of Applescripts for copying the EXIF information from iPhoto to a file and/or back to iPhoto - http://scriptbuilders.net/files/iphotoiptckeywordimportexportutilities1.0.html.
iPhoto does not do a great job in keeping metadata/EXIF info tied to the files except within iPhoto itself and, as you've experienced, that can be fragile. Image management applications like iView MediaPro write nearly all annotations directly back to the file itself.

  • ITunes backup for photos vs. iPhoto

When backing up photos from my iPhone, will iTunes automatically do this, or should I just transfer them to iPhoto?
    Cheers!

    Hi flag8r77,
I would always import them to iPhoto. There you can organize, edit  and set locations/faces more easily. The Albums you create you can then sync back on your iPhone for better overview. Further more your iTunes backup will only store the current state of images. in iPhoto you can store them far back.
    Hope this helped

  • How to adjust background format for photos from my albums iOs7

With previous IOs version , when using photos from my albums to make background image , format would have fit itself  . But with iOs7  , it stays at the photo's original format and doesn't adjust to screen size .

To answer the question in the subject line :
    You don't.
Do not think iWeb. Do not think MobileMe. Do not think domainname. It confuses the brain.
Simply put the desired slideshow folder from the examples on the server.
    The result is this :
    http://web.me.com/wyodor/Standard/
Open the index.html file in a HTML editor of your choice and remove the code with text you do not want displayed. And change the name of the images.
And now we come to iWeb.
Add a HTML snippet to a page and paste an <iframe> to display the slideshow :
    <iframe src="../../../Standard/" width="950" height="200" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Change the width and height numbers to make the slideshow fit the snippet.
