Portrait mode is all messed up

Hi,
I have landscape mode working perfectly.
I would say insert page from chapter (using a template from apps store).
And then, insert pages from pages for the text for each chapter.
But, in portrait mode is shows all the photos I deleted from the template and no text to the chapters.
Yikes! Can you tell me what I did wrong?
Many, many thanks,
Elaine

Layout in landscape.
Edit content in portrait.
Check in both.
Disable share in portrait via Inspector if you intend to support landscape only.
When deleting items, be sure to use the thumbnail pop-up menu to apply changes, etc.

As there is a lock symbol at the top of the screen then you have rotation lock on, and as the side switch is controlling notification mute, then you should be able to lock/unlock the rotation via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Shot videos ONLY in landscape. For photos choose what's you like. Maybe you have to rotate photos on PC. What's your operating system?

  • Problems viewing all page content in portrait mode

Have just tried authoring first iBook using templates and when viewed in portrait mode I get titles of pages but content is missing so have to go to landscape mode.
There seems to no way of starting at front of book as it opens automatically at page one  and only scrolls forward. To ensure continuity and visuals do I author in portrait or landscape mode.

Layout in landscape....edit in portrait. Verify in both.
Note some elements have a 'share in portrait' attribute you can set in the Inspector.

  • Anybody know how to get second monitor to display portrait mode on new quad

    Hi all,
I have a G5 quad with a 6600 video card and 2 monitors. 1 is a sony 24" and the other a dell 20". I have them both succesfully running in expanded desktop mode, but I would like to set up my dell to display in portrait mode. I can set it up on the dell monitor, but when the nvidea software takes control, I am back in landscape.
anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks, Neil

The Nvidea video cards don't support rotate. You need an ATI video card.

  • Poor performance of 6630M in portrait mode

I've upgraded my Mac Mini 2009 with Nvidia 9400 to Mac Mini 2011 with Radeon 6630M.
Everything is fine in the landscape display mode, however I normally have it plugged to Dell 24" display in portrait mode (using the bundled HDMI-DVI adapter).
When in portrait mode (90 degrees rotation selected in the display preferences), graphics are choppy. I can notice it in games (Zen Pinball 2, Pinball Arcade) and even when scrolling pages in Chrome. Games are not playable at all, flickering and jitter when scrolling in Chrome is annoying.
It was not a problem on Mac Mini 2009, so I gues it's a bug in the video driver for Radeon 6630M. I'm running OS X 10.8 with all the updates installed.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'll also submit feedback to Apple as Portrait mode is a little choppy for me on my Mid-2010 Mac Mini with Nvidia Geforce 320M Graphics. Hopefully it's just an OS / driver issue running Mountain Lion 10.8.3.
Please, whoever has similar issues, please submit feedback to Apple. Thanks!

    Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help and advise me on a problem
i have a page created in ibooks author
it contains graphics, text and text boxes with a picture frame and a gradient fill inside; however when I switch from landscape mode to portrait mode the text box I created that needs to be after all the text created is either above the text or hidden behind a scrollable blue line with  up and down arrows.
this is really anoying me and can't see how to fix the problem
    Can you help and advise
    Thanks for your time

    Andy:
Here's the deal - often enough, a certain layout subtlety (defined as 'do this to do that') is found to be predicated on one or more specific templates.
In order to debug an issue, that if solved relies on a template that the book in question doesn't use, the process can mean that there is no direct path towards xyz solution...only that the issue is spotlighted.
This can mean the issue is compounded by the original choice of template, which in turns mean that the solution is to change templates and most likely start over.
I don't know for a fact that your issue would be rectified by changing templates, and I'm not up for doing all the work to (a) find the proper template and (b) throughly refit your content to test the voracity of that template's ability to solve this one issue, sorry. Keep in mind there may be a very direct/simple solution with your book as-is...only by debugging it would you know

  • Print SSRS Server Report in landscape or portrait mode directly(without report viewer control)

    Hello,
    .Net 4.0\VS2010\C#\ssrs 2008 on Sql Server 2008R2
Having a problem printing a Server report while controlling the orientation and the size of the emf rendered to the physical page.
I have the report cutting off in both landscape and portrait modes. I'm passing the following deviceinfo to the render function:
    string DeviceInfo =
    @"<DeviceInfo>
    <OutputFormat>EMF</OutputFormat>
    <PageWidth>8.5in</PageWidth>
    <PageHeight>11in</PageHeight>
    <MarginTop>0.25in</MarginTop>
    <MarginLeft>0.25in</MarginLeft>
    <MarginRight>0.25in</MarginRight>
    <MarginBottom>0.25in</MarginBottom>
    </DeviceInfo>";
    return DeviceInfo;
    string mimeType;            string fileExtension;            Stream pageStream = serverReport.Render("IMAGE",  deviceInfo, firstPageParameters, out mimeType, out fileExtension);
No other settings seem to have an affect on controlling the output to printer or pdf.  i.e. The deviceinfo params fed to server report's render function are all you get.  I think my original code comes from an MSDN or CodeProject example. I'm not
    inventing anything new here.
Links below indicate similar problems but they are looking at the issue from just landscape mode. Seems like I ought to be able to squash or expand the image to whatever size I specify, separate from the 'page' size.  Please let me know what i need
to know to make these reports print without bleeding onto 2 pages or slicing off the right side of the document image.

Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
I am not expert in SSRS. You should get better response in SQL Server > SQL
Server Reporting Services, Power View forum.
After take a look at the similar threads links as you posted above.
The conclusion is we needn’t tell the program o this report is landscape not portrait. If the width is larger than the height, the report will be printed in landscape; otherwise, it will be printed in portrait.

  • Getting Portrait Mode prior to X11 startup and in SLIM

    Hi all,
I've been on Arch for about a week now and am having a fun time coding on it. I finally got an LCD stand that allows me to swivel my screen to portrait orientation so I suddenly have some great vertical real estate.
My current setup is Arch Linux -> SLIM -> XFCE4 with X11 configured to run on Intel drivers rather than the standard VESA one. XFCE allows me to rotate my desktop from a simple GUI application. After doing some research, it seems that this is being accomplished by using xrandr - a utility that ships with X.org, which means this rotation is only happening with the benefit of being in an X environment.
Before X boots up, the Linux terminal is outputting everything to the screen in regular landscape mode. I want to be able to work in portrait mode outside of an X environment (e.g. virtual terminals). I did some Googling and came across this:
    http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Document … /fbcon.txt
It seems that fbcon (frame buffer console) can run a console with the benefit of VGA-driven frame buffer -- which would include screen rotation. Is this something that can be easily configured (e.g. pop open VIM, add a few lines and reboot) or is it far more complex than I think (e.g. rebuilding the Kernel).
I also noticed SLIM starts up in landscape mode as well. I believe SLIM runs in X environment (correct me if I'm mistaken). It doesn't seem to be an option in SLIM to rotate, so I imagine I could have X start already rotated, in effect causing everything (SLIM, XFCE) to inherit the rotation property. I tried configuring things by creating a "10-monitor.conf" file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ according to this page:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … r_settings
...with the addition of these changes:
    Section "Screen"
    +Option "RandRRotation" "on"
    +Option "Rotate" "CCW"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Option "DRI" "false"
    Option "RandRRotation"
    Option "Rotate" "CCW"
    EndSection
    (ref: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=26747)
This did not do the trick for me and I'm still logging in by craning my neck... (just kidding; I swivel it back around).
I'm somewhat new to Linux so if I miss any details please let me know.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

UPDATE: Only solved one of my problems so far (getting virtual terminals to be in portrait mode) by modifying my grub bootlist:
    /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    title Arch Linux (portrait)
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/991f0c73-38a8-444e-b1a4-41105c7d609c ro fbcon=rotate:3,scrollback=2048k
    initrd /kernel26.img
I made a mistake in the previous post: uvesafb allows you to run the console in full resolution, fbcon rotation seems to be a separate matter.
Still no luck yet getting SLIM into portrait mode. I tried various things, but it seems that the X Option for "Rotate" is unsupported by the Intel video driver. I chopped out the Device/Monitor/Screen sections from the xorg.conf that is created when you run "Xorg -configure" and tossed that into /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf to no avail...

As you can see, the Intel chipset doesn't like those options so it seems I cannot set them statically using xorg.conf files.
However, dynamically applying the rotation using xrandr seems to work. For example, I can open up a terminal right now and type `xrandr -o [orientation]` and rotate my screen on the fly. I tried this approach too, seeing if I could sneak in a call to xrandr before SLIM starts up. I was not able to get anywhere with this... I tried calling xrandr in:
/root/.xinitrc   (I believe this runs when X logs into root)
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/ (scripts in this directory are supposed to be executed upon X startup)
None of this did the trick, SLIM still starts up in normal orientation. Has anyone here successfully rotated SLIM, or any login manager for that matter? I'm considering switching over to GDM to see if I have better luck (I believe GDM provides some form of pre-start configuration scripting), but would like to avoid moving to GDM if I can do this with SLIM.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

  • Trouble figuring out how to use Portrait mode.

I have a book that I have already contructed in paperback form and now I'm wanting to make it into an ibook using iBooks Author.  My book was originally done in an 8x10 format so I'd like to contruct it in portrait mode.  I would like to be able to make each page of my book to be the hight and width of the ipad sceen and no more.  I would then like to be able to side swipe with my fingers in order to go to the next page, all in portrait mode, much like you would see if you had a PDF file loaded into your bookshelf.
My book is picture and design heavy and I'd need the formatting of the page to stick to its original design or close to it. I know the ipad screen isn't 8x10 and Id obviously have to do some reconstruction to make it look right on using the ipads dementions.  For an example of the
The problem I'm running into with iBooks Author is it seems to be setup for landscape view only.  When I try to use Portrait view it gives me this endles well, isolating the top portion of the page for the chapter reference.  When I load it into my ipad, instead of being able to side swipe my fingers to change the page I have to just keep scrolling down.  What am I doing wrong?  How can I get it to work like a PDF would but actually be able to take advantage of all the iBook Author fatures like widgets, glossary, chapter selection, and such?  Here is an azample of a page from my book.  Is this type of book layout possible?

Thanks for the answer Ken. I'm going to try a different workaround. The global was too slow, and I think I'll break my subVI into two parts. I'll create a sub that has all the setup stuff in it, then embed the actual "check trigger status" loop in the main VI. The loop contains only 2 or 3 nodes. Too bad LabView works this way. I can see one reason it should, but another larger reason it shouldn't. Wishlist.... Oh, speaking of wishlist, I like the improvements that 6.0 has brought, but one thing still bugs me. There's no way to have LabView remember the place to look for files when it's first started. It defaults to "My Documents", which should be, as all LabView programers know "LabVIEW6\user.lib" (or whatever). Of course, once th
ere, LabView remembers for that session. Next time it's started, back to "My Documents" again. How 'bout fixing the "Options", "Path" settings so that it will actually remember the path set? Am I missing something here, or does it have anything to do with the fact that we're using Windows 98? My buddy's using NT, and his works the same. Is there a way around this? TIA, Rob.

  • Portrait Mode Lock / Orientation Sensor

If anyone from Apple is reading this, I have a suggestion for improving the iPhone user interface.
My wife and I are relatively new to our iPhones.  I frequently use the orientation sensor for photos, safari, email and other apps so that I can switch the display from landscape to portrait mode by tilting the phone to the appropriate orientation.  My wife saw me doing this and noted that her iPhone, identical to mine (4s) doesn't do that, and indeed, on examining it, it didn't.  I carefully went through the Settings dialog and the Settings|General dialog and any promising looking page below these and found nothing.  I assumed that the orientation sensor was broken, and we called up Verizon, from whom we bought our phones.
The (very helpful!) tech person at our local Verizon store had to look this one up, and it took him some time, but he finally located a software switch, accessible by double-tapping the home button - a "Portrait Mode Lock".
This is an OK location for such a control, along with a general volume control, but this switch should also be available from the Settings menu, along with brightness and other hardware-specific switches.  This is, after all a "hardware setting" and the Settings page is the logical place to look for it.  I would strongly suggest that whether or not this switch is left on the Phone Favorites line, it should be available from somewhere in the Settings page heirarchy.

No one from Apple is reading this forum, its just a user forum like you and I.
You can send them a feedback here:

  • Pages aren't published in Portrait mode

    I'm finding this quite confusing.
In the iBooks Author help, it says that Chapters, Sections and Pages are published in Portrait mode, but I can find no way of having Pages show up *unless* they are contained within a Section.  (I want my book to work in both Portrait and Landscape modes).
So, a Page that is immediately beneath a Chapter is not published in Portrait mode.  It's simply not there.  Switching orientation makes it show up.  I really don't understand the thinking behind this, but it raises the question of how I should be structuring my book in which I don't want to divide Chapters into Sections.  All I want is a heading (Chapter) and Pages within those Chapters.
Should I just forget using Chapters and use Sections instead?  What are the fundamental differences between the two?  Perhaps I should just make every single page a Section?
Lost ... but hoping for some guidance.

  • N8 HDMI only works in portrait mode, gets disconne...

Hi. Like the title states, my Nokia N8 HDMI works as expected in portrait mode but when I turn the phone sideways (like when I want to play Angry Birds) it immediately gets disconnected. Even the small "HDMI" logo in the top right corner disappears.
I initially thought it was because the connector was loose so I tried holding it firmly while turning the phone. Same results. Then I tried detach/reattach the cable in landscape mode - no response from the phone at all.
If I switch back to portrait mode the HDMI connection consistently and automatically gets restored without having to detach/reattach the cable.
Is this just a simple setting I need to change in the phone system, or is it a hardware defect? Any help you guys can provide will be very appreciated.

I don't have HDMI cable for my N8 but judging from a bot of googling i did, the thing should work for landscape HDMI. You may have a software problem of an issue with the accelerometer. Are you having issues with any other landscape apps?
You may have to get the phone re-flashed at a nokia care point.

  • Fixed layout ePub page turn not working in portrait mode

    Hello all,
First time poster here. I created a childrens book, full color ePub from the Apple 3.1 ePub template. Everything sems to work great in general.  But I wanted the book to be in portrait mode only to get the most out of the graphics. I have the package.opf file set for portrait mode, which shows just one page (correctly), but when turning pages the cool page turn animation does not work when testing on my iPhone5 and an iPad2.  Pages just slide left or right.  But when I change the opf to allow landscape mode, when testing on iDevices, it shows two pages at a time in any mode and the page turn effect works perfectly.  Any way to get the page turn animation to work on just a single page in Portrait mode? To add to it I have an ePub example book from a non-Apple publisher that defaults to single page portrait, and is mostly text (so I'm not sure if its fixed layout or not), and the single page portrait mode allows the page turn animation to work perfectly.
    Thanks all!
    EDL

The small caps are wrong in Source Sans Regular. This are not correct small caps . This seams to be missing in the font.
But in italic style you will find correct small caps. They only work in InDesign not in ePub.
And if you look in my images (first from InDesign, second from Radium - iBooks looks the same) you can see many difference between InDesign and ePub.
Note the word "pfiffig", the I at the beginning of "Igor" in second paragraph and the "a" in the italic paragraph.
    This is very frustrating!
