Portrait Orientation Lock

I have an iPod 4th Generation that is using the 5.1.1 iOS.
Somehow my viewing orientation got locked in portrait orientation. How do I unlock the portrait orientation?
I'm kind of new at this orientation stuff. I just know that when I want landscape view I just turn the iPod right or left & the screen adjusted before & now it isn't doing that.
Please help me I can't play some of my games because they need landscape view.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
john_r_l

double tap the home button and swipe the bottom of the screen that just popped up.  left to right you will see a button with a circular arrow.  if it is locked, you will see a lock in the middle, press it to unlock

  • Can you use portrait orientation lock without the control centre on ios7

With regards to the question above does anyone know another way to lock the screen orientation without the use of the control centre (e.g. like the old way of double clicking the home button). The reason being is that I have a case that fits the screen perfectly so my fingers cannot get to the bottom of the screen to access the control centre. Many thanks in advance

According to page 23 of the user manual http://support.apple.com/manuals/ the only way to change the orientation is with the control enter

  • My ipod touch won't turn sideways and I already have unlocked the portrait orientation lock. Any suggestions?

I Really need a solution, and if you could tell me the cause, that would be awesome too.

Try this... Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • My portrait orientation got locked   How do you unlock it

How do I unlock the portrait orientation

    I just figured this out:
To get rid of that annoying portrait orientation lock symbol of the padlock with the circle around!
    Double click the home button
Your home screen apps fade and there will be four icons along the bottom of the screen.
scroll left until you see the Portrait Orientation Lock symbol.
    Touch it
    Portrait orientation Unlocked!

  • Any other ways to turn orientation lock on/off?

The whole right side of my screen does not work, I need to turn the portrait orientation lock off so I can text using landscape mode. But because I cannot use the right side of my screen I cannot simply turn it off using the control center. Are there any other ways to turn the portrait orientation lock off?

If I reset the phone will the orientation lock turn off?, or is there a way I can do it through itunes?
    Thanks

  • IPhone 6/iOS 8 Portrait Rotation Lock

    Hey All,
Just got my iPhone 6 today, and the first thing I noticed was that the screen will not rotate. I tried the usual by going to the control center, but the Portrait Rotation Lock was already in a disabled state. I toggled on and then back off, still no luck. Tried powering down and back on, still no luck.
Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I have the same problem.  Portrait orientation lock is OFF and the screen will not rotate on ANYTHING.  I have a new iphone 6 so I don't know if it is a glitch in the phone or IOS 8.  But from reading the posts sound like its a problem with the new IOS.  Apple needs to get a fix out immediately as this will cause a lot of buzz on such an important feature not working.  Not to mention, how it is even possible for the new IOS and phone to be released with this being missed.

  • Portrait Mode Lock / Orientation Sensor

If anyone from Apple is reading this, I have a suggestion for improving the iPhone user interface.
My wife and I are relatively new to our iPhones.  I frequently use the orientation sensor for photos, safari, email and other apps so that I can switch the display from landscape to portrait mode by tilting the phone to the appropriate orientation.  My wife saw me doing this and noted that her iPhone, identical to mine (4s) doesn't do that, and indeed, on examining it, it didn't.  I carefully went through the Settings dialog and the Settings|General dialog and any promising looking page below these and found nothing.  I assumed that the orientation sensor was broken, and we called up Verizon, from whom we bought our phones.
The (very helpful!) tech person at our local Verizon store had to look this one up, and it took him some time, but he finally located a software switch, accessible by double-tapping the home button - a "Portrait Mode Lock".
This is an OK location for such a control, along with a general volume control, but this switch should also be available from the Settings menu, along with brightness and other hardware-specific switches.  This is, after all a "hardware setting" and the Settings page is the logical place to look for it.  I would strongly suggest that whether or not this switch is left on the Phone Favorites line, it should be available from somewhere in the Settings page heirarchy.

No one from Apple is reading this forum, its just a user forum like you and I.
You can send them a feedback here:

  • My iPod is locked in the portrait mode, I have the portrait orientation unlocked, I restore it twice but no help.

My iPod is locked in the portrait mode, I have the portrait orientation unlocked, I restore it twice but no help.

I'm surprised that the restore does not fix it, which leads me to think that one of two things is going on:
One, your acceleromter has malfunctioned. The only fix for this that I know of is to take it to a Genius Bar at an Apple Store.
Two, you might not be holding the iPod Touch properly to make orientation work. You have to hold it vertically when you turn it if you want the orientation to change. The iPod should not be parallel to the ground, but perpendicular.
Three, you may misunderstand how to manage the orientation function. When you bring up the running apps tray at the bottom, do you see the lock in the middle of the circular arrow? If you do, the orientation is still locked. tap it to make the lock disappear, and then open an app and see if it changes orientation
See the two images below for locked and unlocked statuses.

If this program will not get the iPod out of recovery mode your data should be safe.

  • IPhone 4 (with iOS 5.0) won't go to Landscape while taking photos/videos EVEN IF PORTRAIT ORIENTATION SETTING IS NOT LOCKED! However, watching YouTube/Videos is stuck on LANDSCAPE!

My iPhone 4 (with iOS 5.0) won't go to Landscape while taking photos/videos EVEN IF PORTRAIT ORIENTATION SETTING IS NOT LOCKED! However, watching YouTube/Videos is stuck on LANDSCAPE!
I was getting this even on iOS 4.0, but under this OS, I can restart the phone, and in some cases, this problem goes away.
However, under iOS 5, it simply wouldn't go to LANDSCAPE. Photos is not a worry, since I can just rotate this, but videos is now stuck on Portrait!
Again, the PORTRAIT ORIENTATION SETTING is NOT LOCKED! But it still wouldn't go to Landscape.
Is this some sort of a "gyroscope" problem??
    O

Sorry, but you are mistaken about both observations.
You CAN DEFINITELY take photos in Landscape and you CAN DEFINITELY watch YouTube videos in PORTRAIT (just tried it now using my sister's working iPhone).
Also, my CALCULATOR does not go to LANDSCAPE (i.e. from normal to Scientific) automatically.
So I still think it could be a gyroscope problem...but I'm not 100% sure.

  • IPad air 2 is locked in portrait orientation, cannot unlock

BBrad new iPad air2 is locked in portrait orientation, it will not unlock therefore I cannot change to landscape orientation

If there isn't a lock icon next to the battery level indicator at the top right of the iPad's screen then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If there is a lock icon then you lock/unlock rotation via its icon in Control Centre : swipe/drag up from the bottom edge of the iPad's screen, if the lock icon is white then rotation lock is 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'

  • The orientation messed up on ipad air2, orientation lock is off

The orientation is fixed the wrong way on my ipad air2, the orientation lock is off, turning the screen does nothing. Turning the orientation lock on will make the screen flip rightside up and then turn upside down immediately. It stays in portrait mode at all times.
