Portrait orientation not recognised in Older iDVD project

I have posted some of these symptoms in various places, but I have had so many issues with this upgrade that I haven't had the time to thoroughly address each on in detail.
I upgraded ti iLife06 over the weekend and now an iDVD project that I started in iDVD 5 is significantly "messed up".
Firstly, it cannot find the images in the new iPhoto Library's new paradigm for folder management. So I have to locate these manually. I have tried to point iDVD to both the "Modified" iPhoto Library folder and the "Originals". Not sure which is correct. (I know that some have advised duplicating your old iPhoto library and pointing iDVD 6 to the "old" version)
Second, after manually locating all of the photos included in the iDVD project, iDVD does not seem to recognise that some of the photos are Portrait orientation. These were automatically rotated by my camera and imported into iPhoto accordingly.
Does anyone have an idea why iDVD 6 cannot do this AND how to fix it?
Thanks,
J.E. Flynn

  • IDVD '08 suddenly won't open older iDVD projects

All of a sudden, my iDVD projects created with iDVD 06 will not open in iDVD '08.
No changes to the system or software, currently running iDVD 7.0.2.
I've copied older iDVD projects from an external HD to my desktop and tried to open them with iDVD, and iDVD goes unresponsive after about 5 minutes. I've tried opening them directly from the external HD and still no joy.
Ownership and permissions don't seem to be a problem, and the files are not "project locked".
One week ago, this process was working like a charm. (Occasional "project locked" issues, but that's a trivial fix) Now, with absolutely no SW updates or anything, it's hanging up on me.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you solved it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Unable to open older iDVD projects

    Hi,
I have iDVD, version 7.1.2, and I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini.
I have older iDVD projects that have were created on an older version of iDVD I had on my PowerBook G4 laptop.
When I try to open the older projects, I selec them in the Open dialog, but iDVD then presents the "Create a new project" dialog.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, was there a solution to this problem?
    Sincerely,
    Jaime

Welcome to the discussions, Edgar. I've see version 3 files that wouldn't open in 5 without first passing thru 4 or 4.5 - any chance you've got an earlier version around? If not, zip the file up and email it to me and I'll try to pass it thru 4 before going to 5 and saving it. Email's in profile.

  • IDVD6 and iPhoto6 installation rendered older iDVD projects useless

Had some iDVD5 projects in progress and then installed iLife6. Can't open the older iDVD projects with iDVD6, all iPhotos are missing and the system does not seem to be able to find them again. This is because the file stucture of iPhoto6 is different from the one in iPhoto5.
Worse, iDVD6 eventually hangs up and needs to be force-quit.
After this happens, iDVD6 always tries to open the old project, hangs up, etc. Deleting the preference file is the only option to get to iDVD6 again.
Does anybody have a solution? How can I use my older iDVD projects? How can I help iDVD6 to find the missing iPhoto files?

Did you backup your iPhoto Library before upgrading?
If so, you can do some renaming to get iDVD to point to the 'old' iPhoto Library that has the structure that iDVD needs to access it. I am sorry that I cannot get the exact instructions to you right now...look in iPhoto for posts addressing this. The poster Old Toad has specific directions...he is one of iPhoto's gurus...and you will probably be able to get your photos into iDVD again.
See if this helps at all:

  • Iphone 5s portrait orientation not working

    Hello,
I have a new iphone 5s 64gb , suddenly the portrait orientation not working probably.
I keep it unlock but if I open the  camera or safari, the screen will be landscape.
And when I'm typing anywhere without shaking the phone, I recieve " undo typing" message.
    Please help me ,,,
I checked the software it is 7.1.1
    I reset all settings.

    Hello demontejames,
It may help to gently clean the sensor. Additionally, the following article provides steps that can help resolve issues with Touch ID.
    Resolving issues with Touch ID
Verify that you are using the latest version of iOS.
Ensure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Note: Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
If you are using a protective case or screen protector, it must leave the Home button and the surrounding ring completely unobscured. If it doesn't, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
Tap Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID and verify that:
iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is enabled.
One or more fingerprints have been enrolled.
If one finger isn't working, tap Edit in Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID > Edit to delete and then reenroll the finger.
If that finger still isn't working, try enrolling a different finger.
If you are unable to enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone 5s to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for further assistance.

  • Macs and aiff files not recognised by older hi fi.?

I have burnt audio cds using external burner(itunes 8).They are on the cd as it plays in the mac but will not play on our cd player.Iread something online about macs and aiff files not recognised by older hi fi.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AudioInterchange_FileFormat
    any help please

    Several possible issues.
    1) Did you burn the CD as an audio format CD or did you just burn AIFF files to a CD as a data CD? CD players require an audio format CD, not just AIFF files burned to a CD as AIFF files.
    2) Older CD players can have problems reading burned CDs. Sometimes using a different brand CD, a longer burn time (slower burn speed) can help, but sometimes you just have to buy a newer player. CD-RW can present big problems unless it is specified as supported.

  • Not able to archive iDVD project

I cannot get iDVD to archive my project. I get the error message "there was an error while saving the project". I found a couple of discussions on this very error message, both led to insufficient disc storage. This doesn't seem to be an issue in my case and I am unable to figure out what the issue is. I have burned the project first to a disc image and from there to 2 DVDs, both without a problem. I want to archive the project in case I want to change to wide screen formating in the future. OK here's the low-down. The project info window gives the size of the project as 2.24 GB and the available space on my HD as 283.9 GB, when I attempt to archive, the drop down window gives the size as 7.543 GB. Color me ignorant, and you can use dark shades when it comes to this stuff, but isn't that plenty of room? And what's up with discrepancy in project size? The primary "asset" is an iMovie that weighs in at 8.17 GB prior to being exported to iDVD and consists of still photos out of iPhoto with transitions and other edits all rendered in iMovie, so no permission issues I can ascertain. Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks F Shippey… I am attempting to save the archive to my internal HD. I attempted to save to an external drive that is formated for Mac OSX to see if that made a difference but came to the same conclusion, the same error message. Per one of the discussions referenced in my original post, I checked the cable to the exterior drive, it is an OSB cable, not the preferred Firewire, but is that really significant? Both drives have plenty of space left if seems to me. Is this the only line of inquiry there is to this issue? I did attempt to archive another iDVD project that I'd created a while ago to see what happened, but, no surprise, some of the assets couldn't be found and I couldn't retrieve them. I am leery of this project ending up the same way. T.T.

  • Can't burn new DVD on older iDVD project

I made an iDVD project with all our summer pics for the kids, and burned DVDs for them. I got the pics from folders I'd made in iPhoto. Now I'm trying to burn another DVD and get the following message: Errors in Project. There were errors during the project validation. These errors have to be fixed before burning the project."
I have no idea what the errors are - the only thing I've done since burning the original DVDs is delete the old folders in iPhoto. The pictures are all still in the library.
    Please help & thanks - J

Does this mean that I have to somehow "save" or "lock" the folders that I've used to create an iDVD project?
Just don't change any names or paths to images used in your active iDVD projects if you expect to reedit/reuse them.
Once you have finished a iDVD project, save the encoded project as a disk image file. The disk image file is not dependent on the orignal source content file name/location. This will enable you to burn additional copies to writable media in the future. You can NOT reedit a disk image file without using something like DVDxDV to convert the mpg-2 content to something that can be reused by iDVD in a new project.
If you have LOTS of external hard disk space, you can save your completed iDVD project as an iDVD Project Archive file. This will contain all the source material needed to reedit the project and as a result may be very large!

  • Not rendering before making iDVD project

OK, by reading the post, it appears that the culprit for bad photo quality when making a photo slideshow in iMovie then going to iDVD is the iMovie render process.
So, when I hit the iDVD button is it OK to not render and make go right to iDVD?

    Hello NH Sullivan,
You've opened up a can of worms here! The images, when import into iMovie, are rendered as movie files, thus greatly reducing the quality of images. It is not iDVD that distorts the images. The best solution is to create a slideshow in iPhoto, export it to Quicktime and then import the slideshow into iMovie for titles and music. - Perfect every time!
iPhoto won't let you create a one photo slideshow. If you only want one image add the same photo twice to an iPhoto slideshow. You will have drag the image out of iPhoto and change the name. Then drop it back into iPhoto. Turn the Ken Burns effect turn Off and no transition you'll have a 6-20 second still (static) movie of your image that you can export to Quicktime and add to you iMovie project for editing without any compramise in image quality. You can make the two image slideshow as long as you want and cut the length down iMovie. You'll need about 6 seconds minimum to add transitions in and out.
    Have fun!

  • Can't not open a previous iDVD project

I have wedding project that I completed in March. I wanted to burn another copy. I double clicked, I tried to open in iDVD. It quickly loads themes and then the window pops "create new project, open existing project, etc. Can anyone help on this matter? It was stored on the Lacie hardrive and then I put it on my desktop. It would not open.
    BC
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Do you have one of the DVDs that you burned in March?
If so, you can use that to burn another by making a Disk Image using Disk Utility:
    Creating a disk image
You can use Disk Utility to create a disk image of a disk, volume, or folder. You can use disk images to move files from one computer to another or to send to other people in email messages.
You can also use a disk image to burn a CD or DVD disc to send to other people or to back up the contents of your disk so that you can restore it if something happens to your information.
When you create a disk image you choose the format of the image:
If you want to continue adding files to the disk image after it's created, choose read/write.
If you don't need to add more files to the disk image, choose read-only.
If you don't need to add more files to the image and you want to conserve space, choose compressed . The disk image takes up only as much space as the data on the image.
If you want to use the disk image with a third-party application, choose CD/DVD master. The disk image contains a copy of all sectors of the disk, whether they're used or not, and copies them to other CDs or DVDs bit for bit.
You can also create a blank disk image so that you can copy files to it later. See "Creating a blank disk image" for more information.
Be sure the files you want to protect are in the same folder in the Finder.
To create a disk image from a disk or volume, select it in the list of disks and volumes.
Choose File > New then the type of image you want to create.
To create a disk image from a folder, choose “Disk Image from Folder.” Select the folder you want, then click Image.
To create a disk image from a disk or volume, choose "Disk Image from disk name."
Type a name for the image and choose where you want to save the image.
Choose one of the disk formats from the Image Format pop-up menu.
To require a password to access the contents of the image, choose "AES-128 (recommended)" from the Encryption pop-up menu.
    Click Save.
If you chose to use a password, enter it in the dialog that appears.
The name of the disk image is followed by the filename extension ".dmg."
Once you have created a disk image from your prior DVD, you can use that disk image to burn more copies of the DVD:

  • Moving new movie to old idvd project?

I have re-worked my iMovie project and shared it to iDvd.   I wanted to insert the new project to the older iDvd project since I alreadt created a menu.  But i can't find any way to do so.  Instead I tried to create the same menu in the new project but I'm stuck on the music, it won't let me play it.  It shows the length of the menu as 15 sec and the volume is at mute.  The audio symbol has no sound waves so I know it needs to be changed but when I click on the symbol nothing happens.  This is really screwy.  Any suggestions?

I doubt that they would be backward compatible...

  • IDVD project

I used IDVD for my photos and videos, but when I burn them in them the video and audio does not synchronize

Yes. The iDVD project file only references the media files used in it.  If you want to keep all of the files together with the iDVD project use the File ➙ Archive Project menu option.  That will copy all of the media files used in the project into the project package.
Then you can delete the original versions of the media files from the hard drive.
If saving disk space is your intent you won't be saving space with that method.

  • IDVD does not recognise chapters added in Quicktime Pro

I bought Quicktime Pro in order to add chapters to my DV file, using the instructions provided by Apple.
When I then inport this file in iDVD 08, the chapters are not recognised, and no submenu is created. When previewing the file in iDVD however, the chapters do appear. How can I get it to recognise the chapters and create the submenu? I don't want to have to buy additional software if possible.
    Thanks,

    Ziatron,
Thank you for that information. I agree about having the chapter markers. I'm desperately trying to figure out a way to do it without trashing all the work I've done so far.
I read in the discussion/support groups that when moving an iMovie 06 project to iDVD 08, you lose titles, still images and music. Is that true in your experience? If so -- I would essentially lose all my work since I make movies out of still photos with only a few video clips imposed here and there.
I've also read that you can put chapters in by exporting the iMovie08 project to Garbage Band. But -- then I read that you can lose your audio and that quality is severely impacted in iDVD using this approach.
If I use iMovie06, it appears that I will have to recreate my entire project, since it won't recognize my iMovie08 project (at least as far as I've been able to figure out). I've spent literally days and nights on it - selecting out of thousands of photos, doing Ken Burns effects, selecting music, etc.
I might test a small movie using iMovie HD 06 to see how it goes with photos -- and will use it in the future if that works.
I've spent the morning trying to find answers to the problem with the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. I just can't figure out why it's not working! It's great on the computer preview, but just doesn't work when burned or through disk image tests. Each time I burn (disk or image) it takes three hours -- so way frustrating.

  • Portrait Photo Orientation Not Processed

I am using iDVD for the first time. When dragging portrait oriented (vs. landscape) from iPhoto they insert into the slideshow without problem. When I encode and attemp to burn or create disc image, those photographs are omitted; leaving a blank, black screen when played.
I have not found any documentation to help.
Photographs are originally from Nikon D50, JPEG format, and display properly in iPhoto 6.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Matt,
Have you looked at Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html

  • I recovered my back up via a wired connection. now Time Machine does not recognise older back ups wirelessly and wants to do a first back up

I recovered a back up from my time machine via a wired connection after getting the 'white screen of death'. Now Time Machine does not recognise any back ups on the time machine when connected wirelessly and wants to do a first back up of the whole machine. How do I get my mac to recognise these older back ups? It connects to the wifi network the time machine creates fine, with the same name and password.

    I recommend the following.
    1. Reset the TC to factory.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Rename the TC to SMB standard.
That means short names.. 2-20 characters but less than 10 is excellent. eg TCGenx (use number for x that is actual generation of the TC)
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
    3. Ensure IPv6 is set to link-local..
Do the same thing for ethernet if that is used.
    4. Manually mount the TC disk in Finder.
Use Go in the top menu.. connect to server.
    Type in
AFP://TCname.local (where TCname is your new short name for the TC and local is default domain .. it helps using the domain I found).
You will then find the computer either can or cannot find the network resource.. if it fails something else is wrong with the actual network and you will need to fix that.
It will request the password if it is found.. password is public by default unless you changed it.. type in the password and check to keep it in your keychain.
    5. Delete current TM setup and redo it with the newly named TC.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If your backups cannot be found, try B6 again, now that you actually know that the disk has been properly discovered.
