Portrait page orientation - ibook author

How can I make protrait (vertical) orientaton template in iBook Author? For my design I dont need landscape (horisontal) orientation at all.

I am not sure if you are crerating a problem for yourself. I was about to post my concerns which are... in a photo book I used a blank page to avoid teh text flow formatting. Therefore its a double page and I used images in landscape.This book and two others have been returned for corrections. The Ticket advises.."Missing Content in Portrait mode"... which is simply because there is none.
BUT.. I have downloaded free books to find they are in landscape and Portrait mode is locked out.
In the Document Inspector..is an option to disable portrait mode.
I purchased ( before finding iBA ) an app called "Book Creator" its pretty basic compared to iBA.. but when I preview in iBooks.. it has flip pages and .. turned to portrait mode.. the book shows in a compressed way to fit the page in. There are no bells and whistles as there are in iBA.. and this little app does what - apparently - iBA cannot do..and ends up causing a great delay in getting books accepted.

I have a large image that I would like to span across 2 or possibly more pages in iBook Author. I know that it is possible as you can see it in the above mentioned E O Wilson's Life On Earth. However at the moment when I place an image in the position required it simply displays it on one of the pages. Any help with this issue would be greatfully recieved.

You'd need to split the image into two, then place the left 1/2 on one page and the right 1/2 on the next, side-by-side.

The main thing is...you have a way to move forward with your project.
If I may offer some tips, learn to customise the template to suit your project...its basically very easy..once you try.Again a search will bring up posts that address this topic.
IF you do create your own template..save it as a template before using it, that way you have a clean version every time.
When putting your book together save versions as you go along..later you can delete them.
If, as .. you seem to have found, you need to change things or want to try other options, you can copy whole chapters or sections and paste in a new order or into another version of your template. If you copy into a different template or book, the template basic also transfer to the template. Best way to discover what can be done is simply open a new book to play with! Add a few chapters and sections...include some pages..and just drag things around, copy and paste where you choose. Its just learning and after you delete the junk!..BTW, yes, you can have single pages before the first chapter...i.e. I open a copyright page into a chapter...that drag it to the top of the book tree, a blue line will appear ..drop it.

I don't think you can. If you need that effect, you should use ePub (that can be authored via Pages) not iBA.
I hope Apple give us the option in the future though.

Making a photographic book in landscape and portrait mode in iBooks author

Hello, I am making a photographic book with the iBooks author and I have a problem that I cannot resolve. The book is only with photos, without text and I am putting every photo on a whole page. I made around 15 pages in landscape orientation and now I want to make the same thing with the same photos in portrait, but I don't know how to arrange the photos to match when the ipad is flipped. The whole idea is that I want people to see different crops of the photos when they flip the iPad. I hope that you understood me and will eventually come up with solution... Really thanks!

If you are looking to reshape the graph based on whether the user has selected portrait or landscape mode, you could use a property node for your graph that executes in the same case as the print orientation, in which you reshape the graph using plotareasize or another property. I've attached an example of this.

Hi,
You just need to set up two Master Pages and then set the pagination for the design pages, as to which Master Page they relate to. There is an example here: http://assure.ly/ewrLMo. (have a look how the form uses both Master Pages).

Formatting lost importing Pages to iBooks Author

I having a problem importing a text file from Pages '09 to iBooks Author maintaining some formatting.
My Pages document has some text in bold and some in bold and italics in addition to normal text. Everything is in Arial font in Pages.
When I import the document into iBooks Author all the bold italic text shows up as normal text. About 75% of the bold only text shows up as bold and the rest as normal. When the bold words are in the middle of other text, the bold format is maintained. When the bold text is at the start of a line it shows up as bold or normal after the import.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check the styles in use on the Pages side versus the styles applied on the iBA side....
Test to see if they are reliably honored....

Inserting multimedial "footnotes" or similar pages in iBooks Author

we are about to develop an ibook with ibook author.
some information might be well known to the most of the users.
but to some not.
so we want to insert multimedial pages to explain certain facts. these facts should only be accessed if needed. i.e. they shouldn't appear if one marches straight through the application.
any idea how to put this in action?

As for templates, you have to start with one, whether it comes from Apple or a 3rd party. See the tip at that same page about a childrens' book example.

Import pages to ibook author

I am having trouble importing pages document to ibook author and formatting. They are both apple programs, seems like there would be a simple import document process. I have tried to import from ibook author and I get an error message that document isnt a word processing document? Anyone else have this problem and what was your outcome?

IN PAGES
Make all images INLINE and NOT FLOATING.
Use styes for at least headings one and two to eventually have a great TOC in ePub.

I was searching a lot on the internet to find a tutorial of how to make the pages flip? I can't believe that ibook author doesn't have this feature, if anyone know how to do that pleeeeease tell me.

Not possible with iBooksAuthor.
Each person has a choice, use the free Apple software with the facilities it offers and compatible third party widgets, or look for another product that meets their needs.
You can always use the feedback link in the help files to put your ideas a nd wish list to Apple

How to create pages in ibooks author

I just got feedback from iTunes saying that my book has no visible pages in portrait mode. I created the book in landscape but i wouldn't mind it being in both formats. When i go to portrait mode I can't find a way to add a page or see the pages I created. How do you make pages in portrait mode?

Layout your book in landscape orientation - edit contents in portrait.
Use the toolbar to toggle between them.
Be sure to preview your book on your iPad in both.
If for some reason you only want to support landscape, use the Inspector/Document tab and select/check [ √ Disable portrait orientation ]

TOC pages in iBook Author

Why are the Chapter titles not completely showing up in my TOC? I have customized the page, but there are no layers or anything to cover them up and they seem to drop off at different spots in each chapter.

In the O'Reilly book, it did not produce a hit for "insert page". I did find this, however:
"Text Boxes
Author fills up all the pages you insert with an array of images and text, but you can replace it all with whatever you want. If you want to add text where there used to be an image (or over some blank white space), you’ll need to insert a text box first."
Am I getting warmer?
I was trying to insert a page in front of some that was already established. Does this imply that I need to insert a tex box instead?
