Portraits and Spreads in a Folio

Is it possible, when building a folio for iPad to have single pages display in portrait and speads display in landscape? I've seen some magazines do this - Saveur for example, but have been unable to find any reference on how to do this with DPS.

Not easily and definitely not worth the effort, IMO.
You'd have to copy/paste the portrait layouts to a landscape page and
scale it there. There is zero benefit to this.

Creating a pdf document with both single pages and spreads

Hi, i'm not sure if this is possible, but basically i'd like to set up a document which allows me view the first three pages as single sheets and the remainder of the document as a booklet. The reason for this is I'm sending a cover letter, CV and then a booklet via email to apply for a job, and the booklet i have created has graphics which run accross the spread. I was hoping to lay the document as such:
1. cover letter
2. CV
3. Booklet front cover
4-5. booklet spread
6-7. booklet spread
8-9. booklet spread
I'm not too familiar with how to set this up (or if this is possible), could anyone point me in the right direction?

@Dave Merchant - The pages are true spreads, I've had a go at attempting to define the page type by the master but i can't seem to get it to split the document so that the first three pages remain single. I had a go at trying to create an entire new document with the pages in in order, but not sure how to insert single pages and spreads combined within the document.
@Test Screen Name - Do you know how i would be able to create such a document within indesign? i've had a look for some answers in the documentation but havent come accross anything yet (im on CS5). I had a go at combining the documents as the booklet and the single pages, but when i change the view options in acrobat to two page the first pages becomes a cover and the second and third are next to each other.

Creating addititional records from one record and spreading total accross

Can anyone help me with the following script logic scenario...
We have an account with $$ and wish to spread it accross the remaing months of another scenario.
For example, In 2012.Jan, we have an Actual amount = 10,000. Also, 2012.Jan Forecast = 5,000.
I need to take the difference -5,000 and push it into Forecast 2012.Feb, 2012.Mar, ... 2012.Dec and spread it evenly (-454.55).

Two caveats is that data must always reside in the ACTUAL category. Since the logic is looping through every record in the ACTUAL category. Also, all the other data must be at the same intersection or else the GET statement will be looking in the wrong place. i.e. DataSrc for the Actuals and Forecast has to be at the INPUT member or else you would need specify where the data is for forecast category in the GET statement.

Macro lens can be a wonderful portrait lens. I've used mostly macro lens for portrait. Like Skirball said, 100mm is long for indoor portrait.

Is the only way to zoom on iphone camera to pinch and spread the screen?

Hi there - was at a concert and was impossible to zoom the camera in on the stage using the whole finger spread action (as kept getting knocked etc) - is there a manual way (using buttons to do this) or am I stuck with this modern but not always pracitical method...or does anyone else have any tips for taking good photos at a concert using the iphone camera?

Stainless steel band on iPhone 4 rusting and spreading

A very good day to everyone looking at this post, since I got my iPhone 4 from marina bay sands on lunch day, I realize that I there is some rusting on the stainless steel band right above the black strip on the left side, i call singtel and ask them what can I do? They told me to go down to comm centre to have my phone checked out, but when I went there, they told me that they are not able to change the phone as it is only a rust and they they went on saying that they can change it if it's a hardware issue.
My first question is, is stainless steel suppose to rust.
My second questions is, rusting of stainless steel bend is not counted as hardware issue?

Single pages and spreads in alternate layouts

Hi, I am currently creating an alternate layout for a multipage InDesign document that already contains my print version inside the document. I have an understanding on how to create the alternate layout (for IPad: 1024px X 768px) yet when I create them the alternate Ipad layout appears as spreads. How can I make them into single pages while maintaining my spreads in my print layout.

You’re wasting your time, IMO. There’s simply no need to do this.
I would save it as a new file and work on that.
That said, I would encourage you to post in the InDesign EPUB forum.
BTW, what version of InDesign are you using?

Input template enter a Year value and spread values out across

my templte is as follows:
GL codes down the right ( Got that)
Company codes across the top (got that)
what I want to happen in the ensend - is the values being entered to be divided by 12 and sent to each month. basically the guy is going to enter a Year value and i want that value spread out across the year and accosciated with the correct company code. i cant get it to work.

If you have a spreadsheet and will be using ONLY Accounts on ROWS, and then assuming each COLUMN is a COMPANY code and Value for 1 12 month period, I would use Script logic for this process.
THe idea would be to send the 12 months to a datasrc intersection called 12MOALLOC, so that you store the original value and may always evaluate it or change it going forward, and send the value to a time meber such as 2010.INP, or Total entry time. I would use an EVDRE structure, to simplify the sheet. In the Script logic, I would define that when you see the datasrc and the year, using a property or direct variables, divide it by 12 and place in each of these 12 statements for each month or using a IF loop in the script. There are examples in the HELP that should give you some assisatnce to building this process out.

My "9-o-l-." keys stop working after startup, and spreading! ahh help?

My "9-O-L-." keys stop working after startup and my arrow keys too.
Sometimes when I start up the keys will work for a bit then one by one stop functioning and then randomly work every so often, then it seems to "spread" to the right shift key, and sometimes the "8-I-K-," keys.
Around the same time when this all began my Battery completely stopped working too, does this have anything to do with it? I've reset my PRAM and no luck.
I'm planning on replacing the keyboard, will that fix the problem? or is it something deeper?

I assume you've rebooted? Can you control the computer well enough to make a new account and log into it? Doubt this will fix it but maybe. The keyboard may need replacing but it might also be that the cable has worked loose so that some of the wires have disconnected but not all. Sounds like a trip or call to Apple is in order.

Flash CC to canvas and spreading code over several frames

I know about the relationship between flash and CreateJS, and I know that I could step away from the flash interface for A LOT of what I'm after and simply use it to create a nifty library of assets and have all my javascript as external files. That's not what I'm after (although using a text editor with proper syntax highlighting would be wonderful!). I wish to keep as much of my workflow as possible inside of the Adobe Flash CC interface.
The question comes in two parts, the second being a followup question:
1) Where I before used to save code in external as files, since now the external javascript gets created (combined) when publishing the flash project, I thought I'd better keep all my code inside of flash. Is this a mistake? I'm after ease of use and keeping my projects structured.
2) If I keep my code inside of flash I'd never nest it in movieclips. I'd keep it all on the main timeline strictly. Back in the golden flash days for decent but smaller apps I'd put general helper functions and imports on the first frame, then maybe some preloading graphics on frame 2 with minimal code for that. Finally "the app" on frame 3 with more specific code to manage the interface. This made everything load quickly and I could spread the app functionality naturally over a few frames to make it easier to visualise and manage. But exporting for canvas/javascript I can't even get code on one layer to recognise the functions on another. Do I really need to scope main timeline functions on creation to get it to work?
I'm really after basic advice on workflow and project structuring.

1) that's a strange question considering you prefaced it by saying you want to keep everything in flash. so yes, given that requirement (ie, you want to put everything, if possible, in flash), put all your code inside flash.
2) you need to scope everything. there's no problem (from flash/exportJS) spreading code over different frames/layers, if that's what you want to do. you probably just need to be more careful with your scoping if think code in one layer won't recognize functions in another layer. ie, in your top layer, use:

Can I record audio and spread it across several slides

I am having trouble recording audio at the same time I am
recording a software simulation. Must be like the chewing gum and
walking thing! I would like to record a few slides at a time and
then add the audio. I select Audio and record, but it only records
on the first slide...or whichever slide it happens to be on. I
thought I saw somewhere that I could choose to spread the audio
file across several slides if I choose. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible and how to do that?

After you make that long voiceover, have you tried clicking
Audio > Edit Timing... and adjusting the split bars where you
want the audio to break? If not, perhaps that's worth a shot.

Folio packaged on PC and moved to OSX: Folio Builder timing out.

Please help!
I have an Indesign file that we have created on a windows 8 PC running Indesign CC. We are now getting to the part that requires an apple computer to complete the final publishing steps so I packaged the file/resources on the PC and transferred the packed folder to a brand new IMac.
Again using Indesign CC, I have the file open on the mac and all the links etc look fine. When I run the folio builder however, it is BRUTALLY slow. On the pc which is a much slower computer it takes maybe 5-10 mins to run but on the new mac it will take an hour+ and when it finally drops the loading screen it seems to just time itself out and does not show that a folio has been uploaded. Its not timing out on the actual internet upload part, I'm familiar with that error but thats no problem, its timing out on the processing of the folio pngs I guess.
Notes: The file is very heavy on the dps effects, lots of slideshows, tons of object states, few videos, etc. Its using linked PS files for every object state so the actual packaged folder is a little over 3 GB. Obviously the compiled app itself is nowhere near that, but it IS a lot of data. Still, it works perfectly on the PC so something is wrong here. Brand new imac so its not a power issue. I have tested another mac as well so its not a bad computer. It WILL run the folio builder if I drop all but a few object states although it still takes far far longer to run than it does on the PC. I have tried changing the default image type to pdf instead of png and got the same issue.
Looking for any clues here.

If you’re creating a single edition app through CC, you’ll need to open InDesign and sign into Folio Builder with the same ID.
Choose the folio and then create app. The app is created from the folio in the cloud, not the InDesign files you installed.
If you have a pro or enterprise account, then yes, just open the app builder on the Mac and go to it.

Issues with rendering shadows and gradients in Android folios

Does anyone have experience or solutions as to how to fix a problem with gradient feathers, transparency and drop shadows in Android renditions/folios?
In the iPad rendition (1024x768), there are several scrollable frames, multi-state objects etc. with transparencies and gradients. When this is viewed on Android devices, whether the iPad rendition or Android specific renditions, it renders the transparencies, gradients and drop shadows as a white tone and isn't rich in any way.
Is this a known problem or is there a way around this?
