Ports 139 and 445 open

Did a scan of my router and ports 139 and 445 are open. I obviously don't want them to be but how do I close them?

I didn't think you were doing an internal scan. Port need to be opened on the inside of your network to allow the routers many services.
For security you should run the scan jlbjlb recommended.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Ports 139 and 445 dangerous on Mac OS X?

I have a Mac OS X iBook that is sharing files with Windows XP PC using SMB.
When I start up my Mac the Norton Firewall ask me whether or not I want ports 139 and 445 to connect.
I know that port 139 should not be open for a Windows computer because of the NetBIOS component.
Are ports 139 and 445 dangerous for a Mac?

  • Port scan results: unexpected open port on my wrt160nl

I ran NMap on the internet side of my wrt160nl, and was surprised to find port 55637 open. I have two ports forwarded and this open port is neither of those. I updated my router firmware and the open port moved to 63932, then after a reboot the open port moved back to 55637. I connected to that port with telnet, and it slammed shut as soon as I tried typing any ASCII key. I can see this open port from both sides of my router. A couple of questions: Could this be malware running on the router? Can anyone recommend any tools that might be able to determine what service is running on that port? Thanks! HeXwAvE

Nope didn't fix fix it. There still seems to be an internet facing port open on my router.
    1. I reset the router.
    2. Upgraded the firmware.
    3. Ran http://ping.eu/port-chk/
The only change is that no port 63932, rather than 55637 is open. I suspect http://ping.eu/port-chk/ only checks well-know ports below 2200. I re-ran nmap, this time using -sV, and it reports 63932 as "tcpwrapperd", Insecure.org says:
"tcpwrapped" refers to tcpwrapper, a host-based network access control program on Unix and Linux. When Nmap labels something tcpwrapped, it means that the behavior of the port is consistent with one that is protected by tcpwrapper. Specifically, it means that a full TCP handshake was completed, but the remote host closed the connection without receiving any data. It is important to note that tcpwrapper protects programs, not ports.
This means that a valid (not false-positive) tcpwrapped response indicates a real network service is available, but you are not on the list of hosts allowed to talk with it. When such a large number of ports are shown as tcpwrapped, it is unlikely that they represent real services, so the behavior probably means something else.
Which hosts? It looks like a back door or security vulnerabilty from where I'm standing. Scary.

  • How to close ports 139, 8290, and 10002

Is there anyway to close ports 139, 8290 and 10002 off a networked  HP 2820? I work at a university and my department has been asked to closethese ports.  is there any way to close these ports and still continue to print on both Mac and Windows platforms?
    thanks for any advice.

Well, in the router set up we can only open the port for any specific application. But there is no way in the router management page where we can close any specific ports for specific purpose.

  • How can I set up a WD My Cloud with my Airport Extreme - I can't get it to open ports 80 and 443?

For remote internet access to the WD My Cloud Mirror, I have been advised that ports 80 and 443 must be open in order to reach the WDMyCloudMirror.  My Motorola Gateway (Surfboard SB6141) is connected directly to my Airport Extreme (WAN port) which is in turn connected to the WDMyCloudMirror (all by ethernet cables).  I do not have FULL instructions on how to properly manually configure the Airport Extreme to open the ports.  I have tried an earlier posting which provides many of the steps, but not all of the required information is included (how to determinge the IP address to be assigned, etc.).  I did the best I could with the information given, but the test using "YouGetSignal" showed the ports as still closed and attemps to reach the WDMyCloudMirror by the internet failed as well (of course).  The WDMyCloudMirror has enough Apple "stuff" included in it (software, I suspect) that an Apple legal acceptance is required for its set-up, yet Western Digital Tecnical Support is unable (or unwilling?) to help with this aspect of its configuration required to work within the Airport Extreme environment.  I have returned the WD My Cloud Mirror to Amazon as "not able to work", but I have not given up the hope that I can eventually get the ports open so that I can get this cloud device, or one similar, to permit remote internet access.

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • I am having trouble viewing iStore. It appears as if its a Flash issue, as several minutes after logging in to iStore I get a non-flash page of iStore in my iTunes window. I have re-installed everything and tried opening all ports in router....any ideas?

I am having trouble viewing iStore. It appears as if its a Flash issue, as several minutes after logging in to iStore I get a non-flash page of iStore in my iTunes window. I have re-installed everything and tried opening all ports in router, and used msconfig to bring up each service individually to see if there is an effect.Flash and iTunes have been re-installed  ...any ideas?

I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

  • How to open ports 119 and 443 in my Mac?

I've been trying to use the UseNeXT software with my Mac with no success. I called their support and they told me I need to open the ports 119 and 443. I contact Apple support and they told me that is beyond their scope (???).
Can somebody help me with that? I tried to find it online, but all tutorials that i tried didn't work or are outdated.
    Thanks

    Hi Drew,
It probably depends on the router as to the method used to open the ports.
As I have said elsewhere in the thread the first 1024 ports are open in most router to allow things to work Out of the Box such as Mail (110, 25, 567, 569, 995, 996 and many more ) and web Browsing (port 80 mostly but secure site can use 443) FTP (21 and 22) to name some.
Port Forwarding is one way to open some of the ports for One IP (computer).
Most routers have  table for doing this and this can be limited as to the number of ports included.
This Linksys pic shows how to do it for some as it allows groups based on Start and end ports. However it restricts it to one IP
DMZ is a form of Extreme Port Forwarding that opens all 65535 ports to one IP (Computer)
In both the above cases other computers (IP addresses) are excluded from using the ports.
Port Triggering doe allow multiple computers to access the same Port but requires that you know the lead  - Trigger - port involved for each app.
It is limited by the table size for your particular router.
Same Router in Trigger ports for iChat 3
Most router come with UPnP nowadays.
It is an ON/Off setting that allows the apps on the computer to say which ports are needed and when.
On some you can reduce the time to live  and the Hop amounts.
The ports stay open from a period of normally 30 mins after non use.
    This can be changed.
It also tends to list the number of Hops (the number of devices beyond the UPnP device) that it can be heard.
    My Sky Hub
I have no other router on my network but I do sometimes use Internet Sharing between two computers hence the 2 Hops.
Every other device is only one Hop away from the the router.
There are concerns that the "Advertisement" is seen upstream (internet side) as well as device downstream.
The Concern is that this could be Up to your ISP and then down to the "next" IP end user on the particular router/server at the ISP end.
I have seen no evidence of this being the case.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to open ports 2078 and 2077

I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
I need it for a webdisk for my site but can't get these 2 porst to open so it can connect.
any help on how/where I go to do this?

I'm not entirely sure if you're using the Mac OS X Server or the Mac OS X client software version here, so the following covers both. Use of System Preferences implies client, though this is a server forum.
With Mac OS X Server 10.6, use the Server Admin tool to open up the ports you need. Launch Server Admin > select the target server > select Firewall > select Settings > select Services, open the ports, Save, etc.
With Mac OS X client 10.5.1 and later and with 10.6 and later, the firewall mechanisms and settings are application-based and not port-based, and you select the application to allow, and it can then use whatever ports it needs. System Preferences > Sharing > Advanced... and then the + to add the application. (Details: [ht1810|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1810])
If you're running this box as a network gateway, then things can get a little more complex; I'd tend to use an external firewall if that's an option.
If you're running this as the client for the disk services (as I might guess) and if you're accessing a remote web disk on a remote system via ports 2077 (SSL) and 2078, then I wouldn't usually expect to need to open these ports on the client; it's usually the remote server system and not the client that needs to open ports. (Are you getting any diagnostic messages here? Are you looking to serve disks out to other hosts via this protocol? If so, and if you're on Mac OS X Client here, then try adding the application that serves the disks to the list of applications known to the firewall.)
As an alternative, Apple servers and servers from other providers can run WebDAV disk services via port 80, which means that most any server that allows http web connections can also allow WebDAV connections. (WebDAV is a built-in feature of this Apache web server, so most any Apple Mac OS X box can serve disk space using http port 80 and WebDAV.)
The lower level approach to opening the ports is the ipfw tool, and the command line.

  • Total Newbee, How to open ports 5198 and 5199 for Amateur Radio software program

I am a Amateur Radio operator using a software program called Echo Link which will enable me to talk to other radio operators around the would through repeaters running this software.  I need to open ports 5198 and 5199 in my Airport Time Capsule for this software to work.  How do I open these ports?  They talk about mapping the ports which I don't understand.  Below is a screen shot of an older version of Airport that shows what I want to do.

  • RV042 opens ports 80 and 443 when HTTPS enabled in firewall

I recently installed an RV042 v1.1 vpn router (older hardware revision but using the latest available firmware 1.3.12.19-tm) and set up VPN access with the QuickVPN client.  QuickVPN requires that the HTTPS setting be enabled under the Firewall options, so I did.  I then scanned our static IP with grc.com's ShieldsUP! to check for open or non-stealthed ports and discovered that ports 80 and 443 show as wide open, while port 113 is closed but not stealthed.  If I disable the HTTPS setting under Firewall, then ports 80 and 443 become stealthed.  Is there any way to use QuickVPN and keep these ports stealthed?
    Thank you!
    Tim

Solved this by forwarding ports 80, 113 and 443 to an unused internal IP address.  Tested QuickVPN after doing this and am still able to log on AND have a full stealth rating from ShieldsUP!

  • Open port 98 and 99 to connect an alarm to internet

    Hi,
I have a wifi at home, that consists of an AirPort Extreme as base-station and a AirPort Time Capsule to extend the network in bridge-mode.
The Airport extreme is connected to cable-TV broadband fibre through a Netgear modem
To this AirPort Time Capsule I have connected a home alarm with a cable to the first LAN-port.
But the alarm cannot connect to network , according to the alarm company ports 98 and 99 must be opened. I have contacted my ISP and they informed me that all ports are opened. So the problem must be in the settings in my wifi.
The thing is that the alarm had contact earlier, when the time capsule and the air-port extreme was in opposite positions.
    Can anyone guide me, please?

In order to control which ports are used by the JMX agent you need to start it in a specific manner.
Have a look at the JConsole FAQ point 7 for more detailed info:

Are you saying that all those rules defined under advanced, network, port forwarding rules are activated?
How did it decide what device/s on your internal network to forward to?

Which TCP/UDP ports need to be opened on a firewall for adobe reader and flashplaer to operate properly? This would include updating, linking, and any subset of features.

The Acrobat Family uses TCP HTTP/HTTPS for all traffic. The following processes and ports may be active on a Windows client machine:
    AdobeARM.exe - automatic updates - port 443
    AcroRd32.exe - brand messages - port 443
AcroRd32.exe - links in documents - anything specified in the URL
    Acrobat.exe - brand messages - port 443
Acrobat.exe - links in documents - anything specified in the URL
    AdobeCollabSync.exe - Tracker review data - port 443
The same ports are used by the  program components on OS X.
There are no inbound listening ports for any elements of the Acrobat Family. Automatic updates are not pushed and there are no server processes within the software.

I will assume that you have the AirPort Utility for Windows installed on your Windows partition ... correct?

Setting up Port Mapping on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) takes two basic steps: 1) Reserve an IP Address for the host device that you want to have accessed from the Internet, and 2) Configure the appropriate ports on the AEBSn to pass Internet traffic to this host device.
You will use the AirPort Utility for both steps.
    For the first step:
o AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP > DHCP Reservations
o Click the plus button to add a new DHCP reservation for the wireless bridge adapter. You will need the MAC address of this adapter to assign a Private IP address to.
    For the second step:
o AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT > Configure Port Mappings
o Click on the plus button to add a port map.
o Select "Personal Web Sharing" for the Service type. This should auto-populate the Public & Private TCP Ports with the value 80.
o Add 8080 to each of these values; place a comma between them.
Your mappings should looks something like the following:
    o Service: Custom...
    o Public TCP Port(s): 80, 8080
o Private IP Address: <enter the DHCP reserved IP address you created earlier>
    o Private TCP Port(s): 80, 8080
