Ports and Connections
From my research into RTMFP, I see that to initialize a connection, a connection to Stratus must first be completed and a Fingerprint is given. Anyone wanting to connect must then have that Fingerprint; so there's no way to specify the port that will be used correct?
That being the case, if you knew all the machines that would be part of a session; is there a way to initiate an RTMFP session with your own specified port and have users connect to your session with your IP and port? All without first communicating with Stratus?
Seems like a stretch, but if it would be nice for what we need if that is possible.
I appologize if this has already been addressed, but to use Stratus, UDP ports 1024 through 65535 on either parties’ firewalls must be open?

Problems with USB port and connecting ipod?
So I recently got a Macbook Pro Retina and I'm having some trouble with my USB ports especially when syncing my ipod is involved. For some reason, the ipod has trouble connecting and it fluctuates from connecting to not connecting and sometimes, the computer says USB devices are disabled. I've looked this up before and tried the PRAM reset or whatever, but it still doesn't work. I'm not really sure what's going on because when I try to charge the ipod with a wall charger, it works perfectly fine. However, trying to charge it with my computer is a different story. I've tried charging my ipod from both sides of the port but it still does not work. (Also can someone explain how to know whether the USB is 3.0 or 2.0?) Thank you:) This problem does not involve my ipod because I recently just got it back from servicing.
I went through all said steps.
It is not acknowledging the fact that I have my iPod plugged in at all under the Universal Serial Bus. Or that fact that the USB port is plugged in.
Any more advice??

HDMI, Mini Display Port and Mountain Lion

After reading about numerous issues concerning the Mini Display Port and Mountain Lion, I'm trying to discuss it here with you all to see if there is any solution.
I have a MacBook Pro (2009), and used it with my TV (HDMI cable + Mini display port adaptor) with Plex media center back when it was on OS X Lion. It was very convenient because as a portable computer, it could easily be set near the TV and allow the use of a remote to sit in the couch and stream media from the Time Capsule… without the help of any expansive box. Perfect setup I've had for over a year.
The thing is, since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, when I try to connect the MacBook Pro to the TV, the screen turns blue as if it was calculating the resolution of the monitor so… ok. Until it comes back, and nothing changed either on the MacBook Pro screen or on the TV.
Harware side, I've tried with the computer open, closed, I've checked every port and connection on both computer, TV and adaptor.
Software side, what I find really annoying in Mountain Lion is that they completely ditched every monitor setting as long as nothing is connected — and even if the Mini DP is connected… the Mac thinks it's not. I even tried to reset the PRAM. This is a nightmare.
I've tried to do the same with my iMac (mid 2011), and it all worked properly. What I can't explain is why it works on my iMac and not on the MBP… as they have the same configuration !
I don't know if Apple is outcasting old devices so people buy new Apple stuff or if they ditched the HDMI out on certain (old) devices on purpose so users replace it by the new airplay mirroring feature and buy the Apple TV. I won't, because let's say it's a total crap compared to other media center solutions. And I'm bored of Apple.
Please, HELP NEEDED ! Has anyone had the same issue ? I bet you have ! Now how can we solve that ?
Thank you for your time.EDIT : stopped working on iMac too… then update 10.8.2 fixed the issue. Now it works. Thanks Apple for temporarily removing some features ! It's just so ANNOYING.
Hope you gonna stay with the few we have left on Mac and stop removing things randomly. Not event talking about the pro environment (designers, developpers, etc.) that is almost gone. 2 years and our macs will be tablets. Careful with the old clients… it's been almost 10 years I'm on a Mac and I've never been so unhappy. -
I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II. How do I connect? 4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI. 5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all? I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one. I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI. Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870. That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.

I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can. From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance. The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs. Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA. I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000. Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected? I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are. I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4. Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch. -

HI, I am trying to connect my macbook pro, 18 months old, to a projector using the mini display port and a cable/connector to a VGA port on the back of the projector. It all fits but the there is nothing happening? no mirroring option. Any ideas appreciated. Many thanks
to get to the Detect Displays button you have to hold down the Option key and the button appears.

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

I am trying to set up my new iPad 2 and to begin I installed iTunes on my laptop and connected the iPad to the USB port. Neither Windows or iTunes recognizes the device. I did everything this site told me to try and still no luck. Help!
You will not be able to see what version you are running until the iPad is activated. It will be in Settings>General>About >Version when you can get to the settings app.
The slider bar that you are describing sounds like the screen lock side switch and that has no bearing on setting up the iPad or connecting to WiFi.
Why don't you try rebooting your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again and see if the iPad will recognize and join the network. -
Do I connect my airport express to my modem via the WAN port and then connect from airport express to my imac with ethernet cable? Is that how you "hard wire" the connection? Because when I do that, I still can't get online. Thanks.
What is the make & model of your modem?
You pretty much stated the correct wiring. There should be an Ethernet cable connected between the modem and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Express base station.
Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results. -

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi? My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken
I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal. -

The requirements for this to work are:
1) The AirPort Express must be the 802.11"n" version. Model Number is A1264
2) There must be adequate wireless signal stength where the Express will be located

I dont have a USB 2 port in my G4, how can I charge and connect my brand new iPod 30GB. My G4 only has USB 1 ports. The quick start guide says Can I buy an adapter or something? I'm running OS 10.4.4
You can use the USB 1.1 port to sync and charge your iPod. It will just be slower than USB 2.0.
As far as an adapter... what model computer do you have?
There are USB 2.0 adapters for many Macs... but not all of them.

After Effects CC 2014 won't start
