Ports for LOM and Server Monitor?

I have an Xserve setup behind a firewall (local IP), and I'm trying to access LOM and Server Monitor from outside of the network .... which ports should I forward to the Xserve?
google comes up semi-empty :P
Thanks!

The entry for port 623 says "Used by Intel Xserves' Lights-Out-Monitoring (LOM) feature; used by Server Monitor". Server Admin uses port 311; it's possible Server Monitor may also use that port for some functions, though I'm not sure.

  • Enterprise Hotfix Rollup for Win7 and Server 2008 R2 via WSUS

I stumbled across the fact that Microsoft released a hotfix rollup for Win7 and Server 2008 R2 that contains 90 hotfixes
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511/en-us
The articled I linked above talks about after installing 2775511 (the big hotfix rollup containing 90 hotfixes) it is also necessary to install three more hotfixes:
After this update is installed, you must install update 2732673 to fix a regression issue in the Rdbss.sys file
After this update is installed, you must install update 2728738 to fix a regression issue in the Profsvc.dll file
After this update is installed, you must install update 2878378 re-released on November 11, 2013 to fix a regression issue in the Advapi32.dll file
I have imported all four of these hotfixes into my WSUS server. Do I need to install 277551 first and then install the other three or can all four be approved and go out at once? I guess I am hung up on the language of "After this update is installed
.... ". I want to put all 4 of these on our Win7 machines as well as my 40+ WinServer 2008 R2 machines

I read somewhere that over half of the updates included in Win7 SP1 and WinServer 2008 R2 SP1 were originally released as hotfixes. This means Microsoft made the decision that a large number of hotfixes would benefit every user of these two OSs
I think your conclusion is flawed. The only thing that you can draw from the presented statistic, is that Microsoft determined that a significant percentage of updates originally released as hotfixes warranted the additional investment in regression testing
to subsequently release those hotfixes as updates.
The fact that they bundled these 90 hotfixes together leads me to the same conclusion.
In fact, exactly the opposite conclusion applies: What you have in this package is all the rest of the stuff that didn't make that cut. What you have in this package are still NOT-regression tested hotfixes, they've just been bundled up for easy deployment
(and note that three of them got further broken in the process of bundling), causing yet three more hotfixes to have to be released.
In fact I read the MS Team Blog about this big hotfix release and they say the same thing, all users of these OSs would benefit from the installation of this hotfix rollup, not just a subset of users.
I suspect there are a notable number of patch administrators and systems administrators who would disagree with that self-serving promotion. If, in fact, it's true that "all users" would benefit, then the product team should have invested the effort in properly
regression testing those hotfixes, and releasing them as REAL updates. They did not; ergo the *actual* value is less than claimed.
Of course the bugaboo here is the fact that three other individual hotfixes need to be installed after the big hotfix rollup is installed.
Exactly! (And those are just the attempted fixes that broke something. Who knows how many other "fixes" may still result in newly discovered "broken stuff" that was never broken in the first place.)
The second part of this question should revolve around an itemized review of the hotfixes contained in this rollup with one simple question asked for each:
Have we actually *experienced* the issue addressed by this hotfix.
Where hotfixes are concerned one very simple but important rule applies:
If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it!

  • Anybody know what tcp or udp port # is used by Server Monitor?

Hi everyone. I've been lookin' all over ****'s half-acre to find out what port # is required for Server Monitor with no luck. Sure, I can access the local IP address on the LAN, but for LOM to be truly useful...I need to access from WAN. Since my public IP takes me direct to the server itself (and other ports on that ip do other things), I really need to know what port # is used to forward Server Monitor traffic. Anyone?
    Thanks!
    Ed

    Ed LaComb-
I do have this link to well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.
I am fairly certain the answer lies within.

  • Ports for Macbook Pro to monitor screen

I just bought a Macbook Pro 2 Ghz i7, 15" laptop and it doesn't seem to have connections(ports) to a separate monitor screen, what can I do?
    Thanks!
    Frank

Your MBP has a Thunderbolt port for external video connections. You can connect an Apple Thunderbolt Display to it with a Thunderbolt cable, or any other display using a mini-Displayport adapter to whatever sort of connection your monitor offers: VGA, DVI or HDMI.

  • How to configure Mail to use different ports for POP and SMTP?

I am trying to configure Mail for my AT&T account. It requires me to configure POP (incoming) mail for port 995, and SMTP (outgoing) mail for port 465. However there doesn't seem to be an option to configure different ports for these. Is that correct, or am I missing something?
Alternatively can I configure two accounts, one for POP incoming and one for SMTP outgoing? My incoming POP account does work, but in configuring an outgoing account I still have to configure a POP server name and that will not work for the outgoing port.
Any advice on how to solve this would be appreciated.

Understand. It is really quite easy to do in Mail, too. Kappy told you how to set up the smtp piece. I gave you pop info. These two things are on different panels within Account Preferences.
To recap his and my posts
    SMTP:
In Mail Prefs, click on the accounts icon. Click on your att yahoo account on the list. On the right of the window, in the lower portion, you see an smtp server menu. Open it and select edit. Select Edit Server, then click on its Advanced tab. Set up port 465 with SSL.
    POP:
This is on a different panel in Mail PRefs Accounts. Now in Mail Prefs, click on the accounts icon. Click on your att yahoo account on the list. On the right of the window, you see three tabs, acc't info, mbox behaviors, and Advanced. This is where things are different than for smtp. You are going to configure stuff on a different "advanced" panel than where you were for the smtp stuff. Click on the advanced tab. There is a field for port with a SSL checkbox next to it and an authentication drop down menu. Check the box and it should quickfill change from 110 to 995. Autentication drop down is probably already default to password.
Did you visit the URL I gave you previously? It even gives you screen shots.

  • Possible to have different ports for incoming and outgoing email?

I need to set up a mail account in Mail where I read incoming mail from port 110, but to send outgoing mail I need to use port 587. Is this possible in Mail? Looks as if you only get to set the port once for both operations.

it is indeed possible. go to mail>preferences>accounts, select the account you already created then go to account information and to outgoing server list, click on the list, go to edit server list and in the advanced pane you can change the outgoing port. for the incoming port, again select the account you already created, then go to advanced, and type in the incoming port.
    hope this helps

  • Upgrading from 7 to 9 and server monitor

We just upgraded from cf7 to cf9 and are getting a message in the server monitor that is is unavailable in this version. Our server is Windows 2003 and IIS6 with the standard edition.
It appears to be the issue covered by this tech note
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/527/cpsid_52797.html
The files in the tech note though are for cf8, which we never had, so I'm not sure if it will work (and I'm a bit leery to experiment on a production server).
    Matt

We did not do a 30 day trial install, if that is what you mean.
We did make a clone of the production server (since it is a vm) and installed it. The server monitor was not something we looked it. Our configuration has some quirks in that we process htm and html requests thru cold fusion. So that was the main focus and debugging nature of our testing. We also had some data source issues.
The server monitor is something we didn't have in 7, so I was just "checking it out" now that we are live on production.

  • Using separate ethernet ports for LAN and internet

    Following scenario:
A couple of Lion clients and a Lion server connected to a switch. Switch connected to router for internet access. All devices, clients, server and router are in the same C-Class net.
I'd like to connect the Lion server with 2 ethernet ports to the switch, so that one port is solely used for connections to the Lion clients (aka LAN) and the other port is solely used for connections to the internet. That way heavy LAN traffic to/from the server cannot bog down internet access to the server. Any ideas how to acomplish that?
Usually you would configure the Lion server as a router and connect the Lion clients (via a switch) to one port and the cable modem to the other, so both ports are in different subnets. But I don't want all internet traffic from the clients going through the Lion server.
The best I've come up so far was to configure both ethernet ports with static IP addresses. The one connecting to the clients with a 255.255.255.0 netmask but no router IP given. The one for internet with a 255.255.255.255 netmask and the router IP set to my physical router IP. It seems to work, but I'm not sure, whether this is the suggested way to do such a setup.
Maybe some manual editing of the routing table is are more solid solution?
    Any tips appreciated.
    Pete

What you want to do can be done but maybe not the way you are trying.
First yes, you would use two Etherner ports on the Mac, if it is a Mac Pro or XServe it has two built-in, other Mac models can do this using a USB Ethernet interface.
Next, the way I would normally do this is to have a separate switch for the WAN router, this would make the setup look like the following
LAN Switch ----- Server ------------ Router --- Internet
           | |                             |
           | |                            NAT
           | +-----------------------------+
           |
           +------ Client Devices
The router could be doing NAT via one interface, or a separate Firewall box could do the NAT.
Another possible way would involve segmenting the lan switch by setting up a VLAN and putting one port for the Servers second Ethernet connection on to that VLAN (using public IP addresses and the a connection to the router on that VLAN, the LAN switch could then route between the two VLANs. Cheaper LAN switches do not have this ability.

  • Change port for sshd and mysqld?

The default installed mysql and ssh do not respect the port settings in their config files (/etc/my.cnf and /etc/sshd_config) respectively. For firewall reasons we have to run these on different ports.
It is not clear where both the services get their port settings from. I found a hint that sshd actually gets it from the /etc/services file:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050707140439980
I haven't yet tried that, but it seems possible, any experiences?
Mysqld sets the port on the commandline that runs the server, I found the setting in the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.mysql.mysqld.plist file. I removed that setting (so that it respects the my.cnf setting) but unfortunately Server Admin seems to write over that file when it restarts the MySQL server. Does anyone know where Server Admin gets that setting from?
I guess I should add a note that says I'm annoyed that this is hard, but really I just want to get it working
    --J

Thanks, yes, I can confirm that editing /etc/services for sshd worked, now I have sshd listening on 22 and another chosen port.
Mysqld is still tricky. A temporary workaround is:
    $sudo launchtl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.mysql.mysqld.plist
then edit that file, removing the --port=3306 argument then load it again. When that line isn't there it does respect the settings in my.cnf. I'm pretty sure that this persists across reboots, too.
However if you stop and start MySQL with Server Admin.app that file is re-written, including the port line that you deleted. So you either have to do the above again, or remember to restart mysqld (hopefully doesn't happen often) by using launchtl unload or service mysqld stop. I'd love to get this working through the GUI.

  • Different Ports for Sender and Receiver?

For testing a tool it would be nice to run RTPSender and Receiver on the same computer. But here?s the problem. I run VideoTransmit and AVReceive2 (both from the Sun code samples) with the following parameters. VideoTransmit should send to IP A and to Port 22224. AVReceive2 should listen to packets from IP B and Port 22224. Now VideoTransmit sends from a random port, but Port 22225 is used on both computers for exchanging user information. Because of this it isn?t possible to run both on the same computer because both want to use port 22225 for a connection.
Is there a possibility to change this?

You can Send and Receive on one computer.
    Can't remember the combo though.
    It's one of
    transmit 192.168.1.255 22222 //multicastIP port#
    receive 127.0.0.1 22222 //localhost port#
    or
    transmit 192.168.1.100 22222 //computerIP port#
    receive 127.0.0.1 22222 //localhost port#
There is the answer in these forums somewhere.
I just hate to see people struggle.

  • Enhanced USB port replicator 43R8811 and dual monitor

I have problem with USB port replicator. I cannot put a right resolution to monitor (wide screen monitor). Replicator's settings say that I can use up to 1280x1024 resolution but monitor support i.e. 1400x1050 resolution which port replicator should support by user manual.
If I put monitor direct to my X300 laptop I can use monitor's right resolution (1680x1050).
Is it drivers problem or what that I cannot put a right settings?
    -Paul-

I'm having trouble understanding your phrasing.
The Enhanced USB Port Replicator I recently purchased supports 1440x900 and can be configured to do so.  I did have to install the drivers by downloading from the web (they were provided on a CD -- convenient since my laptop came with no CD/DVD drive :-).  Once the drivers  were installed, it happily suports 1440x900.  Did you already install the software?  Older versions of the port replicator don't support above 1280x1024, but that should not be the case with the Enhanced one.
So you should be able to set any resolution up to 1440x900.
Of course "1400x1050" would be a higher resolution than 1440x900, and thus not supported right?

    2. What installation is required for the client side?
    3. I'd like the client to access the form application using internet browser. What are the configuration should I fullfil?
    Many Thanks,

    Hi,
there is no client-server anymore in Oracle Forms. Its a web only deployment. So 1-2 no longer apply.
    3) You need to install Oracle Jinitiator on the client or the Java 1.4 Plugin. Both can be configured for automatic installation.
See the Oracle Application Server documentation and whitepapers on otn.oracle.com/products/forms to learn about how to install and run Forms Services
