  • How do I port forward or open a port on the Airport time capsule to hook p a security system?

I have an airport time capsule and a security system.  The installer doesn't know anything about using routers etc, especially on a mac.  They say I have to port forward or open a port specifically of this device.  I have very few skills when doing this IT type.  Is this hard to do?  Can I do it myself?  He wants to get an IT guy out?  $55 an hour, how long would it take?  Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

    The method is here.
AirPort - Port Mapping Basics using AirPort Utility v6.x
If you need to get someone in, it depends.. The TC can be recalcitrant.. due to your setup of it following the apple guides.. and it depends on the security system and how simple that is.
There are multiple issues.. for example how do you find your IP address from the web when you have dynamic IP from your ISP.
Do you intend to setup dynamic DNS? Can the camera /dvr system handle Dynamic DNS?
I recommend you read very carefully the instructions for what has been installed.. because merely opening the port is only a small part of the issues involved in remote access to the security system.

  • File Name and File Content  not gettinng passed from Proxy to Business Serv

    Hi All ,
I have a requirement in OSB , where i need to pick the file from remote Source and FTP the files to Remote Target .Below are the steps which i did to achieve this.
1.Created a FTP Adapter in JDeveloper to Get the files from Source and a FTP Adpater to Put the files to Target.Inboth the adapters i have choose 'Shema is Opaque'
2.Imported the wsdl and jca file to OSB
3.Generated Proxy Service (PS ) and Business service (BS) out of Step 2
4.I edited the Message flow such a way that , the PS is routed to invoke the BS
Aslo i assigned $inbound/ctx:transport/ctx:request/tp:headers/jca:jca.file.FileName to a variable 'FileName' in PS
and in BS service i passed $outbound/ctx:transport/ctx:request/tp:headers/jca:jca.ftp.FileName = 'FileName'
When i tried to activate my session , the file that is getting written to the target has 0 byte. Also , the file name is also not getting passed from PS to BS
Can some one help me with the steps on how to use the Xpath , so as to pass the file name and file body from proxy servive to business service.
    Thanks
    John

I search multiple shares to find a common file name then create a single output file. I will be doing this search and file creation
for 5-10 different file names. If there is a better way .. certainly open for suggestions. It's working but having issue with
the cmd file for every file and folder I check. It puts this error out for each run of the process.
      Error message in LOG file:
Get-ChildItem : Cannot find path 'F:\powershell\-SearchFor' because it does not exist.
     Thanks.
I tried your code with little changes and saved in Temp folder.
My CMD file has the below code
    PowerShell C:\Temp\Untitled1.ps1
    It worked.

    Darren_Dunham,
Even if something's binding to port 6112 in a ngz, why should that matter to the global zone? After all, those are different IPs, and binding means, that something binds to an IP+Port combination (or NIC+Port). So they are. But Zones have a different concept of "ADDR_ANY" than the global zone does, and this difference is not readily apparent in 'pfiles' output.
So a ngz can run an application that binds to ADDR_ANY (0.0.0.0), but it's really bound only to the IP addresses visible inside the zone.
The thing is that from the global zone, 'ps' will see all the processes (including those in ngzs), and 'pfiles' will show that both processes are bound to the same port (and not via a specific IP address).
This document below is really focusing more on exclusive IP zones, but if you look at page 7 and page 8, it shows two normal processes joining a standard TCP stack and two processes in separate shared-IP zones using their own TCP stacks (with the crucial difference that the app can bind to 0.0.0.0 and get different IPs)

  • Can only port forward port 80, other ports does not open.

I am trying to open three ports on my AE (7.6.1), but the only port that actually opens (if set) is port 80.
    - The Airport Extreme is the router and no additional router is in place
    - I have given the three cameras (that I want to access from Internet) static IP
    - I have trired to open three ports for those (45101, 45102, 45103)
None of above ports open, but if I change one port to 80, that port opens and one camera can work. This is really strange and any suggestions or help is much appreciated!

As you don't want to use the modem as router I would recommend to reconfigure your modem into "bridge" mode. In bridge mode it works like a simple modem. You then have to configure your WRT for your internet connection (usually PPPoE for DSL or DHCP for cable). With this setup, you don't have these chained routers and the WRT has a direct connection into the internet (i.e. the WRT shows your public IP address on the Status page).
Some chained router setups shows problems with drop outs, connection loss and similar. I recommend to use only one router in home setups.
On a sidenote: port forwarding is not related to firewall functions. The reason why you need port forwarding is because a router does "NAT" (Network Address Translation). You use private IP addresses inside your LAN (e.g. 192.168.1.*). Private IP addresses are not routed into the internet. Any internet router will immediately drop packets with a private IP addresses. Thus, your router does NAT to map your private IP address to your single public IP address. It's in the nature of this mapping that unsolicited incoming traffic from the internet is dropped unless you configure port forwarding. That's simply because the router would not know where to sent a packet on a port 1234 received on its public IP address unless you tell it. Thus disabling the firewall on a router won't change a thing.

  • Open from scanner Acrobat 9 pro fails

I am restricted to scanning with Preview because Acrobat 9 collapses every time I try to open from scanner and that causes my Mac to give me a black screen until I unplug the scanner (a simple Lide Canon 70) from the USB port. Any suggestions?

Preview uses a different scanner driver to Acrobat. Have you installed the [LiDE70 scanner driver v12.13.1|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900323301.html]?
If you do have the scanner driver installed then what settings do you have selected in the Acrobat Scan window? I just tried scanning from Acrobat 9.4.1 using Canon LiDE200 and worked okay for me.

  • Port 23 (telnet) open

    Hi All,
I was on line using my airport, and checked in on an internet security site that I've looked at in the past:
    http://scan.sygate.com/prequickscan.html
This evening I was a bit surprised to see that the site was reporting that my TELNET port #23 was open. I don't recall seeing that port open before.
My firewall is on, and I have no sharing services enabled. In fact, I can't see a port #23 to enable anywhere in sharing...
    Any thoughts here from anyone?
    Thanks,
    Bob

I think the key here is that you are using Air Port. As such, you must also be using some form of wireless access point hardware -- a router. Many routers will let you access and change the router's settings via telnet. It is this router that is the one responding to the website that is checking on your security.
My guess is that if you look at the user's guide for the router, you will find a way to disable accessing the router via telnet. That should solve your problem.

  • Ports won't open after forwarding

I'm trying to set up my AEBS so I can access my network remotely. However, even after forwarding the ports, none of them are showing as open. So far, I've
Mapped the ports (3389 for Windows RDP, 21 for FTP)
Reverted my Firmware from 7.6.3 to 7.6.1
    Allowed incoming IPv6 connections
    Set IPv6 to Tunnel
    Enabled NAT port mapping
I have an Airport Express set to extend the current wireless network, though I can't see how that would impact it. Not even Port 80 will open. I've also got both my MacBook and my PC's firewalls configured to allow the traffic, though since the ports aren't open I can't imagine the problem being associated with that.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Would like to bump this thread - intalled a foscam wireless PTZ camera on my network with no issue - static ip obviously. I made all the changes to my airport extreme (tried the new airport extreme AC and my older N model) and it won't work on either. Various webtools show that the port i'm trying to open (80) is still closed.
    Airport extreme is on 7.6.4

  • Can't get SMTP to accetp outside email (port 25 not open)

    Hi,
I've got the xServer 10.4 (latest) and it appears to be working fine in all other regards.
I have the mail service on (POP and IMAP both work fine) - I can send myself email using the UNIX command line mail (and get it through POP).
But I cannot send email either from my client through the xserver or from another account to the xServer - I'll get the message 'cannot send email for 8 hours...'
A quick port scan shows port 25 is not open (not can I telnet to it). But server admin shows it's running and appears to be happy (it's not over worked anyway).
Any tips would be greatly aprciated.

May help if you can answer these questions.
    1) Did you set this up with the server admin tools or
have you edited any of the config files?
100% admin tools - this is even a new install. I'm not shy about editing config files but I figured Server Admin was easier and I can't see anything obviously wrong (not that I know that much about it)
    2) Did you telent to port 25 using the IP address?
    yes, no connection
    3) Did you telent to port 25 using the Server Name?
    yes, no connection
using port scan of the network utilities shows other ports open, just not 25. Output:
    Port Scanning host: 192.168.0.2
    Open TCP Port: 22 ssh
    Open TCP Port: 53 domain
    Open TCP Port: 80 http
    Open TCP Port: 110 pop3
    Open TCP Port: 143 imap
    and so on.
    4) What domain do you think you are trying to host
    mail?
Well several (I have the viirtural domains turned on) but declan.com will be the main one, right now it's also home.declan.com and donaldgevans.com.
From the information you posted (unless you edited
it) it is not clear how your networks are configured
or what the server is being asked to host. Answers
to the above will help clarify these points as even
if you fix this problem, you may have others.
OK - this is a fixed IP on the internet, going through a firewall (host mapping, everything passed through to this server which is 192.168.0.2). But I think this is less the issue - I can ssh, http, POP, IMAP to this server from either inside or outside the network. I cannot telnet to port 25 by IP or domain name either inside or outside so I assume it's not the network; it's because port 25 is not open.

  • Port 1024 permanently open

    Morning all
I'm using a HH2 which was recently upgraded to the 'new and improved' software.
Shields up recently showed port 1024 open. I don't know when it changed from the usual stealthed state.
It appears that this port is opened when the HH is powered up. If I down power the hub, port 1024 goes into stealth mode.
Why does the Vision box leave this port permanently open?
Is there anything I can do to keep it stealthed, other than turning off the Vision box?
Can't find any references to this problem with HH2.
    Cheers
    Dave

    Thanks for the reply DS.
I read through that thread, but didn't find any firm conclusions.
    You said ...
The port 1024 has been known to lead to a number of malware infections on Windows systems. Since ports are used to exchange information between a computer and the Internet, they are also a pathway for intruders to gain access to your computer or for malware to use your computer for unauthorized activity on the Internet. Applications or services monitor ( "listen" to) the port that they are assigned. If this listening action is done without taking security steps, the port will be open to incoming signals and may be vulnerable to intruders.
Crackers are constantly using scanning software to probe many thousands of IPs, looking for a computer with open ports. Today no unprotected computer is safe on the Internet. Even if you have a firewall installed, it is wise to have your ports scanned to see if they appear invisible to the outside world.
This worries me, particularly since Spybot has started to pick up the odd bits of malware which hasn't happened for years.
    Keith Beddoe said ...
If you have uPNp enabled on your home hub (bad idea), then it will open port 1024 incoming as well. Simply disable uPNp if it worries you, the BT Vision box will still work, as the firewall will still allow incoming connections as replies to the outgoing requests on port 1024.
If you block outgoing port 1024 on the home hub firewall, then the BT Vision box stops working.
Does anyone know if this can be done on a HH2 ? I've looked round the interface and can't spot an option.
    Cheers

  • Ports to be open for iTunes U

    Hi,
I have an issue in my institution. I can't browse my iTunes U content, especially videos. Videos never start and also block iTunes 30 seconds later.
Do you know which ports need to be open ? My institution is behing a very narrow firewall, we also use a proxy (which is well configurated I guess).
I've been told that 80 and 443 ports should be open (http and https) but it doesn't help, videos are not launching.
Are there other ports to be open ?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello psavoyaud

  • RV110W port 443 always open

I just bought and setup a RV110W. I noticed while scanning it from the WAN side that it always has port 443 open, even when remote management and VPN access are disabled. Why is this port still open, and how do I close it? Or is this a bug in the firmware? I am using firmware version 1.1.0.9, which is the most up-to-date for this unit. Having open ports allowing unsolicited contact from the WAN side, especially inadvertant ones, is a major security hole.
I should be able to lock this down with no open ports on the WAN side. Any idea why this unit is doing this? Should I return this device, or is this fixable?

I've upgraded to 1.2.0.9. The Cisco support site search top link that points to what it claims is the latest the firmware, displayed 1.1.0.9 as the most up-to-date. You have to notice the left hand column has a higher version number listed. See here.
Once I did that firmware upgrade, the 443 port appearing open on the WAN side for unsolicited connections went away. The tool I used for probing was just Shields Up!. It's a pretty basic port scanner that probes for acceptance of unsolicited connections from external IP address 4.79.142.202 over a range of ports, typically ports 0-1055.
I don't buy the "blame it on the modem" explanation, if for no other reason than in this router replacement, the modem wasn't changed and the previous router always showed no ports open for unsolicited connections in the port ranges I probed except when port forwarding was activated. I've not turned on any port forwarding (nor remote WAN-side admin access nor VPN access) on this RV110W for these tests.
Anyway, for whatever reason, the issue seems to have gone away with this firmware version.
BTW, the one complaint I have with the RV110W design (or any of its Cisco cousins) is the lack of SMA connectors for the antennas, so one is stuck using the antennas on the unit. My old router had vastly better coverage because I was able to replace it's antennas with external antennas which I could use to tailor the shape of the coverage area to the local. (e.g. D-Link ANT24-0700 omnidirectional antenna, Hawking HAI15SC corner antenna, etc) I hope I don't find I need to put this unit on eBay in a month and replace it with one with detachable antennas just to get adiquate coverage in the shape I need.

  • Why does paintbrush not work on images opened from Bridge?

This problem may be due to another cause but the most common occurance is when an image is opened from Bridge so I've posted it here.  Here are the details.
I have had tons of problems with CS4 on my desktop PC but seem to have most of them resolved with a new video card, updated driver  and help from an earlier thread.  In fact, I thought all problems solved but this one has persisted.  If it matters I'm running Windows XP service pack 3, 4gb of RAM of which 3.4 is available.  It has an 2.67 GHz Intel Core2Duo cpu.
If I open CS4 and open an image, all paintbrush tools (paintbrush itself, clone tool, healing tools, etc) work fine.  Sometimes I can work for hours with no problems.  Other times these tools simply stop working.   When this happens seems random.  For example, the other day as long as I did not send anything to print, all worked fine but after printing a few images the tools stopped.  Other times I've printed and the tools still worked.  Sometimes if I open images direct in Photoshop using file -> open, all is well but as soon as I launch an image from Bridge, tools don't work.  Other times launching from Bridge works fine, BUT more often than not, it seems to occur after launching from Bridge, hence the post here as I already noted.  I've tried to trace down a common set of circumstances but it is too erratic.
What is interesting also is that the use of the tool shows up in the history panel as a step taken.  There just is no visible effect on the image.  This problem has been present since CS4 was originally installed along with several other problems.  In the course of attempting to solve them all, I have deleted preferences and allowed them to rebuild, I have actually uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop multiple times.
More confounding is that CS4 works fine on a clunky old laptop with less RAM and a much, much older video card.  I also, as a test, ran the 30 day trial on the computer I'm using here.  It too is older and less RAM and that worked fine too.  So it seems to be saying there is something wrong with the computer used for photo editing or the video card.  Don't think it's the card.  I bought a new one.  It didn't solve any problems so I bought another and it corrected many of the other issues I was having.  Indeed after installing the latest drivers for this card, absolutely everything worked perfectly for almost two days but now this paintbrush tool issue is back.
So what the heck can be going on that is cumulative or is there a hardware component that is erratic or have I missed something in CS4?  Man I love the power of the program and the improvements since CS3 but if I have to shut it down and restart it every single image, clearly that is not feasible.
    Many thanks for any help.

Well, now I'm an idiot.  I fired up without the tablet plugged in and
paintbrush worked fine on all files.  I then left the image open I had just
painted on, plugged in the tablet with pc still running, no paintbrush
function using tablet mouse.  Without unplugging the tablet I again tried
the regular mouse and paintbrush worked fine.  So it's not a matter of any
sort of conflict with the tablet being active, it sure looks like a tablet
malfunction.  It still mystifies my how this tablet is so smart it can tell
the difference between psd and jpg but there it is...can't argue with
results.  Still, one last thing confounds me and that is the tablet works
fine on all file types in CS3 and every other app I have.  If there was a
malfunction with the tablet, wouldn't you think it would misbehave on all
apps?  Could it be that the tablet needs a new driver?  You must've had a
clue to recommend this course of action.  Now that we're here, what do you
suggest or should that be another thread?
By the way, if it matters I had already upgraded vc drivers and CS to 11.0.1
    before this started.

  • Excel files with fields linked to other excel files take a long time to open from SharePoint library

Trying to track a problem for a user.
Most of the documents opened from our SharePoint libraries appear to open in a timely fashion.
But...one user has noticed an issue, and I just noticed something with her files that are a little less common than other stuff we've seen.
she has a lot of pricelist excel files.  there are some master price list files, and then other files that link to fields from within the master files.
the files that contain links to other files appear to be the ones that open very slowly.
the files are being opened via excel itself, not the owa viewer or editor.
is there a trick to setting up either the library, the site, site collection or web app... or some client-side setting that affects how quickly/efficiently excel will open files that link to other excel files shared within sharepoint?

    Hi  carphuntin_god,
According to your description, my understanding  is that when you click a hyperlink which redirect to other files , the file are opened very slowly via excel client.
How about you download the same file and open it using excel client? If it is opened quite fast, the issue should be caused by some third-party add-ins in the office program or antivirus soft.

If you want to open the files using excel service after click the link in the excel file, you can create the hyperlink in the following way:
    General Syntax:
    http://<server_name>/<site_name>/_layouts/ xlviewer.aspx?id=<workbook path>&range=<location>
    For example:
    http://CorpServer/DeptA89/_layouts/ xlviewer.aspx?id=http://Mfct/Stats/Shared%20Documents/Parts.xlsx&range=Widgets!A1:F25

If you want to open the files using Office Web Apps after click  the link in the excel file,  you can create the hyperlink in the following way:
    http://<server name> / <site name> / <library name>/<your file name> ?web=1
    For example:
    http://sp/Shared%20Documents/exceltest.xlsx?Web=1
