Position of module components on the canvas
Hello,
I am creating forms with designer.
If I have 2 module components, I want to have the two module components one beside the other on the canevas, I do not know how to it... is there some preferences to set ? actually the 2 module componets are one on the top of the other ans there is enough space to the two module on the same line ...
Thanks.
I tried it in my version (6.5) and you can try this too in 6.0
Put the 1st block on a new content canvas and set the width to e.g. 30.
Put the 2nd block on a new stacked canvas and set the x position to 30.
You will programatically have to raise the stacked canvas (e.g. in the when-new-forms-instance), otherwise it is not visible until you go the 2nd block. Something like:
set_view_property('CG$POPUP_1', VISIBLE, PROPERTY_ON);

Ideas to display which component drives the other components in the canvas
I have 4 components in my canvas and I would like to learn some ideas from gurus on what are the best ways to display which component drives (drills down) the other components in the dashboard. Any info would be appreciated.
Hi,
There is no such rule on which component should drive other in Xcelsius. It all depends upon the data that you are using. Always a component with summarized data should drive a component with granular data. For eg: If you are showing Total sales in a country using Column chart and want to drilldown to the percentage of sales in each region of a particular country , you can use pie chart to show it. Here Column chart drives Pie chart and u can show this in other way also.
Hope it helps!

Unable to drag components on the canvas
Hi,
I am a first time user of Xcelsuis 2008 and only have installed it today (upgrade from 4.5 to 2008). I am not able to drag and drop or point and click components onto an empty canvas. Any idea what could be causing this ? I already have installed SP1 hoping that would fix it but no result.
Thanks for your suggestions.>

Do you have FP1 installed as well (in addition to SP1)?
I have found that clicking on random objects on both the canvas and in the object browser tends to "unstick" that particular behavior you are describing. -

HI
Is it possible to have two or more module components on the same page using web server generator with designer 6i
in the case of master details relation.
If it is possible then how can i do it?
thanks in anticipationIn designer6i we cant do this.
In designer 9i, it is taken up as an enhacement request and work is going on, maybe indesigner 9i we would be able to have more than one module component on the same web page.
Hope this solves your query -
Not able to move components with the arrows
Hi,
I was able to work normally and all of the sudden, I stopped being able to move the components in the canvas through the arrows... this makes my work almost impossible.
Strange thing is that when I open a new file I can move the components... but not when I work with files which did not have any problem yesterday.
I have tried restarting, re-installing, I have the SP2 for Xcelsius Engage... but it still does not work.
Please, let me know how to operate in order to be able to continue with my work.
Thanks a lot!

VGS-1501 Error while opening the canvas in the form module
Hi All,
I am getting “VGS-1501: <message not found>” message while opening the canvas. Actually in my machine Oracle Apps R12 is installed. To work on forms I have opened form builder and created a data block manually and created a canvas in the form module manually. To add items on the canvas, when I am clicking on canvas then first I am getting “VGS-1501: <message not found>” error message and then after canvas is getting opened. But here in the canvas there were no items available in the side tool bar.
Then I decided to build form through wizard. Once the form was created, then when I opened the canvas then again I got the same error message. Here when I tried to run the form, then the form got closed automatically. This problem is related to forms only because I am able to work on Oracle Apps (functionally) and also I am able to develop a report using report builder. Can somebody please help me to fix this issue
Thanks
ThahessenI got something sililar behaviour when I use different version forms in different version of developer environment. Sometimes your Forms_PATH and REPORTS_PATH may be point ot wrong version.
This is only a assumption... -
Components in the lowest level of costing structure in SO
Hi,
Could you please let me know is any function module to get Components in the lowest level of costing structure in Sales order.
Thanks,
HarinathYes, you can manipulate your components any way you like. Becareful about the layout manager though as it likes to handle the positioning and sizing, so there is an intimate relationship there.
Also call validate() on the container after you make your changes. -
I am getting this popup error when trying to open a .gif file:
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
This comes up every time I try to open a .gif file. Even if I make a .gif file (like the image included in this post), save it and then try to open it again, I get the same error. I tried reinstalling CS4, but the error is still there. I have also done the reset on start-up and nothing. Some have suggested that I open it in (Windows XP Pro) MS Paint and then save it again. Did it and this does NOT work for me, either.
I know it's a Photoshop problem because I can see this file everywhere, except Photoshop. It will open here, there and everywhere, except for Photoshop.
I've searched the Adobe Commmunity and it looks like no one has come up with a fix for this. I'm just currious after 5 years with this problem, has there been a solution?
ScottOne of the files that has the error is in my first post.

Moving or zooming the canvas crashes my system.
Been having this problem for a while now, and I just cannot seem to fix it. It also seems like nobody asked the exact same question before. All previous forum posts seem to be about photoshop itself crashing, while in my case my entire system locks up.
It seems to work fine at the start, but it will lock up on me on random. I tried finding out what the exact problem was, and it seems that moving about the canvas in any way always seems to be the cause. I also often get this while I try to save, in the saving process I would move my canvas around, and it would lock up on me. Thus making my .psd-file corrupt/unreadable. I want to say I'm getting frustrated with this, but I already am...I can NOT get any work done.
I tried different methods to approach this, but no luck. One is installing the latest video driver, but it already seemed to be up-to-date. Second would be disabling certain plugins in Photoshop, like the FastCore and the MMXCore ones. But even that did not solve the crashing. I feel I am running out of options I can find, so I am pointing my attention here, hoping that someone can help me.
Basic system specs:
VGA: GeForce GTX 580
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K
Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 DELUXE
RAM memory: 8GB
Operation system: Windows 7 ultimate.
Photoshop CS5
- StephanOne of the things I can mention about my RAM is, The cooling I installed on my CPU was so big that I couldn't properly place the RAM under it, so right now there is a 4GB chip on each outer slot instead of the recommended position. Would RAM misplacement be the problem? If so I should probably get some smaller RAM then (which I feared I had to when I built it). I want to know for sure.
If the RAM isn't the cause...I wouldn't know how to figure out which one of the other components could be the issue. -
Screen resolution problem for components in a canvas
Hi,
I am developing a Flex application, and I am using more than
one canvases in a single page(with in application tag).
And one canvas has elements like Chart, datagrid, legent
& a label.
Width & Height I gave to canvas and all its elements
(except legend & label) is in percentages
The problem I am facing is that,
when I change the screen resolution, and
when I press F11(full screen) in IE, the all objects except
legend & label are increasing/decreasing, and in some cases
lagend & label are overlapping in the chart & data grid.
Could anybody please advise what I need to follow to
eliminate these kind of problems.
Thanks in advance.
PavanOoooooh, haha my bad, I didn't realize you were talking about
relative positioning on your app.
Here's what's happening. Your component/application is in
ABSOLUTE layout mode, so you can specify coordinates for where
controls and components should be placed. When the size of the
application changes, these coordinates are hard-coded, and they
will always display in the same place, which can case them to run
into components that have been resized to fit the new application
size. Now fixing those numbers is not easy. In fact, I don't know
of any way to make those numbers dynamic so they adjust when the
application size adjusts.
Instead, I suggest using constraints or Vbox/Hbox rather than
hardcoded coordinates. With constraints, you can specify how far
your Legend component is from the edges of the container it's in.
Or, you can use the VBox or HBox so your component is always in the
place it needs to be.
<mx:HBox width="80%" height="50%" top="10" left="10">
<mx:PieChart id="piechart1">
<mx:series>
<mx:PieSeries displayName="Series 1" field=""/>
</mx:series>
</mx:PieChart>
<mx:Legend dataProvider="{piechart1}"/>
</mx:HBox>
In this example, You can see I set top and left to 10. This
means that my HBox will be exactly 10 pixels from the top and left
side of my application (or container, or whatever it's confined
to). The Piechart and Legend fit neatly inside the HBox, and
because it's an HBox, they will be side by side horizontally.
If you need spacing between your chart and legend, you can
always use the Spacer control under Layout.
<mx:HBox width="80%" height="50%" top="10" left="10">
<mx:PieChart id="piechart1">
<mx:series>
<mx:PieSeries displayName="Series 1" field=""/>
</mx:series>
</mx:PieChart>
<mx:Spacer width="100%"/>
<mx:Legend dataProvider="{piechart1}"/>
</mx:HBox>
As you can see, the Spacer control is separating our chart
and the Legend by a width specified. Always use a percentage here,
as you'll run into problems I talked about in my previous post.
100% means the chart and the Legend will be as far away as they can
be while staying within the Hbox container. If you decreased it to
50%, they would only be half as far away.
Hope this helps.
EDIT:
One last example of a pie chart and a Legend within a canvas.
Each object has constraints to the canvas, which lets us put them
whereever we want within the canvas:
<mx:Canvas x="0" y="0" width="80%">
<mx:PieChart id="piechart1" left="10" top="10">
<mx:series>
<mx:PieSeries displayName="Series 1" field=""/>
</mx:series>
</mx:PieChart>
<mx:Legend dataProvider="{piechart1}" right="10"
bottom="10"/>
</mx:Canvas>
From this example, the chart will always line up to be 10
pixels from the top and left of our canvas. The Legend however,
will always line up to be 10 pixels from the right side and bottom
of our canvas. Adjusting the canvas size, the chart size, or the
legend size will give you the desired distance between these two
objects. -
DID YOU KNOW?? - ABOUT DATAPROVIDER COMPONENTS IN THE PALETTE??
Hi All,
DID YOU KNOW??
Practically all applications entail accessing data of some sort, often data stored in a relational database table or some sort of list, such as a vector or an array. Usually you need to read in data from the data source, but many times you have to update that data, too. The Sun Java Studio Creator integrated development environment, as another enhancement to its application model, provides data provider components that simplify accessing data sources, regardless of whether the data source is a relational database table, flat file, web service, vector, array, or some other type of data store.
A data provider component is a nonvisual abstraction for wrapping sources of data, and it represents a more generic and flexible data binding mechanism. A glance at the Palette indicates that there are many different kinds of data providers available to you. These include data providers for cached RowSets, ResultSets, lists, arrays, maps, table rows, and method results.
These data providers constitute a layer between a web application's components and its persistence tier, such as a database table, Array object, or Enterprise JavaBean object. This layer enables you to access data in a consistent way, even though data may come from different sources.
Lets briefly discuss the CachedRowSetDataProvider
The CachedRowSetDataProvider Component
A CachedRowSetDataProvider is a wrapper to data held in a CachedRowSet. The primary purpose of a CachedRowSetDataProvider is to facilitate binding to components in the IDE. A CachedRowSet stores the data retrieved from a database. In fact, the only information held by the CachedRowSetDataProvider is a cursor position into the CachedRowSet. Multiple CachedRowSetDataProvider instances can reference the same CachedRowSet, and each instance will have its own cursor position into the CachedRowSet.

We would like to know the following from you :-
1) Which of the DataProviders are you using in applications you are building? Also How and Where?
2) Did you face any challenges while using them?
3) Did you find any special usages/scenarios for using these components?
4) Do you have any feedback/comments/improvements which you would like to see with using Dataproviders?
Thank you for all your inputs and for joining in the discussion.

Is it possible to allow a large brush to extend past the canvas?
I'm working on a banner image for an email blast with some large broken glass brushes. If possible it would be great if there was a way to allow the brush to paint outside the canvas so that I can scale/rotate/position it. As it stands now I end up with the sharp straight edges from where it crops at the edge of the canvas.
Obviously I could just make my canvas much larger to accommodate the size of the brush and then just crop down to the portion I would use. But (mentally) I think it's easier to just be able to look at what to final image will be so I'm curious if there's a trick I'm not aware of.
I'm using CC 2014.2.2 on a PC. Thanks all!Not directly with brushes. I did wonder if creating an over sized canvas, then cropping down with 'Delete Cropped Pixels' unchecked would do it, but I tried and it does not work. so your options are
1) Use a custom shape instead of a brush.
To turn a brush into a vector Shape layer:
Stamp the brush down at a good size on a new layer (the larger the brush, the better it will work).
Ctrl (Cmd) Click the layer with the brush to load it as a selection.
Turn the selection into a Path (icon at the bottom of the Paths panel).
Go Layer > New fill layer > Solid Color — give it a color and job done.
2) Stamp your brush on a new layer. (Use the largest natural size for the brush or it will pixelate)
Turn the layer into a Smart Object (right click the layer)
Both these options can be Free Transformed beyond the canvas boundaries, but the Shape option has the advantage that you can save it and have it available for future jobs, or even share with other people. -
