Positioning a vertical line in Pages document??

I have a Pages word processing document that has three columns (like a classified ad page in a newspaper). I want to add vertical lines between the columns but I want to center and position the vertical lines myself between the columns. What setting do I change so that I can move a shape (a line) manually. In AppleWorks the feature used to be called "Turn Auto Grid Off." Any suggestions?

Inline & floating works the same way in Pages as it does in AppleWorks. Think of working in a word processing document in AppleWorks. To have an object that you could move anywhere on the page & have text wrap around it, you click the arrow tool to enter draw mode. Any object pasted in draw mode is floating. Inline objects move like any text character. The description in the wrap inspector in early versions of Pages caused a lot of confusion (see first screenshot below). The function is now the same, but the description has improved as far as I'm concerned (second screenshot).

Can't see bottom line in Pages document.

When I go back into the middle of a document and start typing, eventually, when the line I am typing scrolls to the next, at the bottom, I cannot see the line I am working on. It is very annoying. It doesn't happen when I start a new document. When I have typed enough that the document has to scroll down, I can see fine. But while working inside, editing and adding text, the "helpful" bar on the bottom of the screen hides half of the text I am typing.

Can't get rid of vertical line in Pages '08

I add a text box to a blank page and paste in or type in some text.
There's a verticle line running the height of the paragraph (or single line) that I can't get rid of.
Also, the text appears blue even though it's supposed to be black. When I select the text and check the color it says it's black.

If it helps, the original is nothing but jpegs on every page. It's a child's picture book. I'm trying to put the front pages in, which are only text. I didn't copy from the internet, but typed into a text box. No pasting from another document either.

When you did the Copy and Paste and Match Style back into the "Original Document", that reverted the style. What you should have done when returning was a straight Paste.

LaserWriter 630 only prints the vertical lines test page

I have resurrected a LaserWriter 630 pro that hasn't been used for a year or so, which starts up and the green ready light comes on. When I print to it, the pages come out blank. I have tried printing a simple text file, which was blank, and a one page PDF (simple text also). In the end the PDF took so long to process I cancelled it. Should it take this long?
The only ink I can get it to leave on the page is the first page of the paperclip-in-hole test page. It then prints a second page which is blank. Any ideas?
I have a copy of the Apple Printer Utility, and have printed it's font test page, which is blank also.
Any ideas?

Thank you for the info, I hadnt found that detail anywhere. I will try it when I get home.
I think the laserwriter is a great printer, and wouldnt swap it for a brand new one unless it caught fire!
I gave it to my mother 2 years ago who used it for a while, then bought a colour inkjet and it ended up unused for a year or so. I have just taken it back to replace a much newer but much more irritating colour laser I found at the dump. I believe the last time it was used it worked perfectly. I gave it a new set of rollers about two years ago.
I am not afraid of a bit of multimeter probing!

Officejet 6500 Wireless Puts lines on page when using document feeder

Hi,
Only using the document feeder for either print or scan there are vertical lines down page sometimes in the middle and sometimes at the end and some horizontal lines as well.
Scanning or printing direct from the glass - doesn't happen.
I have to be able to feed more than one page for a fax or scan so its on one document.
Does anyone know why this is happening when I use document feeder?
any assistance greatly appreciated

Single Vertical Line When Using ADF for Scan or Copy on HP Officejet Pro 8600

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium Printer (CN577A)
OS: MS 7 64 bit
When using the ADF for my CN577A HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer, I get a single vertical line on the document that is produced. This occurs when copying or scanning, both in black and white, and in color. If I scan or copy using the glass, I don't get the vertical line.
I already tried the troubleshooting. I unplugged the printer, left it without power for several minutes; that didn't correct the problem. Next, I cleaned the rollers and the glass; I still get the vertical line, but only when using the ADF.
My firmware version used is current (CLP1CN1150CR).
What should I check next?

The ADF uses its own glass area on the scanner bed, it is the narrow (about 1" wide) strip on the left. Cleaning this area should resolve the issue. A single small spot would cause the issue you are seeing.

How to draw vertical lines that are visible in preview mode?

Hi all,
I need to draw vertical lines on a document. The lines must be same as we draw using line tool.
I could draw the line using CreateLineSpline() method of IPathUtils.
The problem is that these lines are not visible in preview mode. Please tell how can we make lines that are visible in preview mode.
Please help, I'm running out of time.

Pages 5.1 - vertical lines in a table

I have a large document that, for regular formatting purposes, is entirely a table. At various points there is a black vertical line that appears on the inside of the right-most edge of the table. I do not know what it signifies, nor how to get rid of it. In one place it appears in a cell which occupies an entire page;
in another it appears over several, smaller, consecutive cells.
Any thoughts on a) how to get rid of them and b) what they are?

Nope, not document wide. You could do it manually on a page by page basis or if the content is suffciently small that you can make each page a fixed height row of a table you could use the Table middle setting for the paragraphs.
With a tool like Framescript, you could set up a procedure that would determine the bottom gap from the last line of text to the end of the text frame and then split difference to push down the top of line text, but this requires a bit of coding.

Pages symbol what is it? looks like lollipop vertical line with dot on end?

trying to migrate from old pages in I work to new. totally lost. see a symbol in my document looks like a vertical line - with dot at top. is one line tall. can't make it go away.

You seem to be supplying all your own answers, why not ask yourself?
If they have an anchor their object placement is:
Format > Arrange > Object Placement > Move with Text
Change it to:
Stay on Page
Which is the equivalent of the old Floating.
