Positioning methods in Lumia?

I know there are few methods for positioning in Lumia.
Even user guide list those: GPS, GLONASS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, or network (Cell ID) based positioning.
My problem is that how the user can control the use of those - or know what is used and how accurate is reading.
I would like to know how accurate is the reading - and am I using the most efficient/accurate method for getting the info.
I tried to search for settings from phone - no luck. Search the user guide - no luck. And last the forums/discussions - no luck.
I hope I will get more details on this one.

Try Wikipedia.. I mean really..
In short you have GPS and GLONASS is the Russian counterpart. A-GPS stands for Assisted GPS and does what it says on the tin, it aids with positioning through GPS and/or GLONASS. Positioning with Wi-Fi is wildly inaccurate as it generally points to where the server is and that may be halfway across the world. Cell tiangulation is just that; using three or more cell towers to find your location.
You trying to be funny?
I did not ask about differency of GPS, GLONASS or any of other methods. You can read again my question...
I did ask about:
1. How to change from one method to another?
2. How to verify that 'selected' method is used?
3. Is there any method to actually see the current accuracy of used postioning? (including hw/sw based solution).
None of the answers match my question.

  • N97 Mini positioning method disabled after reboot

    Hi, I have the latest firmware installed on my N97 Mini (12.0.110) and have discovered recently that every time i reboot the phone, the positioning methods all get cleared(disabled). I have to go into the Locations option in the apps page and reselect each positioning method again. this is a pain. Are there any workarounds/fixes? Raj

    Presumably related to this problem is that if I try to restart the svc it gets disabled.

  • Cannot find the ''Positioning Methods'' option on ...

    Hello....I have recently bought the C7-00 and I wanted to test my GPS but I could not find the "Positioning Methods'' option to select the A-GPS, so can anyone help on this.
    Thank you.

    Do you not have a Location app in your Applications Folder ? As CJ mentioned , that is where you set your location methods to on/off. Inside Location you should have 3 sub folders, Landmarks,GPS data and Positioning. Open Positioning and you should be able to change the settings !
    If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :

  • Xmlgen.setstylesheet: using position() method

    I am producing HTML by modifying XML generated by xmlgen.getxml via an xsl stylesheet. I am trying to use the position() as follows:

    I'm trying to use an equivalent syntax to the

    <td class='r{position() mod 2}'>
    <xsl:value-of select='ENAME'/>

    In the older version of Microsoft XSL, you'll need to:
    <tr>
    <xsl:attribute name="class">
    <xsl:value-of select="index()">
    </xsl:attribute>
    </tr>
    and then combine this with some use
    of <xsl:eval> to do the mod calculation.

  • Trying to understand StreamReader (BinaryReader) BaseStream Position

    This is my first attempt to use BinaryReader in VB 2012 (having previously done so in VBA).
    I am reading an extremely large text (TSV) file which I ultimately intend to divide into many more manageable-sized files that (in the future) I want to be able to randomly access - hence my need to understand the "Position" method.
    My VB code for reading the TSV file is as follows:
    If (File.Exists(TSVFile)) Then
    Using reader As BinaryReader = New BinaryReader(File.Open(TSVFile, FileMode.Open))
    While reader.PeekChar <> -1
    '~~> TEMPORARY MSGBOX TO VIEW STREAMREADER POSITION
    MsgBox(reader.BaseStream.Position)
    '~~> TEMPORARY MSGBOX TO VIEW STREAMREADER POSITION
    '~~> Set up 0 to 4095 Char array to receive Reader buffer
    Dim chrBuffer(4095) As Char
    '~~> Assume it will be the final, probably incomplete, read
    CompleteBufferRead = False
    '>> Complete the Read, return the no. of Chars read - was it complete?
    If reader.Read(chrBuffer, 0, 4096) = 4096 Then CompleteBufferRead = True
    ' BLAH
    ' BLAH
    ' BLAH
    End While
    End Using
    Else
    Exit Sub
    End If
    As you can see, I am using reader.read(Char(),Int32,Int32) to read 4096 characters at a time into a 0-to-4095 Char array - and this code apparently works fine.
    HOWEVER, when I attempted to follow progress by examining the result of "reader.BaseStream.Position" I got the following surprising results: 0; 4098; 8194; 12290; 16386; etc.  The first Position is 0 (i.e. the beginning of the file).  However,
    having just read the first 4096 characters, the second Position is 4098.  The subsequent Position results are all increments of 4096 (as you might reasonably expect) except the final Position which reflects the fact that the very last data is not on the
    4096 boundary.
    What I am trying to understand is why the very first read of 4096 Characters offsets the StreamReader's Position forward an extra two Characters (when all subsequent reads of 4096 Characters increments Position by 4096)?
    Solving this conundrum will help me in devising my future random-access strategy.
    As ever any and all help and assistance will be very much appreciated.
    Paul J

    DON'T USE CHAR with binary data. A CHAR is really two bytes with a private property to indicate that the character is one or two bytes to handle Unicode characters. Use Byte array instead. it is not necessary to use peek instead.  See code below
    Imports System.IO
    Module Module1
    Sub Main()
    Dim byteBuffer(4096) As Byte
    Dim bytesAvail As Integer = 0
    Using reader As BinaryReader = New BinaryReader(File.Open(TSVFile, FileMode.Open))
    Do
    bytesAvail = reader.Read(byteBuffer, 0, 4096)
    If bytesAvail > 0 Then
    End If
    Loop While bytesAvail > 0
    End Using
    End Sub
    End Module

  • Nokia E6 Searching for position / Waiting for GPS ...

    I have a new nokia E6-00 with Symbian Anna (1 month old). I am very frustrated with the in-built GPS (Ovi Maps). It is working fine when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network, but when in OFFLINE mode it can not locate any satellites. It keeps displaying "searching for position" and "waiting for GPS". What should I do?
    Note: I have only checked Assisted GPS and Integrated GPS as positioning methods because I do NOT want any internet traffic caused by Ovi Maps.

    Hello there,
    I am writing because I am also having similar GPS difficulty with my E6-00.
    Here are the proper problem description and some background info:
    - for the past year, I had been using the C6-00. Its then Ovi Map was awesome, worked great in Asia, US, EU.
    - and before that, I also had the E71 for 2yrs. Again, Ovi Map served well.
    - Both phones only required their built-in GPS to navigate either walking or driving (with "offline" and "mobile data off")
    Now the problem with E6:
    - When "offline" or "mobile data" is off, the GPS simply wont function AT ALL. Like OP said, it gets disconnected soon afterwards. My question is, this is intended for E6? In comparison, the result in E6 seemed like a huge flaw.
    - Navigation / Positioning also seem "messed up". I am in Taiwan, Map version v0.2.43.11. I did a test: I launched both Nokia Map and Google Map on E6. Google map was accurate, showing exactly where I am, but Nokia Map was offset for 500 meters!! This made navigation IMPOSSIBLE!
    Map versions:
    - C6: 0.2.46.103
    - E6: 0.2.43.11 (cannot be further updated)
    Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Fixed Position Divs Won't Position Correctly

    Hi,
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 and trying to put a series of thumbnail images within a div using the fixed position method. They look great in Live View but when the page is posted they shift way off to the left. Here's the page:

    It looks pretty bad in Firefox and absolutely awful in Internet Explorer.
    I added background colors to the various divs (partly to help me locate them correctly) and I want to center the photos in the greenish box. I'm a fairly new Dreamweaver user and spent about two hours trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

  • N8 GPS can't find my position

    Hello
    I have a big problem with my N8 GPS. I just use Integrated GPS in positioning methods and I disabled A-GPS, Network and Wi-Fi options. But Ovi Map 3.04 can't find my position. I compare my phone with an N79 and a 5800 in similar situation. They can easily find the position in less than a minute! But my N8 still searching and searching…. . It’s embarrassing!!!
    Can anybody help me?! Any suggestion?

    Grrr ! All that "experts" here...
    1, Use AGPS if you want to get a coarse estimation of your position.
    2. Use internal GPS only if you want to get a precise position.
    3. There are no (NO !) differences in position fix speeds caused by software. GPS works in a sequential way: A sequential data stream is sent by the satellites. To get a full position fix, all of that data stream has to be received, from start to end. THIS causes speed differences: If you start the GPS application at the beginning of the data stream, fix is fast. If you start it in the middle of the stream, the device has to wait for the stream starting again from the beginning. This is for collection "almanach" data - data about where the satellites are at present - they're moving.
    4. If that almanach data was received earlier and no too long ago, GPS fix is fast because the device does not have to wait for that almanach data stream. Again: It has NOTHING to do with different software.
    By the way: This is what AGPS does - downloading that almanach data via internet instead of waiting to get that data via the air and trying to triangulate your coarse position with the help of comparing the signal strengths received by different cell towers. Again: This does NOT provide you with precise positioning data - just estimations. Never use AGPS if you need a reliable position fix. .
    5. GPS signals are high frequency signals. Reception of such signals may vary greatly with the phone's position: One or two cm of placing difference may cause a big change in reception.
    6. GO OUT ! Do NOT try the GPS module indoors. You MAY get sufficient signal strength inside buildings - but this is an exception, not the rule.
    7. N8s GPS receiver is really fine, very sensitive. No problem with that.
    In short: Go outside. Don't use AGPS or network-based GPS. Don't believe people saying "Precise (!) GPS fix is much faster with software blabla..." Don't get fooled by a quick display of an estimated position: The real position fix did not get calculated at that point of time; it's still running in the background. This is what's causing that constant change of your position right after the first fix got displayed. A minute later, your position appears stable; and that's the point of time where real positioning data are used - not just coarse estimations.
    It all depends on that almanach data and a clear view of the sky.

  • How to fix Maps positioning problems in X6

    I had an Nokia 5800 at the start of the year before it got stolen, and nokia maps on it worked perfectly. After it was stolen I got a X6 (16g) as a replacement, but the maps have never worked properly for me. At first it looked different to the map I had on my old 5800 and would keep asking me for a license, so I updated the software with OVI. The latest software looks the same as the maps on my 5800 but the new problem is that the positioning is constantly off by over 300m, making the gps unusable. I've tried changing the positioning methods but nothing seems to work.
    Anyone know a way to fix this? The store I bought it from was no help. It is not a parallel import btw.

    Sigmund, we were already covering this topic in your previous thread, but you never responded.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4955396#4955396
    Please don't start up a new topic on the same subject, as it can be confusing keeping track of what we have and have not already discussed.
    Have you set up your project using the settings for AVCHD Full 1920x1080 HD?
    Did you use Premiere Elements' Video Importer (under Get Media/From Flip or AVCHD Camera) to get the video from the camcorder to your computer? (This is as opposed to putting the SD card in your card reader and using Windows Explorer or Finder to copy the video over.)
    Before you assume that your computer is powerful enough to edit video, please provide information on your processor speed and RAM load. AVCHD, in particular, can require a lot more horsepower than Adobe's listed "minimums".
    Finally, please tell us, per your other thread, where you're seeing the graininess and vertical lines? Is it on Premiere Elemenets' Monitor panel or on your output. If your output, which Share settings did you use?

  • How to Save & reload front panel position

    I would like to save the front panel position into an ini file or registry, so that the next time the program is used, it comes up where the user left it.
    With the Invode Method: Front Panel.Run-Time postition.Get positon
    I can get all the position data I want:
    left-top
    state
    monitor
    However...  How do I set the same information at startup?
    There's no  Front Panel.Run-Time Position.Set position. as far as I can see...
    To set position, state and monitor values, it seems I need to first call  FP.Open for the state, then FP.Run-Time Position.Centered to select the monitor, and then FP.Run-Time Position.Custom to set the position....
    That looks weird and complicated...    Am I missing something here?   Is there a more elegant approach?

    NI explains the difference between Property nodes and Invoke nodes as this.
    Property nodes access the properties of an object and allow you to read/write those properties.
    Invoke nodes perform actions on an application or VI allowing you to get and sometimes set attributes of those actions.
    Sometimes there is some overlap between Properties and Methods as you noticed with the "Get Position" method and the "Panel.Position" property. But most of the Methods do not have a similar Property. For instance, there is a Method you can use on a front panel item called "Get Image". This will return image data about the item that will let you save the items current visual appearance to a graphics file. (.bmp, .png, .jpg) There is no equivalent property to do this.
    So it really depends on what you are trying to do as to which one you end up using.

  • Personnel Cost Plannling for Vacant Position, ECC 6

    I am implementing Personnel cost planning and simulation ECC 6, based on Payroll results and Projected pay for vacant position only, no issue in payroll results but i am not clear about the projected pay, vacant position based on wage element from IT 1015.
    for testing purpose i have created one position and made it vacant through vacancy infotype, then i have created 1015 record for that specific position and not on job. for 1015 i have created one sample wage element and assigned in 1015. I am not using the planned compensation infotype (1005) although if i do then i am able to collect, any way without 1005 i am planning to collect data PHCPDCOO. based on object type position, first issue, i am not sure which collection method should be used, expecting that "Data for Vacant Positions" method should work, that method is not working in my case and wage elements are not comming.
    kindly advice
    one more concern is while creating wage element through comp management, i could not see any place to assign wage element to cost items or symbolic account but assigned the cost elements while creating, is this enough ?

    Hi Muhammad,
    Did you get through? I am in the process of researching Personnel Cost Planning.
    How did you set up wage elements and assign them to the infotype 1015?
    And what would be the next process after that?

  • Convert a word position in a document into an X-Y position

    Hello,
    I have a JEditorPane and I want to convert the position of a word into an XY position.
    For example, I open a document in my JEditorPane that contains the word "hello".
    The following code gives me the position of the word "hello" in the document text:
    int position = 0;
    javax.swing.text.Document doc = documentManager.getDocumentEditor().getDocument();
    try {
       position = doc.getText(0, doc.getLength()).indexOf("hello");
    } catch (BadLocationException ex) {
    }What I want is to convert this position into an XY position that corresponds to the real position of the word in the document.
    In fact, I am searching for a method that give the same results as getMagicCaretPosition(), but without the need to use the caret...
    Edit: I found myself, it's the "modelToView(int position)" method that return a Rectangle. The x-y values indicates the exact starting position of the word according to the document.

  • Is there a method or function to list all the properties

    I'm looking for a method that's similar to Python's dir(x) which lists all the properties of an object. I'm looking to use this on After Effects Objects.

    You can use a for...in loop: for (var key in myObj) if (myObj.hasOwnProperty(key)){ ...}
    But in ExtendScript there are also Reflection and ReflectionInfo objects. Those are not documented in the After Effects Scripting Guide but in the JavaScript Tools Guide (common to all Adobe scriptable apps).
    For any ExtendScript object o you can query its reflection object. o.reflect is an object with properties and methods:
    "properties" : an array listing all properties in o. Each entry is a ReflectionInfo object.
    "methods" : an array listing all methods in o. Each entry is a ReflectionInfo object.
    "name" : the class name of the object
    "help" and "description" : some strings supposed to give some hint about the objects but those fields are invariably empty...
    "find" : a method to find a specific property or method by its name
    For what a ReflectionInfo looks like, see the JavaScript Tools Guide. (The main properties are "name", "dataType", "type")
    For instance, if o is a layer position property:
    o.reflect.methods = array of ReflectionInfo corresponding to all "ADBE Position" methods
    o.reflect.find("setValue") => ReflectionInfo corresponding to the method "setValue"
    o.reflect.find("setValue").name : "setValue"
    o.reflect.find("setValue").arguments.length : 0     // SHOULD BE 1 ... arguments are not filled in :-(
