Positioning of expanding hotspot?

Hi there,
I'd like to set the position of an expanding hotspot in correlation to the trigger. How can I do this?
Target situation
The expanding hotspot is shown directly beneath the trigger (here: button "Chapter B"). I want the hotspot to appear beneath the trigger but aligned top. So all hotspot content is displayed on the right of the trigger and expands only down. This is shown as model in screenshot "Target Situation".
Problem 1
The first problem is, that the first line of the hotspot content is aligned with the line/row the trigger is in. This happens if I insert the whole hotspot content as a single image. So the first lines expands up. See screenshot "Problem 1".
Problem 2
The second problem arises if the image is inserted in two parts to have a workaround for the top alignment. The second line within the expanding hotspot is displayed left aligned under the trigger - not left aligned in the hotspot. See screenshot "Problem 2".
I figured out several workaround with transparent placeholders. But how can this be resolved in a clean way be positioning the expanding hotspot?
BR,
Hobbes

Hi there
Why aren't you using Drop-down hotspot for this? It would seem to offer just what you are looking for.
Just curious... Rick

  • Do the iPhone 4 give the gps position over personal hotspot to an iPad 2 wifi only?

    Hello
    I want to buy an iPad 2 wifi only.
    I have already an iPhone 4.
    Do the iPhone 4 give the gps position over personal hotspot to an iPad 2 wifi only?
    So I don't need to buy a iPad 2 wifi+3G only for the GPS.
    Thanks.

    I have a WiFi only iPad1. I use a Verizon MIFI 2200 hotspot device that is about the size of a larger, thicker credit card. It easily fits into a shirt pocket. It does not connect to the iPad by any cable whatsoever. It is a free standing device. You can connect up to five devices at a time with the 2200. However, like any cell phone, 3G, wireless connection like this, in some areas the reception/connection is great - in other places - not so much. Sort of the anti - "can you hear me now?"

  • DHTML Expanding Hotspot and Text Not Available

    I have RoboHelp 8.0.2. Just uninstalled RoboHelp from one workstation and loaded it onto another. I also moved my project to a new folder - I am now publishing the content thru an IIS server. The Options under DHTML are greyed out. I'm assuming there is a component missing. Does any one know what this might be or if a missing component is not the issue, what the problem may be?

    Hi there
    You do realize that these options aren't usually available until you select something first, right?
    For example, if you just open a topic and haven't selected anything inside the topic yet, the options are generally disabled. But if you first select some text, then click the menu, more options are available because you have first selected something.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp HTML (x5.0.2) - Show DHTML Exp. Hotspot Expanded

    Is there a way to configure RoboHelp so that in the WebHelp
    output all DHTML expanding hotspots are expanded?

    Welcome to our community, Sgramo
    Uhh, wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Why not simply insert
    the text and format it accordingly?
    I thought that is the reason for the expanding text. To keep
    it hidden until the user wishes to see it.

  • Location and size of hotspot in a packaged file

    Hi all,
    I'm working on a authorware program in which I want to use the location ans size of a clicked hotspot to draw a rectangle. Ultimately, I would like to be able to change the size/position of a hotspot, and when packaged, the rectangle should be drawn at the new position of the hotspot, with the new size. So far, I've been succesful in an unpackaged file with:
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeX))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeY))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationX)
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationY)
    where Title is the title of the clicked hotspot. So far so good... BUT I learned the hard way that GetIconProperty() does not work in a packaged authorware file (next time I'll first read the help section better!). My question: how can I obtain the same information in a packaged authorware file?
    I have been looking at the GetSpriteProperty() function, which should work in a packaged file. However, the hotspots are not sprites, and I don't know what spriteproperties I should use for the location and size of the hotspot  (#awSizeX, #awSizeY, #awLocationY, & #awLocationX don't work). Furthermore, GetPostPoint does provide the position of the top left pixel position of the hotspot, but I need separate X and Y values for the position of the hotpot to be able to use the Box() function to draw the rectangle. And I need the of the hotspot as well. Lastly, PositionY@Title and PositionX@Title don't work for my hotspots (the value is always 0 and does not change when clicking the hotspots).
    I could solve the problem by making variables of all the position values and size values of all the hotspots, but then I would not be able to change the position and size of the hotspot by dragging, and changing the rectangle accordingly.
    I would be more than happy to hear if anyone has a solution for me.
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for your suggestions! Regarding your first thought: I don't know what you mean by making my clickable area a hit *object. I've tried the help pages of authorware, but it drew a blank. Could you explain how I can make my clickable area a hit *object?
    Regarding clickX/Y: the values depend on the exact location where the user clicks, therefore drawing a rectangle over a picture (which is not moving) is difficult using clickX/Y. I would like the rectangle to appear on a certain spot (namely on the position of the hotspot, with the same width & height), regardless where in the hotspot the user clicks.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 Expandable Lists

    Adobe Communities, I have yet another problem. A Few Examples of what I am trying to achieve:
    Demo Expandable list
    Pure CSS collapsible tree menu | The CSS Ninja
    The Spry Menu doesn't work exactly how I would like it. Those scripts didn't exactly work for me, for some reason.
    I only need one expansion. As after you click any of the 'Texts' you will be re-directed to another page. Headers should be collapsible and I don't want to install any third party applications. Example shown below:
    'When lists are expanded header arrows point Upwards' when lists are not expanded the arrow points 'Downwards'.
    Header 1 ^
         Text 3
         Text 2
         Text 1
    Header 2 ^
         Text 3
         Text 2
         Text 1
    In addition to this, I need a similar feature done where if you click 'Read More' this will expand the text. E.g:
    Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
    Donec sagittis ultricies arcu, quis porttitor risus placerat et.
    Proin quis metus diam, quis bibendum dolor. Nulla nec dapibus nunc.
    Quisque ac erat sit amet nisl venenatis consequat nec in nibh.
    Aliquam viverra vestibulum elit faucibus sollicitudin. Read More
    When the person clicks 'Read More' this reveals 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet'.
    Thanks for the help, I will reply ASAP after you guys.

  • BTFON / Openzone WiFi Hotspot Locations

    Hi,
    I'm often out and about with just my car keys and laptop for company.  Having discovered BTFon it's nice to get on the net..... BUT......
    I need an internet connection to find where my nearest hotspot is !!!  Is there any software I can load on my laptop to show me the locations?  I believe there's an app for the iPhone, but I don't have an iPhone.
    For instance, a map showing the positions of the hotspots when I last was on the net.
    Any help would be appreciated, thanks

  • RH10 and Windows 8 Bug with DHTML

    I reported the following bug today:
    Concise problem statement:
    All DHTML effects in WebHelp—with the sole exception of drop-down and expanding hotspots—fail to execute on CLEAN Windows 8 systems (upgraded Windows 8 systems from Windows 7 do not seem to be affected), regardless of default browser.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    Set up any DHTML effect other than drop-down or expanding.
    Save topic and click “View Selected Item”.
    The following script error is thrown: “Unable to get property ‘alpha’ of undefined or null reference” — the error points to the ehlpdhtm.js file (in my case, line 4233, char 2).
    Results: No DHTML in the WebHelp output execute, with the exception of drop-down and expanding text.
    Expected results: DHTML displays as developed (and yes, "Update DHTML effects in topics" was run). It is important to note that all these effects display as expected when run from a Windows 7 machine.
    I noticed this after being forced to format and reinstall my system drive, on which I'd previously done an in-place upgrade to Windows 8. There was no issue unitl I'd done a clean install of the OS, implying that something carried over from the Windows 7 setup to prevent the error.
    I've tested this against IE10, Firefox, and Chrome with the same results: DHTML effects (such as Fly-in) don't work and, worse, whatever the effect is attached to does not display.
    If anyone else is having this issue, it would be good to report it. If anyone has a possible fix or workaround, I'll be glad to be a test monkey.
    Thanks!

    I'm having the exact same problem with Robohelp 9 on Windows 7. My error message says: The value of the property "TextPopupInit is null or undefined, not a Function object"
    I click Yes to the question "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page" and the page previews fine. I open the page in a web browser, and it also works fine.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • In-line text popup

    The
    Vertical example in the FlashHelp SDK provided with RHX5
    (help example with safari guides for Africa), there are popup links
    that expand the text content of the current paragraph by adding an
    explanation in-line with the popup link. There is one for example
    in uganda.htm in the East Africa folder.
    How is this done? Is it a standard feature? The only popups
    that I have been able to create open in a little separate box on
    top of the existing help window.

    Hi frma
    If I'm understanding you correctly, you select the text the
    user will click, then click the DHTML menu item followed by Create
    Expanding Hotspot and Text. Then enter the desired text that will
    "pop out" when the user clicks the link.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Dynamically Change icon (like iCal icon) (iPhone OS 3.1)

    I'd like to be able to change the icon in a tab bar to reflect the current date...rather, I'd like to have a background image, with the date as a number on top of that—basically what the iCal icon on OS X does. Is there a way to create the number on that icon, or is this not possible?

    musicwind95 wrote:
    when I create the new tab, how do I know which one it's replacing?
    I'm not sure you've seen the view hierarchy yet. Are you sure you set the "View Mode" switch to the Center position in the MainWindow.xib window (see the instructions for displaying the small-icon view hierarchy in my May 22 post).
    If you're looking at the hierarchy (with all the nodes of the tree expanded), note each view controller owns a UITabBarItem object. This point is often misunderstood, since we see the tab bar items on the tab bar. But each tab bar item is a child of its controller, and the address of the tab bar item is stored in the 'tabBarItem' property of that controller. So when we replace the tab bar item in this line of the example:
    - (void)awakeFromNib {
    self.tabBarItem = tabItem;
    We're setting the 'tabBarItem' property of 'self' to the address of a new tab bar item. Therefore we're changing the tab bar item for the controller which received the awakeFromNib message. If that controller is connected as the first child of the tab bar controller, we'll be changing tab bar item #1. If that controller is the second child, we'll be changing tab bar item #2, etc.
    Of course if more than one view controller is an instance of the same custom class, e.g. FirstViewController is the class for both the first and third controllers, the tab bar items for both #1 and #3 will be reset when the respective controllers receive the awakeFormNib message. In that case we'd need a way to know whether 'self' was the address of the first or third controller. That could be done in several ways. For example, we could tag each controller's original tab bar item in IB. Then we might do something like the following to ensure the item replacement code only runs for the controller object which owns tab bar item #1:
    - (void)awakeFromNib {
    if (self.tabBarItem.tag == 1) {
    // replace tab bar item
    Once again, the above if-condition would only be needed if the first controller and one or more other controllers were of the same class.
    Would this code be better off in the app delegate or the view controller?
    The code belongs in a method of the view controller which wants its tab bar item to be replaced.
    I've created the tab bar in IB (or rather, I started with a Tab Bar template), so I don't have a view controller for the tab bar itself.
    Referring again to the small-icon view hierarchy in the MainWindow.xib window, note the tab bar is connected directly to the tab bar controller. The tab bar controller is the controller for the tab bar.
    ... In at least two of the tabs that I'm working in, I'm displaying a table view that leads to a navigational hierarchy. How would I set that up?
    This time it's essential to be able to see the small-icon view hierarchy in the MainWindow.xib window. So please follow the instructions in my May 22 post in case you haven't done so already. Next, follow these steps (which assume tabs 3 and 4 will each bring up a table view under a nav bar which is controlled by a nav bar controller):
    Add a new UIViewController subclass in Xcode for the tab 3 controller. Check both Options so the new class will be a subclass of UITableViewController, and a matching XIB file will be created;
    Name the subclass ThirdViewController (name it whatever you want, but the class will be referred to as ThirdViewController here);
    Open MainWindow.xib, make sure the XIB window is visible (Window->Document) and its View Mode switch is in the Center position, then expand the small icon tree so you can see all the view controllers under the Tab Bar Controller;
    Drag a UINavigationController object into the XIB window, and drop it onto the Tab Bar Controller icon. If you only had two controllers to start with, the Nav Controller object should now be in the last (3rd) position. If you already had a third controller, drag the Nav Controller icon to place it under the second controller. The Nav Controller icon should now be in the third position;
    Expand the Nav Controller subtree, and select the Root View Controller icon;
    Open the Identity Inspector and set the Class of the Root View Controller to ThirdViewController;
    Open the Attributes Inspector and set the Nib Name to ThirdViewController;
    If you checked "With XIB for user interface" when making the ThirdViewController class in the first step, ThirdViewController.xib should already be setup correctly; i.e. File's Owner will be set the ThirdViewController class, the 'view' outlet of File's Owner will be connected to a Table View object, and the Table View's delegate and dataSource outlets will be connected to File's Owner;
    Open ThirdViewController.xib, select the Table View and locate the Simulated User Interface Elements group;
    Set Top Bar to Navigation Bar. This optional setting will paint a dummy nav bar in the Table View editor window and cause the size of the Table View to be adjusted to fit. The dummy nav bar is just a placeholder for the real one which will be created at runtime. You can't place controls on the dummy bar; it's just to help you see how the screen will look;
    Repeat the above steps to add a nav controller at position 4, making a FourthViewController class for the root controller;
    If you now have too many tab positions, you can delete each extra controller by selecting its icon and selecting Edit->Delete.
    That should complete the project skeleton, and you should now be able to Build and Go. You won't see the table views though, until you set up the data source methods in the respective controller implementations.

  • RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

    I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

    No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
    I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

    Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
    Hi, Melbert2000
    It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
    One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
    http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
    You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
    As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
    https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
    And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

  • Hyperlink from word in topic to glossary

    Can I use insert hyperlink from a word on a topic page to glossary term? I am not a programmer and wonder if there is an easy way to do this. I'm using Robohelp 7.
    Thanks.
    dpeterson8034

    Hi there
    If you are thinking you might link to a term inside the Glossary tab or panel, the answer to that is no. It quite simply cannot be done.
    The Glossary panel is simply a display method. We cannot link to terms inside it or link from terms in it to elsewhere.
    What you can do is to run something called the "Glossary Hotspot Wizard". This is a wizard that will scan your topic content seeking matches to Glossary terms. Where a match is found, a DHTML Expanding Hotspot is created.

  • FM style DHTML effects? (RH 7.01 update)

    Hi - I just updated RH7 to version 7.01 (via Adobe Updater).
    One improvement in the readme caught my eye:
    "Frame Maker style with DHTML effects when mapped to a
    RoboHelp style do not retain DHTML effects on mapping." (of course,
    this means that the update is supposed to fix this issue...)
    Jain, or anyone else, can you explain in more detail how to
    use this feature? That is, suppose I want to map some FM text to an
    expanding hotspot in RH. How would that be done?
    Related perhaps - is there a way to mark up FM text so that a
    pop-up text box in RH could be created automatically during
    conversion?
    Thanks,
    Linda
    BTW, the update addresses several issues that will be of
    interest to members here.

    Please consider the following features of RoboHelp.
    RoboHelp allows a user to map styles present in source FM
    document to RoboHelp styles present in fmstyles.css.
    Also, one can apply DHTML effects on a CSS style in RoboHelp
    using RoboHelp style editor. There is a set of DHTML effects which
    RoboHelp provides.
    By combining the above two operations, one can achieve
    applying of DHTML effects on text imported from FM document in
    RoboHelp.
    Here are the detailed steps to achieve this
    1. Open Style Mapping dialog during Add(for Technical Suite
    only) or Import or from properties dialog of added FM document.
    (Style Mapping dialog can be invoked by clicking the Edit button
    for Style Mappings under "Style Settings" dialog/tab)
    2. Click "Styles" button. Style Editor dialog opens.
    3. Create a new style or modify an existing style.
    4. Open DHTML effects dialog using the "Format" button.
    5. Apply the available DHTML effects.
    6. Click OK to close the DHTML effects dialog.
    7. Click "Close" button to close the Style Editor dialog.
    8. Map the required FrameMaker style with the newly
    created/edited style.
    9. Click OK to close the style mapping dialog.
    8. Complete the Add/Import in case of a new document or do
    Update in case of already added document.
    9. Preview the corresponding genrated HTML topic. DHTML
    effect should appear.
    Please note that the DHTML effect for creating an expanding
    hotspot is not availabe in the list of DHTML effects created
    thorough CSS style editor. However, there are numerous other useful
    DHTML effects available.
    Please let us know in case you face any issue.

  • RH 8 still slow after recommended fixes

    Hi all,
    I hate to pick an ol' bone, but I'm testing a RH 8 trial download and I'm having some of the same issues that I've seen addressed in the forum. My main concern is the sluggish response in Project Manager in opening topics. I've tried adding the BaseCSS_res.dll file to the en_us folder (unfortunately no euphoria effect) , renaming the cpd file, and I've moved the test environment to my local network. I should mention that I'm experiencing the slowness in a copied project from RH 6. The project is on the small side (571 topics, contains some expanding hotspots, and lots of image maps), however the repsonse in RH 6 is still snappy.
    I have noticed that the first few topics open with bearable speed, but the more topics I open, the slower it becomes. Must be caught in a loop somewhere - any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there
    I can't help but to notice something you said.
    ... but the more topics I open, the slower it becomes ...
    Are you simply opening and opening topics? If so, does the speed improve any if you press Ctrl+Alt+X to close all open topics?
    In all classes I facilitate I will regularly advise the participants not to have more than perhaps three or four topics open at a time as I feel that eventually it will become unstable (or slow) and it just keeps the interface cluttered and makes it more difficult to find the topic you need.
    Also, is the project on your local C drive? If not, that likely explains it too. If you attempt to edit projects while they are in a network location it will also cause all sorts of issues.
    Cheers... Rick
