Positions in IE vs. Firefox

Hello everyone
First off - I am no coder. I did a very short course in webdesign and I was taught the very very basics. So I use Dreamweaver's design interface, create layers, and add my content to the layers.
Now I am building a small site, all I did was make a couple of layers, added photos to some, and text to others, and put some borders around the photos. In the Dreamweaver desing interface, the position is correct, and when you preview it in IE7, the positions are right, but when you view it in Firefox, some layers seem to have shifted up. Also some other elements are not showing up when viewed in Firefox, like the picture borders.
Have a look here www.wishwelllodge.co.za. It is not finished yet, but you will see what I mean if you view it in both browsers.
Can anyone please help.
Thanks in advance.
Renier

You have discovered the main reason why layers (AP Divs) are not to be used as a primary layout device. You really need to learn CSS to layout web pages. Read more about layers in the FAQ.

  • Layer Positioning For IE and Firefox

Im using Dreamweaver 8. Im trying to position a flash file at
the center of the top of the page, and at the bottom of the page.
but for some reason its only laying out properly in Internet
Explorer. i was using Project Vii's Screen Layout extension. For
some reason in Firefox the layer at the bottom of the page is
positioned strangely. like it is too low or something or that its
trying to position at the very top of the layer instead of the
bottom - i want the bottom flash file to overlap the top one when
clicked - u can take a look. check it out in IE and Firefox.
    anyhelp is greatly appreciated.

Get rid of the Layout Designer and take a look at how I did
    it here -
    http://www.murraytestsite.com/mainswf.htm
    It's way simpler.
In addition, I'm not sure what you are describing, but could
    this be your
    problem?

  • Flash Header Position Displaying Incorrectly in Firefox

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can assist me.
I designed a website in Fireworks CS4, then exported "CSS and Images" and brought it into Dreamweaver CS4.  I deleted the header "placeholder" and inserted a Flash SWF header of the same size.  Everything is displaying correctly in IE and Chrome (I haven't checked Safari yet), but when I view the site in Firefox, the Flash header is both a few pixels up and a few pixels to the right of where it should be.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Meb

    Hi PZ,
Thanks for the reply.  Here's a link.
    http://nazarproducemarket.com/index.htm
I should add also that I did have to modify the "hspace" for the Flash banner by 3 in order for the site to display correctly in IE and Chrome.  Of course, if I remove that, if may be better in Firefox, but then it would be incorrect in other browsers.  Plus, this wouldn't seem to explain why the banner is also displaying a few pixels high in Firefox.
I believe I am only using Div tags and no tables, but I am a little new to this, so I may be wrong.
    Thanks again,
    Meb

  • Help - positions right in Firefox - not ie

Thanks for any help in advance. I'm still learning.
The problem is the swf positions almost correctly in Firefox
but distorts my whole page in IE. Any guidance would be greatly
    appreciated. The url is
    http://www.bmwe3014.org/lucascav/indexfl.html

This is not a flash issue - it is an html coding issue.
Remove the flash content and replace it with an image the size of
the flash content. It will still be distorted in IE. You might want
to go back and rewrite the html code from scratch and get all the
measurements correct before inserting the flash elements. This is
good practice and it will help your html skills.

  • My college has informed me that firefox 7 is not compatable with their online classes and I must go back to firefox 6 but you down load of 6 will not let me it is trying to force me to upgrade to 7 how can I get 6 back?

My school (Highline Community College) as advised me that firefox 7 will not allow people to use the (Angel) online e-mail system. I need to stay in contact with my teachers. They said don't get firefox 7 but I already have it. They said go back to firefox 6 which they even provide a link for but when you upload it it says this is an old system click here to get 7. I already have 7 and know it will not work. How can I get 6 back.

I have the same problem. It was literally snuck in as a simple update and suddenly I couldn't upload any of my assignments. You can get rid of 7 by going to control panel and removing the Mozilla file. then look for the FF 6 upload. I warn you though. It REALLY wants to be 7. Don't allow any updates to happen or you will be in the same position.
I like Firefox and it is truly disappointing that they would force this situation. My nest step is back to IE 8 which wants to be 9. Arghh!

  • Placed image position change

I have a few images placed into my website.  The positioning changes between chrome, firefox, and the biggest change in IE.  Is there any way to avoid this?  www.jarminlaw.com  the bottom quote marks under testimonials.
    Thanks!

I have checked the home page on all the three browsers that you mentioned and they all look same to me.
If you still see the issue with the image placing, I will suggest that you group them together with the text or content above or below it. Grouping usually fixes most of the alignment issues.

  • Firefox does not open on-screen - looks like it scrolls off to the side.

When I mouse over the Firefox icon, I can see that the window is open, but when I click on the icon, the window does not open onscreen and it fades in and out of the right side of my screen. Runninf Firefox 7.0.1, Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks

After clicking on the Firefox icon on the system task bar so that Firefox is selected, you can use WinKey and the left or right cursor key ( "WinKey+right-arrow") to place the window on the right half of the screen, then adjust the boundaries in the normal manner. If you have multiple monitors repeat (3 positions per monitor) until Firefox is in your current window.
On other Windows systems or if you have turn of one of the Windows 7 features, you can use "Alt+SpaceBar" to move/resize the window.
Also see the following article, you may have an extension that is causing problems, so refer to the article for more information.

  • Firefox starts hidden (window not visible), but stays in process list. IE9, Opera, Chrome works just fine

Yesterday my Firefox 4 just stopped working. When I click on firefox icon - new process appears in task manager list, but I can't see firefox windows. After killing firefox.exe process I can start another one, but still no firefox windows are shown.
Tried to re-install (with deleted profiles and whole installation from Program Files folder). Tried 3.x and 4.x versions, no luck. This is no window focus problem (or it's position outside the desktop) - firefox.exe process starts, but no GUI objects are created (checked with sysinternals procexplorer)
Computer is well anti-malware and virus protected. Reinstalled newest NVIDIA drivers (WHQL), all updates from Windows Update. I've been reading that there was some prob. with NVIDIA drivers (9800GT), but this just happened suddenly - without new updates or installed programs - just during the day...

I'm having this same problem and here is how I got to this place. First, it doesn't happen every time. About 50% of boots will Firefox not work. (The process starts, but no window opens.) I have an SSD that is smallish... 64 GB running Windows 7. It is a machine I built myself. I have about 11 Gig free at any given time. I have a 2 Tb secondary drive where I keep my data and some, less used, programs. This is also where I keep my virtual machines (VM). I currently have 2 linux machines. Last night, I tried creating a Windows 7 (W7) virtual machine with an extra copy of W7 that I have. Well, I forgot to switch the target VM install area from my system disk to the secondary disk. When I realized what I had done, the install was almost finished and I had about 1 GB left. I worked to kill everything and delete the W7 VM. (That was a time consuming pain. PC was as slow as mud, which was to be expected, I guess.) So, after I got the W7 VM deleted everything seemed to be alright, until I tried to start Firefox and it wouldn't. Thunderbird 3 also won't start. As well as Norton Antivirus. I haven't tested any other programs; however, IE will start. As will Photoshop, Wiper.exe, CCleaner and Windows Media Player. I have my machine locked down; so, I'm confident it isn't a virus or malware. (I ran a full scan yesterday and this morning - when I got Norton to start.)
I'm not thinking this is directly a Firefox issue; however, any help would be appreciated. Heh, I don't have the time or the will to rebuild the software on this machine. I do have a backup, but I've never had much luck getting those to work properly.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Firefox 4 is not for me as it is; lost all my toolbars and just could not get on with it and have had to go backe to 3.6.16; let me know when you have made version 4 more friendly

Downloaded version 4. Lost my toolbars, back button et.c Home button in the wrong place and could not move it and without requesting it I ended up with Yahoo which I did not want. • In the About Firefox Help window what does, "You are currently on the default update channel" mean?

Firefox cannot perform an automatic update when running as a normal user on my system (it just spins when connecting to the update server) so normally when it notifies me of an update I run the application as root, open the About Firefox dialog and select update Firefox.<Br>
I was recently notified of an update to Firefox 7.0.1 (or 7.1 not positive) so I ran Firefox as root and opened the About Firefox box.<Br>
This time instead of showing me "An update is available. Click here to update." it displayed "You are currently on the '''default''' update channel".<Br>
    What does this mean?<Br>
    <Br>
    Thanks,<Br>
    Adam.

Mine says "the '''release''' update channel" on Windows. I believe this helps you know whether Firefox is checking for new official releases or new beta test releases. I don't know what '''default''' update channel indicates.
A web search indicates that '''default''' means no updates. To change your update channel, check out this article:

    Hi Preran,
Sure, I can share with other users but I am not sure this solution was the best, but it works for me.   Somehow something about Dreamweaver is very complicated to use and understand- just in my opinion.  All I did was to add another div box outside of the 3rd text box which I created as div box (also did it for the 2nd text box since they aligned close to each other).  I know it shouldn't be needed since the text box is already a div box itself and my 1st and 2nd text boxes were okay.
Preran- please see my other question posted and maybe you can help?  Thank you.

  • Flash plugin with firefox 3, no sound [SOLVED]

    Good morning.
I would like to report a problem that I have with the flashplugin in firefox. I installed it using the nspluginwrapper-flash 9.0.124.0-1 in AUR. It works, but I get no sound at all. It tries to load the 32 bit flash plugin because it is in /usr/lib/mozilla, but I have the wrapped version in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins. The relevant error seems to be the no soundwrapper.
You might notice that I am running KDE4 svn but I don't think this has to do with the problem.
Did anyone have a similar problem?

I would check the installation of nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash because lib32-alsa-lib is listed as a dependency in the nspluginwrapper-flash PKGBUILD and so should not have to be installed manually.  Also, did you run "nspluginwrapper -v -a -i" as your user and not as root after installation?

Try right-clicking on the Firefox bar in the Task Bar ''(bottom of the Windows desktop display)'' and select Maximize. The browser window should snap back into position. Then close Firefox using File > Exit, When you start Firefox again that should be fixed. If it isn't, try deleting the '''localstore.rdf''' file in your Profile folder with Firefox closed. The file will be re-built when you start Firefox. <br />

  • Web page truncated in print preview

Print preview on this web page is truncated in the middle of the comments.
Internet Explorer 11.0 is worse, omitting the comments entirely.
Chrome 37.0 print preview is quite good with a few minor errors. And the print function includes PDF file output, exactly what I was looking for.
I am a long time Firefox fan so it is painful to have resorted to installing Chrome.... :-( :-)
Are there some config change(s) I could make so the print preview would be complete?
(Maybe it's the content that's causing the problems? :-D)
    http://www.gayguys.com/2014/08/young-gay-guys-becoming-attraction-older-men/

This is a tough one. The Facebook content is in an iframe (inline frame) and due to the style rules in the frame, or something about the way the frame is positioned in the page, Firefox is not correctly paginating the full iframe content.
There are lots of cases like this where Firefox stumbles in its print layout. Often a little hack solves it, but in this case, I don't see a quick fix.
You can print the comments in full as follows:
right-click the Facebook content > This Frame > Print Frame
In the print dialog, you can start on page 2 (e.g., 2 to 99) to reduce the duplication. (Due to text size difference when printing the FB content outside of the frame, there was still some overlap in my test.)

As with others - I'm pulling what's left of my hair out after 3 or 4 days trying to fix or workaround this problem!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • CSS - background image repeat-y

    Hello,
QUESTIONThis works great in IE v6.0. How can I get the
background position to work in Firefox 2.0?
Instead of a tiled background that I can control where it
begins to tile within a DIV, in Firefox 2.0 it displays
the image once and doesn't tile like it does in IE. Argh!
    background-image:
    url(images/SideNav/side_nav_bottom_repeat.gif);
    background-repeat: repeat-y;
    background-position: 0% 218px;
I just went through a CSS training video and applied some of
    the things taught.
It was very helpful thanks you. However it worked in IE but
    not in Firefox.

Is there a work around for Firefox?

Zero is zero no matter what units you have on it. I am not
    aware of any
    mixed unit issue like that.
