POSIX error

Hi,
I have a problem connecting my iMac to Talktalk broadband. The broadband connection worked fine initially, but I then connected to the apple software updater and updated to all the latest versions, including iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.0, iWeb Update 1.1.1, Mac OS X Update Combined (Intel) 10.4.9, iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1 (which had some difficulty in installing), and Security Update 2007-004 (Universal) 1.1. My computer (1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac) will now not connect to the internet via broadband, though it will still connect via my old dial-up modem. The people at Talktalk assure me that the line is OK and that my DSL modem is working. I've tried rebooting, resetting the modem, everything Talktalk could suggest. Is it possible to de-install the upgrades to see if that is what is causing the problem? By the way, when I try to connect to the server admin page, I get the error message 'The error was "POSIX error: Permission denied" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:13)'. Does this give any clues?
Many thanks if you can help.

Hi,
For anyone who has had a problem of this sort, I think I've discovered the answer. There is a program on my machine called NetBarrier X4 which gives firewall protection, detects Trojans and spyware and so on. Even if you disable it, the program reactivates when you restart the computer. It turns out that my modem/server gives an occasional ping flood, especially when it is switched on. NetBarrier detects this and interprets it as a hostile ping attack (worse than Klingons on the starboard bow). It then puts the server's IP address on its Antivandal Stop List - a sort of ASBO on your server - and when you try to connect, it gives this POSIX error. The remedy: go into NetBarrier and find its Antivandal menu, then click off the Ping Attacks detection option (and if necessary, remove your server from its stop list). Touch virtual wood, this seems to have cured the problem. Let me know if anyone else has the same experience!

  • Hi, I have a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro and I keep getting a POSIX error when trying to format my new harddrive. Help?

Hi guys, one day I turned my MacBook Pro on and it was frozen at the login screen, so I did a hard shutdown and restarted it just to get a blank white screen that didn't change. So I took it to the apple store for a genius appointment and they diagnosed the problem as a failed hard drive. So I got a new hard drive and bought snow leopard installation disc since I didn't have my original installation anymore and installed the new harddrive. I go to disc utility to erase it and create a new partition on it so the Mac will recognize it as a viable option to install snow leopard on, and I get a POSIX error that says: "the operation could not be completed. Cannot allocate memory."
So I call Apple and I'm told that it could very possible be the hard drive cable which is failing me here and not allowing the connection to the HDD. So I ordered the appropriate one on Amazon for my make and model (can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004VSZCL4/ref=ya_aw_oh_pit)
A lot of the reviews say a new one of these cables fixed their problems with the POSIX error, so I'm wondering what you guys think of this? And if you have any other ideas that could help out?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Zachy,
    It goes something like this...
Put your new drive in the enclosure. Use Disk Utility to format it, etc. I'd give it a slightly different name than the original. Let's say you have Old Disk and New Disk as your drive names. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy Old Disk to New Disk. Now you should have an exact copy, which you can test by rebooting and holding down the Option key. Choose New Disk from the list and let it boot, make sure all is well.
Shut down and physically swap the drives. Take Old Disk and put it in the enclosure. Now your system has a new disk with a lot more space and you can reformat your old disk and just use it for large files or whatever.

  • Carbon and POSIX error codes

    Hi,
Where can I find Carbon and POSIX error codes and their explanation?
I'm specifically researching POSIX error 102 and Carbon error -1401
    Thanks

Check the list in /usr/include/sys/errno.h. The descriptions are sparse but clear.
As for Steve Krawcke and his google-fu: this page is the top google hit for "posix error 102". Way to go... You could have at least posted the actual full search URL for people. Try to raise the quality, please.

  • POSIX error: Connection reset by peer

    Hi,
I have the following error appear when I download images from a website and get this error in the download palette:
POSIX error: Connection reset by peer
Does anyone know what this is?
Is is the website causing it or my Mac?

If it only happens from a given site, then it is the site. If it happens all the time, then it is either your Internet connection or your Mac.

  • Posix error snow leopard bug

I guess this issue has been occuring since Leopard.  A drive goes bad and it needs to be reformatted but Disk Utility in Snow Leopard refuses to erase the drive and or partition it because of a posix error --  Cannot allocate memory.  This is a major problem if one wants to fix (zero) a drive.
I, fortunately, had my old powerpc desktop running Tiger and disk utility did what snow leopard didn't, it cleanly zeroed the same malfunctioning drive.
If any apple engineers are reading this, could we have a fix for this lingering bug?
    thanks

    Thank you.

  • Safari - POSIX Error

I have just recently encounterd the following error in Safari which prevent me from opening any website in Safari 3.0.4:
POSIX error: Cannot allocate memory² (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)
I use Entourage for email, and I am able to use an older version of Internet Explorer to access the Internet so my Internet connection is fine.
In addition, software update doesn't work because of an alleged network connection error.
I tried reseting Safari, and re-installing individually from the recent 10.4.11 Combo update, and I also tried re-installing the whole combo update but neither worked.
    Please help?!

    Hi,
Do you have any proxies enabled in the System Preferences -> Network settings?
If so, try turning them off.

Follow both the solutions in [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6637319] of first restarting the ipod, if that doesn't help, then reset network settings.

  • Safari - POSIX error 12 - cannot allocate memory

I am trying to use my ipod touch for the internet. When I try to go to a site I get the following error.
    Safari can't open the page.
The error was: "Operation could not be com0pleted.
(POSIX error 12 - Cannot allocate memory)"
    (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)
How do I get past this error

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest rebooting your iPod. This isn't the same as turning it off with a quick tap to the button on top. Quite often a reboot of a computer will clear up a temporary memory issue. From the ipod touch manual:
    Press and hold the
Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red slider appears,
then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo
    appears.
Hope this solves it and you don't see the error again.

Do you know where to find the list or errors and correction?
How do you know on Safari if you are connected to the network ?
On my settings I got an IP address and all the parameters.
    Thanks for your help

Are there any others that may be recent or ground breaking?  Is it possible that Tiger is simply at the end of its lifecycle?

I use Tiger everyday as my main OSX, no such problems, though there are no Software Updates for Tiger for a long, long time.

  • POSIX Error "cannot allocate memory"

    Hi
When I try to run an update or open Itunes I get a note appearing saying "POSIX Error "cannot allocate memory"....
I have looked in these forums and tried to ring Apple with no luck, I am also reasonably computer illiterate.
The only thing that has been done differently is that a friend connected his Iphone to get music
Does anyone know how to rectify this?
    Regards Simon

Usually this specifies a networking problem.
A solution one user found on another forum was to set his modem to bridge mode and turn off automatic proxy. I don't know if that will work for you but I don't think it would hurt to try.

  • POSIX Error- Allocating Memeory

When trying to access the web from Safari or IE, I get 'POSIX Error: Cannot allocate memory (NSPOSIX Error Domain:12)'.
Can't figure what the issue is.
I can access the web via Netscape, so I figure somethings up with the system settings.

I'm having this same issue, but it's a little more particular, and it doesn't seem to have to do with my proxy settings. It's tied, rather to a particular IP address.
I get the error when trying to SSH there ("ssh: connect to host x.x.x.x port 22: Cannot allocate memory") or browse there ("The error was: “POSIX error: Cannot allocate memory” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)"). I have had this happen once before, and a reboot solved the problem then. This time, it didn't work.
Any suggestions that fall short of a reinstall would be appreciated. I have to add a static route to access this host normally, so maybe a routing file got corrupted?
