Possessed Font !!!

Hi...
I've had my G5 since last November. At that time I did some funky stuff like changing font settings in Safari and Mail. One of the fonts I set things to was Andy. This is a font I've liked in the past but it showed up small and I wasn't able to read anything. Someone here told me what to do to get rid of it. It is no longer anywhere I can find on my computer. funny thing is that every once in awhile it would show up in my yahoo home page.
Now my BIG problem. Last week there was an update that I downloaded. Since then "Andy" has taken over my computer. It's showing up in my emails... many safari pages.. I can no longer read my yahoo home page !!
I've searched every where on my computer for it and can't locate the font. i deleted it months ago. Does anyone have any ideas ?? I'm going crazy here !!!
Many thanks to anyone that can solve this problem !!!
Holly
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'll be curious to know if that works for you, Holspen. I also have a mysterious ghost font that I can't get rid of, but mine doesn't show up in Font book at all.

  • Font weirdness! Is my iMac possessed?

I added some fonts from work, and coincidentally added another user account.
Now when I use Firefox in either account, all the fonts are bizarre; one is a ding of some sort, another is some kind of foreign font.
And when I use Safari in the new account, I can't get the "normal" fonts. They're not as bizarre as Firefox (they're readable), but they're not normal.
I've tried finding the fonts and turning them off in Font Book, I've tried changing the fonts in the browser prefs, but no luck.
I also used Pacifist, in order to install the original fonts from my install disc without a complete archive and install; it did it, but gave me some error messages:
_An error occurred while writing the resource fork for the file ./System/Library/Fonts/HelveLTMM._
_An error occurred while writing the resource fork for the file ./System/Library/Fonts/Helvetica LT MM._
_An error occurred while writing the resource fork for the file ./System/Library/Fonts/Times LT MM._
_An error occurred while writing the resource fork for the file ./System/Library/Fonts/TimesLTMM._
I'd appreciate it if someone with more brains than me could help me figure out how to fix these fontgoblins...

The fonts giving you an error message are hidden in Panther and Tiger. These Multiple Master fonts are used by Preview in particular to mimic the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Not being able to write the resource fork data could be an indication that the hard drive's file directory is damaged. If you have it, boot to your Disk Warrior CD and repair the hard drive.
Along with removing the two bad boy fonts Klaus1 indicated, download and run Font Finagler to clear the system's font cache files.

  • Need to create PCL that doesn't reference the resident device fonts

    Greetings SAP folks,
JSYK where I'm coming from on this...I am a print/data stream guy.  I know little about the workings of SAP.
The workflow of the customer is......SAPscript to PCL to IBM's AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) to IBM IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream) to a Kodak Press Controller.
The basic issue is this....the fonts being used from beginning to end must all be of the same typeface or font family and the glyph metrics must be as close as possible.  If not, the results are character and word spacing issues (too close together or too far apart).
To be more specific, the issue is that the customer has specified Helvetica, Times and Courier fonts in their SAPscript and after I dump of the PCL escape sequences, it shows me that Universe, CG Times and Courier fonts, respectively,  are being referenced.   The PCL is then transformed by another application from the queue into IBM's AFP which is then routed to their z/OS mainframe and into a JES queue where a functional subsystem called Print Services Facility (PSF) transforms the AFP into a specific printer communication protocol called IPDS that is used for printing on the Kodak press.
The Kodak customer that I'm working with has SAP R/3 4.6C running on AIX and the issue that we are having is that the  generation of PCL must contain the correct PCL font family name or must contain a soft font with the correct font family (typeface) name and the correct glyph character attributes.  From all that I've read about SAPscripts, printer device drivers, OTF files, uploading and accessing soft fonts, it would appear to me that there must be a switch or PCL escape sequence that can be set somewhere that tells the PCL device driver to use the soft fonts or use the typeface name and font metrics that are contained in the PRI file (HPLJ4100).
What I'm seeing in the PCL, I would interpreted that the application did not supply enough information about the font and based the font selection hierarchy from the HP PCL5 Reference Guide,  the font reference being placed in the PCL is that of a "resident" font and not what we need.
I have in my possession the 1984/1985 Adobe PFM/PFB files and FontLab Studio so that I can create TTF's and/or AFM/INF files for uploading.
If there is a switch to turn on or attribute to set that enables soft font downloading or something that tells the PCL device driver to use the font metric information contained in the PRI file, that would be good to know.  Otherwise, I need to know if the SE73 documentation is the correct path that I have to take in order to get what they need.   Keep in mind that they are running on AIX and not Windows.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Dear Sean, my new hero...
This worked beautifully... it is actually a better solution than what I was trying to do, which would have created a huge, 100MB .exe...
Your suggestion is exactly what I was hoping I could do... it even protected my Photoshop files in the directory. (I'd never noticed that "protect" option before!!)
Thank you so, so much for your help!!!!

  • Fonts going wonky on web page - sporadic substitutions

Don't find anything that addresses this in a search:
I have some weird things happening since I've moved a site from iWeb 1x to 2x.
One, is that my fonts are being substituted sporadically on SOME of the pages.
This is happening even though they were always good before I moved to iWeb 2.
So I have to suspect something being a problem in iWeb 2.
Its a phenomena I've noticed on machines that possess all the appropriate fonts.
(Otherwise some pages would not be showing up correctly).
    Ideas?
Another I noticed today - that only 1 of my 3 web galleries now shows up on the page.

    addendum/update:
The site would not come up correctly even after closing & restarting the browser on a G5.
Went to an intel machine - it came up - excepting a different one line of text went generic there.
The page was not that graphic-intensive.
Predominantly using Bradley, Marker Felt as display fonts.
These are the ones with problems.
However, after going to that machine - and then returning to a G5 PPC - now the additional galleries show up.
I doubt its a memory overload. This is a recent phenom.
After loading up some little adsense windows.

  • Why does Outlook change font mid email?

    Hi,
Using Office 2013 Outlook, and pretty much every email I type starts off with my predefined font of 'Times Roman' and every single time I start a new paragraph it changes to 'Calibri'
Also, when I start some sort of bullet list, the font changes again.
    Is my Outlook possessed?
    thx

    Hi,
Please check your AutoCorrect settings in your Outlook 2013:
Click File > Options > Mail > Spelling and Autocorrect > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type > Apply as you type. Please uncheck Built-in Heading style and Date style.
Under the Automatically as you type selections, check Format beginning of list item like the one before it. Click OK to save all changes and check whether the issue persists.
If it doesn’t work, please update your Outlook to the latest version and start Outlook in safe mode to have a try.
    Thanks,

  • How do I re-set Font Book to factory settings?

Hi everybody, hopefully you can help me...
Just received my Refurbished iMac 21.5-Inch 2,7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. Have loaded all my software, no problem. However, I stupidly and what on earth possessed me to do it I'll never know...dragged 11,000 fonts from an external back-up disk directly into font book late last night. It was verifying all the fonts and flagged up any potential corrupt fonts, I now don't seem to be able to even open Font book without it trying to locate all 11,000 fonts. Is there a way of deleting all of these fonts and doing it properly or re-setting Font book to it's original state. I can't access the preferences on startup as Font Book seems to want to find all the fonts first and i just get a whirly wheel in the bottom right hand corner...I've also tried to locate the fonts in 'library' etc but  they don't seem to be there which makes me wonder of Font Book is stuck in some kind of limbo...this is a monumental FAIL on my part I have to say.
    Any Ideas???
    Many Thanks
    Dave

    User fonts, those not require by the OS, are in two locations;
    Mac HD/Library/Fonts
    ~/Library/Fonts
I would see if the 11M+ fonts are in ~/Library/Fonts first. If so drag them to the Trash and restart.

  • Where did my installed font go? How do I get it back?

I downloaded a special font for use in a title for a book I was publishing in November 2013 called "Slender Gold". It came up as an option after I installed it on my computer and I used it through Photoshop Elements 12 to make titles for my books, "A Wild Tiger's Heart" and "The Tiger's Cub", but didn't use it for about a year.
When having to rewrite the back cover of "Cub" this morning in order to get the printing started (as I had put the book description too close to the top of the printer's template), I opted to use the same font on the back as I had on the front. Unfortunately, it's not coming up, so I reinstalled, thinking that perhaps my recent attempts at speeding up my computer had marked the font file for deletion....
The reinstall didn't return the font to the list in Elements, however, so I'm at a loss as to how to get it to show up, as it just appeared automatically the first time I installed it.
Is there a way to bring the font back into Elements, or am I going to be forced to put the description on the back of my cover in another program?

When I posted this, the font was available in every other program - except Elements. I had restarted the computer three times, thinking that it might need a restart (as that was what did it before), but no luck, so I wrote for help.
I'm starting to think my computer is possessed, even though this particular desktop is less than a year old, as I went in to work on a poster on Friday, and when I clicked on the Text box, the font that popped in on the window at the bottom of the Elements screen was the one that hadn't been there when I was trying to find it on the 12th. I'm hoping that, when I get a chance on my next day off to finish my cover, that the font is still there for me to use.
Thanks for responding, and I'll be bringing in a priest for an exorcism before I bother you again....*grin*

  • How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse?

How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse - is it an update to load, a stand alone, how does it interface with Muse? I've updated to CC but have no info on this.

    Hello,
Is there a reason why you want to use Edge Web Fonts with Adobe Muse?
Assuming you wish to improve typography of your web pages, you should know that Muse is fully integrated with Typekit. This allows you to access and apply over 500 web fonts from within Muse. Here's how you do it:
Select a text component within Muse, and click the Text drop-down.
Select Add Web Fonts option, to pop-open the Add Web Fonts dialog.
Browse and apply fonts per your design needs.
Muse also allows you to create paragraph styles that you can save and apply to chunks of text, a la InDesign. Watch this video for more information: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/using-typekit-with-adobe-muse/
Also take a look at these help files to see if they help you:

    http://helpx.adobe.com/muse/tutorials/typography-muse-part-2.html

    Hope this helps!

  • How do you invoke Edge Web Fonts?

Assuming this is available in this release, how to you bring up the Edge Web Fonts capability?

    Hi Phil,
You should be able to trigger the code hints manually anywhere in the font-family value by pressing Ctrl+Space.  It should also pop up automatically if you type "," followed by a space anywhere in the value.  Are those approaches not working for your code?  (If so, please post a snippet of your CSS here so we can investigate).

  • How do I use the Japanese fonts in Font Book in a Pages document?

How does one use the Japanese fonts in Font Book in a Pages document. Pages has its own fonts but I cannot get the Japanese fonts into it.

To type japanese on a computer you change the keyboard, not the font.  Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and add Japanese/Kotoeri to the list, then select Hiragana in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen, then type.  The font will take care of itself.

  • How do you use edge web font in Edge Reflow?

By default, I don't have a lot of fonts. It's just viewing a few of them.
How can you get the web font for Edge Reflow? Can you use font from fontbook?
Is there a way to download Edge Web Font?

Above: using Brandon Grotesque (web use font) does not display the correct font.
I'm using Typekit and have an internet connection. If I switch to a "desktop use" font, it shows up, so I'm guessing the "web use" only fonts won't show in Reflow. A little frustrating when you're trying to get an accurate preview/determine best font styling because of the back-and-forth workflow.
Above: using Source Sans Pro (desktop use font) does display the correct font.

Have you tried to use google fonts? I have used them and they work for me.
When you add your font for example:
    Copy paste:
    <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Finger+Paint' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    and then for font family.
    'Finger Paint', cursive;

  • My Excel with PowerPivots acts weird, it hangs when i try to change font color

    Hi
I am facing a weird issue using PowerPivot in my workbook, there is a worksheet named Charts in my workbook and all the charts i am using resides in that worksheet. Whenever i try to change the font color in that sheet, my excel's color palette goes blur
and then everything just freezes and turns black. This problem is happening only with Charts worksheet, when i try to change the color in other sheets, it works just, the problem is only with Charts sheet. File
size is 16 MB, there are just 10 pivot tables with some calculations and some calculated fields. There are no add-ins other than PowerPivot.
    Thanks,
    Shanker

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, please provide us more information to assist you better.
Do you receive any error message?
Which Excel version are you using?  Excel 2013 or other?
Which workbook format are you using? XLS or XLSX?
Are you performing any specific task?
According to your description, this issue seems only occur with the special worksheet "Charts".
Firstly, I recommend we copy all of the content to a new/blank Excel file to test.
If it works fine, this issue might be caused by the "Charts" workbook itself. We'd better check the "Charts" workbook. Or re-build the file with a new workbook.
If it still makes Excel hang with a new file, this issue might due to the content. Please check the content first.
Secondly, we could follow below KB to troubleshoot this issue:
    https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2758592/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
Thirdly, if the issue still exists, we may try to collect the Event log and App crash dump file to do advanced troubleshooting.
    Event log:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-Event-Viewer
    App crash dump file:
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing
    it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\EXCEL.EXE]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
    Then, open Excel
to repro the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
To further help you, please upload this file into Skydrive and shared the link here.
Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

  • Problem with duplicate and/or outlined fonts in Macintosh

If you are using Frame for Macintosh and you find you have duplicate Arial and/or Times New Roman fonts, or, if these fonts show up on the screen as outlines, the problem may be that you have the 2.9x versions of these fonts, the latest as of this writing (31 August).
You can find older 2.60 versions on the Apple OS 9.2 Install CD, deep in a Microsoft Internet Explore install folder (a Sherlock search will find them).
DEAD LINK, LEFT HERE FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES: In case you're interested, you can find the 2.9x versions at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/office2001/fontsupdate.asp. The page says "New Apple Macintosh versions of Times New Roman (2.91) and Arial (2.90) This update includes a fix for a problem that prevented certain characters from being printed on PostScript level 3 printers", so I'm hesitant to say that you should not use these newer fonts at all.

i had been running the program inside Netbeans.
Running the jar using the command line outside
Netbeans i have no more problems... Does Netbeans use
it's own JVM?Depends how you set it up, but look under the options. There are settings for the compiler and jvm that it uses.
