Possible Blocked Port Halting MSN Messenger Connection?

Hi everyone,
I have been running MSN Messenger for months on my Macbook Pro without any problems. The other day at work it was connected as always and I got disconnected. When I tried to reconnect, I kept getting an odd message saying that my sign in details were wrong (they're not). Other people in the same room are still able to access MSN Messenger, just not me. The problem is that even at home now on my home network, I'm not able to connect to it there either. I still get the same error message. Around the same time I did download AIM to use also, so I'm wondering if this has caused a problem or if it's something else. I've looked around online and a lot of people seem to think it's a blocked port 1863. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this so I can get MSN up and running again? Thanks in advance.
xx

Hi,
Is good to know that you were able to find the workaround. Actually I was on the lab testing this due that I noticed that you had 2671 bypassed requests. Definitely bypassing authenticated traffic is going to resolve the issue, but I also wanted to recommend you to try another solution.
Add these commands to the CE:
- http cache-authenticated all
- http cache-cookies
and remove the bypass auth-traffic command.
This would allow the CE to cache as much as possible of the transaction. I tested and it works just fine and the CE is seeing cache hits.
As a side note, I noticed that the messenger goes on port 80 so you don't have to worry about the port 1863.
Thanks & Regards,
Jose.

  • MSN Messenger on Macbook Pro

Hi, I'm considering buying a macbook pro. I currently have windows xp laptop. Is it possible to have a msn messenger with hotmail accounts on Mac's???

    Hi,
    Yes.
The Mac version that is currently available as a download of MSN Messenger does not do Video chats though.
There is a beta of version 8 that is supposed to that you can access on the Microsoft site. (reports in the Comments on the page are mixed).

  • Acrobat connect pro Vs msn messenger

    Hi,
I am making business plan an online digital teaching school. I wanted to center my virtual classroom tools around acrobat connect pro.
Someone i hired for advises just told me that msn messenger can do most of what acrobat connect does (pertaining to virtual classroom):
voip, whiteboarding, file sharing, screen sharing, screen controlling, application sharing, etc.
On top of that msn messenger is free.
Do you think that his analysis lacks something? I mean it looks a bit beautiful to have all these for free while i would normally pay acrobat connect
45$/month/host !! If i can remove 540$/year on my business plan iam surely excited to do, but i need to be cautious and ask what would i miss? What kind of pitfalls to anticipate if i switch msn for connect on my business plan?
Simply put how would you compare connect pro to msn messenger, why would connect pro be a best suited tool for my virtual class then msn?
Thank you for your inputs as they will help me make a better business choice.

I'm having a similar issue with my iMac. I was connecting fine to all microsoft services, and suddenly, with no change to the mac (that I'm aware of,) I can't connect. The problem extends beyond adium though. I cannot connect to hotmail, or login.live.com either. I just get network timeouts. It has nothing to do with my router, or dns, as my girlfriends macbook are setup on the same wireless router, with the same dns, and she can connect fine.
Things were even stranger with I thought to try a web-based proxy to connect to hotmail, with success.
It almost seems like my iMac has ports firewalled, even though it is turned off. Do you have a similar experience?

  • Trouble connecting to MSN Messenger server, despite internet working

Sorry, this probably isn't in the correct section but I've been trying to connect to MSN Messenger for the last day or two. Normally I would just leave it and let it fix itself. However this hasn't resolved the problem. I normally use mercury messenger, but have since tried to connect using alternatives such as the official MSN software, amongst others.
I've reset the computer, deleted & reinstalled all the software, disconnected from the internet and set up a new user account, but the problem still seems to be happening. Using mercury messenger I get the error message "unable to connect to MSN server", while MSN messenger simply says I may not be connected to the internet.
Could someone please advise what else I could try, as I use MSN as a cheap way to communicate with friends!
    Thanks,

    Hi there!
I'm assuming everything on the net is working normally except for MSN? Does sound strange...where exactly is Warwickshire? Is there a possibility there are some MSN network problems in your area? I wouldn't expect so many different apps to be giving you a problem...
As for alternatives Adium is really a nice choice on Mac because you can connect wth any IM protocol. The disadvantage is you can't do video. Anyways with the real MSN Messenger you can't video either...that's why Mercury and also aMSN are popular alternatives...
    Let us know,

  • How to block yahoo messenger and msn messenger

Hi everybody hope u r doing find,
please I want to block user from using yahoo messenger and live messenger; for that I have an ASA 5510 like perimeter equipment, all internet trafic passing through this ASA; in the same time, I also want to block internet traffic what I did by blocking http and https traffic, but I thought that by blocking these two types of traffic, it will also block yahoo messenger and live messenger but it is not the case
I am looking forward to hearing you.
    Thx

Inspect IM supports MSN Messenger 7.0 (Build 7.0.0816), Yahoo Messenger 7.0.0.437.
The option was to use http inspection to drop msn packets using port 80.
We provided this config. for the customer and he confirmed that it works.
    regex msn-messenger "^VER [1-9] MSNP[1-9]+.*\x0d\x0a.*MSNMSGR.*\x0d\x0a"
      class-map type inspect http match-all http-msn
       match request method post
       match request body regex msn-messenger
    policy-map type inspect http http-msn
       class http-msn
         reset log
    policy-map global_policy
        class inspection_default
         inspect http http-msn
    I hope it helps.

  • FTPEx: 425 Possible PASV port theft, cannot open data connection..

    Hi All,
I am getting the below the error while comminicating to FTP server.
Delivery of the message to the application using connection File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Possible PASV port theft, cannot open data connection.: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 425 Possible PASV port theft, cannot open data connection..
This error is random. Some times service is working is fine and some times its failed to process.
Can any one suggest me the peramnent solution for this.
    Thanks & regards,
    Kartikeya

    Hi
The reason for the error is
The ip address (+port) is not same for both these operations
        - Control connection
        - Data Connection
Changing active/passive mode settings might help (as a common solution).
Problem can occur due to below settings,
       - FTP server/ Firewall on its side (affects Passive Mode)
       - FTP client/ Firewall on its side (affects Active Mode)
After Initial Control connection is made, the below happens for Data connection
When Active, the CLIENT opens a dynamic port for DC on which it would be listening, for the server to bind its source port
When Passive, the SERVER opens a dynamic port for DC on which it would be listening for the client to bind its source port
when the firewall on Server side does not have these ports open, you get the above error.
The error could be because of other reasons also, but I suspect that the dynamic port is out range of the ports opened at your FTP server firewall.
So now I think you are one step forward to fix the issue

  • Client to connect to msn messenger

    hey all,
i'm starting a project to develop a java client that can connect to the msg messenger service. it needs to have a buddy list that shows who's online, chat functions, and file transfer functions. i was wondering if anyone could get me started and point me in the right direction. whats the outline of my program, how do i implement the different functions, etc. thanks.

Well, I suggest a couple of years of learning Java first, otherwise you'll just become one of the idiots here that think they can make programs without learning to program first. Besides, msn messenger probably has a very obscure protocol since I recall there being some competition between the messenger services (compatibility issues and such).

  • ITunes store, MSN messenger, Software Updates, Dropbox cannot connect

I've never had a problem with this computer. Recently installed Leopard, and it worked beautifully for 2 weeks.
Now, iTunes store, MSN messenger, Software Updates...basicly any apps that are dependent on an internet connection cannot connect to the network. HOWEVER, I can connect to the internet (and browse the web in Firefox) just fine. No problems there at all.
I get error messages, such as (in iTunes): iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The Network connection was refused.
I do not have a firewall, I tried to created a new admin account to see if it was just my account that was corrupted, but that also didn't work...
I'm hoping someone has a clue what I should do...

I too am having a problem. It seems to have started after the last Software Update to my MBP.
Although I am connected to the internet, my MSN Messenger for Mac won't connect.
I get a message saying "Sign in to MS Messenger failed, because the service is not available, or you are not connected to the internet".
I have checked that the service is available,(it is) and I am connected to the internet.
The funny thing is, after failing to connect with my MBP, I tried my iMac, and that too wouldn't connect.
When I tried the iMac again this morning, it was OK, but as soon as I try the MBP, the problem appears again, and then the iMac won't connect either.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Hello there,
I would like to say, you are not alone. I have upgraded to live messenger 6.0 tonight. And fail to get online from this new version as well.
I don't think its our mistake. But there must be something wrong with the software. Curious whats the solution, or if they will release a new version....

  • MSN messenger over ACNS

    Hi,
Is there any way to make the ACNS to allow msn messenger to connect through it.
For a reason a blocked the default port for MSN (1863) to force it to use the port 80 so the traffic is directed to ACNS over WCCP as it is WEB traffic. It's directed but the MSN does not connect.
If i block the port 1863 and stop sending http traffic to wccp the MSN uses port 80 and connects fine.
    Thanks

  • Msn messenger and 10.5.2 unable to login

Hi, I have this problem with two macs (macmini and macbook intel), both with same version 10.5.2 (and same problem since 10.5.2).
microsoft messsenger (msn) is unable to login (same apply to adium or any other if try to connect to messenger.hotmail.com 1863).
Firewall is disable. You get in the messenger log

    2008/05/01 19:40:04.264 Login (0) failed with error: (7.0)
I run a TCP dump and you can see the packages go out to the router but you don't get an ACK status, only RST packets return.
Friends not using Leopard is not having problems with the same version of messenger 7.0 (and earliers).
Problem persists even if in other network (macbook connected to different networks and wireless) so problem is not in the router or ISP.
Is there anything that leopard might be blocking (or broke)..., running "dscacheutil -flushcache" doesn't help and nothing is blocking connections to that port as well as DNS is resolving fine to the right IP for messenger.hotmail.com.
Any one can give me a hint what could I try (without re-installing leopard)?
Any new ideas I could try to resolve the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi I have similar problems.
When connected to my home network Messenger 6.3 and 7.0 connect fine using both the Wifi and the Ethernet port.
However when connected to the office network the connection times out.

  • Msn messenger- cant send files!?!

this has just recently started happening -
when i try to send a file on msn messenger it says..
when i try to send a file on msn messenger it says..
"We could not send this file because the connection is blocked. Please contact your network administrator or Internet service provider; they may be able to enable file transfers."
does anyone know what i have to do or what this means?
does anyone know what i have to do or what this means?
im guessing a box can be ticked in msn preferences or system preferences somewhere?? - any ideas????
    thnx

You are probably using a router or a gateway acting as firewall.
So you have to configure the NAT feature on that device.
ports you have to NAT toward your computer are listed to this page

  • Cannot send email via Hotmail through port 587 with Secure Connection (SSL) set

Something is blocking my attempts to send email (with Outlook Express) via my hotmail.com account. The error I receive is as follows:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
When Hotmail.com first changed over to a POP3 server (Sept 2009), I could send emails through them using port 587, which they require. But then something happened, with no changes on my part, to disable my ability to send.
I have checked and rechecked my Outlook Express account settings. I can send email through another third-party mail account (at 1&1 Internet.com) using port 587, which does not require setting SSL to yes. I can also ping the Hotmail SMTP server via port 587 and receive a response from it.
I connect to Verizon DSL via a Westell 327W modem/router. Clearly it is not blocking port 587 without SSL. Does it have the capability to block SSL traffic? Or is the Verizon server the culprit, not allowing emails to be sent via Hotmail.com?
Two different computers on my LAN have the same problem sending emails via Hotmail.com. I have tried everything the Hotmail people have suggested; at this point they think it is an ISP problem, hence this post. This problem doesn't make sense to me and is driving me crazy. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks.

You can still have your reply address set to your hotmail address. And you don't have to really remember to do anything. Configure your client for the HOTMAIL account with Verizon's outgoing server. It will automatically send via Verizon. You don't reveal your verizon.net address, you are just using their server to transmit.
