Possible Dead G5 Dual 2.0 !!

Hello All,
Just checking to see if anyone can shed some light on what could be a major problem with my DP 2.0 G5 tower, - just in normal use this morning - the mouse froze, unable to quit i shut down the machine, when i restarted there was nothing but a black black screen ( Apple 23"), I;ve tried resetting the PMU button, and was able to get the login screen up, but still no mouse movement, i tried other mice, still the same, but i did notice, that the red laser lights under the mouse were'nt on as normal, they only flashed on if i clicked the mouse - very strange, not sure whether or not it could be a maim board ? Any help would be great

That is a good point about the monitor, but I am not so sure that you are not operating in a safe mode at that point so neither the monitor nor the card may be taxed enough to reveal the problem.
The use of a different monitor, if possible, will help narrow tings down a tad. I am also thinking that sometimes it is not so safe to presume anything
Make sure to have only the video connected between the monitor and the Mac and plug the keyboard and mouse each into its own USB port on the Mac.

But from what you indicate they might still be good extensions where it is simply a matter of the maxVersion not being updated. First check the following...
Go to the add-ons web page at addons.mozilla.com then find your add-on then check to see if what is there is compatible and if it is the same version as you are trying to use. Also go down to the bottom of your add-on's page and click on the "View all Versions" to see if there is something pending for your version of Firefox listed as "Experimental".
Check the developer and user comments to see if there is a solution.

It may work but you will have to try it and see. Are you on a PC or a Mac. you may be able to use two different audio devices with only one copy of Audition open. It will be easier on a Mac since you can make an aggregate device from several different audio interfaces. On a PC it will probably be harder but you may be able to do it if you use ASIO4All as your audio driver and then select the two sets of audio device from within ASIO4All's setup software.

Screen Distoring, Possible Dead Video Card, PowerMac G5 Dual 2.7

I've had my Dual 2.7 G5 since early 2005. It has been a great computer for me over the years. Noisy as ****, but great. A month ago my screen started to distort every now and then (see pics below). The computer would freeze when the screen distorted. Then when I would reboot, the distortion and artifacting would occur even at the grey boot up screen and lock up. With enough reboots it would finally get back to the desktop and be fine for a few days. This no longer works anymore. I haven't successfully booted the computer in over 2 weeks. After the distorted grey boot screen it will go black and all you see is the artifacts, never getting to the desktop. Is this a dead video card? I'm running the stock AGP Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT.

If this is a dead video card, do you have any suggestions for the best AGP replacement. I'm looking for something powerful. All I'm finding are very pricey 256mb cards. I'm willing to pay for a powerful card. Thanks very much. I don't want to give up on this G5!

Agreed, the card is toast.
Look on eBay for used OEM cards, as that is your best bet.
The same card is a good choice, with only the Mac edition Radeon X800XT or X850XT being more powerful.
There is yet another alternative, that in a flashed Geforce 7800 GS, which is THE most powerful AGP card available for Macs.
For the money, a flashed 7800 GS is the best bet.

Possible to do dual display with a mini?

I have an early 2008 Mac mini (Intel) - with the standard DVI connector; using the supplied DVI/VGA adapter to connect to an LCD monitor.
I'm just wondering if it is possible to use two displays with this model and if so, how do I connect the second monitor?

Is it possible to run dual display monitors on a KVM switch between my mac mini and a PC desktop?

I have two 23" monitors utilizing DVI that I currently have plugged into my PC desktop. I'd like to purchase the mac mini and utilize the same monitors for both systems and switch back and forth between the two. So, I'm wondering if it's possible. The only two hangups I can anticipate is dual display capability on the mini (I expect that some adapter will be necessary), keyboard compatibility between the two systems, and finding a switch that will handle all the above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Since I updated my Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion my Macbook (white) has become extremelly slow and have frequently locked.

Not sure if you ever got help with this but I would first make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM and then perform a clean install of 10.8 or 10.9. I have never been a fan of OS upgrades. Especially from 10.6 to 10.8/10.9 since the OSs are drastically different.

Here is the background information on our requirement. Any help would be appreciated.
There are 3 Language parameter fields in SAP.
1. Field PA0002-SPRSL which can be modified in ESS via Personal Profile. This does not force a revisit to the SAP Portal log on screen.
2. Field in the back end using transaction SU3 for default parameters; field LANGU in table USDEFAULTS
3. SAP Portal Logon Screen. The parameter field name is unknown and I would like to know where the field value sits.
Currently the only language parameter that changes screen languages is the SAP Portal logon screen language parameter (number 3 above).
The default parameter is associated with the use of language with data, based on the country value (molga) set in the default parameters (number 2 above).
The personal Admin parameter on Infotype 0002 is utilized during SQL reads by various SAP programs and function modules to extract data that is available in multiple languages. For example, if the field SPRSL is set to DE (German), and the data has a language field such as the text from Country table T100, the German text of the country will be displayed rather than the defaulted language of English for country code 10 (USA).
How will the language issue be addressed?
The language requirement was established in requirement ENFHCM031 in SolMan, and was expanded in APPENDIX-A-ENFHCM031-ESS-Language setting of the requirement.
Basically, the requirement is that USA (English & Spanish)and Canada (English & French) is to have dual language capabiltiies.
The current configurable defaulted language to change the screen to either Spanish or French is by the Country Code and Personal Areas (Company Codes).
USA and Canada default to English screens but the SAP Portal logon (see Appendix A in Solman) screen allows for language changes.
My understanding is that this logon screen is going away with SSO via IDM.
We are being told that technically that the option for the logon screen to remain without entering a User ID cannot be done. Is this true? what is the alternative/solution?

Black dots, possibly dead pixels on my brand new Ipod Touch?

I just purchased a new 4th Gen 32gb Ipod touch from Walmart, there were about 4 black dots, possilby dead pixels upon opening, not even a single smudge on the screen yet, but they were there, so I called and exchanged it for another brand new one, to find the same things this time appearing in the center of my screen. Is this a common issure with Ipod Touchs, or is it just bad luck two times in a row/ what can I do about this? Thanks

Not it's not common. It seems as though you just happened to have 2 bad ones in a row. I would try returning it again either for a full refund so that you can purchase an iPod Touch elsewhere, or exchanging it for another one.

Display problems on Macbook possible dead pixels?

I opened my computer today to find that there is a tiny stripe starting on top of the screen by the camera. It goes all the way down my screen but only shows on the top and bottom of my screen. I can see the full line if I tip my computer a certain way. The line looks green but is flickering. It looks as though the pixels are dead or something. My warranty on my Macbook is definitely up. I bought the computer in 2009, I wanted to ask if there are any quick fixes or if there are any options that won't cost me much. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

[SOLVED] Possibly dead hard drive or bad raid setup...

I have a 4 drive raid5 running. Just recently one of the drives kept removing itself from the array. I have re / formated / partitioned the drive multiple times, but either mdadm doesn't accept the drive, or it accepts, resyncs, and when i try to access the raid it fails again.
I eventually pulled the drive out and plugged it into my desktop machine. That machine recognized the partition fine. However after putting the drive back into the raid i receive these sort of errors on startup:

I have tried using SMART to test the drives, however all the drives seem to fail with some sort of error. I believe this is a false positive as I have read elsewhere that the 1TB Green Western Digitals (WD10EARS) seem to have problems with SMART.
Is this drive dead? Its only a year old... and unfortunately just out of warranty.

Ok so i zero filled /dev/sde, and re-added it back to the array. It synced (for 2 days), and then my RAID5 completely failed. I can't bring it back up at all now. My BIOS says one of the hard drives is dead (SMART error). Fair enough drive is dead. But now i cant get the 3 drives back up and running in the RAID.
I have attempted the following:
sudo mdadm --assemble -vv /dev/md127 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1

Possible dead DVD/CD super drive? Options?

So the problem is that my DVD/CD drive does not even read commercial CD's or DVD's. I can't even hear the disk try to spin. It just spits any disc out after about 45 seconds. for a new drive, and I guess my question is, if this drive is NOT broken, what can I do to fix it, and if it IS broken, is the Apple Genuine SuperDrive DVR-112D-BK a legitimate replacement.

Sure does sound like your existing drive is broken. That does happen and it's usually much easier to just replace the drive rather than wasting time trying to figure out what might be wrong with it. You could try a CD/DVD lens cleaner, but if that doesn't work, then replacing the drive is usually in order.
If I were replacing a DVD drive, I'd go with Pioneer's current DVR-118, not the older DVR-112. The 112 is probably at least three years old. With the 118, you not only get better burn speeds, but you'll also get better compatibility with the current media.

MSI 280 R9 possible Dead of arrival?

Chief complaint: No video signal from DVI/HDMI from card. After installing catalyst, windows will blue screen at login until MSI R9 280 card is taken out of the PCI slot
New build with MSI R9 280, gigabyte GAB85M-D3H mobo (compatible with my card), PSU XFX TS 550W Gold, core i5-4570, and windows 8.1.
Onboard intel integrated graphics outputs works perfectly fine. The MSI card when installed the fan runs, and if I change the bios to direct video to the intel graphics, I can use the onborad HDMI slot for video and still boot up. Catalyst installer then is able to detect my card and be installed. At this point I plugged in my hdmi to video card before the reboot, still no video. After I rebooted, I still had no video (even after switching bios settings) and switched HDMI back to intel gfx. Now when I boot windows up, I get a bluescreen error.
I suspect I have both a hardware issue with the MSI card and possible driver issues that locked windows out of loading completely.
I have changed the gigabyte mobo BIOS around to try out different settings without any luck (changed compatibility CSM on/off, prioritized legacy or UEFI and vice versa, disabled fast boot)
Please if anyone has any thoughts on what to do I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR EXPERTISE. I want to see if I can make this work without RMA'ing it to newegg or MSI.

ok so it could be one of 2 things
1: your VBIOS being used on the card is wrong (it has a 2 place switch near the Crossfire conectors) 1 is a GOP one for windows 8/8.1 and the other is legacy so you could try the other position (move it with the system shut down!)!
2: your Motherboards BIOS so see if Gigabyte has a updated one as usually with newer cards you need to update that to get them to work correctly so that's worth a try!
as for GOP/UEFI VBIOS versus Legacy a GOP/UEFI one is used for windows 8 for fast boot if not it may hold back loading the computer to start if its a legacy one! Legacy VBIOS is usually the one supplied on cards as it may be put onto a motherboard that may not support that type if its GOP!
let me know if ether of the 2 suggestions above work!

Is it possible to have dual boot Tiger & Snow Leopard?

I currently use Tiger. I have one important (and expensive) piece of unsupported software that I don't need too frequently. Does anyone know if it's possible to have a 'Boot Camp' type setup with the option to boot in either OS? I don't want to be 2 versions out of date but I can't do without the unsupported software altogether.

My macbook only had an 80gb hd so after 2 years, I installed a 500 specifically for the coming of SL. With that in mind, I partitioned it in 2 beforehand.
Although I've never done it ( theres a lot about OSX I don't know about being that I jumped from 12 year old macs to OSX recently) but as the other person said, you can go ahead and make a partition.
Its just that when you put in the SL install disk, you'll need to go to utilities first and open disk utilities to create another partition. I don't know the exact instructions on that since I've just made partitions on a fresh drive.
Although I'm not sure if its necessary or not since you already have a system, what I did anyway was to boot from the SL install disk. You do that by inserting it and restarting while holding down the 'C' key. It'll take a while to boot from the disk.
As far as what do do with the install, it couldn't be simpler. Obviously you've already gone ahead and cloned your current system.
Once you have your second partition set up simply click install on the SL splash screen. After it does its thing it'll ask whether you want to migrate anything over from another volume or computer, etc.
It'll have some checkboxes for your 'old' home folder, applications and settings/network.
They all have a drop down menus for further refinement of what you want to migrate...except applications, I think...its all or nothing.
After you're all done, restart and it should boot from SL first. *Verify and repair permissions*
One thing I noticed was that my mac hd's didn't appear on the desktop. So I went and looked in the finder prefs and it has a checkbox to make them appear...which I did, and they showed up.
Thats about it.
