Possible Display problem on MacBook Pro 15''
There is one pixel that shows up as red in the bottom left corner of my display. Screenshots do not capture it. It is present in every program and rebooting the laptop does not get rid of it.
Does anyone know what it is or how I can get rid of it? Should I worry?
Thanks
this is a well known issue, it could affect any LCD or led screen of any computer brand.
I had a couple of laptops with dead pixel + 1 20" Apple LCD.
as the other forum member suggested, massaging a dead pixel could brings it to life. It worked for me on one of my earlier matte screen powerbook, but massaging didn't work with my actual glossy MBP "2010" I got 1 dead pixel a couple of centimeters down from the top end of the screen.
it's annoying but I got used to it.
Got a new MBP on order that should be here in 1 week, hope it's gonna be free of dead pixel !
what worries me most righty now is the dark screen problem that seems to affect the new generation of MBPs. hope it's not a common problem affecting all 2011 MBPs

Display Problem on MacBook Pro 13-In: red blotch when screen is dark/black
I've been having a really weird problem: a red blotch near the center of my screen, visible if the screen is black, or dark background in video playback. It's about an inch off center (right) and it look like a "T" made by a paint brush stroke. When it first appeared (in the same spot to the left of center), Apple replaced the display (in the last year of Apple Care), and it disappeared. It reappeared 4 weeks later as clear lines (in the same spot). They replaced the display again, and it disappeared once again. It happened a third time 4 months after that, and they replaced the logic board as well as the display; again, "fixed." Here's the weirdest part: because, after all this, the computer would not charge, they threw up their hands and gave me a brand new MacBook Pro. That was a month ago, and last night, there was the red blotch again (except now, again, just to the right of center).
I can't find anything like this (online) happening to anyone else, and so far Apple hasn't determined what they think the problem is. I sort of feel now the problem must lie with me. But what could I be doing? I haven't dropped it; I'm just using it for email and reading online.
Anyone have any idea what this might be? Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions.I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.

Display problem on macbook pro
Hi,
I am new user to macbook pro and just purchased macbook pro here in Qatar. Within first week of purchase, the display had a problem. While working it just got corrupt and everything froze. I was not able see anything and need to switch it off.
When I took it to service centre they told me that it is the problem of logic board. which they will replace it within a month?? After looking at various discussions here I am not sure if it is logic board or the software issue. So I updated all the software but the problem still continue. Now I am not able to work more than one hour or so as the disply get corrupt and it freezes(almost 90% of the screen goes blank and remaining 10% is seen but cannot work)
Also I am not sure why it take one month to replace a part. I bought mac book pro to work on my photography but quite diappointed with this first experiance.
Please help. My configugaration is 2.53 core duo processor 4gb ram and 300 gb hard disk.I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.

Display problem in macbook pro 13
I have been facing a display problem in my macbook pro (mid 2010, 13 inch) for more than six month. I talked to many persons from applecare and conformed to their advice. but the problem remains same. I went to apple authorised service provider at least 8 times. they changed my logic board, RAM etc. the problem remains same.
finally, I talked to applecare again. they adviced me to run fresh Lion installation and observe the machine without any thridd party software. I got the same problem.
when I call them, every person attending the call advices me new thing ! they are very polite and say: "if you have this problem again, please inform me." unfortunately, when I write them again about the same problem they do not care it !!!
I am very much frustated and psychologically tired with this issue.
Thanks a lot for your assistance.I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.

Dear all,
I found some problems for using Duo Displays with MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) display and Samsung UHD Display (U28D590). I use resolution on my macbook is 1280x800, Samsung UHD Display is 2560x1440 And Connect with Display port to mini display port.
But I use sometime found always blank screen on Samsung Display and I tried to unplug mini display port and plug it again but it is not working until I shutdown and restart my macbook pro, my display back to working.
I want to fix this problem because it is very trouble for my working a lot.
Thank you very much
PhotThe symptoms I'm getting now, and I'm not sure if they're any different, suggest that for some reason Mountain Lion thinks my display resolution is higher than what it is, as wether I'm turning AirPlay on or off, it keeps changing it (on the MacBook) to what looks like maybe 1080p.

Display problems on macbook pro
I send my macbook pro to a authorized service in Brazil, because my macbook just do not display images anymore, so today they emailed me the price for repairing, about US$1000, gosh what a ****..... help me.
I agree with a brody.
Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro (prev model 2009, 2.26ghz) to an Apple Thunderbolt display: will the cable fit?
Sorry it won't work. It will fit but the laptop can't communicate with it. Please see many of the other threads here, specifically this one just above your post, that is discussing this exact question.
Apple's specs for the ThunderBolt display state that it needs a ThunderBolt-enabled computer. Your laptop has a mini-display port connection so it is not compatible with the new displays. -
Is it possible to mirror the display on the Macbook pro which is two years old to my iMac which is four years old? Macbook pro is running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and the iMac is running OS X 10.6.8 (10K549). Neither of them have Thunderbolt ports.
OK, well I would go with what Apple says in writing but if you want to take a trip to visit the Genius Bar that won't hurt.
Good luck, I'm 99% certain you will find I was correct but please let us know.
BTW when posting please click the Reply link in the post you are replying to, otherwise we can't tell who y our comunication is directed to. -
Can I use my iMac as a 'display' for my MacBook Pro?
Hi all, I am really hoping someone can help me here.
I am wondering if I can use my 24" iMac as a display for my MacBook Pro (both running Snow Leopard).
It's my father's 80th birthday party in about 24 hours time. I am doing up the music and slideshow (thanks Apple - so easy!).
My plan was to simply take my iMac and use it. However, I managed to drop the wireless keyboard (darn those dogs) and now my keyboard won't work. I have no backup keyboards here (gave the wired one to Dad to use with his Mac mini). I live in a country area with no access to a Mac store and it will take more than 24 hours to get a new one. Went to my local 'other computer' general store last night: I really don't want to buy an ugly black keyboard..... I have just had a great idea:
Can I network my MacBook Pro and use it as the source for the slide show and simply use the iMac as a display? I have plenty of DVI adaptors but am just not sure how I would go about the software side of things? Or should I simply buy an ugly PC keyboard (and if I do, will the WIndows button work as an Apple button???)
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks! The imac 24 can't be used as a monitor over a DVI connection or the like, Suzanne, but you may be able to achieve what you want to using "Screen Sharing" by networking the two computers. This lets your MBP effectively control what is running on the iMac.
See HERE for the basic setup. For information about how to access the "shareable" screen from the MBP see HERE.
One possible problem may be actually getting this set-up on the iMac if it is not already enabled, however, unless you can borrow a keyboard from someone (your password may have to be entered to enable it). You may be able to get around this, if necessary, using the "keyboard viewer" (which you can place in the menubar using System preferences > Keyboard, if you don't already have it there).
Cheers

Can you drag windows to the other display?
In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring. -
Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory upgrade to 8 go
Hi from Belgium,
Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory from 4 to 8 go. And if yes would i have to replace both memory modules.
I'm also experiencing problems with the battery. Could you tell me if the new replacement batteries are based on the new techonology (long lasting) or if the replacement battery will be the same as the original one.
Thanks and have a good day.
FrancisHi CMCSK and thanks.
Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.
In fact for the time beeing I only use my computer with magsafe plugged.
I just unplugged the magpower and here are the new figures after 10 minutes.
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 3103
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3491
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 245
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1431
Voltage (mV): 11816
Are these figures still ok ? Thanks for your help and have a good day.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
This, Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70, is the current version of Flash. It should work with Snow Leopard or later. -
Dell U2412M as an external display for my MacBook Pro mid 2008, the clarity of fonts are absolutely unimpressive. The settings do not detect the Dell U2412M (which is grayed out), are there any drivers that need to be installed ?
I have posted this annoying Robles to bugreport.apple.com. Hope I can get locution (although Apple normally will not respond):
On a software name Appfresh, it alerted me to update my MBPr 15 inches running latest OSX 10.8.2, with Chinese Word List Update 1.2. When I clicked on Software Pdate, app Store return No update available.
My system have Chinese Word List Update 1.0 installed, and on October 5, 2012, Chinese Word List Update 1.1 was released by Apple, as alerted through AppFresh. However, this update never get updated on m system. I have to manually download chinesewordlistupdate.pkg from reviews.cnet.com/macfixit and install it manually. By doing so, I have Chinese Word List Update 1.1 on my system.
The same problem occurred again today on November 5, 2012, where Chinese Word List Update is released by Apple. again, it fail to update from Software Update menu.
Can you please:
1. Explain why this problem occurred. This is so annoying.
2. Advise me how can I get this Chinese Word List Date to update to version 1.2. Can you please send me the chinesewordlistupdate.pkg for version 1,2 so that I can manually install it on my system?
3. How can I prevent similar problem with he subsequent version?
Why Apple don't make this update standard as other update?
Support please. Thank for response in advance -

Just buy the proper adapter cord, such as MiniDisplay port to HDMI for example. Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized. Use System Preferences > Displays to set options.
