Possible exporting help for a old mac...

Hi, me again.
Trying to find a way to burn my 1 hour 30 movie to disk. I've found out that Final Cut Express cannot burn to disk, and to top it off, my copy (that came with my PowerPC Mac) of IDVD won't work either as i don't have a superdrive. Great!
I need to burn this movie to disk to be able to watch on dvd players.
Would it work, if i export the movie as a quicktime movie, transfer it to my PC and burn it on a program such as Premier Elements? Or would the file be the wrong format to play on such devices?
Many thanks.

The only thing that's playable on a DVD player is MPEG-2. FCE does not export MPEG-2. Usually the authoring application encodes the video to the correct format. That's what iDVD does. If you're going to take it to Premiere Elements on a PC to do the encoding and burning to DV you have to tell us what format you're working in.

Hi, I think this'll work if you don't have your Tiger Install Disk...
    Get the proper combo...
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...

    Get Pacifist...

then extract/install what you need from your Install Disc.
Search for Safari, then Install the whole Safari.app on the left.
    Then update it to 4.1.3...

  • Help for an old iMac

    Hi,
I was wondering. I have an old mac OS X 10.1.5, 192 MB, and can't afford to upgrade. I have iTunes 4.7 but I cannot buy songs in that version. Is there anyway I can download an iTunes version to get songs?
    Thanks.

Well, go to software update ( Click Apple button - click Software Update...) and see what updates you have. I think you can update your iTunes up to 4.9. (Not sure of that...that OSX is unheard of anymore...) I know for sure that it can be updated to 4.7.1.
According to Apple, Itunes 4.7 was the first one with support for music downloads, but not video. So either way you should be able to so. I am sorry, but that OS is really old, and it wasn't popular in the first place. I hope I helped though! I completely understand your financial position (Look at my imac....), but you really do need to think about upgrading to at-least OSX 10.2, or 10.3....as i don't think it will handle Tiger. They are BIG improvements over 10.1.5. Hope I helped!

  • Please help with opening old mac AE file on a pc

    Hi,
With the latest version of AE on a pc I tried opening older mac version .aep file created I believe in 1999. I had very little hope so I wasn't surprised to see this message:
"After Effects error: this file was created with an older version of After Effects [3.0 (Macintosh PPC)], and can’t be opened. You can convert this file using an older version of After Effect and resaving."
It is not clear which version should be used, Pc or Mac, and if at the end that file could eventually be opened in thet latest AE on a pc.
I will greatly appreciate any help with this.

    Thanks Mylenium
Rebuilding is not an option. It is a lot of work and I need this as a portfolio item. I created a promotional interactive CD with Macromedia Director in 1999 for a sign company. I created 19 short animations for it with After Effects 3 using old PPC Mac.  I haven't used After effects since then but recently several new clients asked me if I can make animations from that nature. So, I'm trying to use my old work as a demonstration of my creative skills.  The problem is that the animations were rendered tiny with 309 x 228 pixels to fit in the interactive interface of the presentation intended for the small monitors used at that time. I took the animations from the interactive CD  and using the latest AE on a pc, I created a rough composition with running the animations one after another. To make the animations a bit larger I scaled most of them to 320 x 240 hoping it will look better.
In my archives I have the project files and all .ai vector graphics used for the animations. I still have the old PPC Mac retired somewhere in the closets and installer CD with After Effects 3 and 4. I thought it would be great if I can somehow open the files in the latest version on a pc but if not I guess I have to take out that old mac are render to higher resolution using this ancient machine and AE version. And I'm wondering if all this is worth it.
I will appreciate any tips, advices, things to be aware, etc, and how to make this looks better on YouTube.
Oh, and another question by the way, I haven't been current to the animation software for a long time and wonder if this kind of presentational animations are best suited for creating with Flash or After Effects is still OK?

  • HELP! My old mac was requested to upgrade Firefox to 14.0.1. After the sucessfully installation, I received a message saying my old Mac couldn't use the new Firefox and Safari crashes. I have NO browser now!!!

My old mac was requested to upgrade Firefox to 14.0.1. After the sucessfully installation, I received a message saying my old Mac couldn't use the new Firefox and Safari crashes. I have NO browser now! Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm...  So you upgraded Firefox and now neither Firefox or Safari will work?  Very weird.  I have no idea what might have gone wrong.  That said, when things start acting wierd, I always try a bit of maintenance first.  About 95% of the time, I luck out and it works.
I use the free program Onyx.  I run all the clean up routines.  Then I boot to the recovery partition (Lion) or the OS X Install Disc and repair permissions and verify/repair the hard disk.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help for a novice mac user

O.K. I've been a very satisfied Mac user since I switched from a PC last February, so much in fact, that even though my iMac 24" 3.06 is only 9 months old, I'll be getting a new i7 quad. My question is this: I now have an iTunes account on my mac and my wife has her account on her PC. I'll be giving her my old (if 9 months is old....) mac and was wondering how the itunes accounts will be transferred? When I open iTunes on my new mac will it recognize my old account and how will my wife go about getting her account from her PC to a mac that previously had my account on it.
Sorry to appear so stupid, but hey..I'm new....lol

The account is just a sign on. She would simply sign on to her account.
The music is a different thing. The itunes store does not keep a copy of your music for you online.
You buy ONE download, then it is your responsibility to backup your music. You should both have your music backed up. You can use this backup to move the music to the new machine.
Migration assistant (comes with every Mac) on your new mac will do this for you -from the old mac to the new one.
Your wife will have to copy her music from the pc and then move it to her new Mac.

  • Different names for my old mac

I want to move my documents, address book data and music from my old Mac G5 to my new mac mini. The old computer has my husbands name, the new one has mine. Will that make problems for the transfer? I 'm transferring by cd. How do I go about that?

No, the person whose name the computer is in is irrelevant to transferring files.

  • Premiere CS6 exporting AAF for Smoke on Mac

I have been trying to export a sequence from CS6 for Smoke on Mac.
The problem has been the paths to where the media is located is incorrect. It is point to the folder where the audio is for that clip and not the video.
When I check the metadata tab, it all looks fine there.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I had the exact same problem with Premiere Pro CS6 (running in 30 days trail mode), but on a Macbook Pro (64bit kernel, 8GB mem, 2010 Macbook Pro,  Mac OS X Lion). See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4380045

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

  • Java help for an old MacBook

I need some help, please.  I have an old MacBook - Mac OS X version 10.5.8 - and I have zero money.  Health wise, I have large spaces of time when I need to be still, for meds to work.  My sis gave me a membership for Pogo and the games really helped a lot with the still times.  Now, I keep getting Java messages that I need to update my Java -  -  - and I'm afraid that my ol' Mac isn't up to the task anymore.  At least, I've tried to update many times - but I wind up having the same problem.  Do I need to uninstall something and reinstall? (how would I do that) Am I just SOL?  Or do you have an idea that would work.               I've asked this question on other forums and have gotten some guy who wants $80 to $100 to tell me how to fix it, but as I said, I have zero money.  If someone has an idea, please let me know.      Thank you so much.

I assume the MacBook is Intel? (-About This Mac from the menu bar)
Java should update through Apple Software update FOR FREE. (-Software Update from the menu bar). Oracle no longer offers a download that will run on Mac OS systems lower than 10.7.
The direct link to download the latest Flasj=h Player that will run on OS 10.5.8 is: Flash Player 10.3.183.90 (Mac only)
Unfortunately, that may not work with Pogo.
If you truly do have "zero" money you may be SOL.
If your Mac is Intel and you can possibly spare $20 (I'm not  asking for it), Apple sells OS 10.6 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard) for $19.99 and they ship it for free.
Everything you have will "Migrate" to the new OS with the install, but you'll be able to run a lot of software that WON'T run on 10.5

  • Installing XP on Boot Camp help for 1st Generation Mac Pro

    hi all,
i am trying to make my way through the documentation so that i can get WINDOWS XP back on my first generation Mac Pro since i need to run some programs for work. the old drive that i had this information on was running Snow Leopard (I believe) but it has died.
i have a formatted Fat 32 drive in Bay 2 and i am running Lion on my OS drive in Bay 1 and i am hoping someone can point me to the correct URL for doing this.
my understanding is that i need to use Boot Camp 4 but there appears to be a number of different versions of 4 and i am also having a hard time remembering /how/ to do this. i guess i download the Boot Camp 4 version that i need to my OS drive in Bay 1 and i somehow install this on the drive in bay 2? then i insert the XP disk and it automatically installs itself on this drive?
do i have to do something special with drivers?
ALSO, is there anything to be careful about if i have a PARTITION on the drive in Bay 1 that contains a Boot Camp of Windows 7?
    TIA

I would always have a wired connection, even if you generally want/need to use wireless.
I am not up on Airport or how to install.

USB ethernet has never been a real option on Mac OS X.

You can download most updates manually, very few that require using Software Update, so it is possible to download in Windows.

  • Wireless help for Aiport on Mac O.S. 10.5.8

    Hi
Aiport on my Mac (10.5.8) no longer seems to recognize my home hub 2 as of Friday afternoon (26th Nov). Everytime I enter the home hub password, it comes up with the message "invalid password". Ethernet works fine. Wireless connects to windows pc. Have tried resetting hub and shutting down/restarting computer many times.
Have heard that this might be related to a security update from BT - is that likely to be possible? Or should I contact Apple?
I have been using this hub/Mac combination for the past year now without any problems.
Any help (and hopefully not too technically challenging) will be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi all,
I managed to solve this problem by - using Airport wireless assisstant and *unchecking* the "store password in keychain" box - I have no idea why this worked, but I thought to post it here in case anyone else has the same problem. I also removed all references to my home hub in Applications/Utilities/Keychain access/system and restarted my computer before entering the password as above.
    Hi there,
It's quite possible that the entry for your wifi password was corrupted in keychain.
What I'd suggest you do, in addition to what you have done already, is to go to "Disk Utility" in "Utilities" (Here on Snow Leopard 10.6.5, the path is Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, but it should be a similiar path on Leopard) and run a "Repair Disk Permissions".
    I hope this info helps.
Edited to give more consise info.
