Possible faulty Ipod 80gb

I got my new Ipod, & it turned on the first time but since thrn it wont turn on. I had it on charge for 4 hours with no luck, have tried the reset many many times, nothing happened. Now the ipod is sitting on the desk, not on charge or anything & the screen keeps flashing on & off, nothing actually displayed on the screen though, just it lights up & goes off again, making a funny hissing sound! Any ideas/tips woud be appreciated before i return it as faulty!!

  • ITrip not working with iPod 80gb

    Hi
I've just purchased an iPod 80gb video and so far its great. Unfortunately my old Griffin iTrip doesn't fit on my new iPod so I had to get an iTrip which connects via the dock. The iTrip doesn't want to turn on however and I've tried turning my iPod off and on but with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced problems between the new iPod and iTrip or could it just be my new iTrip is faulty???
    Em x

I had just two weeks ago purchased the iTrip (Dock version) for my 30G 5th generation iPod, and it already ceased to work. I followed all the instructions (reset iPod and what not). I think it's a piece of junk, and overpriced.

Genius bar says possible faulty HD, but I suspect logic board. All checks out OK on the Apple Diagnostic bench. Can a Logic board go intermittant?? Any Ideas any body??

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

  • Help with Ipod 80GB (detailed message as to what I have tried) error -50

Originally I had downoaded some music and put it into itunes and synced it with my brand new Ipod 80GB. Everything was fine. I deleted my songs from my hard drive and itunes. A few weeks later I had a new batch of songs that I wanted to put onto my ipod through itunes. There was a message saying there was a new version of software available and I downloaded it and everything haywire.
Now, here is what happens every time I hook my ipod up to my Dell using windows xp.
    1. I plug it in and it tells me my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option.
    2. I get back a message saying ipod cannot sync with an unknown error occuring -50
    3. I tried apple.com's approach to fixing this error message on windows xp by copying these files into notebook and opening them:
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
    4. after letting that window close it instructs that I now open itunes and hook up ipod and restore things.
    5. After hooking things up i get the same message as before. my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option again.
    6. I get the same error -50 message.
    7. I repeat the same process of copying those files into notebook and starting all over.
    8. I get the same message "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. This time I cancel the erase and sync and just try to restore. It tells me it has restored and will start again in 15 seconds.
    9. I get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
    10. This time I click cancel and try to update my software from 1.0.3 to the new version of 1.1.
It tells me it has been updated wait 15 seconds and it should be fine.
    11. I then get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
I am clueless as to what to do now. I was detailed so I could hopefully get some specific advice as to what to do next.

    Finally a solution!!!!!!!!!!!
While I tried every option that was passed along here and none of them worked I appreciate the help and suggestions. I took it to the apple store and they fixed it. They said it was messed up because I probably had plugged it into too many different computers but i only plugged it inti one other computer but who cares.
Here is what to do if you are desperate: Most owners know that if you push the menu and the center button at the same time the ipod will restart. WELL!!!! If you can't do anything with your ipod you need to press the center button and the play/pause button at the same time and this will restart the ipod and put it in disk mode. Connect it to your cpu and open itunes. It will erase eveyrhing and reset it from scratch. All the way back to having to name your ipod again. Just a thought for those who don't mind losing their info and if they already have it saved to put back on.

  • Which generation is the Ipod 80GB?

Hello, Anybody knows which generation is the ipod 80Gb?

No, I very clearly said 1st Generation iPod Classic, which comes in 80 and 160 GB. You don't agree?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
Apple actually doesn't refer to the iPod Classic (which is a proper name, and a confusing one in my opinion) by Generations, they refer to the 80 and 160 GB Classic and then the 120GB Classic.
A first generation iPod might be considered a classic, but it is not an iPod Classic.

needed to sync load music videos in the settings

  • Do i have a faulty iPod?

I bought a 30GB iPod with video yesterday. As of today I have had to completely reset the iPod to factory settings three times because it keeps messing up. I will bring it into iTunes and all of a sudden one of the songs wont play, i get little exclamation points by most of the songs...then it gets worse from there, and soon iTunes wont even find it. and every time i do play something on my iPod, it takes it forever to load it. Is this normal?

I am having a similar experience with mine. I got a 5G 30gb ipod for christmas and i have had....2 days of faults, then a major "error" with Ipod. First of all over the 2 days my Ipod seemed to work ok, Itunes repeatedly wiped my music from the Ipod,Windows said the Ipod_prefs file is corrupt,My Ipod Update software wont recognise it and now the Ipod just resets constantly.....I think this is a Faulty Ipod.....

  • My new iPod 80GB is kaput...

Well, finally got my new iPod 80GB Video today after what was an extremely dramatic ordeal with FedEx.
So, I hook the iPod up and yadda yadda iTunes begins transfering my Library to it. Up until about 800MBs, where it tells me that the disk cannot be written to. I have tried transfering both video and audio and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've restored it several times. I reformatted it for UNIX and then back to Mac OS Journaled in Disk Utility. I've Verified and Repaired it in Disk Utility (no reported issues). I've run TechTool Pro's disk tests on it. TechTool is still only part way through its Surface Scan block test and it's found three bad blocks thus far.
Apple Support is closed for the evening.
Anybody know what to do?
    Dual 1.42GHz MDD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1GB of RAM, 640GBs of S-ATA, GeForce 4 Ti... etc.

    This *****.
Even getting the iPod today was a hassle. It was supposed to have been delivered by 10:30, and I opted to be 45 minutes late for work so that I could be here until 10:30 to take delivery of it. When that didn't happen, I had to ask a neighbor to accept the package when it came. 5pm rolls around and I'm checking the order status from work only to see that FedEx didn't even attempt delivery and took the iPod back to the airport sort facility.
I called to find out why and I was told that it hadn't cleared customs for some reason so I couldn't even pick it up. I called back again and was told that my unit was the only one of a 500 unit shipment that had a customs clearance problem, but it was definitely processed through customs and cleared for delivery, but that the customes clearance sticker fell off. And that if the driver had scanned the package she would have seen that it had been cleared for delivery, but she didn't even make an attempt. AND that if the first person I had talked to had bothered to care at all, she would have been able to find out the same thing the second person was telling me.
So after work I had to drive 10 miles out to the airport terminal to get the iPod, then struggle through traffic to get home with the thing only to find that I didn't have a USB 2 card, so transfering my Library over 1.1 was going to take days. So I tried running around town to see if I could find anybody who was still open after 9pm that was selling USB 2 PCI cards for anywhere near a decent price.
After barely making it in and out at Circuit City before close, I got a card and came home... Only to find that the iPod is defective...
    Sigh

  • Is it possible to get an ipod 80gb classic's hard disk replaced?

My ipod classsic 80gb is not able to sync more that about 1500 songs in total. Anything above that gives me an error(50).
Is there any way to get the hard disk replaced?

Yes. You can have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for a refurbished iPod of the same generation and capacity of you can send it to a third party service who can swap out the bad drive for you.
Google for "iPod hard drive replacement" and you should get a number of results to work with.  If you consider yourself handy with small electronics, you can actually purchase a new hard drive from one of the many online retailers for iPod parts and change it out yourself using the step-by-step guides over at http://www.ifixit.com/.

  • Faulty Ipod classic 80gb

I have a 80gb ipod classic, it appears in "my computer" fine and in hidden files there is heaps of music, but itunes doesnt read the ipod and also when unplugged ipod says it has no music aswell, can anyone help me thankyou

Yes - I can see why that's a problem! I had a problem last week with a Windows machine not recognising an iPad in iTunes. I ended up reinstalling the USB driver, which fixed it.

  • IPod 80gb classic not showing in iTunes or Finder.

Recently my Ipod has started to give trouble - it would have difficulty syncing in iTunes (some times requiring 4 or 5 eject/connects before iTunes would recognise it and start to sync).
Then new symptoms started - after connecting the iPod to the mac, the iPod would immediately say "okay to disconnect" and disconnect the iPod, even though I had not asked it to do so.
Now it has gone further - when I connect my iPod to my mac it simply does not show up in either iTunes or Finder.
Any ideas? Could the battery be dying? Seems a lot of people have posted similar problems with their 80gb Ipods on this forum recently but I have not yet found any with all of the above symptoms.
    Hardware details -
    1. Ipod classic 80gb - about 3 years old.
    2. Imac (intel) - just over a year old.

Aye - tried all the steps and suggestions listed in the document but no luck.
Could this be an issue with the iPods battery?
Otherwise I might have to get the nearest apple shop to look at it but i'd like to try all other possible avenues first.
    Many thanks,
    Swift101.

  • New iPod 80gb will not display music videos

Bought a brand new 4th iPod last week and it's my first video, an 80gb to make use of the loads of different quicktime stuff i have including music videos.
Had already updated my Itunes and OS using automatic software update in OS X, then loaded and learned that many of my quicktime movies i kept in iTunes needed converting to be iPod freindly which I did using a combination of QT 7 pro, iTunes, iSquint and ffmpegx. If i set them as music video in itunes i can play them but they never appear in the music video playlist on the ipod, if I make them movie they al llist in the movie window but i get no list by artist or artist details and have to play them one at a time, the one video i have from iTMS does not allow me to change the option from movie to music video the button being greyed out..
at first I thought the problem was me but the more and more i look having reinstalled itunes and restored the ipod the problem I believe is increasingly faulty apple hardware, software or firmware as all my videos can now be played through the movie option .. any one here care to discuss am i right / am i wrong? . .anyone out there watching movies through the music video playlist with a video iPod especially 80gb

needed to sync load music videos in the settings
