Possible fix for AppleTV not appearing in devices

Just read an article I found searching Google http://www.trick77.com/2008/03/16/apple-tv-not-being-recognized-in-itunes/
It states that quitting mDNSresponder in Activity Monitor will force a refresh of the Bonjour scan. Finally, after 6 weeks, my AppleTV now appears in iTunes devices!
Go to Utilities> Activity Monitor> select 'All processes' (drop down-top right) >click on mDNSresponder. Wait about 10 seconds. Then exit Activity Monitor. Close iTunes.
Might be worth unplugging your AppleTV from the power source first (I did this recently). I then reentered my network password on my AppleTV (Settings > General > Network > Configure) and then went into Configure TCP/IP > and selected Using DHCP. I also turned Airtunes to off, Settings > Airtunes > Off. I have read that Airtunes can cause some issues.
I then opened iTunes and waited 10 seconds and it appeared (worked on second time of opening iTunes for me).
Then on your AppleTV go to Settings > Computer, and reconnect your library to iTunes. You should then be prompted to enter the 5 digit PIN in iTunes (on your Mac).
I hope this works for some users!

Oh, and obviously you need to plug your AppleTV back in after unplugging it, forcing it to reboot!

  • One solution for AppleTV not appearing in iTunes Devices list

So, this may not be everyone's problem, but I noticed I was having trouble seeing my AppleTV in iTunes sources list when my iBook (the syncing computer) was on wireless, but not when i was plugged into the router via ethernet.
Perplexed by this, I kept investigating and discovered I couldn't even ping the AppleTV when on the iBook was on wireless, but if I plugged into the ethernet, again - it worked. (the AppleTV connects to my router wirelessly, though for the first big sync I had them both on ethernet.)
Anyhow, I don't know if this is happening in the router, or in the AppleTV, but the solution was ... to change my laptop's name in sharing preferences.
This also changes the bonjour name, and that somehow was confusing either the router or the AppleTV since I guess two LAN IP addresses had the same bonjour name.
I suppose it might also work to force the router to give the same IP address to me whether I'm connected to the router via ethernet or airport. I'm not sure. All I know is, I changed the computer name and now I can ping the appletv when the ibook is connected to the router wirelessly, and the AppleTV appears in the Devices list in iTunes when the iBook is connected via wireless so... I'm happy.

Yeah ,this only worked temporarily. I don't know what's going on with my router and my AppleTV but it's proving impossible to reliably sync to the AppleTV when both the AppleTV and my iBook (the syncing computer) are connected to my router wirelessly. Sometimes, fiddling with the router fixes it, sometimes rebooting the AppleTV fixes it, but invariably, the time comes when I can ping and see the AppleTV from my desktop (connected to the router via ethernet) and not from the iBook (connected wirelessly)

  • Possible fix for Gmail not syncing after recent update

    Hey all,
I've seen at least one person on the forums who's had issues with their Gmail not syncing after the latest update. I thought I would pass along my solution to the problem in case it worked for others. After I updated to the latest version of the iPhone software a couple of days ago, my mail accounts from Gmail were behaving strangely. For one thing, all of my saved e-mails on the iPhone were deleted. For another, it no longer received any e-mail from those accounts. Finally, I decided to test it out by creating a new e-mail account on my iPhone to sync with a disused Gmail address that I had not yet set up for IMAP on my phone. To my surprise, it worked perfectly! Then, after I checked the details of the new e-mail account with those of my existing accounts, I discovered that the incoming server port number was incorrect on the other accounts. It was 995 when it ought to have been 993. When I corrected the port numbers, all of the accounts synced perfectly. I hope that might work for someone else. It was at least worth a post on the forums, I figured. Have a wonderful St. Patrick's day, everyone!

Fantastic! Worked a treat - thanks!

  • Possible fix for "ContentAgent not found"

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, my distributed processing setup has rarely worked. I tried most, if not all the suggestions found here in the forums (forii?) to no avail.
With one last journey through the zillions of log files, I stumbled on this entry which sparked an idea:
Apr 10 09:14:11 Gilligan Unknown[16]: Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(Content\032Agent-09DE8B38-1E41-4CC3-AC35-76138D62BE94.qmp3.tcp.<NAME>.members.mac.com.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
Since I'm a DotMac member, I looked to see if "Back To My Mac" was active, and it was.
Immediately after I turned off BackToMyMac, my cluster started to work, and has continued to work for most of today.
I really hope that was it.
I also hope that this might help someone else too.
    -brooks

Well, after running several jobs through and torturing the cluster by removing and adding nodes (mostly out of necessity rather than for testing purposes) then rebooting the whole lot, I can report that the cluster is still visible in Compressor, jobs are being submitted without delays and are being processed as expected - or at least the behavior is back to what I had pre-Leopard.
With all that said, my Compressor usage comes in waves and the big test is to see if it still works a week after this group of jobs is done.

  • Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7,  losing connection after sleep, restart

Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7, Airport, losing connection after sleep, restart, or cold reboot.
Issue: (For OS X 10.5.7 on iMac5,1, Intel Core 2 Duo)
    =============================================
    - After sleep, restart, cold reboot, even though cannot connect to Internet, but the AirPort bars are still full, as if connected.
    - Losing Internet connection after sleep, restart, cold reboot.
    Possible Fix:
1.Open Network Preference, click on the Location drop down list > Edit Location... > click on the wheel button > Duplicate Location.
a)Select this newly setup location; Use Diagnostic button to connect to the internet. Select Network or enter WEP password if necessary.
b)Test to make sure you can connect to a web page.
c)Go to sleep & wake up.
d)This time, the Airport bar will start to show correctly. Before, it will always be full even when not connected. Now there will be no bars or grey out when not connected.
2.On the left hand side of the Network Preference Window, there is a list of services, such as Airport, build-in ethernet, built-in FireWire, bluetooth, etc.
a)Click on the wheel button on the bottom of the service list; select Set Service Order...; move Airport to the top of the list.
b)Delete any services which you are sure that you are not going to use, such as Bluetooth, etc.
3.Pick one of the locations mentioned in #1, and make it sure it is connected. If not, use Diagnostic button. If you have to select Network or enter WEP password to connect, make it so.
a)Check to make sure you can connect to a web page.
4.Go to sleep & wake up. The Airport bar should be filled up quickly. Try to connect to a web page.
5.Restart computer. Test a web page.
6.Shut down & Start computer. Test a web page.
7.When everything is working fine, you can delete the extra location that you created in step #1.
8.Click the lock on the left lower corner of the Network Preference window to safeguard the setting.

If my assessment is correct, the LIDE 200 driver is version 14.8.1 and dated 26-Sep-2008. It is possible that the driver will not work with the latest version of OSX. I would advise that you contact Canon and ask them the question.
(Removed link because of the way Flash drives the Canon site).
It is not uncommon (though irritating) that devices no longer work when an OS is upgraded. One has to ask the question if (or why) the driver was not written in such a way as to be OS version independent.
    Chris
I spoke to Canon over here in Australia. Not helpful at all. In fact they were about as useful as an ashtray on on motorcycle. Having said that the tech seemed to think that there would be an update soon. But that is assuming that Canon are aware that there is a problem with that Scanner under OS X 10.5.7.

If it is a version 2 ATV, it will not appear in iTunes except where you can select it for Airplay. With the new ATV2, you go in the opposite direction (ATV2 to iTunes) after you have enabled sharing. The ATV1 could both store (sync) and/or stream content. The new one cannot. The ATV2 will appear as an AirPlay device in iTunes and in the iPod and Video areas on an iPhone, iPad, etc.
If your ATV is a version 1, you will have to reset it and go through the setup process using iTunes....

  • Possible fix for errors 11503 and 50

Here's a possible fix for Error 11503 and for error 50.
It worked for me and hopefully it will work for you.
I believe this error is caused by the incomplete downloading of either an update to an app. In my case it was caused by closing the lid on my laptop when I was downloading app updates on a very slow internet connection in a hotel.
Anyway, here is what I did that fixed it completely.
    Close iTunes.
    Go to this folder : /iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads
You'll find tmp files there. Drag them out of this folder to a temporary folder on your desktop. The Downloads folder should now be empty.
    Restart iTunes.
    All should be fine.
If it is, delete the desktop folder with all the temp files.
If it's not, then I can't help further, but that's what worked for me.

Several possible causes from the info you gave
Battery level low - recharge it for at least 4 hours till the full charge sign displays (2 prong icon instead of lightning icon).
Time to Reset the iPod - Press the Menu and center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then let go of the buttons.
your hardisk is starting to give problems, hence the skipping and some song refuse to play. - Do a disk diagnostic - follow this post by tt2.

If you have updated any sofware application in Windows, then follow this Apple support procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
Most likely you have to do all, as the iPod hardisk filesystem would have been corrupted, or else the iPod Reset would bring it to normal operation.
    Good Luck!

    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/18931/os-x-lion-fix-for-wireless-not-reconnecting -when-exiting-sleep-mode/

I have the same symptoms with a 2011 iMac and my Senheiser Bluetooth headphones.

"Success - in the Audio Midi Setup (Applications/Utilities) I changed the output to 2ch - 32bit Float and all the audio works well."
My headphones already had this setting, but internal speakers had 2ch - 24bit... is it a possible explanation ? Time will tell ...

  • D-Link DSL-G624T firmware update has resolved ATV not appearing in Devices

I have managed to resolve the issue that many people seem to have regarding ATV not appearing in Devices by upgrading my D-Link ADSL router's firmware. If you are tearing your hair out and have the same model as me then I suggest you visit the D-Link site and try the latest update entitled V3.00B01T02.UK-A.20060621. I am no expert but wonder whether many of the stated issues relate to compatibility with router firmware and if so it may be worth updating it whatever your brand.

    HI WC,
I expected for you to the the 1st one taking a stab at this thanks for the help!
As I verified your question I looked at the clients connected to both the NG router and this is what the router is giving me. And of course the SNM is the same across the board.
