Possible Fix for Printing Problems in Leopard

I got this information from Mac OS X Leopard Edition book by David Pogue. Here's his possible fix for printing problems in Leopard...Open web browser and enter this address http://127.0.0.1:631. You'll find youself at a secret "front end" for CUPS (Common UNIX Printer System), the underlying printing technology for Mac OS X 10.5. This trick lets your Mac communicate with a huge array of older printers that dopn't yet have Mac OS X drivers. Using this administration screen, you can print a test page, stop your printer in its tracks, manage your networked printers and print jobs, and more–a very slick trick. Haven't tried it yet...anyone who does let me know how it worked!

If you literally "checked" them, meaning the checkboxes, that only affects their visibility. To remove them, select one and then click on the "minus" part of the "plus minus" at lower left.

  • Name change to Minefield when downloaded fix for printing problems

I downloaded the fix for Firefox beta 12 for the printing issues and now firefox name changed and the icon changed. Is this right?

You have downloaded a development build. Beta versions use the Firefox name, but the development versions use the name Minefield. As you have downloaded a development version you will get updates every day. The development versions are mainly intended for testers and developers who need to test the cutting edge changes.

  • Possible fix for slow shutdown in Leopard

After messing with a slow shutdown issue on a mini and mac book pro (clean install and intel on both), I finally found a solution for the shutdown taking anywhere up to two minutes.
I noticed that if I logged out first, then shutdown my shutdown time was back within reason. If I killed any extra processes running under my name before I shutdown it would shutdown within about 5-10 seconds. The two processes that solved my shutdown issue were: ituneshelper and tunnelblick.
It looks like the shutdown issue for me has something to do with the shutdown process somewhat hanging on user processes running when a shutdown is initiated. Try killing non-essential programs running under your name in Activity Monitor and see if that speeds up the shutdown.
For some reason checking the ituneshelper and tunnelblick login items under Accounts did not stop them from starting up. I had to completely remove them from the login item list.
Hope this helps someone out there.

  • I am unable to print to the Lightning PDF software (by Avanquest Software) after updating to 6.02. It worked with the previous version of Firefox. Is there a patch or fix for this problem?

I am unable to print to the Lightning PDF software (by Avanquest Software) after updating to 6.02. It worked with the previous version of Firefox. Is there a patch or fix for this problem?
This is the error that is received:
Cannot open file "C:\Users\Calandra\AppData\Local\Temp\Ask_a_Question__Firefox_Help.pdf". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to say that, but the entire system seems ill-designed.
If I understand correctly, then to add a new Section to a site, you have to subclass SubSection and somewhow integrate that into the system?
I would be my expectation that you only need to subclass SubSection when you tried to introduce a new type of SubSection.
The title & all other natural language Strings should never be hardcoded in Java code, but rather taken from some external storage (Database, XML, flat files, ...).

  • I've only had my iphone 5s for a week. I keep getting an error message of "Server has stopped responding."  I need the server to work. Does anyone know if there is a "fix" for the problem? Other wise, I probably best return for a refund and get a Samsung.

Unlikely.  Based on the complete lack of detail of the issue provided it is entirely possible the same issue would occur.
Unless and until the user provides some actual details of the problem, there is nothing the indicate that the issue is with the iPhone.

  • Is there an absolute fix for the The Snow Leopard Pixelated (Fuzzy) Icon Bug?

Is there an absolute fix for the The Snow Leopard Pixelated (Fuzzy) Icon Bug?

I've never even seen such a thing in SL. That said, it's pretty difficult to understand this so called "bug" without some sort of reference. Do you have a screen shot you could post?
Edit: Never mind. Found more than a few sites talking about this issue. Here's one:

  • Possible fix for errors 11503 and 50

Here's a possible fix for Error 11503 and for error 50.
It worked for me and hopefully it will work for you.
I believe this error is caused by the incomplete downloading of either an update to an app. In my case it was caused by closing the lid on my laptop when I was downloading app updates on a very slow internet connection in a hotel.
Anyway, here is what I did that fixed it completely.
    Close iTunes.
    Go to this folder : /iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads
You'll find tmp files there. Drag them out of this folder to a temporary folder on your desktop. The Downloads folder should now be empty.
    Restart iTunes.
    All should be fine.
If it is, delete the desktop folder with all the temp files.
If it's not, then I can't help further, but that's what worked for me.

Several possible causes from the info you gave
Battery level low - recharge it for at least 4 hours till the full charge sign displays (2 prong icon instead of lightning icon).
Time to Reset the iPod - Press the Menu and center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then let go of the buttons.
your hardisk is starting to give problems, hence the skipping and some song refuse to play. - Do a disk diagnostic - follow this post by tt2.
         https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028567#17028567
If you have updated any sofware application in Windows, then follow this Apple support procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
Most likely you have to do all, as the iPod hardisk filesystem would have been corrupted, or else the iPod Reset would bring it to normal operation.
    Good Luck!

  • Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7,  losing connection after sleep, restart

Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7, Airport, losing connection after sleep, restart, or cold reboot.
Issue: (For OS X 10.5.7 on iMac5,1, Intel Core 2 Duo)
    =============================================
    - After sleep, restart, cold reboot, even though cannot connect to Internet, but the AirPort bars are still full, as if connected.
    - Losing Internet connection after sleep, restart, cold reboot.
    Possible Fix:
1.Open Network Preference, click on the Location drop down list > Edit Location... > click on the wheel button > Duplicate Location.
a)Select this newly setup location; Use Diagnostic button to connect to the internet. Select Network or enter WEP password if necessary.
b)Test to make sure you can connect to a web page.
c)Go to sleep & wake up.
d)This time, the Airport bar will start to show correctly. Before, it will always be full even when not connected. Now there will be no bars or grey out when not connected.
2.On the left hand side of the Network Preference Window, there is a list of services, such as Airport, build-in ethernet, built-in FireWire, bluetooth, etc.
a)Click on the wheel button on the bottom of the service list; select Set Service Order...; move Airport to the top of the list.
b)Delete any services which you are sure that you are not going to use, such as Bluetooth, etc.
3.Pick one of the locations mentioned in #1, and make it sure it is connected. If not, use Diagnostic button. If you have to select Network or enter WEP password to connect, make it so.
a)Check to make sure you can connect to a web page.
4.Go to sleep & wake up. The Airport bar should be filled up quickly. Try to connect to a web page.
5.Restart computer. Test a web page.
6.Shut down & Start computer. Test a web page.
7.When everything is working fine, you can delete the extra location that you created in step #1.
8.Click the lock on the left lower corner of the Network Preference window to safeguard the setting.

If my assessment is correct, the LIDE 200 driver is version 14.8.1 and dated 26-Sep-2008. It is possible that the driver will not work with the latest version of OSX. I would advise that you contact Canon and ask them the question.
(Removed link because of the way Flash drives the Canon site).
It is not uncommon (though irritating) that devices no longer work when an OS is upgraded. One has to ask the question if (or why) the driver was not written in such a way as to be OS version independent.
    Chris
I spoke to Canon over here in Australia. Not helpful at all. In fact they were about as useful as an ashtray on on motorcycle. Having said that the tech seemed to think that there would be an update soon. But that is assuming that Canon are aware that there is a problem with that Scanner under OS X 10.5.7.

  • Do you have a fix for the problem with Avast. Because soon I will just start using IE since Avast has worked fantastic for me. But I would rather not.

    Question
Do you have a fix for the problem with Avast. Your upgrade process notifies me that it is not compatible with Avast so I always delete it. Soon I will just start using IE since Avast has worked fantastic for me. But I would rather not. Please help.

Avast needs to update their Web Rep add-on for Firefox 5.0.
You can look at the new pre-release version of Avast for Firefox 5.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == installed 3.5

    @the-edmeister
Thanks for the advice. In my case, it is sufficient to '''uncheck''' " Saved passwords".
('''''Preferences -> Privacy -> Clear History when Firefox closes -> Settings -> Saved Passwords''''').
    Great to have Sync. :)

  • Possible fix for when podcasts suddenly stop working

Just an FYI about a fix for a problem which a lot of other people seem to have had over the years, without a solution.
My own podcast was working fine for a year (I used iTunes 10 & 11 in Windows 7) and then suddenly I couldn't refresh it  or stream episodes anymore. iTunes 10 would display a '3253 network connection reset' error. iTunes 11 would just show '!'.
I tried different computers (Macs and PCs) in different locations with different internet connections but no luck. Other people's podcasts worked fine. And I could load my own podcast xml feed in a browser and in other podcast software. It was just iTunes that didn't work.
I emailed Apple for some help ([email protected]) and after some back-and-forth they said this:
"It appears the hosting server for you podcast is blocking HEAD requests from iTunes. Please speak with your podcast hosting provider to allow HEAD requests from iTunes."
It turns out my hosting company had recently done a server upgrade and their firewall was indeed blocking it. They changed some settings and it was fine again half an hour later.
So if you have the same issue then it might be something that the podcast owner has to fix, and not a problem on your computer.
    Hope this helps somebody!

    Not on mac though

  • I have an I Pad 1 with 64 gigs. It constantly drops me off the Internet for no apparent reason. Is there any fix for this problem?

My I Pad 1 constantly drops me off the Internet and programs. Is there any fix for this problem?  It started after the last update and continues to get worse.
    Doug

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • I am leaglley blind I use a 5 inch window at the top of my screen to see what I am typing. This version does not let me see what I am typing because the window drops down about 1 to 2 inches, obscuring what I am typing. Is there a fix for this problem?

If there is no fix for this problem, how do I go back to the previous version?

laderamacguy took a look at it and added a black shape over the tab. he suggested i use a different template next time, such as the black template.

  • Does Adobe have a 'fix' for the problem of desktop icons turning into Adobe icons after a previous Adobe update?

After a previous Adobe update, all of my desktop icons turned into Adobe icons. I'm not sure how it happened - I just looked away from my computer for a second and when I looked back, there they were!
Does Adobe have a 'fix' for this problem?  I have had to uninstall Adobe in order to use my other programs, but I teach and I use Adobe documents quite often, so now I can't open those.

Try some of the solutions here ---> Application, file icons change to Acrobat/Reader icon
