Possible forum topic?

CA Forum: General Feedback
Hi...
I'm relatively new to Crystal Reports - but I work pretty exclusively with CR & a program called ScheduALL - a product of VizuALL www.scheduall.com which is fairly widely used in the entertainment industry, but also in other areas as well.  (Unfortunately - it uses an older version of Crystal - v. 9 currently... I'm waiting to hear when I can upgrade past 9 to a more current version.)
I almost never find anything within the search engine for that program, but I wonder if you might get a lot of forum chatter in that regard if you added it as a topic header?
(Just curious).
Thanks!
Best,
Kara aka KJ7

Hi Mounia, I don't believe there's a way to do this out of the box. My suggestion would be to create a discussion board for each topic or use a third party solution. I haven't used this particular one, but can vouch for the company's products:

  • PLEASE, CONFINE YOUR POSTS ONLY TO THE FORUM TOPIC

Please, confine all your posts to the forum topic, in this case,
Oracle 9i Lite. All the other posts (off-topic), should be
submitted to the respective forum. The majority of the messages
posted in this forum are totally off-topic...
    thanks,

Yes, it's correct when you say there is no forum reserved for
Oracle 8i subject, but it's also true that there are more
appropriated forums to post messages about Oracle 8i than
    9iLite! For example: "Administration->Install and
Upgrade", "Database->General", and others more specific - if you
are having trouble in Oracle 8i on a Linux platform than you can
    try "Platforms->Linux", ...
I think this forum ("9iLite") has no direct connection
with "Oracle 8i", if there isn't any issue that joins directly
    Oracle Lite with Oracle Database.
This cross threading out-of-topic can corrupt at middle time the
nature of this or any other forum, and prejudice above all the
few ones that are trying to get the assistance in the right
    forum.

In the past different people using Sun signatures post fairly consistently for varying periods of time. I don't believe anyone ever did it more than 6 months. And that was only one individual. Most of the others don't seem to last more than a month.
And my observation is that those that are doing the posting are not very experienced.

  • Possible Forums Maintenance

    Hello Everyone,
In my discussions with Lithium (our forum vendor) regarding performance, they have suggested some maintenance on the forums that could help with our community's performance.
The maintenance is to "trim" subscriptions and floats (floated threads and boards) for all users in the community.  This means that if you added a message subscription or floated a thread more than 3 months ago, we would remove the subscription and/or float for you.  In long-standing communities like ours, users can build up many subscriptions and floats that can affect the performance of the entire community.
In order to keep the floats and subscriptions that are important to you, you just need to unfloat and re-float the thread, or remove and add the message to your subscriptions again because they will then be newer than 3 months.
I must stress that there is no guarantee that this will have a noticeable benefit for performance, but Lithium has recommended that we try this because it has helped other communities in the past.
I would like to perform this maintenance as soon as possible, but I recognize that it is the holiday season and we must give people adequate notice to take any action they find necessary.  Therefore, I propose that we do this maintenance the week of January 7th, specifically either Tuesday January 8th or Thursday January 10th.
Please post any questions or concerns you have to this thread.
    Regards,
    Laura

    Hi Matt,
    Thanks for the feedback!
I think I may have not made something very clear - this operation is a one time deal.  We do not plan to do this at any regular interval, and if at any point at time that becomes necessary, we will give everyone plenty of notice.  I definitely do not want to silently delete anything
The idea behind "trimming" your subscriptions down to only those added in the last 3 months assumes that most conversations die down by then and become not as important to you.  Of course, that is not always true which is why I wanted to give everyone enough notice to remove and re-add subscriptions that are important to them.
For users that have many subscriptions they want to keep, this could be a time-consuming process.  I will look into whether or not we could just do this operation for floated threads and boards, since people tend to have less floats than subscriptions.
I think once tagging is available to everyone, it can replace some of the use of floats and subscriptions because it allows you to make it easy to find threads and messages again.  Ton also brings up a good point about RSS - I also use this to track particular users.
I'll keep you updated.  I definitely wanted to get some feedback before going through with this operation.
    Thanks,
    Laura
P.S. Ton - I started with the largest boards for sticky (or floated) posts first.... I'll keep going

  • Why Censor Our Forum Topics? Embarrassment?

    Hi folks,
Some of you may be experiencing a problem listening to radio streams in Safari. In a nutshell, after you initiate a live feed, if you then switch tabs or minimize the window, Safari stops playing the stream. It's not related to video, it's only audio streams. It's reproducible, so try it and see.
    Annoying for users, huh?
Safari seems to be the only browser enjoying this idiosyncrasy. Try the same in Firefox, Camino, and countless others and you won't have a problem.
This must be rather embarrassing for Apple too.
Naturally, a lot of people are seeking a solution to this oddity, not least on support forums. Now, what do you make of this?
The following thread was posted recently on these forums:
+"Audio stream stops when I switch to another tab in Safari"+
    +09-Jul-2007 09:12 by: Alex Zachopoulos+
BUT, nobody is allowed to reply to it. At the top is the message:
*"This topic has been archived - replies are not allowed"*
Why? It's an unresolved problem, it's recent, so why halt further discussion?
    Is this censorship?
    What do you think, folks?

    Why?
It hadn't been posted to in over two years. Threads which haven't been modified for a few months are made read-only by the board software itself without any host action.
    it's recent
No, it's not. Check the date on it.
    Is this censorship?
    No.

  • Where are all the forum topics?

When I am in a forum, I only see a few topics. Where are all
the topics that have been added? Under this Printed Documentation
forum, I only see 3 topics.

    Hi there
On the web pages for the forum is a link to your profile. You
need to edit your profile to include more than the default number
    of days.
    Cheers... Rick

  • [Given up] How do you get 'show new forum topics'?

There is 'Show recent posts', but I'm interested in *topics*. Any ideas? Am I missing sth?
    Edit:
The way I do it is rather unDijkstraish, but I'm stupid and lazy and it works for me. I simply bookmark the newest topic f.e.
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=85300
and next time I want to check the forums for some new topics, I enter the next urls manually
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=85301
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=85302
    etc.
I subscribe to topics I find interesting and skip the rest.
When I get a page that says "Bad request. The link you followed is incorrect or outdated." I bookmark it and remove the previous one (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=85300 in the above example).
    Lather, rinse, repeat.

Um, not quite. By "new" I mean "the ones I haven't seen yet", so 'Show unanswered posts' != 'Show new *topics*'.
I want to know what's going on on the forums, did sb posted sth interesting or maybe I can help sb. I've read all the topics (the 'titles') and subscribed to some of them.
Now I'd like to be notified about new *topics* only, because the old ones I have already sorted out: either I'm interested in the discussion and subscribed or I'm uninterested and would like to have a way to disregard them automagically.
The search function is of not much help here.

  • Subscribe to forum/topic

AFAIK on other forums notification for subscribed topics/forums are sent ones for every topic/forum untill a subscribed user gets there. Meaning when you're subscribed to a topic and it gets 10 new posts you'll get only one notification and after you login to the forum and gets to the topic your status is cleaned and again you'll get a notification about all future posts (but only ONE).
I'm subscribed to a forum and got 6 notifications about 6 posts to the same topic. Though I suppose some people read forums from email I'd suggest to make this behaviour optional, namly, send notification about every single post or send a notification only about a first post.

    Hi Roman,
I like your suggestion. We put it on the unfortunate long list of improvements ideas and will work it in as soon as we can.

  • How can I mass delete forum topics

I've tried adding a mark post as spam option and then deleting, but this only deletes the text not the actual topic!
    Thanks.

Either in the Mail application on your Mac, or on the iCloud website: click the top message of those you want to delete, then shift click the bottom message to select everything between them. On your Mac, hit the delete key. In iCloud this may work, or click the dustbin icon.
Then in Mail hit shift-command-delete to empty the Trash (all accounts) or on the iCloud website click on the cogwheel icon at top right and choose 'Emtpy Trash'. This last is not undoable.

  • Possibly off topic: "Adobe Anchor Service": WTF?

    G'day
My CFB trial has finally expired so I am deinstalling it.
I notice alongside the raft of other Adobe applications installed on my machine, there's something called "Adobe Anchor Service".  What's that then?  Can I get rid?
I have the following Adobe products installed, is it something to do with one of them:
    AIR
CF8 & CF9 (am sure it's nowt to do with CF)
    Flash Player plugin & activex
    Flex Builder 3.0
    Acrobat Reader
I've googled about a bit, but cannot get any good answer; most docs on this Anchor Service are other people asking this same question, as far as I can tell.
    Adam

This post is rather old but, I'm gonna attempt to answer. Basically, the service is similar to Abobe's "Switchboard.exe"/"Switchboard Server". A simple "bridge" and/or framework between your Adobe applications. Hence, it won't disrupt your workflow greatly.
PS: This is only my opinion.

  • Where are all the old ITRC topics in this forum....?

    Hello,
I was a great fan of the old ITRC forum and now it has closed, I am using this forum (obviously).
What has happened to all the ITRC forum topics - I thought that they were going to be migrated here...?
    Steve.B.

    Hi,
As an HPCI I found the old ITRC forum very useful.
Most of the useful topics and content do not seem to
be included in this new forum.
    Will this be rectified...?
