Possible Image Functionality - Useful?

It has been brought to my attention that there is an option in the forums that we can enable that will allow image attachments to be immediately rendered as images.  Previously, we did not use this option because it would then try to render all attachments as images.  This has been fixed now so that it will work correctly.
This functionality will not make putting an image inline with the text easier, the image will simply show up at the bottom of the text as an image, rather than as an attachment.
The downside to this is what happens when you edit your message to put the image inline with your text - you will then have two of the same images, one in the text where you want it, and one at the bottom of the post (unless you post it to the image thread).  For one image this may not be a problem, but with multiple images it may be annoying, especially if they are large images.
What do you think?  Should we enable this functionality, or is it not that useful?
Thanks!

I would say that with those limitations it would be better not to enable this functionality, as threads will become really unreadable, because of the very large images a lot of people post. Ideally, people should have a choice for each image and a graphic editor for doing this.

  • Muse crashes randomly when using the place file/image function. And is slow!

    Hi guys,
I am using a MacBook Pro Retina i7 with 8GB ram. I installed the trail version of Adobe Muse and I am really liking the product so far, except that it crashes a lot, randomly, when I sometimes use the place file or place image function. (Command-D) Muse is also slow. I have little apps running, plenty of free space etc but Muse is sluggish, lags and crashes a lot.
Is there a known reason for this? This is preventing me from considering to buy the program.
    Please help,
    Regards,
    Riaan

    Thank you for that.
I will give it a try. Two things I noticed, I do have column view on, but sorted by type and then secondly I am placing images from my Google Drive and DropBox folder..
Will report back once I have had a chance to test it again.

  • How to create PBR functionality using WDS deployment

    Dear sir/madam,
We are a Dutch OEM currently working on deployment and DIS. I have a question about deployment I’m hoping you can help us with.
We were tought to deploy images via USB using the following script:
    dism /Apply-Image /ImageFile:%1 /Index:1 /ApplyDir:W:\
    md T:\Recovery\WindowsRE
    attrib -h -a -s W:\windows\system32\recovery\winre.wim
    copy W:\windows\system32\recovery\winre.wim T:\Recovery\WindowsRE\winre.wim
    W:\Windows\System32\bcdboot W:\Windows /s S:
    W:\Windows\System32\reagentc /setreimage /path T:\Recovery\WindowsRE /target W:\Windows
    Mkdir R:\RecoveryImage
    Copy %2 R:\RecoveryImage\
    W:\Windows\System32\reagentc /setosimage /path R:\RecoveryImage /target W:\Windows /index 1
This works perfectly for single systems. However, since we’re planning on building a lot of units we want to automate installation over network. We’re building a solution to deploy custom images on tablets, laptops and desktops based on
WDS. We currently have a working MS Server 2012 WDS server and several working custom images. The question we have is regarding the system recovery functions (PBR). I’ve managed to automate login to WDS, language choice and disk partitioning using WDSunattend
(see below). WinRE and Recovery Image partitions are created. We can manually select the image we want to deploy and it will successfully install to the Windows partition.

Here’s the problem: I can’t find any information on creating PBR functionality using unattend anywhere. Is this possible? If it is, can you help us find a solution?
Since I can’t find any info on creating PBR using unattend I’m assuming that we have to add PBR functionality using scripts after Windows setup is completed. How do we get this done using WDS?
    With kind regards,

    Hi,
We could use deploymenr scripts to configure the recovery partitions:

  • Missing important image functions - going for Hype

I made a product presentation with a meny system and aniamtions using Edge.
I unfortunatelly found some very important functions were missing.
So I´m going for Hype now, that has got all of these.
So all the job has to be doe again :-(
I didn´t find any feedback area for Edge Animate, so I´m putting it here. The things missing are:
    - Automatic Image optimization (like in Muse)
    - No support for PSD
    - No retina support
    - Can´t replace image, e.g from PNG to JPG (I made it thou by editing the JS-file, but that seems scary)
These are all small matters for Adobe to fix and I suppose they are doing this in the future.
I really like Edge Animate thou, but since it lacks important workflow functions I can´t use it in production.

    Hi,
    Thanks. Yes, that worked.
I actually didn´t find this because in all other Adobe applications, this is done from the Library panel.
I really stress the importance for you to make your/Adobe applications the same. We users love Adobe apps, but are really not liking the unnecessary different solutions in some of them. It´s frustrating and a complete waste of time.
I actually remade the whole animation using (Tumult) Hype.
It´s much easier to work with. Edge seems good to work with Javscript, but with Hype editing Javascripts is not as much necessary since there are pre-made solutions.
You should also look into some things Hype has that is really important:
    - Automatic generation of Retina images
    - Automatic resampling of images
    - Scenes (a very nice way to work)
All in all, Hype is much more efficient to work with.
A thing that I do want in Edge (and Hype) is
    - When using Photoshop originals, it should be possible to set how each image should be exported, i.e as JPG (and setting quality) or PNG.
In the real practical user world, we do only want ONE image to carry around for different purposes, it.e web, animations, videos, print.
And when designing (doing layout) in i.e Edge, I do not always from start know if the image could be in JPG or if it must PNG because it is e.g. overlapping.
The feature of settings export options for Photoshop images, I also would like to see in Muse. As well as Retina support in Muse that i REALLY want.
I like Edge (and really like Muse), but as it is now, selection Hype is an easy choice over Edge.
I hope that you do update Edge to support an extremely good workflow - then I will certainly selected Edge, since I already do pay for it anyway
    Best regards

    Hi, man&mouse-
Please note that there is a way to swap images, though it will try to fit the new image into the old dimensions.
    Select your image element
In the properties panel, look at the Images section
Next to the image name, select the double arrow key
Select your new image (must already be in the Library)

Is there any way I can still use it on my Digital Rebel XT Camera? Let me know thanks Other responses have gone off to explain some other solutions before answering your question. The simple answer is "NO". You cannot use your camera tethered to a computer, controlling it via EOS Utilities software (or Lightroom, for that matter). In order to do that, the camera must have the Live View feature. Your XT (aka 350D, from 2005) doesn't have Live View. There was a version of LV on the EOS 20Da (2005), a more complete implementation of it on the 40D (2007), and among the Rebel-series models the XSi and XS were the first to get LV (aka 450D & 1000D, both introduced in 2008). Other responses are on some right tracks, though. If your primary purpose is to help prevent camera shake, there are several other things you can do, which you may or may not be aware of... - Set a faster shutter speed. Of course, to do so may require a larger lens aperture and/or a higher ISO.  - Get and use a lens with IS (Image Stabilization).- Use flash, it freezes both subject movement and camera shake, approx. like 1/720 shutter speed would, with most flashes.- Use a tripod along with:- - a remote release (RS-60E3 wired or RC-6 wireless)- - or just use the camera's self-timer delay - - and/or use mirror lockup (Custom Function 7) Tripod quality has a great deal of effect. Some are so flimsy as to be hardly worth using. For example, the most stable tripods do not use a center column or, if it has one, the tripod is tall enough to be used without raising the center column much or at all. Materials make a differentce, too... for example carbon fiber is much better absorbing fine vibration than metal. There are a number of other factors that go into making a tripod stable. Do some additional research, if interested. Note: RC-6 wireless release uses infra red and the sensor for it is on the front of the camera. This is certainly useful for self portraits, but may be problematic using this remote for other types of photos. In addition to the Canon RS-60E3 wired remote release, there are other brand remote switches including some that have additional features such as delay timers, interval timers (time lapse), etc.  AFAIK, Canon does not make a timer/controller with E3 connectivity (like the TC-80N3, which will not connect with your camera) Note: The XT's self-timer delay is 10 seconds only. However, when used in conjunction with the mirror lockup feature, it's automatically shortened to a 2 second delay. Note: While IS lenses can make possible handholding lenses at shutter speeds 2, 3 or somtimes even 4 stops slower than you'd normally be able to use... the effectiveness of IS varies a bit from lens to lens and good handholding technique are still needed to get the best out of it. Some IS lenses require IS to be manually turned off when locked down on a tripod. The IS in those lenses can go into sort of a feedback loop where it's actually causing, rather than preventing movement. Don't worry too much about it, though... if it happens you'll see it in the viewfinder and then can turn off the IS. (No harm done to either the camera or the lens.) Hope this helps! ***********

  • Is it possible to re-use Unix tools?

Hi I have done some programming in C on Linux, lately I had some ideas for Mac apps and now I had some questions...
I suppose I'll had to learn Obj-C and Cocoa as that's the standard tool for programming on Mac? Now, what about Unix tools it came with, can I reuse it to some degree? I believe some GUI Tools that OS X came with reuses stuff from Darwin... like how Disk Utility uses diskutil...
So I am wondering, if I want to start programming, what should I learn first? As I said I am comfortable with C and coming from Linux background, I know a fair a bit about Unix, shell script, cron jobs, etc... but I like to know what's the way to make GUI Apps on OS X that possibly reuses functionality from Darwin Unix tools? Like, does Cocoa provides this functionality or?
And I do have set aside some money to invest in a Cocoa book or something.
    Thanks.

    Sunnnz,
One option is to use standard C calls to execute other command line tools, such as system(), fork()/exec(), popen()/pclose().
But if your intent is to build full fledged GUI applications then you probably will need to learn some of the other APIs and frameworks. Cocoa gives you NSTask that wraps much of the complexity of executing other tools into an Objective-C class.
AppleScript (using Script Editor) provides a "do shell script" command that can be used to execute shell scripts or command line tools from within your AppleScripts. However, plain vanilla AppleScript doesn't give you very much versatility for creating a GUI interface for your application.
But, you can also use AppleScript Studio (within Xcode). AS Studio merges AppleScript with Cocoa interface components and allows you to easily create fairly complex GUI applications that wrap calls to command line tools (using "do shell script").
One drawback of using "do shell script" within AppleScript or AS Studio is that you can't create an interactive session with the tool you launch. In other words, "do shell script" expects the tool it runs to run to completion before the "do shell script" call returns control to your AppleScript. In many cases this is not a problem since you can pass the tool or shell script all the command line options it needs and then get the result of the execution back into an AppleScript variable. But if your app truly needs to interact with the other process while it's running then you'll have to use something like Cocoa's NSTask or the lower level C functions mentioned above.

no windows drive direct access. no several screen function. crash when control panel ask me administration right.
os x 10.5 or 10.4 was much easy to control.
plz fix and add good functions of 10.6 , remove good functions is not called 'upgrade'.

  • Image-to-Image Fade Using External Files

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a fairly basic random image-to-image fader.  I've got a LOT of images that need to rotate through and they've all been optimized, however the swf file just becomes too big w/all of them.
So what I was hoping I could do was use AS3 to load up a random jpg from an XML file, apply the fade effect, preload the next one it's planning on grabbing while the current one is being displayed, and repeat the process indefinitely.  By doing this I'm hoping to keep the footprint of the application extremely small.
Is such a thing possible (I'm using a trial of CS5 at the moment) and if so, can someone point me in the right direction?  I'm pretty new to AS3 so any amount of help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is possible to do.  You can probably search Google using terms like "AS3 XML slideshow tutorial" to get the whole thing in one package.  Though what you might want to do is take it in steps so that you can come to understand how each aspect works.
The basic elements would involve loading an XML formatted bit of data into an array and using the Loader class to load the images, using a COMPLETE event listener so that you know when an image is loaded and ready to be processed into an object within the show.
Then you would want to look into using some actionscript tweening to get the alpha fading effect working for you.  Flash has its own Tween class, and there are thrid party tween classes as well. I'd say use the Flash version first just to eliminate one level of complication for now (installing and using an external class). Many people recommend the thrid party tweening classes over Flash's.
You might also want to incorporate some form of Timer (the Timer class) to help manage when things change and/or when they load. If you have optimized your images already, then it would take less time for them to load, which means you probably do not want to use loading status to control the timing, but only as logic to enable timed actions.

  • Images exported using Leopard are soft compared to Tiger.

I've been working on exporting images for client preview and noticed that the images I'm exporting under Leopard seem a bit soft. I checked my export settings and everything looks the same as it did under Tiger.
For comparisons sake, I exported several images that had previously been exported under Tiger and there is a definite difference. Side-by-side, the images exported using Leopard are much softer than the images exported using Tiger. The edits on these images were all previously done using Tiger.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    I'm using 1.5.6 on 10.5.1.
    Thank you!
    Cheers,
    Anthony

Everything looks fine for me from Aperture and LR. I did a clean install of Leopard and all my apps on a Macbook Pro. Are you looking at images in photoshop to compare them? Preview is not a reliable way to check for sharpness right now, since some rocket scientist decide it would be cool if you couldn't scale in set increments anymore, and the randomly scaled rendition can be very soft. As a follow-on to that thought, are the images on your web site displaying at the size you exported them at? If they're being scaled on the web page, and safari is using the same rendering engine as Preview, it's possible that it's making the images look soft.
    hope i said something useful.
    Hi Janet,
Hmmm, perhaps the fresh install is the way to go? I'm using Photo Mechanic view the exported images, not Preview or Safari. I only mentioned Preview in an earlier thread because in other discussions I've found, Preview appears to exhibit some of the same softness that myself and a few others are experiencing with our Aperture exports.
Here's a screen grab of two images rendered side-by-side in PhotoMechanic. The top image was exported using Tiger while the bottom image was exported using Leopard. The actual edits on the image (white balance, sharpness, etc) were done previously in Tiger. The only thing I did to the image in Leopard was export it.

In this example, it's pretty obvious that the image exported with Leopard is much softer. Also note that the file size is slightly smaller for the Leopard exported image.
As for the images on my website, most of them were exported with Aperture under Tiger. Since I've upgraded to Leopard and have been experiencing soft images, I've been using Canon's Digital Photo Professional to export any newer shots I've placed on my site.
Regarding Lightroom, I installed the trial and its exports were flawless. They don't exhibit any of the softness I am experiencing with Aperture.
So, right now, I'm at a loss. I experience this softness on both my MacPro and MacBook Pro. It should be noted that both machines were upgraded. Perhaps I should take some time and do a clean install on one of the machines and see if my results are any different. Or keep my fingers crossed that 10.5.2 will solve my problems
    Thanks for your comments!
