Possible iTunes and CD import freeze workaround

I have been dealing with this problem of iTunes locking up while trying to import a CD. I think I have found a workaround for this issue. I insert the CD into my drive,(do not have iTunes automatically open on CD insert.) and I copy the songs that I want onto my external Firewire drive. (You could copy the files to your own internal drive too. Just don't copy them into an iTunes folder) Once that is complete, I eject the CD and open iTunes. I then go through the import dialog in iTunes to import the files from the Firewire drive, or I just drag and drop the files onto my iTunes library screen. The songs then will import. But I need to go in and then input all the song names, artist, etc. I have found this to work, but I think Apple needs to address this issue since there are alot of posts concerning this problem.

I'm assuming you're using the Finder to pull the audio data (recognized by Finder as AIFF tracks) from the CDs. This is not an optimal ripping method by any means, as absolutely no error checking is possible (audio CDs aren't data CDs so they don't have any built-in error correction information on them), and so on.
Much simpler would be to use Max as your digital audio extractor. It doesn't hang like iTunes sometimes can, it can be quit gracefully, provides robust audio extration techniques, supports full tagging of output files, and even allows for the files to be added automatically to the iTunes library.

  • TS1424 I've downloaded a TV show on itunes and it is freezing up after 10 minutes. I see an error code 3256 - anyone have any ideas about how to get it unstuck?

I've downloaded a TV show on itunes and it is freezing up after 10 minutes and won't play beyond that point. It says error=3256. Any ideas on how to fix this? thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • ITunes and iPod Classic Freeze: How Can I Avoid It???

Sorry if this should have been a part of the longer iTunes and iPods freeze discussion string.
My 80g Classic is in the mail and due to arrive on Friday. I ordered directly from Apple (for the engraving but obviously not as easy to return).
After reading all the discussion about the iTunes freezing issue I have a few questions of my own:
I have Windows 2000 at work, Windows XP on desktop at home and Windows Vista on my laptop. My entire library (combination of original home desktop, smaller work library and a few songs even purchased on laptop) is on external hard drive that I use with laptop.
Which computer should I connect my new iPod to first? My preference is work since the iPod is being shipped here. It arrives on Friday and I want to start using it on a road trip on Saturday.
I'm a Manage Manually kind of guy especially since I have music on three different authorized computers.
Any tips or suggestions that you think will help me PRIOR to actually trying to connect iPod with iTunes would be greatly appreciated!

NO answer is my answer. I guess I can't avoid it. Thankfully I learned to look at the box that says not compatable with Windows 2000.
I'm going to give it a shot with Windows Vista. I have latest iTunes on laptop and my old 60g Photo connects just fine.
Best of luck to us all!

  • ITunes and Aperture import issue - unsolved???

Trying to import photos from Aperture into iTunes, but iTunes shows incomplete album sizes (should be 50 photos, but instead only shows a count of 23..) and as such does not bring in the whole album on import.
I've seen this posted twice here, but both remain unanswered. Anybody find a solution yet? Please???? (My wife is pushing me to solve this...since I switched here to a Mac. Yikes.)

To add to the previews are thumbnails, adjustments, keywords, it all adds up. Everything is stored in Aperture, except the master Files, which does save a lot of space. Reduce the size of the Previews to save more space. Go to Aperture Preferences>Previews and set them to match your screen size, and Quality 8, as a staring point. This makes a difference to the speed of response of Aperture. Also the quality is lower for viewing when off line. If they are always on line there is little need for higher quality previews. Allan

  • Possible iTunes and AirPort conflict?

Just loaded iTunes 5.0.1. The program itself seems to be working fine, for which I am VERY thankful given that many area having problems with it. However, there is one glitch: the AirPort status in the menu bar says that there is no AirPort card installed. However, when I open my Network settings from System Preferences, the AirPort card is working fine, i.e. I can get e-mail, surf the web, etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You might want to take a look at "Airfoil":
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
    from their site:
"Airfoil has always been great for sending any audio to the AirPort Express, but the hardware itself buffers audio for several seconds before playing it. This made it impossible to use Airfoil with video sources, because the video would play back locally well ahead of remote audio. Airfoil Video Player, part of Airfoil 3, aims to change all that.
With Airfoil Video Player, you can watch video on your Mac and send the audio to your remote AirPort Express, and have it all play in perfect sync. Try it out - Airfoil Video Player offers support for dozens of video formats, including all formats supported natively by QuickTime Player, by the Perian plug-in, and by any additional plug-ins you've installed, including Flip4Mac for WMV support. Airfoil Video Player also features preliminary support for DVD playback!"

  • ITunes and Quicktime (need a workaround)

Just made a slideshow in iphoto with a song from itunes. as it finished burning I got a message saying it would only run on a registerd computer. Sure enough when I tried to run the slideshow on another computer it would not run. Anyone have a work around? (slideshow is saved in quicktime)

Export your purchased music to audio CD. This is allowed under the terms of use.
Use the .aiff file in your slide show and export to QuickTime.
-If you export the music to a cd it is still protected and will not play in the quicktime slideshow. Where is this .aiff file?
-Let me explain what I'm trying to do and maybe you can elaborate on how to work around it.
I want to make a slideshow using iphoto and a song I bought from iTunes. I then want to save it in quicktime and e-mail it to a friend. Because of copyright protection the audio will not play when he opens it.

  • Ipod freezes itunes and windows explorer

I have been trying to connect a new 30G Ipod to my Vista computer and everytime I do both Itunes and Windows Explorer freeze. Neither recognize my ipod. I tried to change the drive designation but couldn't because of Explorer freezing. I did run the same Ipod on my XP and everything worked fine so it is a problem with my Vista computer or with the ITunes (7.2.035) software. Any ideas?

Disconnect the printer, use a rear port on your computer and try it again.

  • 3g Nano causes itunes/My Computer to freeze...

My nano is 2 weeks old and works fine by itself. The nano connects and charges fine. As soon as it does, though, itunes and my computer freezes and become unusable. It doesn't show up in itunes and sometimes will show up in my computer as a portable device. I've gone through the 5 R's, reinstalled itunes twice , tried disk mode, different USB...nothing works.
    Any possible ideas?

I just wanted to add that I can use itunes all by itself to manage/listen to my music. My nano also works flawlessly. I keep reading that itunes 7.6 is causing a lot of problems. If anyone from Apple acutally reads these hopefully a newer version is on its way to fix the bugs.

  • ITunes Doesn't Import Entire Length of Track

I'm a DJ and have a music mix that I made (on a finalized CD-RW disc) with one long mix/track that is 1 hour 18 minutes. When I insert the CD into my MacBook Pro, iTunes recognizes the CD, the track and the entire length of the track. When I play the CD, it plays in its entirety. But when I attempt to import the CD, only 1 hour 2 minutes is imported, cutting off the last 16 minutes of my mix. I've tried to delete the file from iTunes and re-import it several times, but keep getting the same cut off version in iTunes.
Any recommendations on how to get the entire length of my track to import? NOTE: I've imported other mixes of mine with tracks just as long and have never had them partially imported.

This may be very annoying to do, but I'd import one hour into AIFF or WAV format. Then, using the track options to set the begin/end times, import the last 20 minutes or so (with overlap).
Then reassemble these in audio software like Audacity or GarageBand or whatever you have that's easiest for you. Then export into the file format of your choice.
I've had to do this before too, but for different reasons than yours.

  • ITunes on iMac imports CDs slow and eventually stops

I have 2 iMacs and one Macbook. Both iMacs are Snow Leopard, the Macbook is just Leopard. Only one of the iMacs has this problem. I'm running the latest iTunes and I take in all Apple supplied updates every week.
This problem existed on the previous version of iTunes (9) and it did not get better after upgrading to version 10.
There are actually several problems, and they are quite bizarre. No other posting in the Forums seems to cover them.
    1) When I import a CD, it starts out OK. Kind of slow, like 3x, 4x but it moves for a song or two. Then the import progress bar stops updating. It seems to freeze. If you touch the mouse, the bar jumps way ahead, or even to the next song. Then it just sits there again. If you move the mouse continuously you can eventually get the thing up to 6x or 8x and it will finish. If you don't move the mouse, it eventually just goes to sleep and never finishes. There is a workaround for this - if you play a song from your library while you are importing the CD then it will eventually finish. The progress bar retains its weird non-linear behavior, but it will finish and eject the CD. It never gets faster than about 8x and my other iMac can import at about 20x.
    2) Sometimes when I start playing a song from my library (not importing a CD at this time) the progress bar jumps all over the place. It will be 30 seconds into a song and then it flashes back to 2 seconds, then ahead to 32, then back, etc. The audio during this time is fine it does not actually rewind the music.
    3) I also have an Airport Express. When I set this machine up to play through the AE it will play OK for 10 or 15 minutes. Then it will just stop. You cannot click anything to make it responsive. You have to right-click on the iTunes icon and do a force quit. Other machines in the house can play through the AE for hours with no dropouts. There is good network connectivity, the machines are only 15 feet apart.
If the problem was just the importing of CDs, it might seem like a hardware problem. But I have these other 2 problems and they have nothing to do with the CD. The only constant is iTunes. The rest of the apps on the box Mail, Safari, Firefox, etc. seem fine. There are no glitches in them.
Should I reload iTunes completely ? If I do that will my library be lost ?
Theoretically I do have a saved copy of the library in my Time Capsule.

This was resolved with a hardware repair. The USB port was shorted causing an interrupt storm and affected iTunes.

  • ITunes 10.6.3 Mac running 10.7.3 not responding I have deleted iTunes and reinstall iTunes and it keeps happening I also scanned the computer for any trojans and any other possible viruses but the pc is running perfect waft do I do ? Please help me ?

I need help iTunes 10.6.3 Mac running 10.7.3 not responding I have deleted iTunes and reinstall iTunes and it keeps happening I also scanned the computer for any trojans and any other possible viruses but the pc is running perfect waft do I do ? Please help me ?

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • ITunes and Computer freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my video ipod to my computer (dell desktop) the system freezes, as in it will not respond to mouse clicks and keyboard (but can still get to task manager). When I unplug the ipod it comes back to life. Programs always freeze, but sometimes I am able to navigate within windows without it freezing, but as soon as a program is brought up, my computer falls to its knees.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and updater v. 1.1, (but I have not been able to update the firmware yet from v 1.0).
The odd thing is last night I was able to download several gigs worth of music to it without incident. I then tried to load movies (they were in the wrong format, but I didn't know it at the time), and so in an effort to correct that I uninstalled itunes, the ipod drivers, and the ipod updater programs several times.
I cannot update the ipod firmware because the computer freezes when the ipod is plugged in, so the program freezes as well. Kind of a catch 22 situation.
I have been over the forums and help archives for about an hour and a half now and I have come up dry.
Windows XP does recognize the ipod when the cable is connected, and the ipod flashes, "Do not disconnect", which it is supposed to do.
I suspect this is drivers/software, but I have no idea where to go from here.
    Help?

    Hey!
That EXACT thing happened to me! 2 nights ago I'm downloading like crazy, all is well. I got on LimeWire and downloaded some videos and tried to put them on my iPod. Imported them into iTunes then tried to put em on my iPod and it completely wiped out all my songs! So I get back on, put the songs back in, and about half way through the update the thing freezes. I've re-installed everything, and have reset my iPod. Did you figure out what to do? Maybe your fix will fix my problem, too.
    Thank you!
