Possible loose backlight connection?...
just the other day my laptop monitor backlight randomly shut off. The display didn't go to sleep, because i can still see the display, but only as well as you could if you turned the backlight all the way off.
Before the first time this happened i was attempting to do a screengrab key command and didn't hit the right combination, so i assumed i had activated something else with the command. i hit the combination again trying to revert the command, but nothing happened.
also, I just purchased a dvi to video cable, to hook my laptop to the tv, and hadn't removed the adaptor, so a friend thought that may have been the problem, but even after that it still randomly shuts off.
i try hitting the space bar, "return," and various other keys, thinking the computer went into a strange sleep mode, but they did nothing. i lifted my computer and the light flickered back on. if i put my laptop on my lap, it constantly flickers on and off if my legs move even a bit, making it impossible to work on. this makes me think that a connection is loose somewhere between the base (keyboard) and the lcd screen.
i made an appointment for the genius bar, out of the few times that are convenient to apple, but wasn't sure if anybody else had heard of or experienced this problem?
thanks for you help in advance.
15" MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)
15" MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)
I just within the past two weeks started experiencing precisely the same problem, exactly as you describe it.
The school district I work for has an authorized Apple repair center, and when I described the problem over the phone, they agreed that it was probably a loose or pinched cable.
Unfortunately they cannot fix it in house and must send it to Texas for repair. Since this is my only computer for work and school, I just can't part with it for two weeks. I'll have to live with it for now, but please, please, tell me what the geniuses tell you. If I can get it back faster I might go through them.
Hope it turns out to be something minor for the both of us though! I hate to send my baby in for repair for something that fixes itself with a good enough smack to the side

WAP200 looses wifi connectivity in irregular intervals
We currently have ~15 WAP200 accesspoints distributed over 4 buildings. Random devices seem to go unresponsive at irregular intervals (web interface still works, clients see a signal, but cannot connect). Rebooting the device solves the problem. User authtication is solved via a radius backend (freeradius), although I highly doubt this is causing the problem since the radius server does not recieve any requests from "broken" accesspoints.
Configuration is WPA2 - Enterprise, only 1 SSID, Power is via PoE
Unfortunately it isn't possible to reliably reproduce the problem. Anyone else having this problem?Yes, I have only one WAP200E (with PoE) and it pressents the same issue. I have it configured with open security, 1 SSID, I mean with the simpliest configuration and it still looses wifi connectivity. It presents the same sintoms:
web interface still works, clients see a signal, but cannot connect
I even updated FW from 1.2 to 2.0.0.27.

Officejet 6700 looses wireless connection to MAC
My 6700 keeps loosing it connection with my mac which is running 10.10.4 and the fault seems to have occurred at the time this ios update installed. I have had the mac just over a year and its all worked fine until the 10.10.4 update. I have tried re-booting the airport extreme, the mac, deleting the printer and re-installing none of which resolves the problem fully. If I re-boot the printer it will be found and I can print, but if the next job is more than 10 mins later the mac looses the printer again and will not find it. The same fault also seem present with my ipad retine display model running ios 8.4, again this has been working well for nearly two years. HELP please

So, I bit the bullet. I've always wanted to upgrade to the iPhone 5 from my existing iPhone 3Gs, before I do so, I sort of got the iPod Touch 5G first.
Now to the main question,
"Is there any virtually possible way to connect my iPod Touch 5G 6.1.2 to my iTunes 10.6.3 running on my MacBook with OSX 10.5.8?!?"
I'm still lucky that my iPhone 3Gs still can run on 5.1.1 and sync nicely with my current mac, but I need a new phone. I already have a desktop workstation and I still do have all my data/etc on my laptop.
Or must I have to buy Snow Leopard (if it's still available) and upgrade my old Mac's OS to do so? If so, is it still worth while to purchase SL, or would it be abandoned very soon since it's also considered "old"? and getting a new laptop is quite expensive too as a solution.
Regards,
VinceThis works for 4G iPod and iOS 6. However, it may not work for the 5G because of the Lightning cable. The Lightning cable has active componets and thus it may need OSX 10.6.8 or later to work.

Loosing modem connection WRT54GS v6
I have recently purchased the WRT54GS ver6 and continuously loose the connection from the modem to the router. I have one wired, one wireless and both will work fine for 1-2 hrs, then lose the connection from the modem. I run the Easy Link advisor, it finds the router, the two pc's, but no modem. I power down then power up the modem and click the "fix connection", it goes through the two pages then connection established.... every time. It finds the router, the two pc's but always has to have the modem restarted.
Frustrated,
markThanks for the response, totally appreciate the help. The version I have, the version they try to have me download now is 1.50.9. Where do I get the version 1.01.0? When was it released? Version 1.50.9 was released just this October.
thanks again

Mac Mini Late 2012 OS X 10.9.4 loosing network connectivity
I haven't found the exact issue on the forums nor outside it so I'm creating a new thread.
My Late 2012 Mini started loosing network connectivity after upgrading to 10.9.4, both WiFi and Ethernet.
Sometimes it takes around 5 minutes, sometimes more than 30 but the connectivity gets disrupted continuously, the packets stop going in or out for around 30 seconds. I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've changed network locations, nothing helps and I've found nothing interesting in the system logs.
Also I can't login to the Apple bugtracker due to some error so I'm reporting it here.
The only USB devices i have connected are keyboard and mouse.
Any help will be appreciated.

OS X 10.9.4 MavericksPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
My i phone 4 keeps loosing its connection with my Toyota Camry bluethoth does anyone know what I can do about that?
Ignore the ridiculous post by W1$C. He posts that regardless of the person's question.
Things you can do to solve your problem:
1. General>Settings>Reset Network settings
2. If this is only happening at home, power down your router for a minute, then power it back up.
3. Other basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the user guide are to restart, reset, and restore--first from backup, then if needed as a new device.
Hope this helps.

Is it possible to wireless connect 2 routers?
Hello, I have the WRT54GS wireless router and it works fine. It is installed upstairs in a family room.
Now, I want to install downstairs a LAN device (Squeezebox) which doesn't work wireless.
I know I can throw a cat5 cable from the WRT54GS router to another router or switch downstairs and connect the Squeezebox to one of the LAN ports. But is there a possible way to connect the routers wirelessly?
Basically I want to extend my network, but have the capability of using lan ports not only wireless.
Is that possible?
Thanks!
Martinsorry, wireless communication between 2 routers is not possible. Not way to configure them to do so either . Best thing will be to pull a cable and hook them physically.

Keep loosing the connection to my 30" display
Hi
I've just bought a MacBook Pro 17" + and adapter to my 30" Apple Cinema Display.
There seems to be an annoying issue however; 3-4 times during a work day I loose the connection to the 30" display. This happens without any prior notice. I don't mess with the cables or anything. Everything is plugged in nicely and securely, and the weirdest thing is that even thought the connection is lost to the screen itself my mouse and keyboard (which are connection through the screen) still works.
I need to unplug the adapter to the mini display port 1-3 times before the connection is reestablished.
3-5 times during the day what also happens is that the screen "blinks" for about 1-2 seconds (goes dark) and then goes on again ... causing me to hold my breath hoping the connection is not lost again
Is this a knows issue? And what to do?
Regards,
DanielCan I "change the channel"?
Of course. You would change the channel on the wireless router creating the wireless network. The AX will automatically detect the channel that the wireless network is using. -
Connect time capsule via ethernet to Mac for back-up only. Is it possible without internet connection ?
Hi Bob,
I'm not certain the post I sent was posted correctly, as I added it as a reply to a 3-year old thread. Since this is a recently-active thread, though not specific to the issue at hand, I thought I'd post again:
Three years ago you helped me set up a roaming wireless network in my home. It's been rock-steady and I'm forever grateful to you for the time and guidance you gave me. I'd now like to swap out my AirPort Extreme base station for a time capsule. As I understand it, I should be able to unplug the base station and replace it with the TC without problem, so long as I use all the same settings on my TC... network name, security protocol, password, etc. Given the complexity of my network, I thought I should check with you first for any advice you might have. I don't want to set up a new network or make any changes to the existing one-- with the exception of using the TC in place of the AE. I'm already using Time Machine for backups. As a refresher, my current setup has the AE as base station and 3 expresses hard-wired with Ethernet connections elsewhere in my home. I have a 4th express set up wirelessly to use with my stereo system at the front of the house. All AXs are 'n's and are set up, as per your instructions, in Bridge mode to extend the existing network. I'm running the most updated version of Mavericks on my MBPro. Any suggestions you might have will be, as always, very much appreciated! Sincerely, Phyllis Sommers -
HT4628 iMac looses wifi connection
My iMac (OS 10.8.5) looses wifi connection every once in a while. I go to Network Diagnostics, press all those Continue buttons, at some point it sais "Your Internet connection appears to be working correctly" and the Internet connection is being restored right at this moment. It can happen 2 or 3 times a day or may not happen for weeks. I have seen this with three different routers, moreover, I had this problem in a different place with a different iMac (OS 10.6 again with different routers). Its annoing. May be there is some simple thing I just don't know? Thank you.
Perfect it has been working fine ever since you posted the update 3 months ago. UNTIL to day i am having the same problem my imac randomly disconnected from the internet while i was watching youtube. when i went to the wifi icon in the top bar it searched and nothing! logging in/out doesnt help the only fix is to restart any advice?

When I'm on the internet using the airport, I loose my connection all the time. The I don't loose the internet, it just like freezes and eventually it will come back and the action I have tried to get it to do, like go to another page or link etc. it will have done. I can still use the computer itself just not the internet. Crazy huh?
I have checked in troubleshooting and gone through the manual. I'm not finding an answer. I've checked with my Internet Service Provider, it's not them. Everyone else in my household is staying connected just fine. Is my airport card just going out and I'm out of luck until I replace it? I'm hoping maybe there is an upgrade or something that might help. If you have a suggestion please let me know.
ThanksSolution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

IMac looses airport connection intermittantly
Can anyone help me. I have a G4 powerbook (OSX 10.2.8) which runs fine with my Aiport Extreme (firmware 5.1.1). I've just purchased a new iMac (OSX 10.5.6) which connects to the Airport on startup but then looses the connection and restablishes it many time in the day, without any seeming pattern.
Help !If there is a 2.4 GHz cordless phone in your house your airport will have problems. Even if the phone isn't in use, if it's powered on it is communicating with the base and is interfering with the Airport

Imac keeps loosing WIFI connection
Hi all,
I loose wifi connection most of the time (but not all the time) at around 18:00 pm !?!, very strange !
I have no neighbors and no houses close enough to interfere with my wifi.
After loosing connection I do: Syst. Pref - Network - unblock modification with password - Help me - Diagnosis then choose my wifi
and it starts working again for 3 minutes.
Then I loose connection again and have to go through all the previous steps. After 4 or 5 times it's all ok.
What gives ? Can anyone help me please ? Any suggestions ?
I have to use wifi because my ethernet port and firewire ports both stopped working and Apple says I have to take the machine for repair.
Thanks for any help.
OSX 10.9.4Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 5
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 6
Reset the PRAM.
Step 7
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
Step 8
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center. -
[SOLVED] Loosing Wireless Connection
I am constantly loosing my wireless connection while I am trying to download something, usually I don't reach 60 MB and it's gone.
I am also loosing my connection while browsing the internet for 2-3 hours.
In both cases it reconnects after 2 minutes ,sometimes more.
I still have my IP address during these 2 minutes.
I tried different connection methods : wifi-menu, netctl, NetworkManager , manually with wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd(or dhclient) but they all lead to loosing my connection after a time.
