Possible MTU issue in DSL network

We deliver DSL to customers, and everything worked fine until two days ago, when cistomers started to complain about not reaching a number of sites on the internet. The dsl in terminated at 3-layer at another Isp. We can not find any common sign in ip ranges, sites thats not working or termination geografic of customer. When the other isp configured ip tcp adjust mss on the ERX it worked again. Both isp claim to have done no changes that should have impact on this. Anyone experienced something alike?

there's no MTU setting on the SPA3102...since there is no port triggering on the SPA3102 as well try either DMZ or port forwarding (for port forwarding just forward port 443 which is for secured sites) -- this is under Router> Application tab

Image Ultra Builder 3.x issue with T61 Network Driver load

Hello,
I am having issues with a Network deployment of an image on a T61 (7659-12U) During the intial boot up phase with the Network Boot disk that was created from IUB, I receive and error 1231 - The Network Location cannot be reached.. I am currently using IUB for deployment of A31, T40/42 as well as the T60 model line. None of these loads are having the problem.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
IUB 4.01 is using WINPE 2.0<Vista based> and IUB 3.1 was using WINPE 1.0/1.1<XP Based>.
This has nothing to do with the actual image deployment. It's just that the WINPE looks more like
Vista. And this is why the method changed after you updated from 3.0/3.1 to 4.00/4.01.
To answer your questions from before:
1) Does updating IUB to version 4.01 still allow me to deploy Windows XP ?
Yes, it's still supported and possible.
2) Where on the boot CD should the new driver files be located. I took this to be PREBOOT\DRIVERS ?
As the new IUB is using WINPE 2.0, the best location for the NIC drivers is the file :
tvtos\winpe.wim
However, this is my advice.!
For my Image deployment I'm no longer using the CD for network deployment. I'm using USB key which gives me more options for the image deployment and the automatization of the deployment process.
However, if you want to use CD for network deployment, then you can do it in following way.
!!!NOTE: this is not the offical way, nor the supported way, but trust me, that it's working like charm !!!
- go to your repository location %repositorylocation%\modules
- find the file called "Z633003A.TVT" and open it using your fav zip application
- after you open this file, go to following location: tvtos\
- extract the "winpe.wim" and using WAIK unmount this file and add the NIC drivers into this .wim file
- after all the drivers are in the winpe.wim file, just copy it back to the "Z633003A.TVT" file and create a new Deployment CD
How to add NIC driver using WAIK:

As I described earlier, I'm using USB key for Network image deployment, so I have not done it this way, but I have done it a bit simplier.
Here are my steps:
- created a Distribution USB key <suing the same method, that you are using when you create a Network deployment CD, but instead of a CD I select my USB key>
- once the USB key was created successfully I unmount the "tvtos\winpe.wim" file and add all the NIC dirvers into it
This is all that I have done.
Yes, of course there are couple other steps, that I do, like modifying the BCD file, adding other WINPE files, diagnostics and other deployment tools, however, this is not realy a part of IUB, I'm using it for my WDS server and other deployment tools, that I need to use. If you know, what I mean, then you surely understand, that it's a live safer to have everything on one USB key, then on multiple CD where I need to search throught all of then to find the correct CD.
Let me know, whether this method is more suitable for you.
As described above, this is not the realy official/supported way, but it's working for sure.

Possible DNS issue with AirPort Express basestation?

Hi all -
Up until recently my Airport Express has been working great. This past weekend I started noticing that website browsing became slow, and some websites would not come up at all (e.g. popular sites like wordpress.org).
Otherwise my internet connection works fine (email works, browsing for the most part is normal for all computers on the network, pc and mac).
I read that this could be a possible DNS issue. I unplugged the AE basestation and plugged my Powerbook directly into my cable modem and was able to get to all websites that I couldn't get to while using the AE. That, and browsing was a heck of a lot faster (it seemed).
Can anyone help me out and point me to a specific setting on the AE that I can toggle, correct, whatever, to solve this (possible) DNS issue?

Dear Henry, Thanks for your reply, and we are sorry for having intruded upon the wrong thread with our troubles. Perhaps you could point us to the most pertinent thread. Further pushing credulity Might you assist us further?... We have checked every floor in the building and no new equip has been added, though I can't speculate on the 'hood at large. We added a Time Capsule to the mix hoping that might bring back some stability and speed, but results aren't very promising so far. perhaps you might point us to a resource for professional help, or web sites that may help us define and implement something beyond the ad hoc system we have currently. We have read through the Apple docs regarding Designing Networks, and though informative they don't necessarily explain the nuances / consequences of different configurations, for instance, that WDS will adversely affect net speed. Thanks in advance for your input (should you wish to assist). If you are so inclined I can provide the snap shot of our list of hardware. And again apologies if we are in the wrong place.

MTU Issue

I have developed an MTU issue that I'm trying to resolve. I can't send email attachments or get to certain WEB sites via a wirless connection without first changing the MTU value to 1492. My ISP tells me it has nothing to do with them and Apple Tech support tells me there is nothing wrong with my Airport Extreme Base Station (or my remote stations) or my Airport card(s). Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Thanks again Duane. I actually got to speak to a high-level tech support person after being referred by the low-level tech support person who was not able to give me any answers. It was the high-level tech support person who claimed they (my ISP) have done nothing at their end to cause my problems. He argued that since I was able to get to all WEB sites and send email attachments when I conncected my MACs or PCs directly to my DSL modem, the problem had to be somewhere at my end, i.e. either my Airport Extreme basestation or my computer settings. I also spoke to a high-level Apple tech support person who insisted the issue was related to something my ISP did at their end. I think the problem is most likely related to something that my ISP has done, since I'm able to connect to other ISPs (without having to change the MTU from the default of 1500) when I'm traveling.

My DSL Network constantly needs for me to do the always allow action

The DSL network that I have on my house constantly loose connection to the internet and that requires for me to open the networks preferences an go through the Assist me, Diagnostics process and so on, until I click the "always allow" button. After I do this, access to the internet is restored.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is the problem wireless? Or is the problem the DSL connection, sync or authentication?
You will need to give us more info..
How is the DSL network different to the TC 2nd gen.. ??
Do you run multiple networks? What modem do you have? Is it running in bridge or router mode?
How is the TC connected and is it part of the network.. is so what part?? Router, wireless AP, switch etc.. the more info you give us the more we can help.
Log from the DSL modem is invaluable if you are having dsl issues.. please post any issues from that..
For pure wireless issues.. this is usually a good time to do a clean out.. open the wireless in network preferences.. go to the list of all the remembered wireless.. and clear out the whole lot. Reboot the computer, rediscover the wireless and make sure you remember the network.

I am facing issues in creating adhoc network in Windows 8.1. After searching in internet, I found that adhoc works with
netsh commands.
1. I have tried neths commands and able to get it work on windows 8.1,
but I want to do it through the WLAN APIs ie. WlanConnect ,
2. I am able to initiate the adhoc network(on Windows 8.1) by using WlanConnect API and other device are also able to connect to the Windows8.1 initiated adhoc network but the DHCP is not working.
-> clients are not able to get the IP address.
Is it possible to create the adhoc network and get it work with WLAN APIs (WlanConnect) instead of netsh commands...?

Did you mean to write a program to implement that creating adhoc via UI? This should be development issue.
But this is Windows 8.1 client forum and there is no professional on develop.

DMM - DMP connectivity over DSL network

Dear All,
I would like to know whether it is possible to connect DMM - DMP over DSL Network.
- I have DMM with private IP 192.168.1.100 have static net public IP 58.177.200.xx
- I have DMP with private IP 192.168.xx.xx connect under ADSL network with Dynamic IP address.
I check NAT enable on DMPDM but It ask me to enter ADSL public IP. When DSL line down and reconnect IP is change.
What Should I do?

Hi Sukitti,
I'm afraid this will never work. As you already saw, you can use the DMP with NAT, but the public IP needs to be fixed.
Your best approach would be to contact your ADSL service provider and request a fixed IP for that connection. Most of providers give this option for a small extra amount

Sounds like the device may have had a hardware failure. If it is out of warranty, the only option is the Out of Warranty replacement.
AppleCare is only an option if it is still under the original warranty.

The same story. No 3G after updating to 6.1. Told my daughter temporarily not to do an update on her iPad with 6.01. We've exchanged SIMs. I inserted her SIM in my iPad - 3G appeared immediately. And my SIM in her iPad with ios 6.01 also WORKS FINE. We use the same provider - Megafon Moscow. After attempting to revert SIMs to original configuration, 3G disappeared on my iPad again. Is it possible to scan over a network

Is it possible to scan over a network using Airport Express? I ahve a brother mfc210c.

My brother color laser (MFC9840CDW) is great for scanning over my ethernet network and I've read that it supports wireless, but haven't bothered to turn that function on. Of course it's a network printer, and Brother does provide scanner software for Leopard for my printer. I can also scan from the printer to any machine on the network.
Basically, if you get a machine that's designed to work, then yes, you can scan over a network.
In your case, USB is not a two way connection for a printer from just about any USB Print Server. A lot of times the USB print servers will not even let you read the ink levels. Brother will not waste the time creating network scanning software for a non-network scanner.

Trying to find the highest possible MTU

I try to find out, wich is the highest possible MTU. So I send a PING -L XXXX -F to the Pix outside, from outside. XXXX is standing for the bytes.
PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -L 992 (and lower) -F
I got a reply
PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -L 993 (up to1472) -F
the ping timed out
PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -L 1473 (and higher) -F
Fragmentation is needed
I don't understand, why it timed out between 993 an 1472.
If i try the same to a router (same internet connection), the ping works up to 1472, with no time out. Upeer 1472 I get the fragmentation message.
Have enyone an answer?

My problem occurs also without any encryption. I'm connected to the internet and send a ping to the outside interface of the PIX. First a thought it is a problem with the router from the ISP, but we have also a CISCO 1605 connected to the same ISP router and there the ping work realy fine until 1472 bytes the I get the message fragmentition needed.
If I'm connected via the VPN Client 3.51 and send a ping to inside, I get the same results, but additional on the PIX, if debug ipsec is on, a message like this: IPSEC(ipsec_cipher_handler): ERR: bad pkt 10.1.80.3->10.1.1.1
I searched in the errordecoder from Cisco, but there are no results.
By the way, the pre-fragmentation is by default on and I didn't switch it off. It occurs not in IPSEC transfermode, which I'm using.
