Possible, or is Home Sharing brain dead?

iMac with Apple Lossless music library is on same Ethernet as AirPort. iMac and iPad both signed in to me.com. Home Sharing enabled all around via same me.com account.
For some reason, iPad cannot see iMac's shared music; the path is iMac->Ethernet->Airport->iPad. Is this a scenario Apple didn't think of, or am I missing a setup step?
Thanks.

my Macs are hardwired to my time capsule - only my iDevices and a couple of airport express units connect to the network wirelessly. my Ipad can connect to my Mini's library without difficulty.
the setup has been thought of and does work !

  • TS2972 is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?

My wife and I have itunes accounts and want to be able to share music we have each bought on our accounts. We have tried setting up the home sharing on our PC but it doesn't show up on the screen. Can anyone please help?

"Is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?"
No. Home sharing is used to connect two running instances of iTunes across a network. When you switch users on the computer all applications running on the other profile are suspended.
You can however share your respective media folders so that they are visible in either profile and then copy over any content that you want, or you could create a single joint library which you use when either user is logged in.

  • How do I de-activate home sharing on dead computers? I have already used my allowed 5 spots, but only have 2 com puters!

Over the years, I have authorized 5 computers for home sharing.  3 of the computers haved crashed, and are long gone.  I can't find any resolve to de-authorize those 3 computers from home sharing.  I am hoping to find the option, to de-authorize, and to authporize my new computer/  Any ideas?

See this -> About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
"*To deauthorize all computers associated with your account*
If you find you have reached 5 authorizations, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen.
Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click *View Account*.
In the Account Information window, click *Deauthorize All*.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact the iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/)."
Then authorize the computers you want (iTunes menu Store > Authorize computer). you need to be using a computer to authorize it.

  • Is It Possible To Restrict Home Sharing Certain Content ?

Hi - Just bought apple TV and works great.  However I am a little dissapointed that there doesn't seem a way to limit or exclude certain conetent from being home shared.  I have some podcasts that have either excplicit language used in them, and the cover graphics for them are also quite grown up.  I'd rather these didn't get shared to our family TV for my children to access.
For example some of these podcasts have the F word in the tilte.  they are actually just comesy podcasts, but nevertheless its not ideal when the cover art for these podcasts scrolls through main Apple TV home screen for podcasts automatically - and are seen by my kids.  Is there a way to exclude these podcasts from being Home Shared ?- and for that matter any specific playlist (eg music with adult content or lyrics)?
It appears to be all or nothing ?  Sureley Apple would provide more granular control of what is home shared?

Ok thank you. So itunes needs to be open for both people at the same time in order to share? I used to use homeshare when i was in a flatshare and could access libraries even if my flatmates were not in and their computers turned off so was hoping that it would also work on separate log-ins.
And given the above out only option would be for me to import the songs i want into my library using the source folder as the same that he stores his music in on the hard-drive?

  • Can I use Home Sharing for this...

I have 3 iphones (2 x 6's and 1 x 5), and an ipad, all of which I use one iTunes account. iTunes and Mac software all up to date
Is it possible to use Home Sharing to sync them all exactly the same or is the a better/smarter way to do this.
I have tries to sync them separately and it sort of works when it comes to contacts, apps etc but I want my playlist t be the same and can't seem to get that correct.
    Thanks in advance

maybe you could try Evernote (available in APPSTORE) to keep track of your reminders. You could use built-in contacts to save your customers contact though or if you are not satisfied enough with it, search in appstore for everything you need, there's plenty of 'em.

  • Thinking of using Home Sharing. Not sure if I can or should.

Hi. A few weeks back iTunes started asking me if I wanted to enable Home Sharing. I was curious but since I was unsure I haven't done it yet. Here's my deal, we have 2 Macs in the house and my stepdaughter synchs her iPod on our MacBook and she's fine with that. No one else does. On my PowerMac G4, however, I have profiles enabled and 3 of us synching our iPods on that. I've copied most of my library into my wife's and almost all of mine into my son's. So, if I'm not mistaken, if the size of my library is 10GB, we're using 30GB between us which seems very inefficient. My G4 has an 80GB HDD and I have a seperate, internal 250GB HDD. I'm not sure if this is what Home Sharing does but what I would, ideally, LIKE to do is locate my library on the 250GB drive, which I believe is possible, then enable home sharing so that me, my wife and my son all use the same library. If this is not what home sharing is for or not possible I apologize. I've done some searching and I don't see this particular issue addressed. Thanks.

    Hey guys,
I'm interested in Arch Linux. So I want to throw it on a disc and give it a shot. If I like it, and it's lightweight and fast enough(I'm currently using Lubuntu, and I'm wanting to see if Arch is even lighter/faster), then I'll install it. But I was just reading the Wiki, and under the Pre-Installation part this is mentioned:
Arch Linux is optimized for i686 and x86_64 processors and therefore will not run on any lower or incompatible generations of x86 CPUs (i386, i486 or i586). A Pentium Pro, Pentium II or AMD Athlon (K7) processor or higher is required.
I have a seven year old computer, and I really don't know much about processors. So I'm not sure if I can run Arch. It looks like I have an AMD Athlon XP 2700+ processor. So going by this, am I able to use Arch? I've always download and used the i386 version of distros. And according to the wiki Arch is incompatible with this. So I'm guessing I can't run it, but I thought I would ask just to be sure.
    Thanks for any help.
That processor is newer than the  Athlon K7 series. It is i686, and thus installling a i686 OS like Arch Linux will/should give you a faster computing experience.

  • ITunes and Windows 8 Home Sharing (Possible Fix)

If this fix has been posted elsewhere then I apologize, but I wanted to share what I stumbled on as a possible for for iTunes Home Sharing and Windows 8. I did a lot of port forwarding, both on my router and my Norton firewall, but nothing seemed to help. After a few minutes my Apple TV and iOS devices would stop seeing my iTunes library. The only way to fix it was to reboot the router.
On a whim I looked in my Device Manager and found under Network Adapters a device called Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. I disabled this, rebooted my computer, and have since no issues with Home Sharing. It's only been a few hours, but that is the longest I've gone since installing Windows 8. I'll look in the morning to see if it still works.
So give this method a try and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix your problems.

Here are the three steps I took to get Home Sharing working successfully on Apple TV. This has worked for the better part of a week so hopefully it will work well for others.
In your software firewall create two new Inbound Rules. Open port 3689 (TCP) and port 5353 (UDP) to All Programs.
If your hard drive goes to sleep after a certain period, be sure to change to something greater than 30 min. (Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Hard disk -> Turn off hard disk after -> Setting)
On your Apple TV change when it goes to sleep. I changed mine to 10 hours.
This seems to keep the connection alive. On occassion it will look like it gets stuck loading, but just let it go. At some point it wil kick on. If you generates a connection error just try loading the media again and it should start.

  • Is it possible to use two separate Apple IDs in Home Sharing?

My wife and I each have an Apple ID that we have used in the past, pre-iTunes 9, for our own individual iTunes libraries. We would like to do Home Sharing, but it seems like we would have to go down to a shared Apple ID that wouldn't be either of the ones we already have. Is it possible that we can "sync" our two IDs with a new ID for Home Sharing so that we can still keep our separate identities, but still be able to Home Share? I figure that we could create a new ID and just authorize things from our old IDs, but we really don't want to do that. Any suggestions or answers? Thanks in advance for your help and sorry if this was asked before.

I figure that we could create a new ID
    Don't do that.
Make sure both computers are authorized for both iTunes accounts and use the same account (either one, it doesn't matter) to turn on Home Sharing.

Hi, my original iTunes library is on my old HP Laptop.  When I want to access my iTunes library from my MacBook Air (through Home Sharing) I need to have  iTunes open on my HP or iTunes on my MacBook won't find/recognise my library; however my old laptop is about to die so how do I access my iTunes library once this computer is dead (recently had the HP in for fixing and therefore couldn't access iTunes library).  Can my MacBook access my iTunes library in the smae way as my iPhone 5 does i.e. not through Home Sharing?

  • Is it possible to see two libraries via home sharing on a single ipad at the same time?

I have an iMac with an itunes library (and unique Apple ID) and a MacBook Pro with a different itunes library (and different Apple ID).  I would like to see both libraries at the same time on my iPad.  So far, I have only been able to figure out how to see a single library at a time.  I see the library associated with the Apple ID entered in the home sharing setting.  Again, I want my ipad to see both libraries at the same time.  I don;t want to have to keep changing the Apple ID setting in home sharing on my ipad to see a different library.

Use the same ID for homesharing on all devices, the ID used for homesharing does not need to be the same as the one used for the iTunes Store on each device.
You will see both libraries in the sharing option and be able to load either without changing any settings. It won't however combine both libraries into one list of content.

  • Windows 8 and a dead home sharing - not answered

Hi all. I've read through countless post about home sharing. Mine used to work and now I'm lucky if it just shows up on my new (3rd gen) iPad. I have changed Firewall setting in Norton (not Windows). I have turned them off, and yet nada. I've got the 4 main ports open - TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353 so the firewall won't block them, but I'm still at a loss.
Right now, I'm at my wits end. Can anyone help me? I've talked with Norton, they tried and failed. I'm guessing this is now a stupid Window's issue, but I can't find it. I've turnoff and turned on services - Bonjour, Itunes.
Help.... I need my Home Sharing. ;-)
To any heros out there, thank you in advance.

Sorry, but no computer manufacturer is going to provide support for a new operating operating system on a computer over four years old. Your HP IQ804 originally came with Windows Vista and HP provided drivers for upgrading to Window 7. Your best bet is to download Windows 8 drivers from the actual manufacturers of the hardware contained in your computer... Intel, AMD/ATI, Nvidia, Realtek, Atheros, Ralink, etc
    Per HP's Windows 8 Upgrade Information;
Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.
Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.
Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.
