Possible OSX Mountain Lion issue

I just installed OSX Mountain Lion two days ago. Today, it took my Macbook 10 minutes to boot up. Anyone else seen this?

Is this a constant issue when you turn your machine on or is it totally random?
Your profile shows you have a MacBook. Click on the Apple Logo on the top left corner of your screen and go to "About This Mac" What are the specs (processor and memory) you see there?
Click on "More Info" and go to the "Storage" tab at the top. How much free space do you have?
All in all it comes down to 1.) How much RAM or memory you have installed and 2.) If you have enough free space on your hard drive for the machine to run properly.
Once your device turns on try opening up Activity Monitor. You can Spot Light search this or get it from your utility folder in Applications. Sort the CPU % and see what is taking up the most of your CPU at the start.

• Osx Mountain Lion Issues

Hi, I purchased a laptop from Apple around 8 weeks ago. I've had nothing but trouble with it ever since. I've been averaging a trip to the "Genius" bar roughly once a week. I'm onto the 2nd laptop, it has had it HD replaced. I've had to reinstall ML around 6-8 times, and have basically pulled what was left of my hair out.
I haven't lost any data, as things started to happen as soon as I purchase and I haven't been game toi.
I've been sent between the Support line and the Genius Bar, and no one has been able to help me. I don't want to start on a rant.
Basically symptoms start with , me losing permissions, screen and graphics becoming unstable when accessing certain websites, and the notification centre.
Not being able to access the app store. Updates being downloaded but not installed. System Preferences changing before my very eyes.
Just a nightmare. I have various log files, screen shots and even a 13 minute video.
It's the first time I've ever owned a Mac and have been upfront and said that if I'm doing something wrong, please tell me, as I have very limited knowledge.
A common denominator seems to have been the download of a file About Downloads.pdf.
Anyone else had similar problems??
More than happy to put more info up, should anyone be willing and/or to help.
Thanks

Thanks for the responses.
I'm taking the "thrown in the deep end" learning course on this, so please forgive me, if I don't make sense. I've been spending a fair bit of time on it, and am currently clutching at straws, because I've tried to follow the tutorials and try and learn what I can. I haven't been able to isolate the issue, and no one has been able to help me.
Here's the log after install - I'm only guessing, but common sense to me, says that someone has remote acces and the ability to control my device??? This was just after I had an IT person, delete, partition and install - they only pressed the buttons and didn't hang around to see the results, as they were at work and just trying to do me a favour -

I have a mac pro 1,1. I would like to know if its possible for me to upgrade the parts to where i can install osx mountain lion, or osx mavericks? I am currently adding more ram so it will have 32gb of ram, i have 2 250gb HDD but adding a 250gb SSD , and have a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512mb that i will most likely upgrade to an ATi Radeon HD 5570 1gb.

The SSD will boot fast, but the real change is launching 10 programs in 10 seconds and being able to use them. (20 seconds for a few big suites).
I would not add or upgrade to 32GB RAM. You can get 8 x 2GB for $100 on Amazon.
Those 250GB HDD are "old" and slow and overdue to be replaced, reformat and use t o backup the system.
Samsung 250GB SSD is down to $150 or so on Amazon also.
The 5770 is gone, hard to find, EOL and over charged for when you do find one.
you could look into how to use a PC 6870 or others.
Or, you could hold out and wait for a refresh of Mac-Mini which can be just as fast or faster and run Mavericks.

Sarà possibile eseguire su osx mountain lion 10.8.4 osx mavericks GRATUITAMENTE? ..........It will possible run osx mavericks free on osx mountain lion 10.8.4?

It won't run "on" Mountain Lion as it is a new OS. It will replace Mountain Lion. While pricing hasn't been announced, I doubt it will be free.

• HT1338 I went to the Apple Store and bought the OSX Mountain Lion update and it is still downloading. The download began at around 7:00 PM last night. It is now 7:03AM. What's wrong. The icon on my computer says it is downloading still.

My OSX Mountain LIon is still downloading after the download was initiated 12 hours ago. What's wrong?

Possibly nothing. The whole thing relies on the amount of people currently doing the same thing as you and also your internet connection, remembering that WiFi is extremely slow.
How far through the download is it? If it's nearly done and at least still moving along I would be inclined to leave it. If not then you can stop it and start it all over again. Just be warned that if it is simply a connection issue then you might just be re-starting your clock
PS - I've seen the download take over 60hrs before.

• Mac OSX Mountain Lion crashes randomly.

I've made a clean install of Mac OSX Mountain Lion in my 15" Macbook Pro late 2009 laptop. I kept reciving these intermittent lock ups and then the Macbook pro reboots (while thankfully saving whatever it needed to save before it reboots) by itself with a message saying that the macbook pro had a problem and had to restart automatically. Did any of you have the same problem? and if so do you have a solution to fix it?

I am having the same issue with my late 2010 model macbook pro 15 inch. When the computer restarts, the Problem Report for OS X screen comes up with the following in the Details section (third time this has happened in the last 3 hours or so, any help would be great:

Ever since i downloaded OSX Mountain Lion, Express VPN no longer works properly for me. Even though it says I am connected, webpages refuse to load. However, connection speed is fine when its turned off. I cannot go on many websites without the VPN. My current location is Shanghai, China. OSX Mountain was installed this morning and everything worked fine until then. Is Express VPN not supported? What do i need to do in order to get it working again on my Macbook Pro (early 2011). I want to be able to go on websites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, ect...

Hi,
I am having the same issue listed above on my new Mac Mini i just bought, I also contacted Express VPN support and got the same instructions with exception of the command to run in the utilities terminal. I tried the steps listed, and both commands (posted here, and sent to me directly by Express VPN support), and still unable to connect on my Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2, but I am able to connect on my iPad and my MacBook which is running Mac OS X 10.6.8. Usually Express VPN is spot on with their customer support, but this is taking longer to get resolved. Here is the steps sent to me
Try doing the following to see if the problem gets resolved:
Please follow the instructions here: https://www.expressvpn.org/support/setting_dns_servers_mac_os
(should still be the same for Lion) and then add the following DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 & 208.67.222.220. After adding the DNS servers, please do the following steps as well:
Note: If you're connecting to your ISP via a PPPoE connection, then set the DNS servers on the PPPoE connection itself and then restart your computer for the DNS settings to take effect.
1. Click on Applications
2. Click on Utilities
3. Click on Terminal
4. Type the following command (without the quotes): "sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder"
5. Press enter and then try reconnecting to the VPN.
If you're still unable to connect, please send us in the latest log files.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

• Reinstalling OSX mountain lion

My computer is acting strangely and stops all the time to work - I can hear lots of little hard drive sounds and it is very slow until it is done (usually about 10 minutes), and my Adobe CS products are crashing and creating corrupt files that keep stopping.
I tried to reinstall the system today - I couldn't use the installer that came with the computer because I have installed Mountain Lion since.
I tried installing from the 'Install OSX Mountain Lion.app" file, and it went through the motions and said it was installing, but now it appears to be exactly the same - normally I would get the welcome screen and have to configure things. It did not give me an option to do a clean install.
How can I do a new installation to get rid of the existing problems on this computer? It is only a year old (iMac i7) and has 8 gb of RAM so it shouldn't be so slow. My laptop is the same and is much faster.
thanks for any help.

I couldn't use the installer that came with the computer because I have installed Mountain Lion since.
FWIW (and future reference), you should be able to install the original system (if it was Lion):
If you use internet recovery (Command + Option + R), then the original OS version will be reinstalled after you wipe the drive.
If you use recovery (Command + R) the current OS version will be reinstalled.
If the originally installed OS version same with install disks (Snow Leopard or earlier), you can boot from that disk; however, in order to revert, you will need to wipe the drive first.
And, since you want to get rid of "existing problems", starting over with a clean install is best. You do not know if your problems are only caused by the OS or possibly some incompatibility of third party software which would not be fixed if you simply reinstall the OS over the top of what you have.

• OSX Mountain LION 10.8 Epson CX7400 and Windows 7

I have troubles with my printer via Network:
I installed first the epson CX7400 via USB on the OSX and let OSX download the latest drivers automatic then I made a print and all ok then I return the printer to the machine with windows 7 that share that printer then I add the printer on OSX via Sytem Preferences/Print&Scan then on on "+" then Windows and navigate to the network machine that have the printer all ok detect perfect the OSX say idle and green on OSX but when I try to print say the error "Stopped Filter Failed" I saw on Error Log of the printer and say something of interpreter resource unavailable any suggestion on how to make work my network printer?
Note: That Printer is actually serving 7 computers without trouble just the OSX lion has the troubles.
Thank you

I have the same problem with the Epson CX7400 in a Windows 7 network.
I enabled LPD printing on the Windows 7 print server and tested it using Snow Leopord and it works fine.
With Mountain Lion, I am unable to get it to print.
Same symptoms as you. My daughter has a new Air with Mountain Lion and needs to print badly.
I opened a case with Apple today and provided them much detailed debug information and a network trace.
Because I'm able to print using LPD from Snow Leopord to the very same Windows 7 print server, it is highly unlikely a Windows side issue. It is more likely that it is an Epson driver/Mountain Lion issue. I don't expect Apple engineering to get back to me until next Thursday but if I find out anything good, I'll let you know.

• OSX Mountain Lion Server - how do you uninstall this including services

Hi All,
Sorry if the question has been asked before.
I have Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and installed OSX Mountain Lion Server (2.2.2) and run into a couple of issues after installed successfully.
* I no longer can add users and groups.
* Open Directory fails to connect.
So I read some forums and uninstalled the server by trashing it, deleting /Libaray/Server, empty trash and reboot. But when I reinstalled the server it renabled all the services that I had previously and still not able to add users and groups. Open Directory fails to connect "not able to load replica" So I try to create a new OD and get an error the server is already a Network Server.
So basicaly I want to start from scratch and need some assistance how to get rid of OSX Server.
Thanks
Sahid

Wipe the disk, and reinstall OS X. (Not fun, of course. I just created a bootable USB disk for this purpose, and nuked an errant server configuration. A "target practice" server used for testing purposes had gone awry, and needed to be wholly reset. So I know what you're going through. Visit here or here for some instructions.)
FWIW, usual trigger for problems with OS X Server on a NAT'd network is bad DNS. That step gets skipped, or folks think they can refer to ISP or off-LAN DNS servers, and problems ensue. OS X Server needs LAN-local DNS when NAT is in use.

• Osx mountain lion not downloading

My download of osx mountain lion gets to 142mb then stops! I've tried deleting the purchase and redownloading still the same thing,
does anyone have an answer for this annoying issue!

Hello, how much free space on your Hard Drive?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

I cannot for the life of me get messages to work on the new OSX mountain lion. I keep getting this alert when trying to sign in:
"COULD NOT SIGN INTO iMESSAGE. The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
Any ideas? I have restarted both my macbook and macpro, reset my apple ID password... no love.

I have spent over 40 hour walking through this issue with Apple senior tier engineering support with Apple for Mountain Lion and Developer support, plus the Apple store genius bar and their high level connection, Getting no where trying to resolve same issue it seems. The only thing I can get to work is AIM to video chat or share screens. Messages accounts have added 5 other account .mac accounts and I can not sign into any of them or remove any of them either. Over time I have had a .mac address that was made into a mobile me address that was then converted into a .mac email again and became a cloud account. And I have a developer account that has a separate name that works with iTunes connect. When I try to manage accounts to change the password of one it corrupts the the password of the other. When I try the change emails of one it says it is in use by the other.
There are 2 accounts for the iTunes and App Store.
Messages is choking on my 2 accounts and there is a definite unresolved problem with the cloud in regard to them it seems.

• How to download but not install OSX Mountain Lion on Mavericks

Hi all
I would like to download but not install OSX Mountain Lion on my MBP which is currently running OSX Mavericks.
This however seems impossible. I think OSX Mavericks were already installed on my MBP and therefore it seems "impossible" to download it.
Now, why would I to do this? The answer is quite reasonable, due to certain demands related to an application portfolio I need Mountain Lion, because the portfolio is not upgraded to run on Mavericks. And, it is more reasonable to downgrade a version of OSX, rather waiting for the portfolio upgrade which can take years.
Yes, I need to downgrade my secondary MBP which also came with preinstalled Mavericks. This can be done, if I only could download but not install Moutain Lion.
It should be easy enough; download Mountain Lion, make an installer and make a bootable thumb usb stick. Then erase Mavericks and install Mountain Lion.
I have previously bought Mountain Lion so it is accessible to me in the App Store, but whenever I try to hit the Download button, I get a message saying this can't be done, since I am running Mavericks.
This bugs me, it should be obvious users needs the flexibility to swap whatever OSX version they need. It is still software.
So, how can I download but not install Mountain Lion on my newer MBP that came with preinstalled Mavericks?
I would like to see answers like:
"In order to get this to work, you first have to disable the locking mechanism in [...] " instead of "No, this is impossible to do"
Regards

Thanks for your reply Eric
Can't help wondering thought, people are ok with this?
Basically Apple are saying: "Do not attempt to install an older version of OSX which came preinstalled. If so, expect multiple failures." Really?! Has it always been so? For me it's not like I'm going to install Snow Leopard on my Late 2013 Retina MBP, but I would expect some form of backward compatibility between the previous version and it successor. Apparently this is not possible, and how is this even acceptable?
Personally, I am not going to downgrade, as if I had a choice, but I would and I expected however, the possibility to at least download the previous OSX version. What do you do if you have bought several applications, not necessarily online from App Store and buy yourself a new Mac with preinstalled Mavericks and after installing your "old" applications they fail to work properly? What do you do since downgrading apparently is not an option. So... again, what do you do?
If you don't have friends with an older Mac, you could be facing serious problems. And I'm not talking about gaming, but serious business.
I find this quite disturbing actually, and please tell me it's not so. There gotta be a way to do this?
I simply want to download the OS but I expect some registry values (like windows' registry) keeps preventing this.
It should be possible to simply download and not download and install in one operation, shouldn't it?
Regards
