Possible Ram Trouble

Yesterday I installed a new stick of 1gig Ram in my 2.16 ghz MacBook Pro. Everything seemed to run fine. THere is a definite speed boost throughout my computer and it is recognized when I click "about this mac".
Here is my trouble: I woke up today with my computer completely locked up, and after watching numerous flash videos on safari, my computer completely shuts off and then reboots. This has happened twice in the last two hours. In between that happening, my computer dropped a dark grey color (almost like a curtain coming down on my display) and the computer telling me to hold down the power button until it turned off and reboot.
I put in my install disk and ran the hardware utility on the extended test twice. It never said there was a problem.
I don't know if it helps, but in the hardware display the following numbers were different between both pieces of ram, so I thought it might be important...
DIMM0: Oc7F7F7F8A00000000
DIMM1: 0xCE00000000000000
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,
If your MBP worked prior to installing the ram, and now has issues, it is the ram. AHT will not always detect bad ram. A way to test the ram is to remove it, and see if the issues stops. It also could be that the ram is not properly seated. You could check that too.

  • What is Maximum possible RAM upgrade?

I have a Macbook Pro , 2011, 8.2 , Core i7 , 2.4 GHz with 4 GB RAM. I need maximum possible RAM upgrade. I checked in www.eshop.macsales.com. They offer 16GB 1333 RAM.  As it is about 150$, I want to confirm if the information is correct.

The max capacity you can currently stuff into two sticks is 16GB and the 2011 models can happily use it all. Speedwise you have to stick with the speed built into the logic board: 1067 MHz for 2010, 1333 MHz for 2011 and 1600 MHz for 2012. Faster RAM won't benefit the system and may even lead to timing issues and weird glitches. For the same reason, it is best to use Mac-certified RAM, that ensures the correct CAS timing.

  • RAM trouble (4MEM/9/40000000: 0xb865f398)

I have an iMac 21.5" (mid 2010). Off and on over the past year I have had random shut downs "because of an unexpected error". Recently it has gotten much worse. Firefox has crashed a lot, or any other app that is more intensive. I reformatted my iMac, but that didn't help. I ran the Apple Hardware Test, and it gave the error code:
    4MEM/9/40000000: 0xb865f398
From what I know, this is related to the RAM. I have four 4GB Kingston Tech modules installed. I removed all but one, then ran the Hardware Test again. After going through all four modules, all the tests stated "No Trouble Found". Then I ran I module in each port to check if a port was bad, and still found no trouble. I've run two at a time and three at a time, but still "No Trouble Found". The only time I get the error message is when all four modules are installed.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Even if I leave only three modules installed (which didn't give an error message when I ran the Hardware Test) I still have frequent crashes and freezes. I've got OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 installed.
    Thanks for the help!

Install the original RAM that shipped with the Mac and then test. If it is OK (I suspect it is) replace the Kingston RAM (which tends to be problematic in iMacs) with a higher quality RAM from either Crucial or OWC, purchase directly from either vendor. iMacs are sensitive to RAM and demand high quality RAM rather than value RAM.
Your issue is one of the following:
    Failed RAM
    Incorrect RAM
    Unseated RAM

  • WRT110 possible Nat trouble

I have a westell 6100 dsl modem and a wrt110 wireless router. I set my dsl connection up on the wired pc to be on all the time and save the login, so it's always on. After that was setup I ran the installation for the router and it went as expected, I connected to the internet through my router. Now I have a wireless pc and all I had to do was click the secure setup button the router and it connected my wireless pc, no problems so far. The trouble I am having is, my connection drops every now and then, diagnostic says there are possibly 2 NATS. I disabled NAT on my router, but that just kept me from being able to access the internet on either pc. My router ip is 192.168.0.1 and my dsl ip is 192.168.1.1 I really don't know what to include as far as information that might be helpful, and I'm not sure what to look for or adjust. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if I need to supply more info I can. Thank you.

You can try upgrading your router's firmware :
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Possible RAM issues?

    hi...
i had 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, one gig for each DIMM slot, one of the mem sticks turned out bad, indicated by the hardware test and the fact that i would get kernel panic everytime i start the macbook... so i took the memstick out and now im with 1 gig ram on only the second DIMM slot, the first one is empty....
the problem is that often applications would crash out of nowhere for no apparent reason, ive checked how much free ram of the 1 gig i have, and i have plenty of free, even though running out of ram only decreases performance, not cause crashes...
so is it possible that apps will crash often, and once in a while OS X will lock up for no reason because im dont have mirror RAM on each DIMM aka, i have only one ram stick into the macbook...
PS: ive tried switching the RAM stick to DIMM slot 1, leaving DIMM 2 empty, that didnt fix anything either...

Well I emailed MSI tonight to see if they have any suggestions.  I contacted Mwave and they stated that the memory is probably bad and they suggested I send it back to them for testing.  Well I will be out of my pc for a week or so and if they deem the memory is good they will just send it back to me.  Of course I will be responsible for shipping both ways......
I will post up when MSI responds for anyone interested.  Since it is more than just one brand of memory, I would assume it is probably not the memory but I could be wrong.
ttreaders, thanks for the heads up.  I followed the user guide when installing the memory to make sure I was using the right slots.  The matrix in the user guide states: DDR400 single sticks of double sided ram should go in dim1.  But then again who's to say that it isnt a misprint in the user guide?
    Thanks for the responses everyone.

  • K8t-neo Ram Trouble

Having some trouble with my new RAM I bought for X-mas (w00t)... BUT to much my dismay, I may have caused some trouble with my own comp... See, I had a Corsair Value Select (2pack) 1GB pack installed just yesterday... Ran fine, then when I received these new modules (Corsair TwinX 1GB Pair 2-2-2-5-2, 2T) pack, and installed them, my machine would start (BIOS, Network Card, Sata screens) then when it came to the Windows XP screen, my machine would sound it was rebooting, my monitor light turns orange-and nothing happens... I haven't changed any bios settings relevant to my RAM timings or anything. This memory supposidely automatically clocks at those timings with no bios changes (according to manufacturer).. Model on the RAM - TWINX1024-3200XLTP.
Corsair Twinx 1GB Pack 2-2-2-5-2 high perf timings, 3200XL (400Mhz) Memory..
    any help is appreciated..

  • Possible RAM problem?

About a week ago I've upgraded RAM in my macbook pro (late 2011) to 8GB. After that several times I've got freezing macbook (take a look at the attached picture) and 3 short sound beeps periodically. Am I right that the only possible problem is RAM quality? Its Hynix DDR3 PC10600 1333Mhz, 2*4GB

That's the problem. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270#link1 That's the correct memory you have to install in your computer. Also, I recommend to buy it in OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM

  • AHT wont run, checking possible RAM problem

I suspect a problem with my RAM do to the fact that it crashes often, and upon restarting the Apple Report indicates possible memory corruption. I decided to try and confirm this theory by running an Apple Hardware Test (AHT). This would be an appropriate time to mention I have a mid 2011 iMac 21.5" with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB RAM running on OS X Version 10.9.2. Unfortunately holding down the "D" key did not work. My next attempt I held down "Option+Command+D" with the same results. My two questions are: how do I check my RAM, Why wont AHT run?

    Hey,
Per http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 holding down D will only work if the machine shipped with OS 10.7 or later. If your mac shipped with an earlier version of OS X then AHT will be located on the second install disk. If you are still unable to get the tests to run you may want to setup a Genius bar appointment and have the computer looked at.

  • Possible RAM Solution -Upper/Lower RAM not being recognized for Al 1.25

I was poking around on my 1.25Ghz Al pb (seemed sluggish) with 1.25 GB RAM, when I noticed that only 1 GB was being recognized. I had a 256 MB chip in the lower slot and a 1 GB in the upper. I accessed the RAM bay and reseated both chips. Upon rebooting, 1GB was still only being recognized (I was very, very thourough on the reseating, spent 5-10 minutes on it) Panic was starting to set in, whether the 256 went south (best possible outcome) or the lower slot was borked. I decided to test the lower slot and swap the RAM positions. I reseated with the exact same care, and prepped a reboot. Upon rebooting, all was restored. 1.25 GB was recognized, and all was well with the the universe. Any ideas as to what had happened? When I swapped the RAM chips, did it get reassociated with the OS? Had the 256MB chip lost it's relationship with the logic board?
(sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum earier, mods please delete prior post)

Hey, whatever mod deleted the reply to this and my subsequent reply to that, why don't you tell me an accurate response? Tell me exactly how working RAM could break the RAM slot it wasn't even plugged into.
Otherwise, Apple is telling a bunch of bull and refusing to admit to a product flaw. Why delete a post speculating on such an issue? All it does is lend credence to the speculation. I believe that it is the case all the more now that you have deleted the posts.

  • EMac crashing more & more often (possible RAM problem?). Help, please!

My eMac is a year and a half old, and the screen began to suddenly freeze up about a week ago. I first noticed the problem when playing back DVDs. After a minute or so, the screen would intermittently display a bunch of short, thin horizontal white lines along with the image, and then suddenly lock up; for a few seconds, I could still move the cursor, then that would freeze, too; the only thing that worked was to turn the power off and on again. The problem has been getting steadily worse since then. The freezing up seems to be triggered by anything that involves a lot of motion on the screen (moving a Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or VLC window around while a video is playing; using screensavers that involve a lot of motion, etc.). The white lines, however, only appear with the DVD player. Most recently, and more alarmingly, moving any window at all around, even a little bit, seems to trigger the problem, as do drop-down menus, adding bookmarks, etc.
Also, I've noticed that the problem is sometimes accompanied by a very "smeared" looking Dock, and if audio is playing at the time of the freeze it will often stutter.
After reading posts, both on this site and elsewhere, about similar problems, I've tried the hardware test on the disc that came with the computer. (Everything passed.) I've also reinstalled the OS, disconnected non-essential peripherals, repaired permissions, used the disc repair utliity (no repairs were needed), trashed a number of permssions as per advice on some websites -- all with no success. I've also spent the past week looking through the various logs and reports on the Console, but since my technical knowledge is extremely limited, this information has not been able to help me so far. Finally, there are several user accounts in my family, and this problem does not seem to be confined to any one of them.
Today, I ran memtest (www.memtestosx.org) to test my memory, and one of the 3 test sequences gave me the following error message:
    "Bit Flip: testing 1FAILURE: 0xfffffefe 1= 0xfffffffe at Offset 0x03261c93"
Could this be the problem? If so, what does it mean and how can it be corrected? (All of the other memory tests were o.k.)
I'm growing increasingly frustrated and worried as this problem worsens, and I'd be grateful for any advice.

    [snip]
Today, I ran memtest (www.memtestosx.org) to test my
memory, and one of the 3 test sequences gave me the
    following error message:
    "Bit Flip: testing 1FAILURE: 0xfffffefe 1=

I'd take one of the DIMMs out of the eMac and test again. If you get the error, the DIMM in the eMac is bad. Replace it. If you don't, that DIMM is probably still good. In either case, take it out and test with the other DIMM. If you get the error, then the other DIMM is probably bad. If both DIMMs show the error, you may have had two bad DIMMs (unlikely, but possible) or the test may be in error. At that point you might want to run Apple's hardware tester, which ships with each Mac. (With older machines, it was a separate CD. With newer machines, it's on the DVD.) If Apple's tester says you have bad RAM, you have bad RAM. Replace it. If Apple's tester says that you have good RAM, but the problems continue, I'd take it in for repair... or just buy new RAM and have done. Most eMac 1.25s andn all 1.42s can handle up to 1GB (Apple's official stance) in two 512MB sticks, or 2GB (reality) in two 1GB sticks.

  • After Effects wont render full res - possible RAM issue?

Not sure if this has ever come up before - I'm unable to render out of after effects and RAM preview half res. When I try and RAM preview the comp just goes black and when I send it to render I get the following message:
After Effects warning: Logged one error - "error Rendering while writing to file. An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted(-1610153464)"
I'm able to RAM preview half res okay, and can render out half res as well. I've tried it with rendering multiple frames simultaneously on and off, clearing the disk cache and turning off any RAM hogging effects.
An obvious cause I've identified is that I've recently upgraded and replaced the RAM on my machine, however, after effects has been the only software effected. Cinema 4D renders no problems and I've had no other problems with the general running of my machine.
Have there ever been any cases before of After Effects not working with certain types of RAM?
    My set up -
    Mac Pro - Early 2008
    OSX Mavericks 20.9.2
    2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    16GB 800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    250GB Samsung SSD

I'm running After Effects CC 12.2.1.5
Sorry should have mentioned, no matter what format I render as, whether it be QT or TIFF sequence, I still get the exact same error.
QT version i'm using is 7.6.6
In terms of reproducing the error, it seems to happen to pretty much anything I try and render, unless it's an extremely simple one layer comp. Rendering a comp with 2 image sequence layers (1920 x 1080) will cause this to happen, but if there's just the one image sequence alone in the comp (and no other layers) then it will render.

  • Kt3-amd1800xp-98se-ram trouble-

i have a ram problem, i have the kt3 ultra2,ms-6380e, win98se,with pc2100 512mb, amd 1800xp,ati radeon 9000 128ddr, (2) western 60gb hdd. the problem is i can't add more ram chips. board can goto 3 gb but i heard win 98se will not. is there a patch or fix. sorry to sound dumb on this but i am at a wall. i love games and want to boost them. oh, also what is best way to adjust multiplyer and voltage? and help or site to get fixes will be loved. thanks

    Hi!
You are right about W98 - it will normally not be able to use more than 512 mB. I know there is a fix for that and it can be downloaded from the Microsoft site.
I am not sure, however that adding more RAM will boost the performance of your system, actually I guess that it will not show ...
If you want to spend money anyway, I would suggest to look into an upgrade to W2K or XP because these Operating Systems are both considerably faster than W98: If the games you want to play are not too old and if you do not have very old hardware (scanner, printer, etc.) such an upgrade would not be a big problem (and it will solve the current RAM problem as well).

Other than memory gain aside, am i gaining anything or losing anything feature-wise with this new ram?
Or are they exactly the same feature for feature, with more memory to boot for the upgrade?
Am I making any sense to you guys?

    Great! Good luck!
The manual that came with your mac explains how to do it-install RAM.....fairly easy. Of note, make sure you get the exact size small screw driver they recommend. Nothing else will work. If you need help with that, post back and I will look up the size I bought.
